And Fragrance Cake & Flame ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 16 November 2023 7 Comments

Simon Constantine's ånd fragrance brand has launched Cåke, a new gourmand fragrance. Also new-ish from the brand, Flåme.

Cåke ~ "Fancy a cake with a difference, here’s our magic recipe: Epically creamy, cakey caramel notes that are good enough to eat? – yep. A dollop of FairTrade Cocoa absolute oozing with yummy goodness) – got that. Deforestation free environmentally conscious cocoa beans – got that too. Mix and spray generously for best results for you and the planet. Have your Cåke and all that..."

Flåme (not shown) ~ "This is a scent to accompany the long evenings huddled next to the Winter Fire. Flåme is the soft scent of woodsmoke, hints of woodland walks, foraged fungi and warm woollen jumpers. Created as the ultimate ’snuggle’ perfume with a coconut and jasmine dry down this scent takes you from Samhain to Solstice with cosy fire side vibes. Inspired by the poem ‘Winter Fire’ by Kathleen Raine the set includes a bespoke Stone Club designed postcard, a 10ml bottle of Flåme and 2x 2ml ånd samples suited to the winter months."

ånd fragrance Cåke is available now at Indigo Perfumery, in 10 and 50 ml Eau de Parfum. (A 10g solid is also sold directly from ånd fragrance.) Flåme is available in 10 ml Parfum directly from the brand.

I guess brands love to adopt a ridiculously stupid gimmick like incorporating the Swedish letter å (pronounced ‘oh’) in everything, including the name of the brand.

Oh, how clever! Can you see me rolling my ögon?

But honestly, even beyond that gimmick — for a UK brand — you’d think after all his time at Lush, he could come up with a brand name you could google without having to add the word fragrance. You can’t google “and cake” and get this fragrance. That is not the absolute bestest outcome for a new-ish brand. It’s not even the only fragrance brand in the world called “and”.

So sorry…he is the son of Mark Constantine, founder of Lush, and they started the Gorilla Perfumes line together. He was described as a “buyer and perfumer” at various times. I do not know the story of why he left Lush.
