Happy Hump Day! It's also National Coffee Ice Cream Day and National Read a Book Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
It's hot here, again! I'm wearing Carthusia Mediterraneo over Tauer Perfumes Rose Delight Body Oil.
Reminder: on 9/8, wear a fragrance with saffron, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello!
OMG Guys, my bottle of Tobacco Honey arrived!!! I almost hugged my deliveryman when he handed me the box.
Of course, I had to make it my SOTD.🍯
My mini review: Good quality honey (front and center), smooth, rich and viscous. Tobacco leaf is mildly spicy, persistent throughout but never harsh. In the background is tonka bean and the famous Guerlain vanilla. I read that there is oud in the base but I don’t smell it. This fragrance is quite linear, but that doesn’t take away its beauty. I like this very much. Perfect for the cooler months. I don’t have TF Tobacco Vanille so I can’t compare. I do have Bee however, which the honey facet reminds me of.
Wow, that sounds great!
That sounds wonderful! Had to laugh at almost hugging the delivery man, I’ve felt like that before, I think we all have.
YAY for a safe delivery, and double-yay for a new Guerlain! Thanks for the review, too. Bee is my honey happy place, so I don’t doubt you smell fabulous.
Congratulations and thanks for the review! Sounds delicious.
oh yay!!!
Congrats on your new baby 🙂
Thanks for the new perfume review!
In Hermes Eau de Neroli Dore for the CP and a super hot day.
Happy Wednesday! 🌞
I’ll try and send you some cooler weather.🌞
PLEEEEEASE!!!!🌞
Eau de Neroli Dore is such a lovely hot weather perfume!
Lovely, but very fleeting. I will finally thunk the travel spray tomorrow.
Time for a 100mL bottle? 😈
Too fleeting to justify the price of a full bottle!
Mmm, coffee flavored ice cream is my favorite.
I’m in Lea. Planning to thunk my bottle some time in the next few months before it completely evaporates. I’m 🤞I will find another unicorn bottle on evil bay or mercari when it’s gone.
I heard the rain last night and it’s definitely cooler today. Looks like the worst of the storm is by lillyjo right now. Stay safe and dry, friend!
Yeah I got it! Lol. It’s supposed to storm off and on all day here.
Not looking forward to what could be a full weekend of unsettled weather. Thanks for the warning!
We are finally getting some much-needed rain but the day is expected to be a steam bath when the sun comes back out. Icky. Tomorrow is supposed to cool off.
I’m wearing Lubin Idole for the saffron and staying in the air conditioning today. I splurged and had my house cleaned yesterday and I want to enjoy it! Movie of the day is Since You Went Away, 1944.
Has anyone heard from Deva?
I see Deva has not posted on IG for a month. I hope she is just taking a break from Internet.
She’s been posting stories on Instagram so I think she’s just not showing up here but is fine.
Since You Went Away. Love that one. Enjoy for me.
I did, I devoted the afternoon to it. I hadn’t seen it before and I cried through 4 kleenex!
I sprayed TF Noir de Noir on my left arm and Aramis Calligraphy Rose on my right one. Saffron is listed in both, though I cannot say I have ever noticed it before. Today I tried to find this note in both scents. Verdict: NdN is delicious, but no saffron detected; CR – saffron makes a very brief appearance in the opening but disappears quickly. Enjoying both.
Today the weather is lovely – partly cloudy, comfortable 26 C (79 F).
Your arms smell great! 😂
I know and love them both, especially NdN.
Thanks! 🤣🤣
Today I am more Team Aramis (in the mood for rose, I guess), but I love Noir de Noir too.
You smell wonderful! I can’t wait for cooler weather so I can wear CR.
Such a shame that Noir de Noir seems to be discontinued.
Really? It is still on Tom Ford’s website.
Interesting! I hadn’t seen it on any of the department store websites that carry Tom Ford here in the US, so I figured it was gone. Sephora doesn’t have it anymore either.
Today I’m in Halston Catalyst for Men, all kinds of clove sexiness.
Which reminds me! I’m sort of trying to learn German, and am trying to read “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer”, one of my favourite books, in the original German, which as you can imagine is an uphill struggle. At least I have the English translation. Anyway, when Grenouille is disclosing the composition of Amor et Psyche to Baldini, he uses the word “Nelken”, which is translated in the English version as “cloves”. Now, I knew that “Nelken” means “carnations”, and it turns out that they’re the same word in German! Carnations used to be called clove-pinks because they do smell of cloves: it’s the same chemical, eugenol, that gives them their characteristic aroma.
I don’t know your SOTD but have fond memories of trying to learn German. I had a friend in college who is a native Brazilian whose love of his life is native German. In any case, I had a dream to visit them sometime after college and took on the task of learning basic German. Unfortunately, there was no such thing as basic German and I ended up not knowing even simply reciting 1-10.
Very interesting. I think there must be a long german word for the linguistic phenomenon you describe. I always remember the Spanish word for lizard because of this very thing: In Spanish a lizard is a lagartija. This is also the word in Spanish for a ‘pushup.’ And lizards do those funny push-ups.
Interesting etymology! Thanks for sharing.
Well, I’m with happy888cat in a scent that just arrived yesterday, and that I finally sprang for after pyramus praised it recently, so I’ve got all kinds of NST-ness going on. SOTM is the very divine Ambre Narguilé which I have been lemming since first sampled years ago. So wonderful, and Mr. G agrees wholeheartedly. Will be reluctantly washing it off in a bit for a vaccination appointment (covid booster and the dreaded senior flu shot), but will probably reapply after that — it’s so good! On reading, I’m a few chapters into the first of the “Three Pines” novels and am loving it. I read one of the later ones a while back and liked it, but decided I should begin at the beginning.
Hmmm, you make me wonder if, when you find a lemming love by sampling, then *wait* a few **years** before getting the FB, some kind of perfume math may be activated. Perhaps the interest you’ve accrued on not buying it right away makes it free? 😀 Anyhoo, yay for a successful FB.
I like the way you think! 😆
I love perfume math. 🙃
Why do you feel the need to wash off perfume just to get a vaccine (or two)? I know I would go scentless to some medical appointments, like the dentist’s, where you have so much closeness for a while, but a vaccination–it seems ok to me when you are in-and-out like that. Just wondering. I had the Covid booster at the same time as the first shingles shot and it was perhaps a good strategy in that the shingles was so painful that I barely noticed any Covid shot issues.
I don’t exactly know why … somehow today it just seemed like the thing to do. I have been getting my vaccines at my local drug store and they probably wouldn’t care at all.
the 65+ shot was a doozy. Take your tylenol!
Will do! Am about to go up to my little workout area and do some arm stuff.
Good idea. My arms felt better after a gentle upper body workout last year when I got the covid booster and the flu shot on the same day. 😕
Ah, Ambre Narguile was my SOTE last night, and its beauty always takes my breath away.
It is gorgeous, for sure.
I’m glad I could be a good influence! Ambre Narguilé really is heaven, isn’t it? By a considerable margin the best of the first four Hermessences, I think, and still one of the best of the entire line (or at least the ones I’ve smelled). Only Brin de Reglisse can top it.
Good luck with those shots! 💉💉
It is hot here as well. I am loving it. (I know not everyone enjoys hot weather). This will probably be the last week for true summertime, at least where I am, *sigh*.
Since a couple of posters have shared their current reads, I shall share that I am almost midway through The General and Mrs. Washington by Bruce Chadwick. I have read a handful of George bios but this is the first one I have come across that focuses heavily on his personal life, and specifically his marriage to Martha W. It is quite engaging and almost reads like a historical novel, with lots of brand new info. My fellow history buffs (there’s a handful) on here will like it.
Um, no scent today, but the other day I did wear L’Eau A La Folie. Nice scent. Funny name.
I will put that on my list. I did read a GW bio fairly recently so may wait a few years, but that’s ok, it will still be there 🙂
I believe the publish. date is ’06, so I’m sure it’ll be around for a while.
I am enjoying my hot weather, too. It will be gone all too quickly, I think.
Okay, you get an enabler’s gem for the biography! 📕 💎
For the CP, Secret de Rochas Oud Mystere. It’s a perennial cheapie on FragranceNet, which I bought because so many people like Secret de Rochas. I’ve since learned that this light rosy saffron is nothing like SdR. For $15, it is enjoyable and inoffensive, but I have too many scents like that. There is an interesting gardenia note that appears occasionally. I am trying to pay more attention to it today, as it’s been living in my closet for about 6 years.
And I’m sure it is glad to be taken for an outing 😉

Extrait de Parfum & regular
Ooooh, that is one gorgeous scent, and you are smelling DIVINE today!
Thank you very much !
Had to spend time vacuuming and cleaning bathrooms today. With 2 Labs that are starting their coat transition, it was bad and looks like I have to vacuum twice a week instead of once. Off to take a shower and use Amouage Lyric body products. It’s so hot out.
I used to have white berber carpet and a dark brown, long-haired tabby, and it felt like I was never done vacuuming.
Wearing Jasmin Noir this morning, and wishing I had a nice cup of lightly spiced tea.
I would send you virtual tea but it’s awfully late in the day now! Hope it was a good day Desirae.
I am quite accidentally right on point with the CP today in Nanban, from a full bottle. Yup, you heard me. A full bottle. One arrived in the mail yesterday. It turns out that about a month ago I was testing Nanban, yet again because I have been on the fence about it. Naturally, I applied it to my husband as well (in the evening–he can’t wear fragrance to work). My husband often serves as a testing strip, of course! He liked it so much that he decided to buy “us” a bottle as our travel fragrance for our upcoming trip. This is out of character for him on about eight different levels, but so funny. Anyway, I had no idea. It’s our first officially shared fragrance (as opposed to the ones I have bought for him and wear myself as I please 😉 ) Typing on my computer so I have no idea how to do a laughing emoji but please mentally insert a laughing face here [!]
Sounds like something Mr. G would do (and equally out of character), except that his choice would be Italian Leather. He has already taken possession of “my” full bottle. 😆
You know, Mr. G might also like Nanban. If you are interested in owning a bottle, perhaps test some on him!
I think I have a sample of it somewhere — will give it a try!
That’s a nice story. Matching shell-suits will be next, perfect for a Scottish autumn!
The possibilities for indignities are indeed endless. Scotland does Ye olde Scottish twee with a vengeance, so our matching perfume could be just the start of endless potential twinsies–matching Black Watch trews? Harris tweed deerstalkers?
If you are using a Windows PC, you can insert emojis by hitting the Windows key and the period key at the same time. The emoji menu will pop up in a new, smaller window.
😍😘😚🤗😻💓💗💖💝💘🥰
Astounding! This may be the most profound thing to happen to me in donkey’s ears! I’m verklempt.

🤘
!!! This is so useful! Thank you for teaching! 🤯
🖖
Wow! Thanks for the information. I did not know this🤦♀️
Not sure if that is a boy or a girl😜
😹
Thank you for the emoji info! It is so useful!
Have fun! 😸
I learned this little trick back when I was using Windows 10. It was one of the few software updates I paid attention to. 😎
I am thoroughly delighted and amused by everything in this thread. 🤗
I’m revisiting my sample of Sylvaine Delacourte Ozkan for the CP, and it’s quite nice. Reminds me of other perfumes though so I will probably be fine with just using up the sample.
I have to sign off work early today to make it to the post office before they close. Two packages were marked as “delivered” last Thursday but weren’t delivered. I waited a few days to see if they’d deliver them, but it doesn’t seem that’s going to happen. I went down to grab the packages less than 10 minutes after the mail carrier was here, and it was clear that no packages were even delivered to my building that day. I’m guessing it was a substitute carrier who didn’t have a key card to get in our building and didn’t want to bother trying to have someone buzz them in using the call box. One of these packages was a somewhat large order from Beautyhabit, including 3 or 4 Molton Brown shower gels, so I really hope we can track down these packages without much hassle.
I hope you get your packages!
Good luck tracking them down!
Hoping for a quick resolution on the package front.
ooh I hope it arrives soon. I was quite stunned at how much I loved the Molton Brown Black Pepper shower gel. It hit all the right notes for me. So I ran out and bought the Molton Brown EdT of the same name, and it was so disappointing, because it was not the same scent at all. A shame because the shower gel was so intriguing and not like anything I’d smelled before and I wanted MOAR
Aww, I’m especially crazy about their discontinued Muddled Plum shower gel and like the decant I have of the EDT, but it doesn’t have the same richness as the shower gel. That stuff feels decadent.
Oh gosh, I hate such package drama, I hope you find them soon!
And you smell lovely; Ozkan was tied for my favorite when I sampled the whole Delacourte collection.
Ozkan is really very nice! I’ll keep enjoying my sample and see how I feel when I get to the end of it.
Ack, what a pain! Hope that your wayward packages show up.
I sure hope you got your packages!
I’m having a package nightmare myself. Hope you get them!
I’m in Ta’if today. I don’t especially smell the saffron, but apparently it’s there. The glass is being installed today, so I will finally have a working shower in the master bathroom! Now if only we had drawer and door fronts…
I didn’t know it has saffron! I must add it to my rotation this week.
Going on my list, too!
One step closer to completion!
Oh yay for glass! An (almost) working bathroom is so appreciated!
Ta’if, of course! Maybe that will be my Friday pick. Was also thinking of Diptyque Eau Duelle or Hermes Galop.
I am wearing TF Patchouli Absolu after Oakland Fresca reminded me of it yesterday. It’s good stuff.
I’m a little anxious this morning because security at my condo called 3x last night while I was asleep. I don’t keep my phone in the bedroom and so I missed the calls. I called back this morning but the morning shift doesn’t know anything, so I will have to wait until later this afternoon to see what’s happening.
That’s unsettling!
And the delivery yesterday via Guam? Many of us are waiting to learn 🙂
According to the USPS, the package is still in Guam. No update since yesterday.
I hope everything works out okay re. Security and you can relax into the rest of your day.
A day late I’m wearing Fracas in honour of Freddy Mercury. I don’t know if he like perfume, but Fracas is big enough and diva enough to suit his stage image.
No idea if this is accurate!
What did Freddie smell like? I have seen frequently. In the early 80s there were two standard colognes with him wherever he went, Aramis and Lagerfeld. He did try others occasionally but always reverted back to those. Later, when he was spending more time in Switzerland he discovered L’Eau Dynamisante by Clarins which he wore much of the time. There was always a surprise in all the bathrooms he had, whether in England, New York or Munich and that was a ladies fragrance called L’Interdit, created for Audrey Hepburn by Givenchy. His drawers always had bars of soap in them to keep the clothes smelling good and those were by Roger & Gallet.

Thanks for that!
Am commando still in bathrobe.
My Deep, Dark Vanilla arrives today, so I will rip open the package immediately.
Hi apsara, I saw that Fenty perfume now has a matching body cream.
It’s in my Sephora shopping cart, lillyjo!
It’s as if we all know each other or something:)
I thought of you as soon as I saw it! 😊
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it!

Looking forward to your thoughts!
Beautyhabit is having a Zoom class with D.H. & Druga next week so I am looking forward to that!
On my way to the library yesterday I passed a paddock with newborn lambs ( I took the scenic route) so spring is definitely here. Also, the first albatross fledglings are taking off to sea where they will spend the next couple of years, away from dry land. Wearing JM Honey and Crocus, for partial CP and because I can see crocuses through my window.
Were the lambs frisking yet? Or perhaps they were gamboling…
Pronking and/ or spronking !
Strawberries and yogurt smoothie
I’m leaving for France tomorrow, flying is not my favorite activity but the weather forecast is good. I will post less often, in part because I have few perfumes at the Provence house so it would always be the same two perfumes, I hope to post Friday though.
I sprayed Passage d’Enfer with abandon this morning and TF Noir Extrême on my hand on an impulse, tonight it’s Shalimar Philtre which is my most versatile Shalimar hands down.
Safe travels! You smell wonderful in Passage d’Enfer.
Thank you so much Ringthing, Pd’E is very diffusive in warm weather.
Have a safe and enjoyable trip! No airport delays!
Thank you Jalapeno, fingers crossed for no delay.
Have a wonderful time, Aurora!
Thank you so much, I’m so happy once I’m there.
Lucky you! Hope that flight is smooth and that you have a wonderful time.
Thank you Robin.
Bon voyage, give my love to France!
I am wearing L’Heure Bleu from the sample delivered yesterday. I like how moody it is, sort of a pretty haze.
It reminds me of an apartment I lived in almost 20 years ago that was painted a color between cornflower blue and lavender. During summer months it was like living inside of L’Heure Bleu. It muted the edges of the bright sunshine and felt so calm and cool. But it was awful in cloudy weather – which we have 9 months of the year here in the PNW. Like living inside of a storm cloud. I made some intense artwork during those times, lol.
It’s amazing how much difference colors can make, along with light, in one’s home.
Oh man, so much. We are choosing a light blue-grey for our bedroom wall now, and the ones I chose for testing are generally so light to nearly classify as white. We don’t have much natural light so hoping to keep it cool and creamy without being warm, since that makes the space feel doomy. It is a horrible grungy, sludgy grey-green-brown right now, and I cannot deal with the oppressive mud vomit color any longer! When we moved in the whole entire apartment was painted this color…including the ceiling. Our apartment is built into the side of a hill, so it has a sort of basement effect, with windows along only one side. We painted the rest of the apartment an intense white color so we have some openness at last. It’s been 8 years. We painted the hall, kitchen and bathroom a creamy yellow, which was also a bad idea. This place needs cool, bright colors to brighten the lack of natural light and general dimness.
I have a lot of feelings about this, apparently.
Back to L’Heure Bleu, the drydown is amazing. I love how spicy sweet it is.
For the afternoon I am adding Vol de Nuit to the back of my other hand. Here we gooooo!
Happy Hump Day all!
Isn’t it, though? Finding the right colors for walls is such a hard thing to do.
Yes, picking paint colors is not easy. I was fortunate in finding a bunch that I like which are complimentary with each other and the spaces they are in.
I will never paint a room yellow ever again.
After a bit of research on Fragrantica and comments here about saffron notes, I’m wearing OJ Ta’if.
My new tablet has some learning to do on perfume names. It changed Ta’if to Tamiflu – glad I spotted that before I posted 🙂 .
I’m sure Ta’if smells much better than Tamiflu 😉! My laptop has no autocorrect but my phone does and as I type in different languages I get really odd changes in my texts sometimes.
Lol!
Spellcheck strikes again!
I have been commando for the past 3 days – down with a cold and blocked sinuses. I hope my nose will be fully back to normal by Friday and I plan on wearing my favorite saffron scent, can’t wait!!
Oh no, very sorry, hope you’re back to normal then!
Boo hiss for an end of summer cold!
I hope it passes quickly!
Hope you feel better soon, Tulipani!
Adding another feel better soon!
Wearing my new Bouqet ideale. There is sunshine today, but a tinge of autumn in the air.
It is so hot here you can’t feel the fall in the air 🙂
I’m wearing Zoologist Cockatiel today from a sample vial. When I first tried it, I felt pretty indifferent. But after a few recent tries I’ve found it more enjoyable. It’s not deep or challenging but it’s sort of like a pleasant fluffy tart dessert. (Which is rather like that little cute bird, right? Plus it has great longevity. I’m not planning to buy it, though.
Ha, that does seem a good fit!
SOTD = Marc-Antoine Barrois Ganymede
Wow! 8 sprays and all is well with the world!

Last Sunday, I spent the better part of the afternoon and into early evening at my friend’s house, the place where my other friend and her husband are currently staying while my friend is going through the first set of chemo – 6 sessions. In any case, I will say she looks good. I don’t know if I ever mentioned that she has Stage 4 pancreatic cancer on account that it had spread (pancreas, liver, lymph nodes and thoracic spine) AND she is not a candidate for surgery. She had gone in for a work up yesterday to see if the chemo is effective – i.e. no further spread and tumors have either not grown or have reduced in size. I have not heard the outcome. She is likely to go back to Florida in the near future to continue with chemo. She is experiencing side effects besides losing all her hair, mostly having to do with temperature sensitivities on her extremities and an issue with her jaw. I hope and pray for the best as she navigates her journey.
Thinking of your friend and wishing her good luck and hopefully some level of physical comfort in her body sooner than later.
Thank you nebbe.
Wishing your friend strength and comfort. I’m sure it is a comfort for her to have a strong support network of friends by her side.
Thanks, Vee. We take turns although I am probably there the least.
How difficult! Thinking of your friend and wishing her the best.
Thank you, pflv67.
Your friend sounds like she is handling an extremely difficult situation with grace and courage. I wish you both all the best.
Thanks, jalapeño. One thing I mentioned to her was that she is facing the situation with a good attitude and that seems to be working.
What a gorgeous bird, Robin!
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/xZKuzwPOefs
RIP Gary Wright. This is one of my very favorite songs from the 1970’s.
Another hot and humid day here. I am enjoying it, even if the A/C has been busier than usual.
SOTD = commando, except for the Korres Guava Body Butter on my shins.
Lillyjo asked some time ago if I would find perfume stronger after not using it on a regular basis. The answer now seems to be “Yes”. I was never a “supersprayer” when it came to application, but now I do at most 1 or 2 sprays.
Such a great song, takes me right back to my childhood. RIP.
I didn’t realize the song was as old as it is. It still sounds ahead of its time 51 years later…
Too hot and humid for me. I may have to give it a few more weeks.
If it makes you feel any better, we are due for a cooldown in the 7-day forecast.
I liked Dream Weaver a lot, but Love is Alive is probably my favorite. RIP, Gary Wright.
“Love Is Alive” is also a great song.
I just saw a few minutes ago that he had died.
Yesterday and today I’ve been wearing Diptyque L’eau de Tarocco. I might be wearing it all week, considering 1) it’s superbly refreshing in this HHH weather we’re in (Horribly Hot and Humid,) and 2) most of the other frags I have with saffron notes are too heavy for wearing now.
Has anyone ever seen the movie “Sexy Beast?” It has one of the best opening sequences ever, and is the epitome of HOT.
I saw it a few months ago for the first time. So good! The tanning tho, with the tanning oil(!) is angst-inducing to me. I would be a burnt tomato in two minutes.
Right? I burn now, although I didn’t until I was 25.
Plus, The Stranglers. 🔥
Posting and running again.
I’m still wearing Eau de Soliel Blanc. I made a doctor appointment for tomorrow as I am still not feeling well.
Also… Deva if you see this, I hope you are well!
Oh no- feel better soon!
Good luck with the appointment!
Feel better soon, Lillyjo!
Hope that you get answers and no whammies tomorrow at the doctor’s lillyjo!
Eeek. I hope you feel better soon.
Glad you’re seeing the doctor and hoping you get some quick, relieving answers.
I hope you get some answers from the doctor tomorrow. Take care. 🤗
Hope you feel better soon!
I’m sampling DS Durga’s Sweet Do Nothing and to my nose it is a strong cactus note, which I don’t often encounter. Also getting some incense, milky/green fig, a waxy note, and lots of musk.
I used up a bunch of veggies to make ratatouille for dinner and I smell of that too now.
A cactus note? Do elaborate!
That green, watery smell when you snap an aloe leaf or a prickly pear paddle
Wearing B683 today. Leather and saffron. 👍🏻
We’re house twins!
Hey twin!
I was unscented today (except for sunscreen) but wore a few sprays of Iris Silver Mist to bed last evening. Hubby went golfing and I went along for the walk on this lovely day. My feet are tired and sore!
Signed up for Lush Kitchen subscription yesterday; my first box should be in early October. I’ve watched a few videos; apparently you can vote for some or all items, but it will be the most-voted for products included. Looking forward to it as there have been long-discontinued things show up. I’ll probably give it at least until Christmas to see if it’s worth while.
I have watched a few of those videos too…the boxes look great fun.
Spritzed Miller et Bertaux A Quiet Morning at my neighborhood perfume shop today because I saw it listed as having a saffron note. I’ve never been drawn to this line which is just as well since there are so very many others that do draw me😬
Seriously, I know that feeling.
😊
