Tuesday scent of the day 9/5

Posted by Robin on 5 September 2023 155 Comments

It's Tuesday, the International Day of Charity and Freddie Mercury’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I was up too late and I'm still groggy. I am going to pick a perfume after my next cup of Numi Chinese Breakfast.

Reminder: on 9/8, wear a fragrance with saffron, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Saffron tea set ("Whether you are planning a romantic dinner for two or entertaining friends and family, these warm golden spice colours add an interesting splash of colour to your table. This set includes a teapot, sugar and creamer") is $67.50 at Belleek Living.

SOTD Black Saffron for the CP

This perfume also reminds me or has an association with the library for me. I gets lots of leather in the dry down

Reading the Garden of Evening Mists. Thank you Kanuka

I remember this scent. One of the few Byredos I liked. Only my associations were totally different – hiking, camping. 😲
      You smell lovely anyway!

I have a soft spot for Black Saffron because its has tight silage it makes it perfect for volunteering at the library.
I am glad we have this Byredo love in common. When I look back-I should have bought this one in FB and not Slow Dance. oh well.

Yes I am-I had to go research the war between Japan and Malaysia and how the English was involved. Then-when she arrives as a young women there is some war happening-but I am not sure so I have to research that.

I have been so lucky between you, Kanuka, Kris and OaklandF, and many others on here I have found some amazing book recommendations!! I am so grateful to this blog 🙂

The House of Doors is recent. Somerset Maugham is one of the characters, and a real-life murder trial also.

Hi everyone! Happy day after Labor Day. I like the retro look of that tea set.
I did some saffron research and I have enough perfumes to do a week but it’s still hot and those spicy perfumes are heavy hitters, so I am wearing Rosine Un Zeste de Rose. So lovely, why don’t I wear it more often. Too much perfume!

Wearing Néroli Outrenoir in an effort to retain some semblance of freshness on this blazing hot day. Have to go to a Dr checkup appt so I would prefer not to show up drenched in sweat but that may be inevitable.

Saffron is not a very easy note for me – its leathery bitterness often intimidates me.

Nevertheless, I found enough for 5 days.

Yesterday I wore Guerlain Songe d’une Bois d’Ete. Never thought of it as a saffron scent, but yesterday I actually noticed it.

Today I am in Tom Ford Tuscan Leather – another one with saffron. A heavy hitter for sure.

I’m in Chanel No 5 L’eau for what feels like a Monday. Easing back into work with a 3 day week.
Feeling very melancholy today for a variety of reasons. I took my baby’s back to school picture on the front steps this morning for the very last time. When she starts college next fall, I won’t be there.😭 I know this is the natural order of things, but it doesn’t mean my heart breaks any less. But alas, this too shall pass.
At least the sun is out!🌞

Went with La Chasse aux Pappillions
Since it is going to be mid nineties here. Ugh. Totally missing the CP. Not sure I have any perfumes with a saffron note, but I will do a little research. What I really want right now is another Linden scent or two. I think I asked this question before but I don’t remember- anyone have an opinion about which Kersene scent is the best for Linden?

Only one really saffron-y scent in my collection (the obvious one) so I’ll save that for Friday. Today I’m in vintage Jacomo Parfum Rare, one of those complex, expensive-smelling mid-eighties oriental chypres, very luxe. Discontinued, but still easily available online: they must have made vats of it.

Sotd is TF Myrrhe Mystere. Amber-ish, resinous scent and has the same vibe as Ebene Fume, like a sibling. I prefer EF though.

If I had known it was Freddy Mercury’s birthday I would have gone for something flamboyant like Fracas. As it is, I’m wearing the well behaved and much loved Eau d’Eté by Parfums de Nicolaï, from my 2nd bottle. I’m chuffed I actually managed to finish a bottle of perfume, drowning as I am, in the stuff.

I have to check what saffron perfumes I own.

Too hot here this week for the spicy saffron perfumes I have. Today, I am wearing Hermes Eau de Neroli Dore, the only refreshing scent with saffron that I can wear now. I may stick with this one for the rest of the week and thunk the travel spray, or wear something else.

I had a relaxing holiday weekend. On Saturday, I went with my youngest sister, her husband, and the twins to the cemetery, and later we attended mass at church for my mother’s one month of passing. On Sunday, we drove to the Shinnecock Indian Pow Wow in Southampton. The weather was perfect, which allowed us to enjoy the day outside. We had brunch at my aunt’s house yesterday. It was nice to share with her and with her sons who were also visiting. After I did my usual grocery shopping. I took advantage of the sale at BBW and got the Cherry Merlot body lotion and mist. I love the scent of the candle and room spray, so I was happy to see the body products now. So bad they didn’t release a shower gel since the bar soap barely has a scent. Now, I’m back to work and ready to face a short week full of meetings and inspections outside. I will survive!
    Happy Tuesday! 🌻

I’m in TF’s Patchouli Absolu–I have a decant from Royalty Scents. When it is gone, I will mourn. Sometimes it is the PERFECT patchouli.

Freddie Mercury is definitely woven into the background music of my teens. My husband and I recently watched the 1986 movie Highlander starring Christopher Lambert–I wish I could say it was so bad that it was good, but too soon! (My husband thinks it is hilarious that I seem to have bad-movie-ptsd from it. Usually I enjoy bad movies 🙂 🙂 🙂 ) ANYWAY, the soundtrack is by Queen, not Queen’s best either I am afraid 😉

Hilarious! Well, to make you feel better, a year later Ishtar came out, and I have watched that film at least half a dozen times to the dismay of my family and friends. No one, and I mean no one, likes that film, and I still love it!

PS I think you asked me about Babycat? I like it a lot, but not enough to worry about its scarcity. Warm, vanillic, with a hint of playdough imho.

I’m visiting a friend for a couple of weeks and didn’t pack any saffron frags. So instead my project is to try work my way through the slew of D.S. Durga samples I brought with me. Starting with Pistachio, which I like better today than when I tried it a few months ago. It has a good chewy vanilla note, but leans salty rather than sweet. MUCH less sweet than the Kayali Pistachio (which I also like).

Today’s tea is Harney’s Williamsburg Ginger Cake, and the flavor is spot on for a dark, chewy, molasses-rich ginger cake.

I have tickets to see The Postal Service & Death Cab tonight and am super excited. My friend and I saw PS in 2003 and 2013, but we weren’t expecting a 2023 tour so it was a nice surprise. Also trying very hard not to thinking about how quickly those decades in between have passed. 😂

Oo, I like today’s tea set!

Inspired (and reminded) by Gaynor yesterday, I’m in Le Chevrefeuille, which I’ve totally been neglecting this summer but which is truly one of my all-time favorite warm-weather scents. I foresee reapplying lavishly throughout the day.

Busy-in-a-good-way day today — got Le Biscuit off to school with hugs and kisses, then read through some work documents while simultaneously drying my hair, and now off to grad school for a lab meeting, then back at work for more meetings, then an afternoon date, then last-minute packing for a camping trip. I so wish I could drink coffee all day long…

I hope they told her something in that time, since the school has communicated not one single thing to us for this school year, other than her schedule, which was released last Friday at 3 p.m. and doesn’t include the times of her off-timetable classes. I’m trying so hard and failing to be a public school parent.

Somehow I always arrive too early for everything and that includes the supermarket when it opens at 7.30am so I chat with the guy who sweeps the car park and picks up litter. It turns out we both like watching the dawn rays over the storeroom and listening to the birds over the beeping of reversing forklifts, and we stand gazing at the botanic gardens across the road and talk about trees. I look forward to our chats and the funny thing is that even though we’ve now been chatting for a couple of years I don’t know his name and he doesn’t know mine…seems a bit daft. I think I should introduce myself. Wearing Dune, and about to get up.

      Rise and shine beautiful.

So my thing about introductions and names–once names have been exchanged I feel responsible for remembering them–and I am terrible at remembering names. And then it gets embarrassing when I can’t remember someone’s name and they remember mine. Oh, the humanity!

You smell lovely this AM, or PM here 🙂

h, in today’s Wapo food section, various grocery chain rotisserie chickens are ranked. Wegmans did pretty well, but was surprised to see Walmart in 1st place. Most of the stores aren’t also in Chicagoland, but someone in the comments recommended Fresh Market, which is nearby–may have to try it. Been too hot to turn on the oven.

    Banana, strawberries and yogurt smoothie

Another lovely 24C weather, very enjoyable after so many less than 20C this month. It’s been the coolest summer in at least ten years.
I picked Floris No 127 this morning, a unisex leaningslightly masculine, sweet fougère which smells mostly of petitgrain, love that note, and a very sweet geranium mixed with lavender, it’s light but goes on forever, so suave, still detectable on my arm, it dates back to 1890 so obviously it does something right. Tonight I was hesitating so finally the hand went for SL Clair de Musc which I haven’t worn in forever it seems.

Not sure if yesterday was a record temp or not for me. Depending on which source I checked, it was between 95 and 97 degrees F. Today has not been quite as warm. But definitely more humid.

Teflon kitty has a mild ear infection in one of her ears. She had been shaking her head and scratching her ears a lot over the past week. The vet cleaned out both ears, and put some long-lasting drops in the one ear with the infection. She did not like that at all. But it means that *I* don’t have to give her any meds.

SOTD = commando, except for Korres Guava lotion on my shins again. I have a few perfumes with saffron; we shall see what Friday brings.

Same awful weather here. Glad to hear Teflon received treatment for her ear infection.

I’m curious why you always put lotion just on your shins. Is it dry there, or far enough away from your face to be unobtrusive?

My shins have gotten dry as I have gotten older. So on days where I don’t feel up to wearing proper perfume, I can wear scented lotion on my shins and still feel like I am dressed.

Teflon is also going on a “wet food only” diet for at least 5 days. She had some scary vomiting episodes last week, so the vet recommended a bland diet for a bit. We usually free feed kibble and give her wet food 2X a day.

X-rays didn’t show anything horrible, so this is precautionary.

I’ve had only one cat that held a bit of a grudge after a vet visit, and that was my dearly departed Jinx kitty, aka the “Old Lady Cat Broad”. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge back in 2012.

I can’t give Teflon any pills or liquid medicine. She spits out solid pills and will refuse to eat food that is mixed with any kind of prescription. In her defense, some of the things I have tried to give her are rather bitter and nasty tasting. The only thing I have been able to get her to take is an OTC probiotic. But she will put up with topical medications.

Some of my past other cats have been easier to medicate.

LOVE having scented shins. It’s like wearing something sexy for yourself.

Hi folks! Pretty tea set above. I’m back from my little vacation chez my parents, and I wish I’d done more while I was home but I really needed to just lie around and read… so I did!

Shout-out to all my fellow library workers and volunteers–I didn’t know there were so many of us here! I wore Demeter Paperback on Friday for the theme, but it’s so faint I added some Box of Eels on top. Nice combo.

I’ve got a great list of perfumes I can wear that include saffron as a note, and I’m starting off my week of the CP in Anubis by Papillon. Admittedly, I can’t pick out the saffron because this perfume is incredibly well blended, but it’s in there somewhere. This is our coolest day of the week so perfect for this perfume.

I am a smorgasbord of scents today, as a Surrender to Chance package arrived. I started out with Essential Parfums Divine Vanille in teh morning, from my existing colleciton. Then the STC package arrived, and I added Kayali Wedding Silk Santal 36 to the left inside elbow. Fine, but a mite sugary with that scratchy musk that isn’t white musk and isn’t body musk but is something newer that I can’t ever describe but I think muddies up otherwise good fragrances.
Guerlain Shalimar Souffle de Parfum on my right elbow. Thought it would be more Shalimar-y. It’s fine but not my style.
Guerlain L’Heure Bleu EdP on the back of my left hand. Initial thought was “hmm, fine but not Mitsouko” but as it wears I like it more. Still not as much as Mitsouko, but is getting established as its own thing.

Great fragrance choice! On Friday, while I was checking out at Whole Foods, I distinctly smelled Shalimar. My checker was a young guy, and I didn’t want to put him on the spot by asking if it was his SOTD.

Pet peeve alert…. I have noticed that people are using the word vibe a lot to describe something. For example ” my dinner is giving me vacation vibes” why not use concrete descriptions? Or say ” my dinner reminds me of the food I ate while vacationing in Italy ” I am not the word police, but I hate what is happening to language. Rant over. Lol.
