DS & Durga Deep Dark Vanilla ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 17 August 2023 19 Comments

Indie brand DS & Durga has launched Deep Dark Vanilla, a new fragrance.

Penetrating pods of mysterious depth. Rich real vanilla absolute in all it's toasted glory.

Rich and smoky vanilla absolute is one of the most beautiful materials in perfumery. It can secretly blend behind things in a way synthetic vanilla cannot. Synthetic vanilla-based fragrances are usually sugary sweet and cloying. On the skin real vanilla is warm and gourmand recalling jungle vines and good times.

The notes include cabreuva, orchid, pink pepper, vines, green vanilla leaves, cypress root, vanilla, patchouli and hay.

DS & Durga Deep Dark Vanilla is available now at Bergdorf Goodman, in 50 ($210) or 100 ($300) ml Eau de Parfum.

I can’t resist a bit of added snark re marketing the notes: make sure the vanilla leaves are described as green. 🙄

If i can also add a bit of snark , if you knew anything about gardening you’d know that vanilla leaves only actually smell of vanilla when they are dying & dry out & turn brown. When green they don’t smell of vanilla but have a more herbaceous smell which I’m assuming is why they specifically state ‘green vanilla leaves’. If you’re going to be snarky at least make some effort to know what you’re being snarky about ! LOL

Gosh, she was being snarky about ad copy, you are being snarky directly to another reader. If you’re going to make an effort to chat with others, be polite!

Just when I was about to close the books on ever owning a D.S. & Durga perfume …

I will need to try this because a large sample may not be a great idea.

I liked Pistachio, but DS&Durga is very hit or miss, not blind buy safe.

“Penetrating pods of mysterious depth” aside, this sounds pretty darn good to me, especially if the vanilla is indeed natural and not whatever that vanilla-esque aromachemical is that always makes me feel gaggy (Cierge de Lune, I’m so sorry, but I’m looking at you).

Yes, will need to sample first too. Pistachio is the only one from this house that I have really enjoyed.

Indeed it does! Consider me interested!

That said, Pistachio is the only one from this house I have a FB of…I found the line pretty meh up until Pistachio which might have been called Patchouli. 😉
