It’s Tuesday and National Relaxation Day. Birthdays: Sir Walter Scott, E. Nesbit, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Julia Child, Oscar Peterson, Jimmy Webb. What fragrance are you wearing?
(I'm still on vacation and commando; if I was home, my plan was Guerlain Mandarine Basilic: when we kept a vegetable garden, basil was a staple crop, to be eaten fresh in caprese and then frozen as pesto to last the winter.) Tea at the moment is Numi Chinese Breakfast with a splash of milk.
Reminder: on 8/18, wear a fragrance that features a note that you might eat in a salad, or that you might grow in a vegetable garden...carrot? tomato? basil? rhubarb?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Great minds think alike, Robin 😉 – I was thinking of basil and caprese today. But your choice is better for the CP. I am wearing Penhaligon’s Lavandula, which has basil and pepper, but still definitely a lavender-centric perfume.
I miss growing basil, we used to do 6-8 plants every year. Caprese is one of my favorite foods on earth 🙂
Maybe a time will come when you are ready to garden again, Robin. Another season.
Maybe a time will come when you are ready to garden again, Robin. Another season.
On a whim today, Demeter Brownie, which is photorealistic for a few minutes — dark, fudgy chocolate — and then kind of peters out, but then, it *is* Demeter. It’s really great for those first few minutes, though, better even than CSP Amour de Cacao.
Demeter could really clean up if they offered tiny (refillable?) bottles to attach to key-chains, for all-day spritzing.
They used to have those! They weren’t refillable — I mean, not on purpose, but I’m pretty sure you could pry off the sprayer top and fill them. They were little 5-mL sprays on a keychain: now they’re just regular plastic spray vials, unfortunately. Still really portable, though.
I’m wearing Idyllwild, which is not my favorite rhubarb fragrance, but I wanted to wear something different. This is from an untried sample that I’ve had for a while.
I love Idyllwild! Probably not my favorite rhubarb either though.
love Idyllwild….but oddly enough, not crazy about rhubarb!!
Wearing Mugler A*men because it’s another cool, rainy day. It hardly seems fair that is so terribly hot for so many. It’s supposed to heat up here over the weekend.
I looked on Fragrantica and A*men has mint in the top notes, so I can claim CP points; I often add fresh mint to a salad in the summer.
Cool and rainy here too. Does look like lots of people are sweltering…ugh.
Mmmmm, caprese salad — yum! I’m playing along in Paris-Deauville, which is also yum. 😁
Maybe yum should be its own cp 😉
In Diptyque Philosykos for the CP. I always enjoy fig season because I love them in my fruit and vegetable salads.
Happy Tuesday! ☕️
And Philosykos is just wonderful and unique!
It is definitely my favorite fig scent!
You smell delightful!
Thank you, Allo! 🌻
Woohoo! We are scent twins!
Yay! Twins for the first time!
Azemour for me today, which has plenty of things I like to eat in salads or put in dressing. Early start to get to the US consulate this morning to renew Ockeghem Teen’s passport; always a fun time where we have to go through security twice and aren’t allowed to carry anything in except our paperwork. (I’m now recalling we will have to give up our keys, too, since the fobs have electronics…sigh.)
Scent twin today! Azemour is one of my summer go-to scents. I hope your passport venture was successful.
I’m doing a red fruit salad with Goutal’s Quel Amour, which has been discontinued I just discovered.
Huh. And Goutal has not done a new scent in quite some time.
Lemony summery vibes in Dolce & Gabbana Ladies light blue summer vibes, bought because I loved the bottle, but the juice does very nicely in high heat high humidity Michigan!
I make a really tasty salad dressing by juicing 4 lemons, (measure the volume you get), mashing up 4 anchovies in the lemon juice (or to taste if 4 seems a lot, but trust me!), than mashing in a coarse grind or two of fresh pepper corns and a stem of rosemary, (or a couple stems of sweet marjoram, or what have you. Use dill for a mainly cucumber salad!), and finally adding 2 volumes of really good robust olive oil. Whisk vigorously right before adding to salad. Extra will keep in the frig- just remember to put it on the counter early enough so the olive oil liquifies…
Hope everyone has a happy Tuesday!
Ha, will have to put anchovies on my shopping list, as boy is my own salad dressing on the snoozy side.
So actually the most basic recipes is lemon juice and olive oil. First addition is 1 Tablespoon of salt per 1/2 cup olive olive. Or use anchovies as substitute for salt. Or add to, if your BP is good enough you don’t care about sodium. Ten add garlic cloves, chopped fine. If you need that toned down a bit, use roasted garlic. Or add one herb at a time, so you can tell which ones you like . Then make mixtures to your heart’s content and your taste buds’s celebration. It is the all purpose dressing!
Thanks for the salad dressing recipe.
Easy peasy, all purpose! For everyday, I just squeeze half a lemon onto my salad, sprinkle with whatever herbs are fresh at the time and then apply olive oil…simple simple is my current motto!
In the not-salady Vetiver Pour Elle.
You smell great.
Ninfeo Mio today. Trying to get an early start (ha!) to beat another day of around 100F. Lots of running around this morning. 🏃🏻♀️Yesterday I rounded a curve and the drawer system I THOUGHT I had secured in my closet came loose, busted out, and landed in the aisle way. HUGE mess resulted, with clothes, makeup, some tools, and a million other things now completely blocking the aisle. Couldn’t deal with it in the heat yesterday do I just closed the door and walked away. Who say I can’t confront problems head on? 😃
Oh my, that sounds like a bit of a disaster, I’m glad to hear your coping skills are sufficient to deal with it (all in good time, of course 😉).
Ninfeo Mio will keep you cool while you’re running around.
We did that on our last camping trip. Forgot to latch the fridge and heard a loud crash as we turned a corner at high speed. Broken eggs, food everywhere.
Oh no. I would do that all the time I am sure.
Last day of my vacation before I go back to work tomorrow. Spending the day in Epic.
I hope you have a great day!
You smell wonderful for your last day!
Starting the day in Ceremonia Perfume de la Tierra for the basil note.
you smell great! I wore that yesterday.
😊
I’m wearing my mix of carrot seed oil and almond oil (as the carrier). I also wore this yesterday. It’s going to be another hot one, so will be heading to the beach again to go float in the lake. I’ll be in lots of sunscreen very soon. Stay cool, everyone.
Robin, I hope you are having a lovely time away!
I am Gail, thanks! It is always relaxing to be away even when it rains all day, which it did today. We will be floating on our lake tomorrow!
Still cool here, waiting to see if the BC heatwave eventually travels east and engulfs us. Hoping not. I forgot the CP again and am wearing Tubéreuse Criminelle.
But you smell good!
You smell divine!
We have quite a bit of nettle in our garden which we keep as it hosts an endemic butterfly, the Red Admiral. Also good for nettle tea and soup so wearing Miller Harris Wander today for the CP. Very frosty morning again but once the sun rises it should be a nice day and I might go over the hill to collect a book from the library and see if there are any lambs in the paddocks yet.
I did some butterfly research. There is a similar looking butterfly in Europe the Vanessa Atalanta (commonly also called Red Admiral). I hope you have nice walk with the lambs.
They look ver similar. I loved all the butterflies and moths in Europe, especially the huge hummingbird hawkmoths. We have beautiful Alpine species here, like copper ringlets.
Happy Tuesday!
Two days of a horrendous power blackout,we finally have electricity again this evening.Thank goodness for earlier than usual Spring-like weather, especially at night!
SOTD!
Mitsouko edt.I’ve been wearing it quite often these past few weeks.I actually forgot how stunning it is.Defo cp points,I mean cold peaches in a summer salad with some fresh herbs and feta and a sprinkle of blackpepper(maybe some chilly flakes?)can only be yum.
Hope everyone is keeping cool up north?
I just saw the news about that awful house explosion in Pennsylvania, like what??
XO’s🌹
Power outage sympathy – two days is a lot. Regarding the heat, our part of the Midwest has not had anything but normal summer temperatures. There were several hot days and nights in a row, but we’ve not hit any record highs and rain has been good enough.
Interesting how normal temperatures are such a blessing
It was a lot!
Looking fwd to actual actual Spring!!💃💃
I had not heard about that explosion but just googled, that is terrifying.

Sorry you went 2 days without power, glad the weather was ok.
I was wondering if that was close to where you live!
How terrifying,cannot imagine!
Late reply, but it is in my state but that close, probably a 4 or 5 hour drive?
Hello all!
It is HOT as the planet Vulcan (104F/40c) and I am in the office to take advantage of the air conditioning. My poor roses sent up a second summer spray and have been fried in the sun!
SOTD: Coco Paradise from BBW- lotion , topped up with Fig Tea from Nicolai.
*Waves!*
Nice to see you, but sorry about the circumstances. You smell great though! Love Fig Tea and it must be extra nice over a coconut lotion.
Hello Friend!
I am so happy you are on vacation.
It is so hot. I am wearing Robin’s suggestion, Mandarine Basilic, and hoping it is not too heavy today.
That is serious heat if it can’t take MB! Stay cool foxbins.
Not yet getting into the CP – but I have some ideas. Today is Chanel Allure edp, layered with the body lotion. I keep thinking I’m at the thunk for that lotion, but once again, there seems to be one more round.
Will you replace it?
I am wearing Dior Gris today from a sample that came with a new blush. I can’t believe I have never tested or worn this before. I want to be very sure my list for Paris is tightly curated and within budget.
Turning 70 does that to a person. Well, this person.
Your shopping list you mean, or your packing list?
Thank you PL67 for mentioning fig. That made me think of Veela Vermeire’s Ashoka, which I’ll wear today. I’m wearing a jacket with a print of lemons, so I’m definitely on target for a salad 🙂
Ashoka is beautiful, isn’t it? An interesting fig interpretation.
Ashoka is a wonderful perfume and a good one for the cp!
Banana, strawberries and yogurt smoothie
Still cool weather here, 16C this morning and 23 in the afternoon.
I chose Au Pays de la fleur d’oranger Neroli Blanc with its true orange blossom and tonight it’s Weil Suki Essence, sweet and moreish dates and plums dipped in cinnamon on an incense base, I always recommend it but lately it’s not as cheap as it once was but alas it’s true of perfume prices in general.
I love Néroli Blanc, so wonderful!
So glad you like it too, it’s a sleeper I think.
It is hot hot and hot here in Seattle without a/c this week, so luckily most of my colognes also fit the CP. Today I’m doing multiple refreshes of 4711 Lemon & Ginger from the fridge. Both of those ingredients are perfect as salad dressing bases. Yesterday I went with Aedes de Venustas Signature for the tomato leaf and rhubarb.
Had a nice but exhausting trip to Portland this weekend. No perfume shopping this time, but I spent a little while at Powell’s bookstore. I did ask about the Powell’s perfume from last year but was told they haven’t had it for a while. Also unfortunately got motion sickness on both train rides, ugh. I even took Dramamine beforehand and it didn’t seem to help. Something else that didn’t help is that the a/c in our train car on the way back to Seattle was busted. They reset the HVAC at the halfway point of the trip, so it started working a bit better by the last leg of the journey. I’m glad I don’t have any other travel plans in the near future!
How ghastly, hot and nauseated. Travel can be so unpleasant.
So sorry, that does sound exhausting.
Wearing Eau Rose EdP again, this time for the artichoke note! Good thing I forgot about that when I ordered my “large sample” (travel-size.) Otherwise, I would never have tried it! 😁 It’s cool and rainy here today, so it’s not overwhelming.
How intriguing, artichoke.
Yes. As Spock would say, “fascinating.” 😅
(I’ve been watching the new series.)
Artichoke? Thankfully I can’t smell it.
Same thing I thought.
I think I will fail badly in the CP this week.
Light day at work (yay!) after a heinous week before and I spent much of the day scurrying through parking lots quickly to get to my car so I would not be totally sweaty. Praying for rain. Every day I look at the long term forecast with more 100 degree days. I think we may get rain next week.
I am testing out Love Don’t Be Shy. Nice gourmand and I swear I am getting strawberry after lots of sweet vanilla. I am going to try another gourmand sample tomorrow for comparison.
I would try the Love don’t be shy Extreme!
My sotd is Angel’s Share. It’s a pretty decent day here weather wise. I hope everyone else gets some relief soon.
Been thinking about you all day. I had to go try Chance Eau Vive today after you were talking about it yesterday. I had no impulse control and decided I needed a bottle of it. Then I thought that I should have some Body Shop grapefruit body butter to go with it so went to Ulta and purchased some of that. Look what you have done to me. LOL
By the way, you smell great!
Ooh, grapefruit body butter? Yes, please! I believe TBS also had a pink grapefruit shower gel years ago? I might have to make a trip to the mall.
Yes, they do have the shower gel. I guess I didn’t say that the body butte was pink grapefruit.
butter
Oh yay! Now I will probably have to get the grapefruit body butter!
It was so hot and humid late afternoon today. I think this will go on for another day or two, maybe longer.
Ugh… I will be getting the hot weather next week.
SOTD = Diptyque Philosykos EDT
Figs! It’s probably unreasonable but I have been looking for figs since early July. I know I have another month or so before I can satisfy my taste buds.
In the world of pumpkin spice, I have my pumpkin spice creamer ready to go once I finish the rest of my regular creamer!
The specialty creamers make me wish I liked coffee.
I am looking forward to pumpkin scones already. 🙂
