Thursday scent of the day 8/10

Posted by Robin on 10 August 2023 120 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! It's also National S’mores Day and World Lion Day. Birthdays: Betsey Johnson, Antonio Banderas. RIP Robbie Robertson. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in a tiny dab of Sonoma Scent Studio Incense Pure.

Reminder: on 8/11, wear an incense fragrance, if you have one. (This is a repeat from 2015.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I chose Rien Intense Incense as my incense of the day. This stuff is interestingly slightly less potent than the original, still powerful and nearly everlasting. I love it, but I might have a tiny preference for the original.

    Cool photograph! 🤩

I am wearing two green incense scents, although compared to the perfumes I wore earlier this week they are not as incense centric.

One is The Scent of Departure Amsterdam AMS – bright and fizzy cannabis-like incense.

The other is Tom Ford Vert d’Encens, which smells more like a walk in the woods + distant campfire. The incense note in Tom Ford kind of appears and disappears on my skin.

The “cons” on Fragrantica keep entertaining me: “Cooked banana smell may not be pleasant for some” (that’s for Ford, and no, I am not getting any bananas from this fragrance, raw or cooked). 😂

But nothing beats “occasionally deadly scent” from yesterday. Why are insults often more creative than compliments?

“May not be pleasant for some” in itself is wonderful.

I’m Gypsy Water, again. I just can’t get enough of this stuff. Eyeing up all the body products online.
It’s my older daughter’s birthday today. My baby who was 10 days past her due date. Hard to believe 23 years have flown by. She is truly a delight. And I’m not just saying that because I’m her mom. Ask anyone who’s met her. She radiates positivity, and I take no credit for that. She just came that way. What a blessing she’s been.☺️
She’s still away at her summer camp job so I won’t get to see her, but my parents live minutes away from camp so they’ll take her for a birthday lunch. I’m sure it will make their day.

All of my three are also “a delight”. What a joy it is to be a parent! And I wholeheartedly agree with you….kids are truly a blessing!

My covid booster is knocking me on my butt today but I am on vacation so it’s not a big deal. The Akron zoo was nice but really small. I think the Cleveland zoo has more to offer in terms of animals and everything else. Thinking of wearing no 5 edt today.

If you like, you can use a wax warmer instead. Melt the candle in a pot of hot water, pour it into silicone ice-cube trays, and voila, wax melts.

I considered Incense Pure for today, also Ouarzazat, but went with Wazamba.
Mr ringthing got up early and put short ribs and spareribs in the smoker. It smells wonderful!
And the prolific poblono has a dozen peppers on it this morning, in various stages. I’m using some for bbq sauce.

SOTM is Zagorsk, which I am enjoying very much. My dabber sample is nearly gone, indicating I’ve sampled it before, but I’ve never sprung for a FB … and now I’m wondering why. Maybe because there are already so many incense fragrances on the perfume shelf? 😂

Failed the CP again! I have many incense perfumes that I love and wear regularly, but for some reason I grabbed my vintage Dune decant instead of any of them. 🙂 Oh, well, Dune is lovely, and I am happy with my choice. Reading the other choices here today I need to get busy and order some more small decants from one of the decanters, or maybe some samples from LuckyScent…
Happy Thursday, all you good people….in spite of the fires in Hawaii, the war in Ukraine, the recent appalling news coming out of Washington about the extent of political corruption, the imminent rise of a new COVID variant, and the very sad death of Robbie Robertson – I yearn for the good old boring days….uh, there were some at one time or another, weren’t there? I’m in Ummagumma today, inspired by others who wore it earlier this week. It’s working well with an overcast, chilly morning (15C).

Happy birthday to Betsey Johnson! I have very fond memories of a Betsey Johnson sweater I bought in the late ’80s — acid green, off the shoulder and cropped, with a big ruffle around the top. I wore that into my university years.

I’ll be in NV Trayee today, which is transparent and light for summer weather. I have a travel spray and absolutely love this size. Many of my perfumes that have incense are just too much for this heat and are ones I crave in winter, so I can’t wear them without dying this time of year, especially with the record heat we’re having this weekend.

Can anyone recommend a Low sugar Greek yogurt? Everything I see at the grocery has tons of sugar. I thought I hit the jackpot with “2 Gram” only to find out it has stevia, which I don’t like. I use it for smoothies so it’s not as noticeable as when you eat it by itself, but I still don’t like the aftertaste.

The world has gone to hell in a hand basket and I can’t wait for time off so I can disappear into the woods/desert/any non-human wilderness area. I’d like to watch birds and butterflies flitter, trees and flowers whisper I. The wind, track water as it runs placidly as a cow chewing its cud or as ferociously as lion after a wildebeest. I want to watch a single leaf as it transitions from its bold spring green wardrobe to its gold and saffron fall robes, finally gracefully floating down to become one with the loamy forest floor.

I remember visiting my SIL’s grandmother in the hospital years ago and she said for her hospital bed- “ I want to go see John and Betty.” (my dad and grandmother who were both dead at the time). And I totally understand that. I really do.

What galbanumgal said about the yogurt. I switch between the 2% and the 5% as in every other time because I don’t trust myself to remember which one I had before. I add a banana, walnuts, chocolate chips or a nut butter.

I have also gotten into Siggi’s Icelandic Skyr Cream 4% with 8g of sugar. I like the strawberry or strawberry & rhubarb. The honey is good too.

Thanks, I have seen those but really didn’t pay much attention to them because they come in smaller containers. I like the big tubs, which are money savers per serving. You’d think I was thrifty the way I talk about “save per serving” but nope. Just bought a pair of boots I don’t need and am now looking for ways to recoup some money. 😀 I will definitely check out the plain Fage.

I also endorse Siggis 4% milk fat. The vanilla does have 8g sugar, but the sweetener is agave nectar, no white sugar or the devil- hfcs. It’s delicious!😋

Like others here, I buy plain Greek yogurt since it’s mainly destined for smoothies where it can be sweetened up with fruit. I like Clover’s version (if you can find that where you are) because it’s a bit silkier and less chalky-around-the-edges than others.

      Seconding your wilderness urges…

I’m wearing Zen by Shiseido, the white variation in the oddly shaped bottle. Strangely, I was cleaning things out of my guest bathroom yesterday and realized that what I had thought was a nearly-empty bottle of shower gel was actually a rather full bottle of perfume! I like surprises like that. Good reason for sorting out old stuff hanging around the house! Anyway it is a pleasant, rose-centric, very light scent, with a bit of incense in it too. It’s a nice one for this hot weather which continues unabated. I’m about to check flight schedules to see if I can take another trip back up to Michigan before too much longer!

I remember way back when, thinking I would be emptying and replacing bottles all the time! Nope.

I had to wait for the fog to burn off to pick my SOTD, but now it’s lovely and mild and sunny and I’m in Azemour and smelling properly like summer.

    Strawberries and yogurt smoothie

Well, I started with I Profumi Di Firenze Agrumi Di Sicilia to pretend it’s a warm day and later switched to Kenzo Summer for the same reason. Agrumi Di Sicilia has persisted but Summer is almost gone so I am now in Café Rose first version and enjoying it very much, I negected my bottle too long and its resurrection made me go through the perfume cabinet to retrieve it.

I can’t remember Cafe Rose so I should go smell it again! Wonder if they’ve already pulled the PB version from the stores.

Huh, do not think I have tried that one! Sounds lovely. (And sounds like sandalwood / nag champa incense)

Wearing a lemming-certified choice: Serge Lutens L’Eau Froide. After I read Victoria’s review at Bois de Jasmine, I decided I needed something frankincense forward. It did not disappoint. I find it masculine, and I think there are a lot of aquatic, screechy perfumes out there that it could remind me of, but this one has a magical waft. I can’t explain it, but I needed to read and think about it in order to smell what’s going on.

It is one gorgeous frankincense!! I wore mine year round and thunked the bottle. If you love it I recommend seeking out some frankincense essential oil

Thanks for the tip – the few places in town that have a good selection of oils are not on my beaten path. And I usually get overwhelmed when I see them all. But it would help if I have one or two in mind! I am impressed with your SL thunk, too!! That makes me wonder which SL I’d be most likely to get to thunk on.

The snow has finally passed north and we had a clear night and I was able to view Mercury in the evening sky. It’s very faint, needed binoculars for a decent view, but above Venus and to the left of Leo. We are lucky that our local museum director is an astronomer who writes a regular newspaper column giving really clear directions and maps of where to look and when. I love it. Even better while outside looking at the stars I could hear a native ruru ( morepork owl) in the trees nearby. Also lucky we have a dark sky and a quiet space for bird and frog calls. Really lucky. Wearing coco , pre-dawn of course, but the sun will shine today!

Been having a lovely view of the moon and a bright planet (not sure which) early in the mornings here. And lots of crickets chirping at night, which only seems to happen in August. Enjoy your sunshine! We just had a nice thunderstorm.

Trying Iced Nectar today from Solstice Scents which is a new to them I believe. Notes are Vanilla Waffle Cone, Apricot Jam, Peach Mango Ice Cream, Tahitian Vanilla. Plenty of vanilla for all! 🙂

Made a dumb oversight at work today which I will have to correct for and am trying not to mentally berate myself. I am taking PTO next week for a holiday up the coast and have been working extra to get everything done. Calgon take me away! 😉 An oldie but goodie commercial from my youth when one had to watch commercials.

I had a very busy day at work and will have to continue to put in some extra time tonight and tomorrow. I just spritzed on Neals Yard Frankincense, which is really helping to calm me down. I’m feeling very grateful for beautiful perfume right now!

Thank you! My partner and I are traveling by train tomorrow to Portland (3.5 hours) to see his dad, who will be there from Ohio for a convention. So other than a little travel stress of making it to the train on time and no delays, I think it should be a good weekend. We took Monday off to to recover and take care of chores like the grocery.

    SOTD = Amouage Jubilation XXV

Points for sure. I have a decant that must be 10 years old and it is still going strong because I cannot remember the last time I wore it. I used to be impressed with decants that had a replica of the label (like this one) but now I feel like that’s “too too”. Of course no knock on the ones who do but I can’t see myself doing that at all!

Now to decide what to wear tomorrow …
