My today’s choice for the CP is another old favorite of mine, John Galliano EDP. It is a very interesting mix of incense with a number of different notes. It opens with a blast of aldehydes and incense, but next minute the perfume goes into my favorite stage – “incense jam”. There are no fruity notes in the pyramid, but I definitely smell incense with something floral fruity (almost gourmand) for some time. I guess this “jammy” effect is created by rose, but bergamot, violet, peony, iris and lavender may also contribute. The dry down is rather restrained – floral woody incense. It is definitely enjoyable but less exciting than the heart.
The “cons” section of this perfume on Fragrantica is hilarious: “Occasionally deadly scent”, “May make some feel sad or weird”. I love how AI processed some funny reviews JG received. For a moment I thought it would be fun to have a guessing game using “pros” and “cons” from Fragrantica, but who can guess the perfume based on the descriptions like these ones?
Those “cons” are hilarious! And I love the term “incense jam.” In the Joy of Cooking, the authors describe lychee as having the flavor of “jellied incense,” which I’ve always found very apt for that (beloved) fruit.
I agree on that last bit…very funny! I think your game proposal would be hilarious. 😆

I’m wearing Memo Tiger’s Nest. It’s a little incongruous on this hot sunny day but it’s okay.
Yum!! For me the heavy hitters are amazing in the heat so not incongruous to my nose 😂
I would not dare to wear it on a hot weather, but it is an amazing incense scent.

I’m wearing L’Artisan Coeur de Vetiver Sacre, with lots of different notes, but I primarily smell the incense. A little much for the heat today.
Oh, interesting. CdVS is so light on me that it’s hard to imagine it being too much in the heat. I guess that’s partly why we’re all here at NST though, right — scent is different on everybody.
I sprayed lightly (for me – I’m a multiple spray person) but it is still noticeable more than five hours later. And the incense is still the note I’m smelling. Everybody’s skin is different and we all experience scent differently. I will probably wear this again when we exit triple digit heat.

Yesterday I purchased a bottle of Zagorsk. I sampled it ages ago and could not forget about it
In the store I also considered Kyoto, very very pretty and easier to wear.
But Zagorsk is like being transferred to another place and time.
Maybe ill get Kyoto another time, but I already have Hinoki and they feel like siblings….
I also tried Patchouli by SMN… and I cant stop thinking about it 😅 its a gorgeous scent.
Zagorsk is wonderful and debating on getting a back up bottle.

I was not able to find it online at a trusted-european retailer
But in this store (in The Hague) they had at least 3 bottles on the shelf 😅 (i just checked, it was not on their website… weird)

I can’t remember actually, they don’t carry the line at the moment, but perhaps they used to. I love Celeste (more so than Babassu). I got the very last bottle of La haie fleurie there (L’Artisan Parfumeur) and some other nice stuff. They were always very generous with samples and their online service was great as well. Ah, Shaal Nur and Palais Jamais, Etro did make some interesting scents back in the day. I got mine for a song on ebay. I’m always glad to hear when someone loves the decants/samples I sent them.
I swapped my bottle of Zagorsk ages ago and it’s another swap I regret. You smell great in Pd’E.

Benign polyps, regularly scheduled colonoscopies. I had one, went to a much more organic diet, haven’t had others. A real benefit of modern medicine!

Not even trying for a week of incense in CSP Amour de Cacao, my standby scent: I was feeling very indecisive this morning as I was getting ready for work, and Amour is never the wrong choice.
Perfect.
It should be summer here but was only about 14 when I left the house this morning. Wearing Hermes Gallop, which I love. I’ll never get over spraying pure parfum. Feels too decadent for words, but I really love this scent and its stirrup shaped bottle.

I do not smell an incense note. I looked it up on the ELDO site—nope, no incense note. Sigh. Now I smell like Jasmin et Cigarette.

Chilly, foggy morning here, and I was in the mood for straightforward cheerfulness and beauty, so I’m in Rose Flash. Friends, I have too much perfume — I realized last night that we’re rounding the corner into the last week of summer here and I’ve been completely neglecting three of my most favorite summer scents: Thé Pour Une Été, L’Ombre Dans l’Eau, and Azemour. Simply because I… sort of forgot about them?? So, now they’re front and center on my counter.
Gosh. I haven’t worn those 3 enough either.

Apparently Jubilation 25 has incense in it, so I’m still doing the cp. I had intended to wear Trayee, but somehow that didn’t quite happen. I’m not a morning person at the best of times and I couldn’t get to sleep last night.
Back to Jub 25, it’s such a great perfume with lots of decaying fruit. I tend to wear it instead of Enlèvement au sérail. They are quite similar and I’ve only got a bit of Enlèvement left.

I’m having so much fun comparing the different levels of smokiness and “churchy-ness” in the scents I’ve worn this week! Last night was a few dabs of Jaisalmer from a sample. I liked it but it was so faint on me.
Such a bummer that Incense Flash disappeared so quickly.
SOTD is Incense Water by Sana Jardin. Great for warmer days.

For my first incense perfume for this week, I am wearing Annick Goutal Mandragore Pourpre and currently drinking my second cup of Earl Grey tea.
I’ve been curious about this scent-is it deeper than Mandragore? Or just totally different?

Chanel Boy today. When it was released I smelled on paper, maybe on skin, and was not a fan. Lavender can go south on me fast, and it was a bit too fougerey for me.
But….was recently in a Chanel beauty boutique and sprayed this on paper. Then on skin. Then asked for a sample. Then lost the sample. Then got it in my head last night to look for it where I thought I left it and ta da!
Long story short, I smell great.
As a lavendar side note, I’ve been dealing with clothing moths in my closet for a while now. Cedar products did nothing for me. I have those sticky moth traps, and they are trapping some moths. Yay. A couple weeks ago I ordered some very fragrant lavendar sachets for my closet and replaced the moth trap with a fresh one last night. I am hoping this gets me closer to larvae-and-moth-free situation so I don’t have to buy a small freezer chest to keep in my bedroom to store my wool and cashmere sweaters in….but I will do that if i have to!
We have had them for years. The traps work great to trap adults and keep the population down, but I am not willing to do the bigger methods to totally eradicate them, so I do keep my wool and cashmere in plastic ziplock baggies, which means I don’t wear much wool and cashmere anymore…too much trouble.

Like so many others this week I’m enjoying the heck out of CdG Kyoto.
It’s a tiny bit cooler today, in the low 80’s vs high 80’s which makes a big difference, at least to me. We are parked under some huge shade trees at a local park, and here we’ll sit until evening. This is our routine on days off if we don’t head to the coast. This coming weekend is supposed to be over 100F.
Thinking of folks who are going through some tough stuff right now and wishing you extra strength and fortitude as you wade through it all.

Ice and snow this morning and like Oakland Fresca I was not in the mood for incense at all so am wearing the very cheerful Eau Moheli. Does the trick.

At 23C the weather was a bit warmer and with sunny spells. Chose Caron Eau de Réglisse this morning, a citrussy liquorice I like quite a bit and tonight a citrussy vanilla, Franck Boclet Vanille.

Well, we’ve got Kanuka’s cold and wet weather from yesterday, and she’s shivering in a very heavy frost. We had a mild start to winter, but not a mild end!
I’m wearing Paestum Rose, as planned. I’m hoping it will make me think of warmer climes.

I chose Ta’if Elixir early this morning. It faded, so I added some Rebecca Minkoff body spray that I picked up from Marshall’s. It has labdanum, which is used in the making of incense, so I’m claiming points! 😊

L’Orpheline, because Calypso reminded me of it and because I love it! It intrigues me because I feel like its composition is likely a more personal statement by M. Lutens. It is unusual and also seems luxurious in an old-fashioned way.
IIRC, L’Orpheline caused a bit of a stir here when it came out.
