It's Hump Day and National Daiquiri Day. Birthdays: Edgar Degas, Alice Dunbar Nelson, Brian May. What fragrance are you wearing?
I went with the big guns today: Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess.
Reminder: on 7/21, wear something beachy, or anything you think of as "a vacation in a bottle". (This is a repeat from 2014).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Today it’s Odori Tabacco, all rich tobacco with powdery undertones. It smells refined, like a gentleman with an expensive pipe.
Nice!
Today I went with ELDO Fils De Dieu Du Riz et Des Agrumes. It reminds me of Shalimar, but at the same time it has a lot of unique qualities. Unlike Shalimar, it is very wearable in summer, and I am really enjoying it today.
You smell great today, Glannys! 😊
Thank you!
Oh, you are my favorite NSTer today! Smelling just fabulous! I think of you and your situation often, and I’m hoping you will have a peaceful day filled with good smells! 🌹🌸🌸💐🌺🌷🌼
😀👋🙏
I’m wearing Bigarade Concentree, from a mini. Really good citrus.
PriscillaE, I love your SOTD 🙂 great for summer.
I’m in Carnal Flower-got up early (5 am) to go to yoga before work. Left house with wet hair, drove like mad-no one there lol. I must have missed the memo.
Darn. At least you smell great!
lol yes. Yoga was Tues. Time for some vacation, I think 🙂
I bought a bottle of that for a very old friend (he’s not old, but the friendship is. We’ve know each other since we were 15) at the Chicago Barney’s back in 2013. He loved it and emptied it in one summer. And it was the big bottle! 😃
CP compliant in Kai oil perfume, for the Hawaiian beachy vibe! Wish I could be there!
Happy Wednesday! 🌞🏖
If I win the Lotto I will send you to Hawaii! 🤞🌷
Lol! Offer kindly and happily accepted! 🤞😄
Kai was a favorite of mine for years.
I don’t wear it often in summertime anymore, but I always enjoy it when I revisit it.
I hope that someday you get to the beaches of Hawaii!
Someday! 🌞
Yay for Kai.
😊
For the CP Ilha Do Mel
I am not familiar with the scent, but I love the name, Honey Island. Sounds delicious.
Here are the notes
Oil of mandarin, hyacinth accord, broom flower absolute, Iris concrete, Orange blossom absolute, Vetiver, oil of Vanilla, musk
Memo fragrances are interesting, I would give it a whiff the next time you are at the counter
I’m back in L’Eau Mixte, my designated scent of the summer and thunk target.
Fun day today: there’s a cooking class at noon and a “wine down Wednesday” get together this afternoon. 🍷
Enjoy, those do sound fun.
What did you make in your cooking class?
She showed us how to make three different snacks on naan bread. Peaches and prosciutto with ricotta (she calls it food glue), guacamole and arugula salad and strawberries with orange marmalade + chipotle and Gorgonzola. It was all yum.
We’re headed for a VERY hot day for the PNW, and my “beach” scent for the day is Profumum Acqua di Sale. It’s even saltier than yesterday’s Rosa Saltifolia — the notes for AdS per LuckyScent are “aroma of salt on the skin, myrtle, cedarwood, marine algae” and, except for the cedar (which is very understated here), that description is pretty much spot on. It’s a new 💗 😍
They do pretty LE bottles for that one, too.
I didn’t know about those, but a search turned up images of the LE bottle from 2021 and now I want one!
Byredo Open Sky, for a day of cleaning and organizing.
I love cleaning and organizing!
I’d like to invite you over to my apartment. For organizing, if you please. I’ll make chocolate peanut butter banana bread. 😋
You could just keep cazaubon around to make your house smell good.
LOL! I bake too, I would make a banana bread!
Banana bread throw down! 🍌
Next up in summer favorites, Zoologist Bee. I will still be smelling it tomorrow morning, it is tenacious!
This one lasts a long time on me too.
I love Bee. It gives me a buzz.
Har har!
Ha!
You smell fantastic. One of my latest scent love!
Thanks pl67!
Diptyque Florabellio for me today, which has always seemed watery / beachy to me.
Everyone keeps telling me I came home to a heat wave, and I’m just kind of laughing. It’s supposed to get up to 29C today (low 80s F), which is hot for here, but nothing like the 44C it supposedly was in Athens on Friday!
Running around crazily — came home to annual budget season, with projections due the day after I got home, despite being booked all day in meetings. Plus single-parenting that involves driving the kid across the city and coming home twice a day, and a filthy house that desperately needs a vacuum due to all the renovation work and I don’t have time to do the cleaning…sigh. Laundry and unpacking also await. Maybe I’ll get a breather for an hour this afternoon?
Yikes, welcome home….? I hope you at least have a working shower?!🤞
Yes, the shower works. The tub doesn’t, because they ordered the wrong diverter. And there’s no mirror in the washroom. But we can shower and we do have a new toilet with a fancy Japanese toilet seat. (e.g., our butts are warm but we can’t do our makeup or brush our hair in the washroom!)
Ugh, the piled-up chores are the worst part about a vacation. Welcome back!
Wow, what a rude back-from-vacay awakening! Good luck getting through this week!
I’m in Terracotta again. It’s perfect weather for it this week.
Song of the day:
https://youtu.be/PGNiXGX2nLU
This was playing on the radio when I got into my car this morning and I just thought how can I not have a good day when this is how it’s starting?! So that’s the plan for the day, have a good one!🤘🌞
You are smelling good!
Thanks!
Ha! I just heard that yesterday on the radio. 🌞🤘
Ha!😆 great song, and great video- that hair! Speaking of the ‘80’s have you seen or heard about the documentary The Super Models coming to appletv this fall? I’m going to have to re up my subscription just to watch that.
Better than the K-pop I started my day with on the run to camp! (Today Ockeghem Teen tried to explain the band ATEEZ to me by telling me that their concept is “dystopian pirate.” Hmm. :D)
I haven’t heard of that band or the concept of dystopian pirate- I feel so old!🤣
Most awesome Song of the Day! 🎶
🤘🎶
Great song! Brings back so many memories of high school for me.
Same!😁
I am twins with Robin this morning in Bronze Goddess as I decide whether to keep the bottle or not. This was one of the perfumes “everyone” raved about when I first fell down the rabbit hole, but it has never done much for me. It needs to impress me today or out it goes!
I finished Abraham Verghese’s “The Covenant of Water” over the weekend. It’s a lovely book, about three generations of family in Kerala, India.
I just bought this book a few weeks ago. It sounded really good. I have liked another book by the same author.
Book ready for flight to Africa.
I bought it for my Kindle! It sounds so good, thank you. I’ll save it until when I start my vacation next week (a trip to Michigan, mostly to see family but with some fun times too, I hope–and cooler weather!).
And P.S., have you ever read the Ibis Trilogy by Amitav Ghosh? Speaking of very long, multi-generational, epics by an Indian author? It’s fantastic.
Amazon says I bought Sea of Poppies in 2008 but I have no recollection of it. Maybe it was a gift for someone. I will read it on your recommendation. BTW, I laughed at the story of your Delina purchase because I bought it at Nordie’s in 2019 and our tastes are so similar. At the same time my friend bought Delina Exclusif, which I didn’t care for.
pbi – if you haven’t yet read A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth, you must put it on your list!
Done! Thank you! I’m always looking for good books to read.
It’s very, very long, just be forewarned. I have to admit, I skipped a few parts without harm.
I was thinking about making a deal to take this off your hands for you, but now I know why, after looking up the notes, why I never tried it: coconut. A major nemesis.
Thanks for the book tip!
Just not feeling very beachy this week even though I’m currently at the beach. Yesterday at the last minute I decided to nix the Bronze Goddess idea and just wore my Kopari Glow Sunblock oil which has a really subtle beachy scent. Then, as I was cleaning up, I found a decant of RD Enslavement from a split (with the inimitable hajusuuri, iirc) which really tickled my fancy. I may go with that again today.
I’m on the coast but still, the sun is blistering and the heat will ratchet up as the day progresses. I have a few run around things to do, but nothing urgent. I’m reading a book Kanuka recommended a while back, so that my big plan for the day. Living in the fast lane!
Just finished a large omelette with peppers, cheese and shrooms, so I’m stuffed and moving slooow! 😆
Yum! I would love to be moving slowly. 🙂
That omelet sounds supremely tasty! 😋
I think it be me because I remember not being happy about the name but it is a fantastic perfume!
Rummaging around for beachy scents, I remembered EL Beyond Paradise Blue. It is very wearable for me, but has a grapefruit note and that always misbehaves with my skin chemistry. It is not like the OG, but does eventually get to the floral-tropical stage. Honestly, I blind bought it because I am an EL fangirl and wanted the lovely bottle. I also note that it does not have the lasting power of the OG nor of most Estee Lauder scents.
At least that pesky grapefruit note eventually goes away for you…
Chanel 1932
Hope it was a good Wednesday Barqs.
I am not so much beachy scents anymore. Something changed in my chemistry I suppose.
We had such a cool and foggy start to May and June that I got the lowest electric I can remember in years and only put ac and lighter fragrances on since the 6th of July.
Today I am wearing OJ Taif for the first time since last summer. It is, of course, beautiful.
You smell wonderful!
It is such an elegant scent. 🩷
Lower utility bills are something nice to have for a change.
I’m trying to capture the scent of some of our beaches on a cold, winter’s day. The meandering tracks leading to the sand often cut through wet gorse, broom and tussock and grass ( so a sweet, wheat-type scent) before cutting through dunes and opening onto volcanic, basalt round boulders covered in drift wood and kelp , and dark grey-black sand. So, I’m combining JM mallow on the moor ( like a more feral mimosa cardamon) for the bitter creaminess of the wild flowers with Miller Harris La Pluie for the tussock and wetness. I’m lacking the salt and rot of kelp but will keep thinking. My gym backs onto a playground beside a long grey surf beach so I always manage a walk first, marvelling at the big southern ocean waves …next landfall would be the Antarctic, which always amazes me. Wet and cold here, and dark, and still winter…and maybe snow tonight.
My winter-beach scent was also a Miller Harris, namely Fleur de Sel. Passed it on to someone who’d really liked it.
I love Fleur de Sel…hanging on to the dregs of a sample. I should think about buying it someday, probably, but then I already have a FB of Sel de Vetiver that’s similar and that will probably outlast me. 🙂
Fleur de Sel seems to be getting scarce on the US side of the Atlantic, so you might want to get that sooner rather than later.
What a vivid description, although a bit ominous-sounding. I’m not sure I’d be glad to include the smell of rotting kelp, though!
sounds wonderful.
My nephew and his family are visiting Norway and its cold and raining.
They live in Florida and are enjoying the chill in the air.
Do you think OJ Woman with braken has a feel for what you are deliciously describing?
I have never smelled OJ Woman but it could work. Kelp has a depth to it that goes beyond nori, kind of ambergris and nori combined
Excellent take on the CP – I love the beach/shore/ocean in any weather!
It’s a shame Goutals Vetiver is no longer made, it had quite a strong salty note (and packed a punch).
All we get in the Northern Hemisphere is unnerving stories of overheated cities, and even though the weather is very bearable in Luxembourg I’m kind of longing for cooler days, a pity they are always so short though. I love long summer evenings.
Lovely images! You may want to try 4160 Tuesdays Saltburn Driftwood.
… or Jo Malone Salty Amber
… or Marissa Zappas Petrichor
In Malibu Lemon Blossom, which kinda says “beach” right in the name
Good one!
I am not a great fan of Terracotta but like BG, so I might wear it Friday but our cool summer weather is not conducive to beachy scents this year, part of the world are sweltering but it’s not the case of London, 21C currently.
First I chose Hanae Mori ‘Butterflies’ extrait, wonder whether it’s still sold at FragranceX where I got it, tonight I am in Mitsouko extrait which I don’t wear often but is so plush.
I think it gets down to around 20 or 21 degrees C here overnight. But you remember the NJ/NY summer swelter all too well!
Keep cool, yes I recall those dogs’ days of summer, not something I miss.
I’m a long way from the beach in my SotD. I’m continuing my associationnof beach with holiday and something I’ve bought on holiday, so I’m in my recent purchase of SL’s Ecrin de Fumée.
Perfect!
Love your choice of picture today, Robin, very colourful and summery.
I’m wearing Musc monoï another perfect summer scent from Nicolaï. It has a gentle presence that has had me furtively sniffing myself all day.
Thanks, and believe it or not I tried to find my MM today. Failed! Glad someone is wearing it.
I’m not sure I have an actual beachy scent but I’m going with the idea of coconut from suntan oil, and wearing Chay Mimosa Blossom. It is from a company that didn’t make many fragrances and is totally out of business, so hard to find much about. This has a delicate floral note and quite a bit of coconut.
When we went to the beach as kids it would always be Lake Michigan, and that is rather different from beaches with salt water. I think it just mostly smelled like cool fresh air! Not something you get in a bottle. Except a few summers when I was in high school we couldn’t even go there at all because there was a plague of dead fish on the shore–alewives–and it stank to high heaven. I believe they died off en masse because of invasive species eating their food source. I don’t think even Zoologist would go the dead fish route.
Eew, I remember those summers! It was just awful. (They need to have an emoji holding its nose. )
Rotting fish is one of the nastiest things I can think of. BLETCH! 🤢
Aerin Iris Meadow for a very mild and sunny day(22° celcius,my kind of winters’ day!)
Making a list from all the beachy scents you guys are wearing that I am yet to try.
✌🏻🌹🌞🤗
Is that a new one from Aerin?
It’s one of the early ones, not sure if they still make it or not.
https://freebox.it.com/2014/10/22/aerin-iris-meadow-waterlily-sun-brief-only-slightly-cranky-perfume-reviews/%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E
I’m in total agreement with your review of Iris Meadow, especially the flat drydown! But I do appreciate the powdery-rooty iris note.
No need to get a bub though….🤷🏼♂️😉✌🏻
🙂
I am intrigued by the “cool beach” vibe since that is not the common interpretation. I had a sample of Sel Marin that I think expressed that well. I will probably pull out Bronze Goddess later in the week.
No beach for me today. Going to funeral service of an acquaintance who passed. We were not close but our paths crossed enough over the past 2 decades and the death was a shock to me.
I am going with Avignon, since incense has an ethereal feel to me and is inoffensive.
So sorry about your acquaintance, hope the funeral was a comfort. You did smell great, love Avignon.
Speaking of Fleur de Sel, I was wearing that this morning. I got tired of the Atlantic beach so tonight I’m going to the Pacific with Chantecaille Tiare. 🏝️
Fleur de Sel is one of the perfumes that got away for me.
Has it been discontinued?
Last time I went looking for it on the Internet, I couldn’t find it. But it wasn’t the most exhaustive search.
Ah. I guess I got my bottle when it was still around.
Oh, a daiquiri sounds pretty good right now! I certainly have the tropical-feeling weather for one today. It’s soupy out there! 🥵😵
Did a huge honking load of whites this afternoon. Feels good to have that done.
SOTD = still in Korres Guava lotion.
My lips smacked together with daiquiri but I am limiting myself to one drink per week and so far so good!
I am imbibing a lot less than I used to. I still have a few beers in the fridge from last year, when I picked them up.
Hermes Neroli Dore, which is so honeyed and pretty. Super fleeting, in Osmanthe Yunnan territory. Super fleeting. Will go through my travel spray in no time. Very pretty and fresh without trending soapy (i love soapy scents, not a dig).
Way more floral than I expected.
Neroli Dore is extremely pretty! So far, it’s the only FB I have from Hermes.
I’m in a lot of scents because I’m decanting and splitting a bottle. I’m mostly smelling of Iris de Gris, which is great for the heat.
I’ve had a rough few weeks, it’s been unfun parenting my young teen lately. He’s not trouble, in fact he’s a very good kid. But I’ve just been learning more than I ever wanted to know about teenage boys. Also as a person with a very even disposition, I’m struggling with dealing with teen mood swings. Some days I feel like I’ve offended him just by breathing!
My sympathies to you! Teen years are rough.
Oy! I’ve never been thisclose to a teen boy so I can only sympathize.
Teen girls aren’t much better as far as mood swings. Pretty sure that I was a pain in my parents’ rear ends back in the day with those.
SOTD = Amouage Love Mimosa
Flowers as far as the eyes can see, errrrr, nose can smell? 🤣
I haven’t checked as yet but perhaps I may have won something yesterday. You got to be in it to win it, right?
Question – I had signed up for Jessica’s talk at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York City) this Saturday at 2PM. Is anyone interested in going in my place? It’s my treat. If no one takes it, there’s a small chance I may go but it is unlikely. If interested, please email me; click on my username for the email address.
Now off to read comments!
Last week I found a stash of long forgotten samples that I used to keep at work. They are definitley pre-covid, and some may be from as far back as 2016, so I figured I should put them at the top of the rotatation and thunk/toss. Today I’m in Ofresia, which is as pretty as I remember with sweet spring flowers.
Tea today was Bonfire Chai, whch is supposed to be smokier and spicier than Masala Chai from the addition of lapsang and dried chilis. I don’t get much smoke, but I do get noticably more (plesant) heat and I like it.
A smoky Masala Chai sounds interesting. I might have a couple of teas I can mix for the desired effect.
Posting late.
My sotd was bbw Coco Paradise body spray. I did about 20 sprays but it’s been long gone.
I wish I would have bought the matching lotion.
Is there a current BBW lotion that would work with it? Or something from The Body Shop, maybe?
I do have a few plain coconut lotions that I will try to layer with next time. I wonder if a vanilla lotion would go good too? I guess I will be experimenting.
I had to look up your sotd. On Fragrantica, a few said it’s similar to Alien Goddess Intense. Not sure if this helps?
Interesting.. I haven’t tried that one yet, but now I want to.
