Bell jar. Lutens doesnt discontinue many scents, but the marketing is extremely confusing. (Although I see that the Section d’Or scents do seem to be discontinued, and at that price point I’m not surprised — they can’t have sold well.)
Serge Lutens famously never discontinued anything, but that has dadly changed. I don’t know about Jeux de Peau, but Mandarine Mandarin is discontinued. I trotted into the SL boutique in Paris in April for a long-planned purchase and couldn’t get it.

It’s not beachy, but it sure is summery: Demeter Grass, not particularly accurate — it’s barely adjacent to the smell of a freshly mown lawn I wanted — but great fun nonetheless, bright and green and cheerful.
Summery is enough if it reminds you of vacation!
Back after a week in the woods wearing insect repellant. I am still on a quest to finish my bottle of Tauer Lys au Désert.
Other than insects, how was it?
It was great! Cool and foggy most of the time, which was a nice break from the heat and humidity in the city. Went for an early morning hike to a mountaintop lookout point and was alone on the trail all the way up, enjoying the fantastic smell of fresh pine and ocean air. Our campground was very close to the beach and we could hear the waves crashing at night in bed. Heavenly.

I’ve had 4 diffrent variations and a body oil,and although there are tweaks here and there,the core of what “Bronze Goddess” is has always remained in all of them.

Ugh, it’s a Monday over here. I’m trying to perk it up a little with a few spritzes from Ffern Summer ’23. This is the first bottle I’ve wanted to keep. Which is a good thing, because it arrived while I was traveling and didn’t have enough time to send it back, lol! It’s a nice concoction of the usual citruses with osmanthus woven through. I was in the mood for a new summer refresher.
My traveling ended up being, except for a couple of days, a complete fiasco. Ended up testing positive for Covid on Day 3 of the planned 10-day trip. 😖 Luckily, my elderly aunt had just received a booster and she did not get sick. Two of my cousins did, however. Plus, I spent 3 days huddled in bed, trying to not breathe on my DH in the studio apartment we rented. Miraculously, he escaped the curse. So this wasn’t too awful, but I had to cancel the next few days’ stay in Wasilla, AK with my brother and SIL. Now that was disappointing.
I might never fly again. 😆

I wore Aura lotion and edp today. I will have to do some searching for the CP. Every summer I get an urge to get a beachy-type scent and…don’t. What a disappointment, I’m sorry it wasn’t as planned.

I’m in Terracotta for the cp.
I got so much done over the weekend! We took some old tvs to the city drop off recycling site and cleared out the freshly painted basement in anticipation of new carpet. We finally decided it was time for our 20+ year old futon couch to go bye bye. I disassembled it and my h carried it out to the curb. I zip tied the ziploc bag of hardware to one of the pieces on the off chance that someone would take it and sure enough within a few hours we saw a college age girl and her mom carry it away. One of the perks of living near a college campus. Part of me was sad to see it go but part of me was happy to see it get a second life instead of ending up in the landfill. Reduce, reuse, recycle, right?!
We put our futon out on the curb and before I could even get all the parts outside someone stole 3 wooden slats out of the frame. I guess theirs was broken and they needed replacements? The whole think disappeared the same day.
We have a futon that we are trying to get rid of. Most places that take furniture in my area won’t accept futons.

I don’t have many beachy scents! Wish I had some Guerlain Terracotta but I think the coconutty drydown of Parisian Musc will have to do. PM is such a beast, it lingers on fabrics forever and is the only perfume I get compliments on from strangers. I’m not always in the mood for it so it’s tricky.

I’m wearing Mon Numero 9 for the citron and rhubarb. Just got a decant from STC, and I like it.
Citron and rhubarb does sound nice — I never tried that set.
I’m not a fan of beachy scents or coconut, so this week my project will be a tour of summertime no brainers. They are all parked on top of my perfume cabinet.
First up is Jo Malone Tangy Rhubarb. Love the scent, love the bottle. I overate and underslept this weekend, mostly out of boredom and procrastination, so it’s time to work out, straighten up and fly right. 💪🏻

Tangy Rhubarb is great. Surprisingly long-lasting for what it is, at least on me.

You’re right, it wasn’t too strong, it actually could have been a bit stronger, but it was quite pleasant whenever I got a whiff of it. Some may call it an old fashioned fragrance, but I liked it.

On the description I read I did not see neroli which I dislike but I liked the idea of bug deterent. It is good when I am outside but too much for me when inside which we are not inside much here. And I can always wash in off in the lake swimming!
Oh, I never did try that one when it was out last year, but did see they released it again. I like neroli so I should probably try it some day.

This morning I’m giving Valaya by Parfums de Marly a good try, with a lot of sprays from the nice sample I got with the Delina set I purchased at Nordstrom’s last week. Valaya is their newest release and it’s another beauty, sort of like Delina made over again with white flowers instead of rose. It’s got the same composition with bergamot, a fruit (here peach), florals, musk and vanilla. If I get another one of their scents I think it will be Safanad, because that one is more unusual and distinctive.
Yesterday I got both my Covid booster and my shingles vaccine. I was overdue for both. I worried it would be bad but so far I’m doing all right except that my arms are very achy (one shot in each arm). If you are near or over 50, it’s really recommended that you get the Shingrix (two-dose) vaccine. A friend got shingles recently and had a horrible case with bad itchy rash on her head, face, and one eye–it’s a very painful and scary thing. I remember also that my grandmother had it and would cry from the pain.
Shingles can be so disabling. I’ve had patients that have suffered terribly from it. I got my two step last year and don’t remember much about it so it must not have been too bad.
Getting the shingles shot is on my “To Do” list.
I plan on getting the shingles vaccine this fall.
100% agree on the shingles shots recommendation. I got mine after knowing two people where it persisted for a year. My sister had it bad once but she recovered decently quickly. I had a minor case, and didn’t want to take any more chances.
Sprayed myself down with Hermes Un Jardin sur le Nil this morning, but left one arm clean for testing. Tried A Drop d’Issey Issey Miyake less than an hour ago, and it’s sitting pretty close. My skin has been eating my fragrance (or is my lotion killing it?), so this isn’t meant to be any sort of guidance on its performance. It’s nice.
Will probably go blast myself with the Hermes again.

I’m in Angeliques Su la Pluie-I need a quiet unassuming sort of scent this week. So I’m perfumed so that only I can smell myself. I love its crispness and quietness. Are those even words lol.

Sill testing these Kerosenes. Today is Unknown Pleasures. I was looking forward to smelling lemon meringue pie, but what I get is lemon and coconut. So I’m kind of CP compliant, if “beachy” means coconut, but I think I would have preferred the pie scent. I might try it again and put more on, I just applied a dab to each wrist.

I don’t think I have anything that I’d describe as beachy, so I’m going with other things that remind me of holidays. I’m wearing SL’s Fille en Aiguilles today, pine scents make me think of summer holidays. That smell of pine trees in the sun – wonderful.

D&G La Roue de la Fortune today, I don’t wear it often but I enjoyed it, it’s in the vein of Angel, tonight it’s Imperial Opoponax or Oppoponax as Fragrantica calls it, smelling like the drydown of Shalimar.
I was OBSESSED with this whole line when they just launched,and had every single one,and used them all till the very last drop!Fortune was a favorite!
I didn’t have a chance to try the others, only l’Imperatrice is still in production. La Roue is very nice.
Most of those D&G Anthology perfumes were hard to find here, except for #3, L’Imperatrice. For some reason, it was all over the place.
That one turned to straight body odor on me. So much so that I couldn’t stop laughing at how bad I smelled🤣

I got a load of over-sweetened watermelon from the sample I had of that. Not a fan.
Wfh today, and wearing the newest formulation of Miss Dior EdP. They removed the patchouli so it is no longer a fruitchouli and is a softly rounded woody floral. Two sprays turn to a skin scent pretty quickly on me, not a complaint, and I like it a lot. I don’t know if I will buy a bottle, but I might do it this winter.
I took a number of years off from buying perfume, and this year I’ve gotten back on the wagon – again, not a complaint! Having fun expanding my wardrobe for new likes.
Definitely wait until winter to get any Christmas discounts.

I haven’t looked at our Target’s fragrance selection in a while – it’s always been very small and my recollection is of Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift fragrances being front and center, with the bottles attached to a fancy shelf with little cables. @_@
Our Target has an in-store Ulta which I may have browsed twice – it is mini-mini and has a selection of mainstream perfumes.
The fragrance section where I found these (not the Ulta) took up half of a display set up (all rows) and has the retractable cable for each bottle. There’s never anyone around to help nor are there scent strips… there’s good stuff though I would consider most of the “off-mainstream”.
I’ll have to give ours a second look!

Had someone in the house today to measure the stairs leading up to the bedrooms for carpet. The new carpet will probably be going in 2 weeks from now. Every renovation that is done is taking me that much closer to moving out, sigh.
Question for the NST brain trust: is it normal to pay an application fee for apartments now? I haven’t rented since the 1990’s, and I don’t remember having to pay something like that.

Jalapeno be very careful when looking for apartments. There are scammers out there posing as renters when really there is no apartment. It’s recommended to see the place with your own eye’s if you can before giving any money. Are you planning on staying in your current area? ( apologies if that is too nosy of a question)
I am planning to look at potential apartments in August. But it means I have to fly out to CO to do so. My brother will be helping me out with that.

I’m doing Ultimate Cat Sitting this week. We’re in a little cat sitting coop with 3 of our neighbors, and I have drawn the short straw this week: they are all away! So I have 4 households worth of cats to serve. That’s my week sorted, lol…

I’m in a sample of Les Indemodables Patchouli Noisette. No CP points today; it started with patchouli and a crystalized ginger note that warmed it up, and the hazelnut came out later on. Patchouli forward frags are hit -or-miss on my skin, and this one is a miss.
I was in Philly this weekend and picked up some tea from a place called Head Nut. I’m drinkng their Chocolate black tea today and it is good, but not as good as my trusty Chocolate Puer.
Crystalized ginger, hazelnut, and patchouli sounds almost edible. Is it?
No, it is a perfumey patchouli. It isn’t soapy in the way I think of soapy notes, but it does smell as though, if you ate it, it would taste like a bar of patchouli glycerine soap. Like circa 1990s Body Shop gylcerine soap bars.
I had the day off so I wore a few perfumes today. One of them was JD Singularity. Many people on Fragrantica say it smells like old school coppertone. I mainly smell Lilac. Like Neroli, Lilac can smell like potting soil on me. I don’t know why this happens.
I also wore Deseo and LVEB Iris Absolue.
