It's Hump Day and Simplicity Day (Henry David Thoreau’s birthday). Update: RIP Milan Kundera. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Diptyque Eau des Sens to honor perfumer Olivier Pescheux, who died Monday.
Reminder: 7/14 is Bastille Day. See if you might possibly have anything French in your collection? Extra points for extra-French-ness, or for silly perfume Frenchification. (This is a repeat from 2017).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I planned to wear Shalimar today but I’m joining Robin in honoring Olivier Pescheu, so I’m wearing Diptique Tempo.
We had thunderstorms this morning and Larry the cat disappeared. He does this sometimes and I can never find him, then he’ll materialize out of thin air. Cats are amazing.
Cats really are amazing!
I had forgotten how much work Pescheux did for Diptyque. He also did L’Eau des Hesperides, which I would not mind having a bottle of — not sure they even still make it.
Hiding kitties – yep, they sure can. =^v^=
Cats really ARE amazing!! It’s no surprise to me why the Egyptians revered them😻
Cats come with their own personal Tardis!
L’Artisan Pafumeur Safran Troublant? Sounds pretty French to me! It’s like a conjuring trick, a vanilla oriental that’s somehow light and airy without being synthetically fresh and clean. My favourite Olivia Giacobetti.
love this one too! will have to wear it again soon.
I am wearing Annick Goutal Eau d’Hadrien, one of my favourite summer scents.
Perfect!
Too hot and humid today in the 90’s. I lavishly applied on BBW Cucumber Melon body cream and mist after a long shower with the body wash. It is very refreshing and a no-brainer scent for a week working outside.
Having a break now and on my second big cup of iced coffee. No complaints from my side about the weather yet!
Happy Wednesday! 🌞
Have errands to run later today and I suspect an iced coffee is in my future too 🙂
Happy Wednesday to you pl67!
Enjoy that iced coffee Robin! You will need it!
I did get one and it was lovely. Almost makes running errands worth doing 🙂
As a belated nod to Piña Colada day I’m wearing Histoires de parfums 1804, the George Sand one. It happens to be my favourite pineapple in perfume and George Sand was very French.
Greetings Austenfan! It’s nice to see you here again. Hope you’re doing well.
I am wearing Hermes 24 Faubourg. It smells very French to me, and it is named after an address in Paris.
House twin!🙌
I’m in Chanel Paris – Deauville today.
You smell great, PriscillaE! This is one of my top 3 most worn summer perfumes. If I didn’t have so many choices I could see myself just wearing this one all the time.
Double points for me in Matiere Premiere Parisian Musc. Big big sillage of green fig sap and creamy notes. I don’t get that much ambrette from it but I enjoy this a lot when the mood strikes.
Rest in power, Olivier Pescheux. Will wear Fleur de Peau in honor tonight.
Perfect.
Greetings from Iceland!
I won’t post too much about that yet but we finally made it after our flight out of Chicago was cancelled. Should be getting our bags back in less that an hour, as their journey was worse than ours.
I didn’t bring perfume in my carry-on so during our day in Chicago I dragged us to Smallflower. I smelled a few lines I hadn’t tried in person before, and ended up buying a small bottle of Bukhara by Gallivant. Clearly influenced by Iris Silver Mist and not loud enough to bother anyone. Plus it was a pretty reasonable price for a little bottle.
I did see Chanel Pour Monsieur EdT at the Reykjavik airport, which we allegedly can’t get in the US anymore. I might have a hard time turning that down….
Have a great day, everyone!
Just get it, it’s great!
It is, isn’t it?
Enjoy your trip! Hope your bags catch up to you soon!🤞
Got them last night, thank goodness!
Bukhara was a very nice purchase! Enjoy it!
No regrets! 🩵
Have a great time!
Get the Chanel!
Seriously considering it!
Have a great trip, and I also think if one sees a rare perfume in duty free, one should pounce! Iceland has been on my bucket list since the day one of my favorite professors chided some of my classmates about spending hundreds of dollars (this was in the ’70’s) to go to Florida for Spring Break. He said why don’t you spend the same amount of money and go to Reykjavik? They all laughed, and probably saw his point, but went to Florida (or maybe Gulf Shores) anyway!
It’s true! I was just thinking about how it isn’t that crazy for a roundtrip ticket! I could personally leave the cruise ship, which is most of the cost.
I’ll be honest I had higher expectations of the duty free shops but the Chanel was a nice surprise.
Were you on the flight to Reykjavik where the pilot detoured to give all the passengers an up-close look at an erupting volcano?
We were, but it was too cloudy to see from the plane! We saw it on the horizon on the drive though.
Glad you arrived, hope you have your luggage by now, and another vote to buy the Chanel!
Thank goodness yes, bags arrived! I think y’all are right about the Chanel.
Yay!
Sur le Nil for the cp. I should have gone with Fleur de Peau or Orpheon to honor Oliver Pescheaux, maybe tomorrow.
Back to work after my uncles celebration of life yesterday. It was probably the loveliest event of that type I’ve ever been too. A photo stream and music played the whole time in the background while family and friends gathered to pay their respects. So so many people came and I was glad to see that. I did pretty well up until taps was played after the military salute, and it was time to leave and I hugged my aunt.😥
The evening before the celebration I saw the most beautiful rainbow, and I am convinced it was a sign. Thank you all for your kind words and allowing me to share. It has been helpful as I continue to process this.☺️
How wonderful that you had that lovely rainbow experience and that the celebration went so well.
Thanks Calypso.
oh yes, a sign.
I think so too. I could see the entire thing, from end to end! It’s been years since I’ve seen one like that. Usually I just see part of one.
So glad your uncle’s life was celebrated with a beautiful tribute so that you feel more at peace.
Thanks Aurora.
Glad it turned out even better than you expected.
Thanks hajusuuri.
Taps always makes me lose it, too. Glad that the celebration of life event turned out to be something positive and affirming for you. 🌈
Yeah, I was not the only one with tears during taps. Thanks Jalapeno.
I’m so glad madtowngirl.
Thanks Robin, me too.
I think I’m on CP today in ELdO You or Someone Like You, which I have in the travel bag. We’re getting into serious heat wave territory here, with temperatures near 40C. Right now I’m holed up in an air conditioned apartment in Meteora, until the worst of it passes and we go try to take some pre-sunset photos.
I’ve been hoping to try the Korres perfumes…or something, anything…in the duty free shops during our many airport sojourns on this trip, but the Santorini airport didn’t have the Korres perfumes (?!) and the Athens airport didn’t have duty free in the domestic terminal we were transferring in…sigh. I did pick up a bottle of Jil Sander No. 4 when I was in Germany; I’m sure it’s been reformulated 30 times, so it will be interesting to compare it to my little vintage sample at home.
How interesting, I thought Korres would be everywhere!
Ack, then I went to do the C-F conversion. That is truly a serious heat wave.
Je suis très française in Vol de Nuit edt this morning. Had a terribly interrupted night after a day of mental over-stimulation yesterday. My parents have sold their house and are getting ready to seriously downsize into an apartment in the “independent” section of a brand-new assisted living facility, and my mom is stressing about how to fit the essentials into the new place. I went over to pick up some stuff I’m taking off their hands, and also get her notes on measurements of furniture and the rooms in the apartment, and will be sitting down with some graph paper soon to try to convince us all that everything will be fine. Wish me luck!
On a fun note, we discovered a lock of my hair in a box of photos, snipped off when I was five, and it’s nearly the same color today (although lacking the “highlights” that greying is helpfully providing now that I’m in my sixties). Anyway, happy Wednesday!
I’m kind of in the position of your parents now, although my plans to downsize are going to take some time and I don’t need to rush on it,. They are lucky to have you to help! A good friend of mine is doing the same thing now and she has found a service here that is something like “movers that help seniors” and they actually have a computer program that enables them, with her input, to visualize various arrangements of her furniture and stuff in the new place.
And how cute about your lock of early hair!
I’ve experimented with a few space-planning apps but can’t find one I like, so old-school it is! I did go round up some photos on Houzz that I think will help with visualization, and I plan to bring all my furniture-moving sliders over there to be ready to rearrange stuff once it’s in there. I love rearranging furniture, but my back doesn’t. 😜
I think it’s a very good thing your parents are doing the downsizing now and not waiting until they are less able, I’m sure you’re a great help to them, wishing you strength, how wonderful to have found the lock of hair.
Yes, I’m very glad they’re doing this proactively, rather than being stubborn and forcing my brothers and me to take some kind of really unpleasant action at some point. I don’t know that I will be as cooperative when my time comes!
You are the hero for getting out the graph paper! My sister thought of that, and it was key to easing many difficulties when my parents moved.
I find it extremely helpful … plus it’s kinda fun, like playing with paper dolls. 😆
Ooooooooof. Best of luck with moving your parents into assisted living.
But glad to hear that they are being proactive about it, instead of waiting until it has to be done.
Yes! All of that. 🙄
My mom moved into a retirement place at the beginning of June, and is pretty settled now but it has been a LONG process! Wishing you peace, luck, fortitude, patience.
Thanks Robin — much appreciated!
I’m wearing Coty Vanilla Musk today, a drugstore classic that still smells pretty good.
It does still smell good!
Good to know that it still smells good!! I wore it decades ago as well as Cory’s Vanilla Fields. Both were cheap as chips at my local drugstore back in the day.
Very French today…. Tour de France on the TV. Showered using Blanc Lilas soap. Now to spray on Sous Le Toit de Paris.
Weather has been all over the place of late. Hot, then stormy, then cool. Today is in the cool side. Yesterday was glorious sun.
My bosses at my remote work sent me a thank you gift. A discovery set of Bohème scented candles from Lucky Scent as well as a gift certificate. So very kind! No idea what I’ll use the gift certificate on…I now have 2 to use. Am considering LADDM. Recommendations of favorites welcomed!! The surfing and investigation is half the fun.
Wow, what nice bosses!
That goes way past kind into amazing boss behavior!
I agree with the surfing and investigation.
Robin, you smell great!
I had the same idea today, which is to honor perfumer Olivier Pescheux, who created two of my favorite Diptyque perfumes: Eau des Sens and Tempo. I went with Tempo for my daytime perfume. I’ll probably wear Eau des Sens tonight as it’s one of my comfort, bedtime scents.
Hope everyone has a good day.
Hi Adanst 👋
I sprayed on another dose of Sens a bit ago, so perhaps we are twins by now 🙂
I used my $10 Amazon gift card on 2 books. Had to do some vacuuming since we had some fur tumbleweeds in the corners in many places. Trying to finish up 2 candles today to start others tomorrow. I am in vintage Shalimar edt today.
You smell glorious.
For some unknown reasons, fur tumbleweeds accumulate on the wooden steps in my house. Ugh!
I keep a Swiffer sweeper handy for fur tumbleweeds when I don’t feel like vacuuming.
SotD Iris Ukiyoé by Hermes
French points for brand and perfumer (Not for the name though… ).
I don’t wear it often, but its actually very pretty.
And its perfect for a crowded office space.
I dont think anyone will feel overwhelmed by it, even if they are sitting next to me in a meeting room 😂 its quiet,
Brand and perfumer is enough! Hope it was a good office day Jiji.
It’s been a Serge Lutens week for me so far. Reading yesterday’s comments this morning inspired me to wear A la Nuit today (thanks, lillyjo!), which is perfect because I’ve been smelling jasmine all around lately since it’s in bloom. It’s also one of my bottles that’s closest to being thunked. The first two days of the week I’ve worn decants from my “dwindling decants” shelf so I’ve got my own secondary theme going on so far. Monday I surprised myself by wearing Fille en Aiguilles (in July!) because it was cloudy and cool and because it’s evaporating and discountinued so I better wear it while I can. Yesterday was Bas de Soie.
I really enjoyed wearing it yesterday.
We’re always in sync re: neighborhood flower smelling. I had plucked a handful of jasmine right before I read your post🌸
I love that! Have you been enjoying the linden trees blooming these last couple weeks?
Alas, RIP, Perfumer Pescheux. He created so many great works for Diptyque and other houses…
Honouring him, I am in Yohji Homme (2013).
I have never smelled that one! Is it great?
Oh, it is lovely! The original Yohji Homme (1999) is much less accessible here, so I cannot contrast the two versions. Nevertheless, Pescheux’s version per se is a fantastic modern fougere.
The licorice balances well between the aromatic and the woody coffee. Despite the notes, the overall image is airy and modern (in contrast to the 80s fougere). And it is safely unisex. Even though the structure can be found in some other works, such as Maurice Roucel’s Rochas Man, the latter is more intense, more sugary, and less refined (probably due to the budget), and thus lacks this subtle airy feeling.
BTW. the tall cylindrical bottle is unique and is a pleasure to hold, which seemingly gets inherited by their current niche line.
Back in 2013, Olivier Pescheux helped recreate several Yohji classics for the brand revival. Alas, sadly they have all been discontinued.
Anyway. If you can find it, give it a try, Robin! You may like it ; )
Thank you so much for the detailed description!
In Vetiver Pour Elle on a warm but not hot day.
I envy you, it was hot here!
Feeling quite French today as I had a French pedicure and am wearing Dusita Splendiris.
Oh that is all perfect!
In Ninfeo Mio today but it wasn’t hot enough for it, I changed to MK Midnight Shimmer which feels very cosy on this fresh -21C- summer day. Prices for MS have shot up, I’m not sure why as it is very pleasant for summer nights but hardly a masterpiece, the bottle is very bling though, I think it’s a case of very limited edition. I’ll have my smoothie of strawberry and yogurt later as I found the yogurt was too cold.
Midnight Shimmer is really good. I should have bought it when it came out. I remember thinking that it had hints of Dior Addict. A few years ago it started getting hyped as a discontinued cheapie on YouTube. I believe that is when the price started to go up.
Thank you for the explanation Lillyjo, now that you mention it I see a resemblance, DA is heavier on the green florals but the vanilla is similar, a detail, the MS has darkened to the point that it might stain white fabric.
Ninfeo Mio shines in hot weather.
Yes, we’ve had cool temps so it wasn’t able to bloom the way I wanted.
CP compliant in Mugler Musc Mysterieux, from one of my FragranceNet PurplLux choices. It is a very pleasant, airy and transparent musk, yet with that Mugler tenacity. The nature of it is like Kenzo Flower, only with papery musk instead of powdery florals.
I posed one of the felines with that bottle! You smell great!!
I’ll check that out – thanks for letting me know. And, I will at least mull over a full bottle, but of course it’s quickly becoming a unicorn. Keep telling myself: 10ml *is* a full bottle…
It’s pretty potent so the 10 ml should last you a while
My mother loved it so she borrowed the bottle
My prediction is it comes back empty lol
I talked myself out of getting that one and the oud. I kept saying I don’t need another version of Alien. Of course now I am on the hunt for a good deal. Lol.
I think I have a sample of that around here somewhere…
Robin, hope you had a good, deep sleep last night. My internal clock is whacked so I was up until 3am and now just got up at 1030. 🙄
I’ve been keeping my bag of samples out and rifling through it to try to whittle down the volume. Today I’m in PdE Azemour Les Oranges. Dumped the entire vial down my front. Trés Francais, no? 😉
It’s a gorgeous day but I HAVE to empty and fill tanks and also hoping give Biggie Smols a good scrub. Then we will beach walk a bit. T-Rex is not eating with her usual enthusiasm and I’m a bit worried. She turned down her daily bite of banana, too. I bought some OTC Pepcid last month and that seemed to help. I may pick up some more today as I gallivant about.
Aw, hope that T-Rex is OK!
Hope T-rex is back to normal eating soon.
I slept great, sorry your timing is off! And of course sorry T Rex is not eating well.
LOVE dumping entire contents of vial down your front, très bien.
Kerosene Santalum Slivers this morning. So far it’s a nice mixed citrus opening, no sign of any woodiness yet. I caved at Prime Day and bought a food vacuum sealer, I’ve been wanting one for a while. I often have to separate meat and poultry purchases into portions, and zip-top bags weren’t doing a good job.
I caved, too! Dang those prime deals..🙃
I’ve been eyeing a beautiful turquoise ceramic coated cast iron Dutch oven on there that’s on a really good sale right now!
Also caved on an Amazon Prime deal. Nuts!
Hello All!
1) SOTD: Bagatelle de Gabrielle on top of Soul Providers body scrub . Very citrusy, herbally, tonka-y, musky, clean.
2) I finished my Cybersecurity Analyst course and have my certification in that- will take S+ and CCSP tests pretty soon!
3) The spring garden did VERY well, and due to a warm, dryish spring I am getting early tomatoes! I just cleared the beds and re-sowed for august/sept greens and peas. I think I should harvest my potatoes. My herbs are doing fantastic, as are the roses and most of the lavender!
Congrats on the test win and congrats on that green thumb you have! 🫛🌱
Thank you! I am looking forward to the midsummer season!
Congratulations on the certification, that’s great news! And now you can celebrate with roses & tomatoes 🙂
I am aligned with simplicity day as I opened my 4 oz bottle of Living Grace and doused myself in 20 sprays. For the first time today I see the resemblance to Gap Heaven which makes me happy. I might stick with it all summer as my work scent.
I honestly don’t think I’ve ever applied more than 2 sprays of anything, ever, and even 2 is more than my usual. I salute you!
I’m wearing Guerlain AA Pampelune with some BBW grapefruit lotion. So far it’s bright and refreshing.
Oh, wow- you smell delightful!
At least half my perfumes are French, so the biggest problem is working out which might be most French. Having exhausted my Chanels, I’ve decided Guerlain is next, so today is Encens Mythique d’Orient.
It is not such a bad problem to have 😉
That one’s a beauty.
I’m wearing Hermes Eau d’Orange Vert. It smells wonderfully juicy and fresh when it first goes on but has zero lasting power.
Same with Azemour les Oranges. Considering I dumped the entire contents of the sample vial, it’s been gone baby gone for a couple of hours already…No need for a FB with the minimal lasting power! 🙂
This week I’m going with perfumes that are from French houses and that also have French names here in the English-speaking world. Admittedly this is still a giant category. Yesterday was Heeley Verveine d’Eugene; today is Lancome Figues & Agrumes. Did outdoor chores this morning since it is supposed to get hot! hot! hot! by Friday.
Oh I like that way of doing the project! I guess I qualified today too.
Keeping it simple today with Korres Guava Body Butter. Figured I would change it up from the Bliss Lemon & Sage.
You kept it simple indeed!
Yep. I don’t have the bandwidth for complicated things right now.
Smelling simply great!
Thank you! So happy I have another tube of the body butter, and have just opened up a new bottle of the Guava shower gel.
SOTD = Guerlain Rosa Rossa Harvest Edition
I am WFH so 8 sprays was typical. I was fragrant for half the day. CP points!
I was saying yesterday that I need to stop being fearful of flying. Guess what??? My sister called me about a $1 deposit offer for cruises in 2023 and 2024 … and we booked one leaving on June 1 from Copenhagen to parts in Norway and Iceland. Unless I want to lose the deposit 🤣, I will need to overcome that fear! It’s almost a year away so I think I will be fine.
Good for you! You can do it! Positive self talk is the key. I do it every time I have to go over just about any bridge…🙃
Sounds like the Universe just gave you an answer to your fear of flying. 😉
Yay!
It’s worth it to see Iceland!!
What fun!
Continuing to mine the L’Artisan archives today with The pour un Été.
Beautiful!
Agreed. Closing in on the end; I will be sad when it runs out.
Today I wore Shalimar Souffle.
It’s pouring rain here, which is ok because we needed it and I got home before it started. Lol.
Sometimes, timing is everything!
Glad that you didn’t get soaked.
Poured rain here too! And really dropped the temp. It was 58 when I left work this afternoon. I might have turned my seat heater on.😬😂
You smell great, I prefer Souffle to Souffle Intense, especially in the summer weather.
