It's Tuesday and Free Slurpee from 7-Eleven day, plus World Population Day (that would be a little over 8 billion). Birthdays: James Abbott McNeill Whistler, EB White, Jhumpa Lahiri. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking points in L'Eau de L'Artisan. Tea at the moment is Upton Keemun Mao Feng organic, but I'm tired enough that I might have to switch to a latte soon.
Reminder: 7/14 is Bastille Day. See if you might possibly have anything French in your collection? Extra points for extra-French-ness, or for silly perfume Frenchification. (This is a repeat from 2017).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Touraine Double Filet Vert Teapot from Raynaud ("The Touraine collection features plates and pieces with a hand-painted trim of two thin bands, one in pale green and the other a deeper shade") is $370 at Grayson Living.
Wearing Yves Rocher Vanille Bourbon hand cream, so taking adjacent points. Not perfume but very fragrant. My hands must be seriously dry because it melted into my skin in under a minute.
I love body products that actually WORK. Like, not only do they smell good but also provide much needed moisturizing properties. Don’t forget to drink water, if your hands are dry-dehydration is murder on cuticles.
Ah! Thanks for the advise Carole.
Shalimar Tonka for the CP
Sipping a cortado at the beautiful cafe
https://www.reminyc.com/
Tanti Auguri Jhumpa!
that should be labelled not safe for work ! And cortado-yum 🙂 and you smell good, too 🙂
What a cute little shop.
Gorgeous flowers + coffee, what could be better?!
Feeling French in Jean Patou Heritage Chaldee. That teapot is lovely and I think a clever person could diy something similar on a thrifted white teapot.
Robin, I hope you can get some good rest, and soon.
I have Chaldee, and love it-you smell marvellous, too 🙂
Whenever I see Chaldea written it makes me think of Sheila Eggenberger writing about it on The Alembicated Genie.
I bought Chaldée unsniffed after reading that review. A very successful purchase!
ME TOO Gaynor.
Portia, somehow I never read that blog. Just read the Chaldee review. Thanks for introducing me to a new writer 🙂
Sadly Sheila doesn’t write anymore but her work in that blog was game changing for me. So inspiring.
Thank you ringthing! I am generally a pretty good sleeper and will catch up tonight 🙂
Chaldee is lovely stuff.
I am feeling quite French like in Chanel No 5 EDT.
Have a good day all 😊
The ultimate French perfume! I’m saving it for Friday.
There are so many French ones out there. I just picked this one up today after my shower.
You smell lovely🌸
Thank you my dear.
Very much getting points for the CP on no5
Yes, there are many Chanels that I have grown to love.
I’m in Neroli Portofino-body oil, cream, and fragrance. There’s something about matching body products that make me feel elegant. I am not elegant-I drove to work with my truck loaded with debris/branches/pruning from the yard. There are too many plants planted too close together, and if I don’t really hack at the undergrowth regularly it can look unfriendly quickly. SO I just use a pitchfork and toss it over a bank at work-we joke we’re reclaiming land lol.
Hope everyone has a beautifully non eventful day 🙂
My youngest , he loves Neroli Portofino. Not that he is into wearing perfume but more he loves to play the the magnet on my travel spray case.
I haven’t tried the body products. Tell me more ..
Love the body products! They’re true to the original fragrance, and help it last longer, and came in that fantastic shade of blue. The body oil is really nice-I use a La Roche unscented body was, and a drop of this, and it just smells deadly. Then the body cream which works-your skin will be soft and supple. Never tried the soap. Add a spritz of the fragrance and I get phenominal lasting power and lots of compliments 🙂
I love matching body products, but they are getting harder to find. It used to be that almost every mainstream fragrance had body lotion and shower gel, but not too much anymore. With the niche perfumes it seems almost non-existent to find matching products.
At best they trot out shower gel or lotion as part of a holiday gift set. Leaving money on the table, as the saying goes….
Raking in CP points with Nez 1+1 Ambre a Levres! Nez is a French publication and both the perfumer and artist collaborators are based in Paris.
Easy reach of a makeupy amber. Just sweet enough for a warm and humid day. Good stuff.
Oh, that’s perfect! I’ll have to find my bottle. French name, magazine, perfumer and artist. That sounds like quadruple point to me.
Yes! I think it might have been you that introduced it to me as well? I’m already halfway through my little bottle!
Happy Teapot Tuesday!
Loving the pictures from accross the country about the snowfall these past two days(not entirely normal for South Africa, except in some remote mountainous regions mostly!)
What would be the Frenchiest French perfume house? My guess is either Guerlain or Caron(Chanel?(more fashion),Hermès?(more leather goods than perfume right?)
I’m in the South African Wick Fragrances Fabulous Human.I won’t bore you guys again with how much I adore this one.Their packaging has changed/upgraded and I got some pretty cool 60% off deals on some faves in the defunct formats.
Lovely stuff, and spicy/warming enough for another serious winter’s day in July!
XO’s🌹✌🏻
Well this is odd and happens quite often recently!Supposed to be a new post!🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️✌🏻
60% off is amazing! And love the name Fabulous Human.
Also, there is something extra French about Caron, isn’t there? But I still vote for Guerlain.
Boucheron is très français, and Boucheron Pour Homme is très raffinè, very refined, a sophisticated chypre for men, yet another in my embarrassingly long list of “bought it the second I smelled it, didn’t even have to think twice” scents. But it’s so good!
Yes it is
My father wore Boucheron. Love it
I’ve been absent for a bit with a huge work project and then my annual camping trip. I’ve survived both and am glad to be back with you kind and fragrant people!
Today’s teapot is so subtle yet beautiful. Great choice, Robin.
I read this morning that Olivier Pescheux has passed, and he was only 57. How very sad!! He created some wonderful scents for Diptyque. I think I will wear his Eau Capitale today, or maybe Vetyverio since it will probably be warm.
Welcome back!
Oh my goodness, so he did.

Dior Thé Cachemire. The name of the scent is not very French, but it is a Dior, so I claim CP points.
I had my root canal treatment finished today. So far so good.
Do you have a temporary crown, then–for now, with a permanent one being made? I had that done on my upper left back molar, and need to get two done on the upper right. Sigh. I’m glad you’ve gotten through it so far!
No, not yet. For now, it is just a temporary filling. They should put temporary crowns next week. Yeah, all these dental procedures are not fun and expensive. And it is mostly molars too in my case (I think one is a premolar).
So glad that much is done!
After yesterday’s Nuda, I had a craving for Les Annees 25 BIS today. My Prime Day shopping will have to wait until after work and grocery shopping. Have a $10.00 gift card on my account and a couple books I am eyeing.
I have never bought anything special on Prime Day that I can remember…nothing in my wishlist is ever marked down! Maybe I am not shopping hard enough 😉
Sitting on my hands so far re: Prime Day shopping.
Sotd is Grey vetiver (edp)
I Had a meeting in office and its quite hot today. So I decided on something not too overwhelming.
The connection to cp would be the perfumer., Harry Fremont, who (according to Fragrantica) was born in Cannes. 🇫🇷
You smell wonderful.
Today I’m in Paris-Deauville, which I thought I was going to wear yesterday … but then the hand reached for Jour d’Hermes. It lasted amazingly, clear through to bedtime. I have no such hopes for Paris-Deauville. 🤣
Bonjour, ma soeur! I am a scent sibling in Paris-Venise.
Enchantée!
Weekend à Deauville by Patricia de Nicolaï who is one of my perfume heroes. It’s a great scent for a very hot day.
Ah, I should wear one of hers tomorrow.
I’m in AA Orange Soleia today for the hot weather.
I had a very late bedtime today, so tea is Taylor’s Scottish Breakfast plus Tazo Double Spice Chai. I’m done with my first mug and headed for some Tea Sip Apple Strudel oolong later, as a reward for working out. 💪🏻
Well, the late bedtime was last night of course. Maybe that oolong should come sooner rather than later. 😆
Ha! I am in the same boat so I knew just what you meant.
That sounds like how I felt all day yesterday… 😫🥱😴
Strawberries and yogurt smoothie
I sprayed vintage Aromatics Elixir this morning which of course is American but tonight it’s vintage Arpege to claim points.
Vintage Arpege! You smell lovely.
Thank you ringthing, I had forgotten how opulent it is.
Aromatics Elixir is great any time of the year, IMO.
Very diffusive in summer weather.
Robin, hope you get some deep restorative sleep tonight!
I’m beaucoup Francais today in Guerlain’s Shalimar MVP. I took two years of French in HS and all I remember is “j’un sais pas” which I figured was a safe response to anything. 🤷🏻♀️
Woke very late because I was exhausted so not sure what today holds as far as activity. We may just do a little beach walk and call it a day.
Smell well, Perfume Peeps!
I took 3 yrs of French in HS and moved to Texas a few years later. Spanish would have been a much better choice!
A beach walk sounds perfect for a tired day!
I took ONE year of French and remember nothing, and my pronunciation is atrocious. But at this point I can read most perfume French.
Closest I ever got to learning French was having a boyfriend in high school who took it. 😜 I took German instead.
In Guerlain AA Pamplelune for the CP and a hot day working outside.
Back to read comments later.
Happy Tuesday! 🥤
Happy Tuesday, pl67!
Thank you, Ringthing! 🌻
Definitely hot today, but not much in the “summer muggies” department.
It wasn’t bad today. I hope the humidity stays low tomorrow too.
Would be nice for sure!
Oh, Robin. I know. Sending you a hug and wishes for better sleep tonight. Me, I will probably be awake very late because today’s scent, Dirty Flower Factory, is LOUD ROSE. It’s not at all dirty to me (too bad) and I can pick up jasmine and orange blossom notes, but it is just so very rosy. I still have half the Kerosene sample pack to test so I probably won’t do anything French at all this week. I know I have to do them all now or I will never go back to sampling them.
I’m interviewing a cat sitter later and I hope Dirty Flower Factory calms down by then, I don’t want to scare her away.
Thank you foxbins!
LOUD ROSE should be its own fragrance family 😉
I’m wearing Sublime by Jean Patou today. Remember, you must pronounce it “su-bleem” and not like “sub-lime” as we Americans do. Back in the day I went through two bottles of this–I really loved it. What I have now is just a mini of no determinate vintage, so I can’t spray, but it smells pretty darned beautiful! Citrus and a broad mix of florals including one of my favorites, ylang ylang, and amber. Smells good enough that it’s got me looking for vintage bottles on various sites, but they’re awfully pricey. I always loved that pretty yellow melon-shaped bottle.
Oh, Sublime is a good one.
After Bois des Iles yesterday, I’m wearing my only other Chanel, 31 Rue Cambon.
I think now that I’m out of Joy, Bois des Iles is my most French smelling fragrance? Or maybe Jicky & Shalimar beat it, I don’t know.
I have been aswirl w/ hormones the past couple months…methinks perimenopause and have felt a bit anxious. World events on multiple levels have also not helped. 🙂 ehaeheh As an old co-worker who had been on Depo-Provera for about 15 years said when she stopped…”hormones? that sh&t is real…” 😉
A few years ago after my parents passed, I sampled just about everything under the sun from Solstice Scents which is a wonderful indie house that was a great distraction. Then, like a fickle lover 😉 , I veered away from things I bought during that time period.
I was busy yesterday and did not wear perfume but last night before bed I sprayed some Nightgown on (appropriately named 😉 ) and was blown away at good it smelled. Notes are Vanilla, White Chocolate, Tuberose & Tiare Flowers. I have the glace mist which is oil-based but it still smells great a couple years in…the oil has not gone off. So now I am exciting to revisit my SS stash from this time period though I must admit I do think I associate the line w/ some sadness and heavy feelings now. Today I am wearing Chiffon and trying to get my brain to forge new neural paths and associate this house with a new time period…albeit a hormonal time period. 😉
Glad you’re back posting!
Perimenopause is NOT a joke at all!
2nd that!
Best wishes She-ra, this too shall pass.
Robin, I hope you have an excellent night of sleep tonight.
I was motivated enough to get both human groceries and cat groceries today. The lack of humidity today was a bonus for me to get out of the house and enjoy while it lasted.
SOTD = commando again, except for the Bliss Lemon & Sage Body Butter.
Glad you were motivated! I skipped my Wegmans run this past weekend and I survived.
I probably could have procrastinated a little longer on the human groceries, but the cats would not understand at all if I ran out of kibble!
Thank you!
And wasn’t that lovely? It felt like July used to be when I moved here 25 years ago.
It was awesome. It reminded me that not all summer weather is yucky!
I wouldn’t be upset if there was a couple weeks of that.
The humidity here lessened too.
Whoo hoo!
Alas, the summer muggies are supposed to be back here by Thursday. Boo!
Hope you Can hold on to thé good weather, I don’t miss NYC’s summers at all.
SOTD = Les Eaux de Chanel Paris Edimbourg
French as French can be . I have a decant from a split in these here parts!
So yesterday, I took the really big step of not masking on NJ Transit (train) and even while walking through the gauntlet at NY Penn. Is COVID over? I don’t think so, but I have decided that it’s high time to live cautious and unencumbered. 🤞 Next step is to conquer my fear (COVID-related) of flying.
I had lunch in a restaurant last week without masking. It felt a little weird.
You are such a lover of travel. I hope you are able to conquer your fear.
Two of my friends are recovering from covid right now, it’s not over.
SOTD is LVEB Iris Absolu, as recommended by MossyBerry and Lillyjo. On the sweet side, but growing on me. Will be going back to Dillard’s for another spray in a couple of days.
Aha, so I wonder if I need to try it.
I think it’s worth a sniff, especially since distribution is getting a little wider so it’s not hard to locate.
Oh yay you tried it! It is sweet but could be great for cooler temperatures.
Sounds like this version of LVEB is worth seeking out.
A little Carnal Flower this morning and that’s all it takes, even on my perfume eating skin.
You should have seen the look on the French SA’s face when I said “Ma peau mange le parfum” 😬
LOL!
You smelled great today allo.
Ananas Fizz it is, from a truly ancient decant. The juice has held up remarkably well and it proved to be a perfect fit with this too hot weather.
Thanks to Robin for the inspiration!
Yay!! Even my bottle is ancient…they did not sell AF for long.
My sotd was A la nuit.
Ooooooooh, you smelled beautiful today!
Gorgeous!
Very late to chime in. My sotd was vintage Chanel No. 19 edt.
I kept checking the status of my parcel, no updates. Went to check the mail, and my parcel was there! Yay! It was too late to spray anything else on so I can sample my Guerlain AA Pampelune tomorrow. I sprayed a bit on a test strip; it was fresh and invigorating! Can’t wait to try it on skin.
So glad your package arrived!
