It's Monday and Piña Colada Day. Plus, Nikola Tesla Day and more birthdays: Marcel Proust, Mavis Staples, Arlo Guthrie, Alice Munro, Arthur Ashe. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm celebrating Piña Colada Day (and taking community project points) in L'Artisan Parfumeur Ananas Fizz.
Reminder: 7/14 is Bastille Day. See if you might possibly have anything French in your collection? Extra points for extra-French-ness, or for silly perfume Frenchification. (This is a repeat from 2017).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Wearing Chanel 1932 EdT for the CP. Sample thunked!
Happy Monday! 🌻
Happy Monday pl67!
Thank you, Robin!
Yay for a sample thunk!
Hopefully, I can thunk few Chanel samples this week that have less than 1ml left. I willl check my sample stash again.
Baguettes, check. French, check. I’m in SL Jeux de Peau, the bakery-est think I know of, plus oh so much sandalwood.
Oh, you win today probably!
Well, I’m off to a great start on the CP, wearing an American perfume because I forgot the theme 🤦♀️ So it’s En Voyage Go Ask Alice for a beautiful July day.
Yeah but “en voyage” is French, so that’s half points for sure.
Ditto
You guys are so smart, that went right past me.
NO, extra points! For silly perfume Frenchification.
I’m in Angeliques Sous la Pluie. I could actually use a bracing gin and tonic-feel a bit tired after all the work projects.
Hope everyone’s week is good – I remember Ananas fizz-I only had the body cream but I loved it!
And I always regret not having bought the cream!
I would join you in that g&t if I could. Cheers!
I am drinking tea and having a muffin. If it were a madeleine I would say this would be a Proust breakfast. Happy Birthday to him.
Starting the week off in Shalimar. Hajusuuri amount of sprays. Fits the CP for me.
Loved reading everyones reading poll over the weekend.
Smelling wonderful as always, I will definitely wear Shalimar this week.
Shalimar is smelling really good in this heat today. It’s blooming on my skin.
And I can only do 4 of mine … because of in-office day.
Sorry!
Robin-because of your photo I came home with 2 baguettes
Lucky you!! I would kill for a ham & butter on baguette right now.
I’m wearing Nicolai Week-end in Normandy. CP points for me.
Yes!
Histoires de Parfums 1828 Jules Verne. A French house and a scent dedicated to a Frenchman.
Double points for you!
Excellent!
Wow that alarm clock was RUDE! even if it is Alexa waking me to the sounds of whales.
4.5 pounds gone! took a bit over a month.
Chanel Paris Deauville post shower today.
I wore that one yesterday! It’s a good one. Congratulations on the weight loss, which sounds like a good pace for a month, slow and steady wins the race, right?
Congrats on your weight ! Tell me your secrets
Thank you! my secret is following Nutrisystem and logging everything on their app. Then one hour of working out a day.
It’s as if the portion control button in my head never worked.
Why eat one slice of pizza when the whole pie is there??
5-6 more pounds and I will be ready for Africa. Maybe a travel size bottle of Paris – Biarittz on the way home through Paris – mine is almost empty.
Hooray!
House twin and sibling? in Biarritz!
Congrats on your weight loss.
Congratulations on your weight loss, and sorry your whales were rude today.
Keep up the excellent work on your weight loss journey! Slow and steady is definitely the way to go.
Twins in the perfume.
Great on your weight loss!
Congratulations on your weight loss, that’s fantastic!
Is there a house more french than Chanel? No. 22 EDT to start my day <3
I have been very busy and tired but so grateful for perfume to provide a comforting space around me.
Guerlain is at least as French as Chanel, in my opinion. If not more!
You smell great!
Thanks!
You smell lovely. I would do a Chanel week but I did one not long ago.
I could easily join you on a Chanel week if you do one again!
Glad to hear that perfume provides a lovely respite from the Go-Go-Go of life.
It really is a lovely break in the moment <3
Perfume house twins!
Lovely!! I know you love your Chanels 🙂
Well, I finally swapped out my winter perfumes for my summer ones. No clue as to why I put it off for so long, since it’s always fun to meet my “old friends” when they come out of the box.
I’m in PdN L’Eau Mixte this morning for the CP. My 30ml bottle is half gone, so I’ll try and thunk it this season. It shouldn’t be too hard, but then again, I have lots of “friends”. 😊
I always start out thinking I will thunk this bottle soon and it never pans out. As I get closer and closer to the end I panic and think -oh it’s time to use something else before it’s all gone. lol
I get it. My fear is that they’ve reformulated it into oblivion, so maybe I should just hoard it.
You smell great, love l’EM.
Thanks Aurora! 🤗
Accidentally on point with the CP in Chanel Box of Eels. Still trying to catch up with the reading poll because I am way behind all the time in every aspect of life. 🫠
Four days off starting today and have no idea if I’ll go to the coast because it was a busy weekend and I’m pooped out. All I can think about right now is blessed sleep.
Hope y’all have a great start to the week!
I need to read the tail end of the reading poll too, and add more to my list.
The older I get, the more valuable a good night of sleep is.
Love Box of Eels. You are smelling mighty good!
I don’t have a lot of French perfume in the sample bottles I carry when I travel, so I’ll just be making do with what I have. I did just thunk a sample of Saturday, but I have another at home to put in the travel bag. Today I didn’t put anything on, because the plan was to get in the pool eventually.
That said, right now I’m sitting outside on a huge patio in the shade, with roosters crowing and yellow-footed gulls squawking as they ride the thermals, drinking a glass of wine and looking at the Santorini caldera. I lucked into finding a house (with a private pool!) on the south end of the island, where there are fewer people and it’s much quieter. We went up to Oia on the other end of the island today, and fled quickly after getting the requisite photos — it’s a beautiful town, and iconic with all the hotels built into the cliffs, but there are SO MANY people there, three or four thick on streets meant for two people across, tops. (And we were there midday; I hear it’s worse at sunset!) Maybe I’m not having the iconic experience, but I’m much happier down in my house near the end of the road with an equally good sunset view and a dedicated parking spot. It’s lovely here, and not a bad way to celebrate half a century of life.
Can you say JEALOUS?!? Who needs cp points when you have all that.
Have a great time!
That all sounds so amazing!🤩 Enjoy.
That’s the best birthday celebration I’ve heard about in a long time. Enjoy every minute!
It all sounds great, except for too many people.
its terrible when the cruise ships come into the caldera.
Despite all the people, I hope you enjoy the otherworldly light that shines over Santorini only.
I’d say that’s celebrating a big 5-0 in STYLE!
You, I think, are in heaven. Enjoy!
Haven’t gotten into the shower yet and still in no 5 edp. I have so much to choose from for the CP. Yesterday was a rough day. We are waiting for papers saying that the court approved my grandmother’s move from one memory care to another. While visiting, she was trying to get me to take her to her house and stay with her for a few days. That was a big fat no from me. My epilepsy doesn’t take well to lack of sleep after 1 night. Plus, I have to work and I would have to make arrangements for my dogs. Sunny hasn’t really matured enough and since she is a Lab, I have a year or two before she really matures. Thinking of wearing Nasomatto Nuda today after my shower.
I have a $10 gift card for Amazon and hoping for some awesome Kindle deals on books.
Sorry about your grandmother, that does sound rough. I hope the transition goes as smooth as possible for her!
Aw, hope your grandmother’s new place turns out to fantastic. I totally understand not taking her home.
I totally understand what you are going through with your grandma. I went through that with my mother and it is so hard.
I also get sleep deprivation with epilepsy. My stepdaughter has epilepsy and she really needs her sleep too.
Be sure to take care of yourself!
We are supposed to hit 90 today, so I’m in Chanel Paris Biarritz.
Woke up feeling just a little anxious today. Tomorrow is the celebration of life for my uncle. Hoping I can keep my @&$? together. My h and I are leaving after work today and driving most of the way there. We got a nice hotel in a cute little river city (think Bon Iver) and hoping we can at least enjoy a nice dinner and breakfast together before we head to the ceremony. Trying to add just a little spot of brightness to the dark. Wish me strength perfume friends!
💪
Thanks ltsg!
Sending hugs, peace and strength, Madtowngirl! 🌻
Thanks pl67! Sending the same back to you friend.☺️🌻
😊
Sending strength!
Thanks lillyjo!
Sending strength and fortitude.
Thanks Aurora!
Hoping for some positive memories, and your strength.
Thanks ringthing!
Sending hugs and a gentle back pat to you, mtg. Planning a little activity for comfort is a very healthy thing to do. 🤗
Thanks Nancyleandros, I love a hug with a gentle back pat.☺️
So sorry for your loss. When my dad passed the celebration of life was very meaningful. Being surrounded by people who loved him was so important – it brought him close in a significant way and while it was super sad it was also deeply loving and brought a sense of peace, even for a short time. I hope your family gets the same.
Thanks nebbe, you said that so well. My hope exactly.☺️
I hope you will not feel bad whether you hold it together or not. Your plans for a few nice meals together sound perfect.
Thanks Robin.☺️
Sending you thoughts of strength for what’s to come. However, if the tears come, let them. No shame in missing someone you loved dearly.
Will be thinking of you my friend. It sounds like you have a few nice things planned as well and hopefully that will help you get through this difficult time.
Hang in there, MTG!
I am also in Chanel-Paris Deauville today as we are supposed to hit around 90 degrees. I think this is extra Frenchy with Paris in the name.
You smell marvelous — I might copy your selection in a bit.
Thanks Sheri. I kind of like it when the weather is hot 🥵
If I had known about Pina Colada day, I would have worn a pineapple perfume. Still, I’m wearing some fruit even though it’s the candied delights of La traversée du Bosphore.
You smell great, TdB is lovely.
Same here. HdP 1804 is right on my dresser (in its box). Oh, well.
Early on I gave myself one spritz of Hindu Kush as we’re having a lovely, cool soft grey morning here and I needed a smidgen of warmth. Post shower I’ll switch to something French-ier — thinking of joining Kris in Paris-Deauville.
Paris-Deauville is as French as you can get, IMO.
I manage to fail the CP today but there’s plenty of time because I was drawn to perfumes I haven’t worn in a long time and they happen to be Italian, Romeo di Romeo Gigli – names of that house are all confusing, there’s also one Di Gigli… etc, and its green floral goodness, perfect for summer that one and it’s my own vintage bottle bought in the mid-nineties, I loved it so much (but I also acquired another partial big bottle a few years back), and American, tonight in Knowing.
Romeo Gigli must have learned at the same place as Narciso Rodrigues — who needs names?
Ah, yes, they don’t care how confusing it all is.
I totally forgot about the CP this morning, but as I’m working my way through the Kerosene line it probably doesn’t matter. Today’s scent in Canfield Cedar, and I’m anosmic to most of it. I get the tiniest thread of cedar and none of the other notes. I’ll wash it off in a little while and put on something else. Maybe something French!
What a shame about the Cedar.
Went to Macy’s, Sephora, a Chanel boutique, and Nordstrom with a couple of fragrance buddies yesterday. We had a blast smelling all the designer at Macy’s, the clean stuff at Sephora, and then helping ourselves to samples at Nordstrom. The location was prepping for Anniversary sale as well as undergoing a renovation, and it was a Sunday late afternoon, so the fragrance section was very empty and we were able to browse and make samples of whatever we liked.
I got a sample of the newer Miss Dior EdP, which does not have patchouli and instead has sandalwood, vanilla, tonka and benzoin in the base. It is nice, feels rounded and soft instead of sharp and spiky. I smell good. It smells especially good at an arms distance. I wouldn’t buy a full bottle, but I am going to try again in the fall and see how it is in cooler air.
I also got a sample of Mon Guerlain, which i didn’t like when it came out but this time I thought maybe it could work. Probably another one to try in the fall.
The final Nordstrom sample I chose was Aerin Amber Musk. It smelled good on me in the store, but by then I had maybe 7 or 8 scents on my arm so will be good to try on its own. I really enjoy Aerin’s Wild Geranium, so while I wrote off the line when it came out as “not my style” I am always happy to be proven wrong over time.
At the Chanel boutique, which is 99% makeup, fragrance and skincare, I bought a lipstick, got a sample of Boy (continuing the theme of ‘didn’t like it when it came out, turns out I like it now’) and also sprayed the Chanel Eau de Cologne which is gorgeous but did not last.
It was a very nice day that we topped off with some food at the Cheesecake Factory. I got an absolutely delicious cheeseburger and some cheesecake to go.
All around a perfect weekend day with friends!
Happy Monday all!
It sounds like a perfect day.
That sounds like so much fun. Glad you had some ho-hums turn into likes!
I have the Mon Guerlian body lotion which is nice
Which version of Mon Guerlain did you try? The EdP is quite different from the EdT. Much more vanilla in the EdP.
Sounds like a wonderful way to spend a Sunday!
I have found over the years my tastes changed and scents I used to turn my nose up at, I now love. It’s funny how that works. Maybe age? Not sure.
I’m another person starting the week in Chanel, Bois des Iles. The boutique in Melbourne didn’t have a smaller bottle when I visited 10 years ago, so I’ve got 200ml – I’ve still got a lot left!
Great scent!
Flurries of snow in my part of South Africa?Unheard of!The last time I saw snow in this county was the year 1981,and I was 5 years old, visiting an Aunt with my Grandmother.Wondrous affair, having to dig out my Grandfathers’ car, building a snowman…
Scent-of-the-coldest-winters-day-I experienced these past 10 years(or so)!
Mancera Tonka Cola.Warm and fuzzy amber and cola.Marvously cozy.
Had a wonderful hot bath, thermal socks on,and the electric blanket is on full blast.Hot cocoa just finished,it’s lights out for me now!
Have a good Monday all!
XO’s
Enjoy the snow! Our daughter’s partner has never seen it (we are hoping to get them to the States some December to, perhaps, fix that).
That’s a LONG stretch of no snow for you!
Wearing Parfums DelRae Mythique, from having a coupon at one of the resellers burning a hole in my wallet. Just arrived today!
An American brand with a French-ified name (although the box does say both San Francisco AND Paris…) so half a point?
Yes, it’s on my list for the next confession to Donatella!
Definitely! And I like that one.
Plus the perfumer is French!
Ooooooh, a Pina Colada sounds wonderful right now and would definitely hit the spot on a muggy Monday afternoon. 🍹
Had a horrible nightmare that jolted me wide awake at a ridiculously early hour this morning. I eventually fell back asleep, but it took a while. Thankful that it doesn’t happen very often.
SOTD = commando. Wasn’t feeling perfume earlier today. But I do have scented lotion on my shins, as per usual.
Oy about the horrible nightmare! Hopefully, tonight will be peaceful.
Thank you hajusuuri!
Wishing you sweet dreams or at least no dreams tonight.
Thanks lillyjo! No more late night snacks before bed for me. 🙀
Am now inspired dig out my venerable decant of Ananas Fizz, which will definitely suit this week’s weather.
I wasn’t playing but still get all kinds of accidental French Connection points for sporting vintage Paco Rabanne Metal.
It’s probably harder to avoid “French” for a whole week!
CP—compliant by chance in Chanel Cristalle Eau Verte, which pretty much disappeared on me today. At least I got a bit closer to thunking.
Heading to the airport hotel — our flight boards at 4:30 a.m. tomorrow. This is our trip to MN for FIL’s birthday. I won’t have much free time — it’s a short trip — but is there a perfume shop in the Twin Cities that I should try to visit? We are staying in St. Paul, on Snelling near the Whole Foods. If there’s something not too far from there perhaps I can manage it; we will have a car.
Whole Foods has a nice little Health and Beauty Aids section that carries Pacifica.
Have a safe trip!
SOTD = Guerlain Rose Barbare
Love this one although 4 spritzes was a little over the top for an in-office day.
I got an email yesterday from a colleague who thought she was impressing her boss. Blah blah blah email on a Sunday when she was going away on vacation — she said that while she’s away, she will patriotically log in in case her boss needed something. I scratched my head at that one and thought I may have misread it. I read it again this morning and indeed, she used patriotically WRONG. Oy vey!
This gave me a much needed laugh 🤣
You’re wearing one of my HG rose perfumes today. 🌹🌹🌹
Perhaps she thinks working during her vacation is the American Way. If so a depressing thought
I’m working late tonight and am a little grumpy.
I’m wearing TF Fleur de Chine. My decant is really close to thunking territory.
TF Fleur de Chine is pretty much “ungettable” now, isn’t it?
I see it every now and then but never at a price I would pay.
I’m a bit late to the party today (tonight). Had a day that was busy with a sheet rock repairman’s visit (booked for next week), my dentist (regular cleaning), and then a car problem that involved a lost key when I was in a store parking lot…. I actually lost it yesterday and went back today (by Uber) planning to have it towed, when miraculously it turned out they had found my key in the lingerie department (which I did visit yesterday). Yay! While I was hanging around there I tried on some sprays at Chanel of Coco Noir Eau de Toilette and Gabrielle, but neither one did much for me. (I was commando due to the dentist trip earlier). At least I’m on the CP!
I was so thrilled that I had saved money on the tow and on buying a car key replacement that I figured I could spend more $ and went out to eat a nice big late lunch with some wine. Then of course I had to come home and nap.
Doing all of these ordinary things is three times harder in the current heat.
It *was* a miracle someone found your key! Great news!
How wonderful that your key was found!
Thank goodness for honest people. 👍🏻
Great story with a happy ending!
I was waiting for my mail delivery as I was expecting 2 travel sprays of Guerlain AA Pampelune (enabler bauble to PL67)! Ended up finding a great deal at Shoppers Drug Mart and was able to use my points towards the purchase as well, so it was almost free. How could I not?
We must have a replacement summer delivery person because the update shows trying to verify address. I wore several sprays of non-cp compliant M Asam No. 1 fragrance today in anticipation of my Guerlain delivery. Hopefully tomorrow!
Fingers crossed, Gail!
Hope you get that package tomorrow. Please, let us know if you like the Pamplelune.
🤞!
Wot, you can get Pamplune on Shoopers online?? Oh my
Coco for the CP!
Hi allo! You smell fantastic!
