It's Tuesday and the 4th of July. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm planning a very lazy day, and have not even thought about fragrance yet. It's humid here and I might just wear some Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil lotion.
Reminder: 7/7 is World Chocolate Day, and shockingly enough, we've never done a chocolate project (I don't think, anyway). Wear a perfume with a chocolate note, with bonus credit if chocolate (or something related to chocolate) is in the name. If you don't have a perfume with a chocolate note, partial credit for wearing something with a note you like to eat with chocolate.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’d heard the British expression “as useful as a chocolate teapot” before, but I didn’t know someone had actually made one!
At Shoppers the other day and was surprised to find actual commercial samples for newish Gaultier scents, so I nabbed two, Scandal Pour Homme and Scandal Le Parfum, the latter of which I’m wearing today. On the one hand, there’s nothing about it to distinguish it from the hundreds of other sweet scents on the market: I genuinely doubt you’d be able to name it if you smelled it blind. On the other hand, it really is quite nice, mostly vanilla caramel with a floral undertone, pleasant and unobjectionable. I can’t see how it’s worth the price they’re asking, $126 for a 50-mL bottle, but I don’t hate it, which for me these days is something.

I love Minty Man! It is a herbal, spicy and very refreshing scent for summer. I find it similar to Guerlain AA Herba Fresca.

We are planning a very lazy day here too. We have both heat and air alerts and considering both my h and I worked yesterday and tomorrow, and there are no kids home, it kind of just feels like a random Tuesday off. When the kids were little the fourth was my favorite holiday. Lots of good memories of parades and fireworks.
I’m in JD singularity for a sample thunk. His annual freebie is just for 100 club members and because I am a cheap perfumista, I don’t qualify.😆 That’s okay, I’ve got plenty of perfume around here.

I think it is a permanent thing from what I can tell from the website. Once you purchase $100 worth of merchandise, then you qualify for the club. For some it may take a few years and for others a one time buy. It doesn’t matter.

Woke up, walked the pup, and opened up my homework. This is my only plan for the day, with some light knitting as a break.
I’m in Metallica today, a Guerlain from a weird time for the brand. I love the scent, a warm spicy floral but very pared down. I was lucky to find this bottle for almost nothing, and every time I look up the prices, my eyes pop out. Feels very indulgent to wear it.

Currently rifling through my bag of samples to see if I have Chocolate Greedy. I bought a 25 sample chest from Montalé last year, so I’m hoping I have a spray sample of it so I can give it some critical skin time. Either way, I will be wearing something big by Montalé and giving my hotel room a huge aromatic glow up!
No big plans for us other than lounging in the hotel A/C. Staying away from fireworks if possible because doggo is not a fan, plus everyone and his cousin is drinking today and I don’t want to be on the roads.
I do have some new beads I will be playing with today. A while back I bought a lighted magnification head lamp that is USB rechargeable so I’m hoping that will take the place of the huge (and powerful) magnification lamp I had back when I lived in a sticks and bricks. Every summer I like to buy a new inexpensive anklet and this year I thought I would make one using Tila beads, which are larger and have a low profile. I bought a boat load of colors and finishes so today hopefully will come up with a pattern that tickles my fancy.

People have been injuring themselves with fireworks over the last few days here.
Hope every one is having lovely holiday ! Scent of the day is the last of my Ageliques Sous La Pluie, which works well for a humid day. Got up at five to make it to yoga before work-totally worth it. We do it outside and overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. Feels like I can see forever from my mat. It’s Iyengar yoga and I’m really enjoying it. Hope collectively we can all take a few deep breaths today and enjoy them-not easy, sometimes, given the state of the world. I hope the forest fires have alleviated somewhat for our American friends-I think the Cdn fires have abated.

It’s been raining, much needed and temps are not much changed from the low to mid-twenties we’ve been having.
I was in Histoire d’Eau, very plummy and smooth leathery today, and tonight it’s Merchant of Venice Mystic Incense, it’s only six months or so that I’ve had this perfume and I now reach for it every time I want incense and I’m neglecting Etro MdM and AG Encens Flamboyant. It’s a shame but MI has a mysterious quality.
I’ll review the collection tomorrow for chocolate, I think I have 3 and one thunked last month, and all are favorites.
I bought Mystic Incense last year but it’s still buried in the boxes. Must remember to pull that out when it gets a bit cooler!

I do like this one. It’s definitely smoother and lighter than yesterday’s Vetiver Java, which was too much for me. This one starts off with ginger and rhubarb which works very well here.

One of my all time favorite poets, Wallace Stevens, was reputed to have had gotten into a knock down drag out brawl with Hemingway in a local bar somewhere on Key West back it their heydays. Hemingway apparently wiped the floor with my OG poet, but I don’t care. I’ve always rooted for the underdog. 😎

I sprayed some Guerlain LIDGE, since Fragrantica and Basenotes list cocoa in the pyramid. It does not smell like chocolate (it is mostly a patchouli scent to my nose), but cocoa may be there. Maybe. So I think partial credit.
Today I spent two hours at the dentist to have my root canals (re)done. And they booked me for another 2-hour session, since my canals are so narrow, and the original treatment was done about 20 years ago. I was told it was actually quite impressive that it had lasted so long. It all went quite well for me so far – no pain and minimal discomfort.
Oh, wow, I’m really glad and somewhat surprised that you had that done with no pain! Yikes! My experience of it was different…. That’s good you are progressing in your dental treatments.
Maybe you are referring to the original root canal treatment when you mention pain? My roots are being redone, which means the pulp in that tooth was removed a long time ago, so there should not be any pain now. Unless something was done wrong during the original treatment, but I would have felt it much earlier. There is no inflammation now, thankfully.
They are rechecking and redoing this canal filling because the CT image does not show it, so they need to open the canals, check and if possible refill them before putting a crown.
Fortunately for me, only one out of three dead teeth that are going to have crowns needs this root canal procedure.
(And sorry if it was TMI, everyone.)

Santal Majuscule has a cacao note (which I hadn’t detected ) and it’s a good fit for another cold, windy day. We have a lot of branches blown down, and the poor trees look a bit tattered. I hope everyone in the US has a happy 4th July. I had never heard of M F K Fisher until yesterday so today I intend to hunt out her books at the library. Any recommendations of where to start would be welcome.

Sampling Kerosene still, today is Triptych. It’s black pepper in the opening followed by geranium and citrus. I am really liking his scents, they aren’t predictable or mainstream. This one is beautifully blended but although I like geranium I don’t love it. If you do, check this one out.
It’s supposed to be 97F today so I walked early and I’m staying inside the rest of the day.
Early morning outside work, then stay inside-twin. We’re not as hot, but it’s very humid. I’m slowly coming to like black pepper, and I could see it working well with geranium, which is a favorite note.

I seem to have fewer perfumes with chocolate notes than I thought, but I do have white chocolate in my little bottle of Iris Ganache, so I’m saving that for Friday. Today is Sillage Royale from Manos Gerakinis. It has oud, but it doesn’t dominate in the way oud often does.

I’m swizzling the project a bit and claiming partial credit with a small dab of Blood Oranges. I’m a fan of chocolate in perfumes, but it’s a little too warm for the likes of Ummagumma right now. I smell juicy!

Dropped off all things from our ongoing cleanup at the recycling center – the outdated electronics, computer things and garage clutter (old paint, an old lamp and spent batteries). Somewhere along the way we got a carpet cleaner that was the size of a large upright vacuum. Probably used it once or twice, so I’m glad that’s now gone too! Slowly but surely it’s coming together.
Last week I had to remind myself to not purchase a bottle of shower and bath gel. It was an almond scent so it was difficult to leave in the store.

Stuff has piled up for a long time so it had to go! My hubby is more of a pack-rat than I am so I had to pick my battles..lol
I have a box of shower gels in my closet that I should use up before more come in. Mostly Lush and some Crabtree and Evelyn. I’ve watched a few videos by Hannah Louise Poston who encourages thoughtful consumerism. She did a year no-buy a few years ago; it was so enlightening. I don’t think I could do a full year but even small changes are good.
Gotcha. I used to be a one in one out kind of person. I never had more than 2 shower gels or shampoo at a time. Once the shut down and inflation happened, I started just buying backups whenever I saw something really cheap.
SL Vetiver Oriental for the CP. I always enjoy it, but I had to consult Fragrantica to confirm the presence of chocolate. Chocolate is such a complex taste/scent, and my nose can’t find it in perfume among other sweet or amber or resinous or spicey or “something” notes. I don’t have any scents with chocolate in the name. Thank you again to all who mentioned the supermoon. Mr. Mossy and I waited for moonrise last night and saw an entrancing orange ball. It took until around 10:30 for it to get above the trees but it was still fabulous. Add lighting bugs and some nearby homemade fireworks displays, and we had quite the lovely evening. It might look orange again tonight, too.
Vetiver Oiental is one of my all-time loves. I didn’t know that it had chocolate, either, and I was quite surprised when I saw a list of the notes.

I went and visited a friend this afternoon. Dropped off a few scented candles for her, since I would prefer not to move those. I can always get more of them later. Lucked out and had a second friend drop by while I was hanging out.
The drive home was a little eventful. There was an accident on the Interstate that I was NOT involved in, thank God. Emergency vehicles were still arriving by the time I came up on it. US highways now have electronic signs that can warn motorists about such things, and I spotted one earlier during my drive. I was able to move out of the affected lanes.
Also had some wild weather this afternoon which might have contributed to said traffic accident. At one point, the rain was falling so hard that the windshield wipes could not keep up. The skies have cleared up since.
SOTD = back in Bliss Lemon & Sage Body Butter. Perfect for the soupy, goopy weather.

Glad you were safe from the accident. My weather report called for sun today, but midday it started raining like crazy with a bunch of wind. Then it went right back to sunshine. Weird.
What you experienced sounds like a pop-up shower. My family used to joke about those back in Colorado.
Glad all went well regardless of events. I am so tied to a certain way of traveling that I may have just pulled over and waited things out.
I could still see the tail lights of the cars in front of me, and the lane markers. Not THE worst weather I have ever driven in.
