Thursday scent of the day 6/22

Posted by Robin on 22 June 2023 97 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday and happy World Rainforest Day! It's also Windrush Day and Onion Ring Day. Birthdays: Katherine Dunham, Bill Blass, Prunella Scales, Kris Kristofferson, Ed Bradley, Octavia E. Butler, Todd Rundgren, Meryl Streep, Freddie Prinze. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Diptyque L'Ombre dans L'Eau, because Tea Thyme mentioned Eau Rose yesterday. I am not letting this one go.

Reminder: 6/23 is National Let It Go Day. Wear a perfume that works in the way the day is intended...that is, that helps you let go of negative feelings from the past. OR, wear a perfume you've been hoarding, OR, thunk (use up) a bottle or sample, OR, come up with some other creative take on the theme of letting go.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Morning!

    Robin, you smell great 🙂

It’s the first day of summer, and it’s beautiful. I’m in Cologne Bigarade, which I love, because my younger brother loves this and wears it. I love it when people around me are wearing scent: it is a shared pleasure, for sure.

Hope everyone has a good day 🙂

Hot sunny day here, I’m wearing Lys du Désert by Andy Tauer, a scent he composed for the 10th anniversary of Luckyscent. It has a lovely floral incensey smell.

The nail trim went about as expected, lots of howling and thrashing, but we got the job done. She spent the evening sleeping off her tranquilizers. I’m going to consult with a dog trainer to see if we can smehow improve the process to make it less of an ordeal.

I think I will go with CdG Black today. nice and incensey – since unlike cazaubon, I did not snap up the Andy Tauer for Luckyscent. Guess I have to let that go!

Was feeling particularly green yesterday and today is more of the same, so I’m wearing the fluorescently verdant Mugler Aura.

You smell wonderful! I’m still wondering if L’Oreal will DC this one. As an “average Jane” in the world of perfume, my experience with Aura is: to know it is to love it, but it takes a little time to get to know. If anyone is on the fence, I say nab a bottle or hefty decant and thank me later. 😀

Happy Birthday to Bill Blass-I say his name at least once a week since a room at NYPL is named after him.

Having another Tom Ford morning. Rose di Almalfi and body heat eye quad.

Avocado Toast , 2 double cappuccinos. I had a very hard time getting up this morning. The overcast weather is not helping.

LJ-I really love them. I am embarrassed to say I own a few-if not many..several..too many ! haha
I like them because they last all day on the lid and you can use them wet or dry. The darker shades I wet the tip of a fine brush and use it as eyeliner. I have sensitive eyes and they haven’t given me any problems.

ELdO Fils de Dieu for the hit of lime. I do love lime. I have a bottle of this, but generally use the vial and apply it rollerball style in a fairly small quantity. I love what it does when applied this way; for me, the spray is a bit too much. So that’s the start of my fragrance today, and we’ll see where it goes from there. Gotta say, the mentions of greens above sound intriguing.

The weather is beautiful, and the forecasted high is 83, which sounds lovely. I’m hoping it tops out at 83 and doesn’t overachieve.

In Calyx again. I’m glad to hear so many others have strong connections to this one. Yesterday, no sneezes and no headache, but I did not enjoy it. Changed to Paris-Deauville post -shower. (I suppose my “let it go” connection for P-D is the fantasy that I will some day be the type of person who holidays in Deauville).

Today I am not actively disliking Calyx. The frustration is that upon opening the box and then the bottle, and the first whiff upon spraying, are delightful. And then it quickly becomes too much. But then I wonder if perhaps, because to me Calyx is so different from anything else I own, the “problem” is simply a lack of familiarity.

Wearing Epic today after yesterday’s Gris Charnel. The downside of not sleeping well is the retail therapy. SOTD = Parfums de Marly Oriana

Sample thunked. I kept it thinking it could be a reference. For what? My opinion: it is an expensive inferior dupe of Love, by Kilian, don’t be shy Extreme which to me is far far better. For those who love Oriana, please continue to love it.

I ventured out to Whole Foods yesterday to pick up 3 packages. I got an email late yesterday from one of the sellers saying there’s a problem with my order. I haven’t yet opened the package but here’s dilemma – if I got a more expensive model than what I ordered, do I keep it or pay the difference? Half of me wants to just keep it but the other half of me wants to own up. I will check later.

For the CP, my sample of Fraaagola Saalaaata (3, 1, 2, 3 1), which many brief dabs have long made me think I need to get a full bottle. But a real, serious all day test like today, where I poured it into a spray and did both dab and spray tests, makes me realize I can let it go. I’ll “tink” the sample this evening when we do our Thursday walk to the neighborhood Mexican place.

I’m letting go today by wearing another decant of a discontinued/rare perfume. I’m in Guerlain Vetiver Pour Elle, and I seem to have less than a ml left so probably one or two more wearing since I only use 1 or 2 sprays at a time. I should retry their regular Vetiver to see if that’s a good substitute because it’s been a long time since I’ve smelled it.

Yesterday I did a sample thunk and discreetly wore perfume to my scent-free office. There were only a few drops left in the sample vial and they mostly went down my shirt and faded quickly. Oh, it was Le Couvent des Minimes Eau Aimable, which was a little freebie sample included in a swap.

It was the right day to go to the office apparently because we had a coffee cart in the lobby offering free coffee and pastries for Tenant Appreciation Day. (My company owns the building, and there are probably about 5-10 businesses that lease office space.) I got an iced pistachio latte that tasted better to me than a pistachio latte from Starbucks and I brought home a double lemon muffin that I haven’t eaten yet. Thankfully, it’s sealed in plastic so should keep while I find the right time to eat it

I found it very different from the original Vetiver. I bought the duty-free version when it first came out, and that was a typical guerlinade-based floral. IMO, not worth the hype.

Robin, you smell great. So do I, in ELdO Jasmin et Cigarettes, which smells to me like eating fresh, juicy summer fruit in my jasmine-lined backyard while a neighbor’s cigarette smoke distantly filters in. One of very few jasmine perfumes I like, probably because it doesn’t have much of that harsh indole note.

That reminds me, yesterday I worked with a chemical that reminded me of the Jour d’Hermès extrait de parfum. I wonder if that’s just my imagination; a couple months ago, I swore my chemical smelled like truffles, but then I looked up the scent chemical profile of truffles, and my chemical was nowhere to be found on the list.

Jasmin et Cigarette had a distinct tobacco leaf note and thankfully NOT cigarettes for me, since I passionately despise the smell of them. Been a while since I pulled out my sample of it.

That’s a nice one, although I like indolic jasmines too!

I’m wearing Amouage Homage attar, from a sample vial that’s at least 11 years old. There’s still a bit left, I’ve been hoarding it but I don’t need to as I have a full unopened bottle. Maybe I can use it up this week.

Oh, and that will be fun to open the new bottle!

ZOMG, so very tired. Had a terrible night of sleep last night. But today was the final day that the painters were here. It’s nice that the painting is all done, and the furniture is back in the usual spots. They were a nice bunch.

I will be cleaning various odd spots for a while. While the painters did take precautions, painting is a messy task. Especially if spackling and sanding is part of the wall/ceiling prep.

SOTD = fatigue. Too tired to put anything on this morning, and too busy later on. Now I’m back to being too tired.

LOL, glad it’s all over except for a few spot clean-ups!

There is still a lot of stuff scattered all over the house. It’s going to take a while before things are settled down. Can’t hang a few things, since the paint ought to dry for 24 hours and it was being rolled out earlier this afternoon.

I was sleeping in the guest bedroom, since the master bedroom was not finished. That might have been part of it.

It seems that I spoke too soon about the painters being done. After we signed off on the paperwork and everyone left yesterday, we found a few small things that weren’t right.

So someone is coming back tomorrow to take care of those things. It speaks well for the company.

SOTD is lemon/honey/menthol cough drops. Yep, starting a new trend over here because I’m a mover and a shaker. Not!

You all smell lovely so I will again live vicariously through NST peeps. I’m getting endlessly entertained by doggo and her new toy. I had to stop to pick up a bag of kibble (the cost of which makes me cringe!) and impulsively bought a new toy for T-Rex. It seems to be BIG hit and I love seeing her so happy! 🥰🐕

I sort of don’t get the toy, but I do see how happy T-Rex is!

Sorry you’re still on the cough drops.
