Tuesday scent of the day 6/20

Posted by Robin on 20 June 2023 166 Comments

It's Tuesday and and the last full day of spring, plus World Refugee Day and Ice Cream Soda Day. Happy 81st to Brian Wilson! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm indecisive this morning, and I'm going to pick something from what you all are wearing. Tea at the moment is Kusmi Anastasia.

Reminder: 6/23 is National Let It Go Day. Wear a perfume that works in the way the day is intended...that is, that helps you let go of negative feelings from the past. OR, wear a perfume you've been hoarding, OR, thunk (use up) a bottle or sample, OR, come up with some other creative take on the theme of letting go.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Aquazzura Secret Garden Tea & Coffee Pot ("Aquazzura's Secret Garden collection is inspired by the whimsical world of chinoiserie reinterpreting these 18th-century designs and layering them, print-on-print, for maximal visual impact referencing birds, butterflies, and rich florals. The Secret Garden tea and coffee pot is made of high-quality porcelain adorned with a garden motif and finished with gleaming gold details") is $410 at Saks Fifth Avenue.

    Another pretty teapot!
I’m no help to you, Robin, as I’m commando at the moment for a doctor’s appointment that I am looking forward to! Going in for my biannual earwax removal as I have all my life. Apparently the only skinny part of my anatomy are my ear canals and they plug up to the point that I not only can’t hear but have roaring tinnitus. The relief at getting it taken care of is wonderful, how often do you go to the doctor and get instant relief? I’ll be wearing Diptique Tempo this afternoon.

Yeesh. I have skinny ear canals too, which resulted in three ear infections and one surgery before the age of five. It also means I have a lot of trouble with airplanes, skydiving, and, more dramatically, scuba diving. (I still do them, though; I just have a lot of pain afterwards.) But I don’t get my earwax professionally removed; sounds like your case is much more serious than mine! I’m so glad you feel instant relief after the appointments 🙂

ANOTHER cool, dreary day! Summer starts tomorrow and if the last few months are any indication (no reason they should be, I guess), we are in for a sunless summer.

But I’m wearing the bright, sunshiny Eau de Courrèges, my favourite citrus cologne ever: a genuinely exhilarating top, with hidden depths and a soft chypre base. It always puts me in a cheerful mood. In the seventies, even a mere cologne could be a work of art.

I am far, far south of you and summer is slow to arrive here as well. In my case it’s a bit of a relief, but it’d be nice for it to at least be hot enough for a trip to the (unheated) pool. I scanned a headline a couple of months ago that said “expect cooler temps this summer.” I didn’t read it but wondered what “cooler” meant. I’m now learning 😉

Agree!! The simple perfumes, even drugstore bought, from the 70s and even 80s were highly affordable works of art.

    Good Morning!

I went and “thunked” a bottle yesterday, an old Gap fragrance that I have had for years. I think the upcoming community project inspired me to finally do away with it; it was only not even a quarter full, after all. I had already thunked a, decant, I think? a while ago and plan on using up another Victoria’s Secret FB that is not at all full some point soon.

I kinda like this ‘letting go’ thing; I have been looking around the basement after the water heater fiasco and finding stuff that I can bring to the GoodWill. I don’t need this stuff anymore, so why do I still have it? *shrugs*

    Have a great week!

Love a good thunk! My friend was just mentioning to me that Gap had reissued some of the classic Gap scents including her highschool scent, Om. We’re very curious to go try them.

I still have 5 different ones left from the original issuing.

        Never heard of Om.

I bought all these AGES ago, and I still have them, blimey! But they still smell nice.

I finished a sample of Vetiverissimo, so I’m taking CP points. I found that I had fewer almost finished samples than I thought, but I found enough for the rest of the week. I may make this an ongoing project, to finish samples, decants, and minis.

That’s a great way to tip one’s toe into the “letting go” mindset. I’m seriously thinking of following your example. I have a bunch of samples in little trays, and honestly, and there are some I’ve been looking at for years, sheesh. Why? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Wow, what a great set! Love the colors and the birds.

We had a long air alert (4 hours) and several warnings last night, but nothing reached our town. Not a sound from outside.

I keep finishing decants. Today I could not choose between Prada infusion d’Iris and Molinard Muguet, and then suddenly my hand reached for Odori Spigo. Thunk! It was a pretty lavender.

      • Glannys says:
        20 June 2023 at 5:09 pm

I meant the period of time between the point when they announce air alert (meaning there is a potential danger – missiles, drones etc. – and everyone should take cover) and the point when they give us the “all clear” signal. I’d say average air alert time is between 40 minutes and 2 hours, but last night (or should say early in the morning?) the alert signal was given at around 2 a.m. and all clear at around 6 a.m. So it was longer than average.

    Hello all!

Woke up to my test grade from Friday being released. Got a B but I was the highest in the class. For how quick I’m going with both classes, I’ll take it. I was tearing out my hair with the online homework which makes me think I know it better than I expected.

I’m in the thinnest veil of Coromandel EdP (6 sprays). I have a feeling you won’t be copying this one, Robin!

    Have a great day everyone!

zomg @ “thinnest veil” (!) I used to apply similarly, but now 1 shared spray (of just about anything) will almost always do the trick. I moved from a dry to humid climate, which I suppose explains the difference. It’s a matter of how much my skin projects, not some kind of olfactory issue afaict.

      Enjoy your glorious Coromandel!

In the spirit of letting go, I used up a decant of Elie Saab’s Le Parfum Essentiel. It was too small an amount to pass on the decant to someone else, and I like it just enough that it wasn’t dump-worthy. So, thunk-worthy, I lavished on myself the dregs this morning.

Hello fragrant friends, I am in Tauer LADDM because we are going through a pleasantly cool week here in the Bay Area. I am grumpy about work because I am having computer issues but our IT appears to have disappeared. LADDM is helping assuage my grumpitude, thereby rendering it semi-CP-compliant.

Missed the weekend poll but will belatedly chime in that Chanel No 5 soap is my best 2023 discovery. It smells gorgeous – creamy aldehydes and roses – but not at all like No 5. It makes me want a perfume that smells like it, and a soap that actually smells like No 5 lol.

And speaking of, No 5 is my SOTD, and easily my most worn fragrance of the year. I’m wearing a new-ish EdT from a cute little spray bottle I bought for the summer season. For a while I couldn’t (or at least thought I couldn’t) wear vintage No 5 because the animalic notes were too overpowering, but that phase has passed so I’ve been wearing many iterations, both vintage and not, for the past many months.

I also noticed, when shopping for the soap, that Chanel has the Exclusifs suitcase of minis back. I’ve only smelled a few of the EdPs and it’s awfully tempting. Since I make so few perfume purchases these days, it’s much easier to justify a major splurge like that. But since I’ve made splurges in other shopping categories… not so easy to drop the cash.

I did buy a bottle of Fidji this morning, though. I’d never smelled it until very recently. Fun! And perfumemath free 😉

Hope this finds all of you well —

I almost talked myself into a $50+ cake of vintage 19 soap… After a long series of really disappointing soap purchases I decided splurging on my pricey faves is just fine (I also like to pretend they’re all birthday gifts from me to me.) Thus far the other qualifier is the Tauer Gardenia soap, which is also gorgeous. And the Oriza Legrand Violet bar, which is currently scenting my bed linens.

        NIce gift to your cousin!

I am wearing Kai for “letting go” today. I have the perfume and the body cream and though I like it, I am a little tired of it and thinking about letting it go. Of course, about when I say that I will change my mind. Better keep it for a while just in case. LOL

    On the road again….

Left the UP, tearing across Wisconsin, almost to Minnesota, hoping to sleep in South Dakota tonight. I have several scents in the trailer, but the only one in my purse this morning was Snowy Owl, via a lovely split!

The little trailer is great! The smoke in the air, not so great. Wearing a mask all the time helps with that. Masks are great! Who knew? Hope everyone is having a pleasant, or at least educational, day!

After an earlier ‘I just sprayed this thing, where is it?’ event on my arm, I have applied copious amounts of lotion and am trying again with Perris Monte Carlo Mandarino di Sicilia. I just sprayed it, so it’s too early to evaluate how long it will last. OJ Frangipani on the other arm, which probably would have benefited from the same generous lotion preparation. There’s always tomorrow to mend my slacker ways.

I’m waiting on a packet of samples in the mail, which is always a dangerous thing to hang your attention on. It might show up, it might not: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Turns out, I just finished the above vote of diminished trust in the post office when I heard the mail drop. The packet came! YAY!

I got a sample set awhile back that included several Perris de Monte Carlo scents and really loved one of them, but now cannot remember which one. I”m so frustrated! It was either Mandarino di Sicilia or or Arancia di Sicilia, and I truly wish I could remember which, because I really want to buy some! Maybe I should order new samples?

If it helps, Mandarino is a citrus situation, and Arancia involves some orange what I perceive as a HUGE pour of coffee

    Mancera Tonka Cola.Delicious.
“champagne” was the clear winner for the color of my walls,I did testers on a couple of walls in both natural and lamplights. The “dove” one is really pretty but way too dark with too much of a blue undertone.Champagne has the slightest of peachy/apricot tones on a light greyscale and I love it.

Great CP! I’m wearing Lanvin My Sin from a long-ago decant I got through STC. I have probably 2 more sprays, then thunk. I didn’t want to overapply at first, since it can be a musk bomb. The weather is cool and rainy again, so the scent isn’t overwhelming (at least to me).

Not on the CP today because I met up with nancyleandros for lunch at the Houston Galleria today and we did SO MUCH SNIFFING! My nose is broken! and every square inch of available skin space is wafting something or other! Plus, now I have lemmings to GET rather than plans to LET GO.

Some winners from today (I did not buy anything but one day soon hope to):

Parfums de Marly Safanad. I seem to lean these days toward sweet-ish florals with a nice tart counter element, which here is orange. Quite rich and luscious.

Nishane: Ani and B612. My nose was too taxed to decide.

MFK: The new citrusy one in the strange (but appealing) turquoise plastic bottle is WONDERFUL. I thought it would be kind of dull and bland but it has an absolutely juicy fresh bergamot note that I love, and it seems to stay that way.

Tiziana Terenzi Draco: The list of notes makes it sound like a mess (all kinds of florals, fruits, tonka, heliotrope, etc.), but it’s gorgeous! However, the SA for this line at Neiman’s was very pushy and they are very expensive, in part because of heavy jewelry embellishments–which I just don’t need.

By Kilian Woman in Gold: This is the one most likely to come home to me before too long. I’m really behind on the BK offerings. I just sort of lost interest at some point in the past. However this is GORGEOUS. Another example of florals, citrus, patchouli, but somehow so beautifully blended.

Amouage: Lineage, a brand new one in a pale turquoise bottle, 2023. Ginger, patchouli, and myrrh are the main notes and it’s a gorgeous, unusual (to me) blend, where the ginger isn’t too pungent. I loved this one.
We also smelled several of the Amouage Opus scents and both loved Rose Incense, which is Opus #12. Another pricey one! Other lines have this combination of notes but this version seemed more delicate to me.
And we sniffed several of the Amouage attars. Wow they are so potent! The one with rose in it made Nancy’s eyes roll back in her head (lol). Nancy liked one but every time I sniffed her arm I had to confess that all I could smell was CAT PEEEEEE! EEEEE! I hope she’ll forgive me. 😉

Fortunately, the a/c in the Galleria was working just fine, which is more than I can say for mine at home. This heat wave is so intense. I’ve managed to get an appointment for a repairman to come tomorrow and will make do for now with fans (I have two units and one is still working, thank goodness).

Does the new MFK wear longer on you? I like it a lot, but it doesn’t last long enough on my skin.
You were such a good sport about the expensive cat pee! I’ll keep that one away from you, and you keep the tuberose monstrosities away from me. It’s all good. 👍🏻

SOTD = 4160 Tuesdays Waft from the Loft Parfum

Pretty much whenever I wear a parfum, my tendency is to hold back but no more!

I am convinced someone at work has a hearing problem. Whenever she’s in the office and we overlap at least twice a week, there’s always some kind of commotion and it really stems from her being LOUD. It doesn’t matter what the topic is, she just needs to let the whole world know something’s up. Grrrr 😖

Day 2 of painting crazy. It’s looking like the painters will be here until at least Thursday. They are welcome to take all the time they need to get it done right. It doesn’t help that I inadvertently touched some wet paint earlier this afternoon. I fessed up immediately and apologized. They were nice about it.

SOTD = more drying paint and sweat. The painters had several windows open this afternoon, so the A/C was off until after they had left. It’s still a little muggy in here… 🥵🥵
