It's Hump Day plus National Bourbon Day, Flag Day and World Blood Donor Day. Birthdays: Harriet Beecher Stowe, Alois Alzheimer, Jerzy Kosiński, Laurie Colwin, Boy George. RIP Cormac McCarthy. What fragrance are you wearing?
No points for me today, in Diptyque Eau des Sens.
Reminder: on 6/16 we're doing Close to Home...wear a perfume that comes from a local maker, or has your location in its name or backstory, or maybe uses a ingredient/ plant that is native to your area, or interpret this howsoever you like. Suggested by Kanuka.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am wearing Voskanian Pêche Chypree, he is a perfumer from Armenia. His fragrances are based on childhood memories . I got this one during my last visit and it smells like ripe peaches of my country and reminds me of this trip.
That sounds delightful.
Sounds gorgeous. Like really ripe peaches?
SOTD Rose Prick
rose ceremony for my kids at school today
Schools out for summah
School’s out forevah!
🙂
😂😂
No more teachers, no more books!
Though the second sentence definitely does not apply to you!
A quick check-in, since I need to prepare for the first online meeting with my Swedish mentor. I am nervous.
Had a peaceful night and day so far, went to Kyiv to have a CT scan for my teeth.
Taking CP points in AdP Blu Mediterraneo – Cipresso di Toscana (blue) and Goutal Le Chevrefeuille (yellow).
Good luck with your meeting, Glannys! I have a feeling things will go swimmingly for you. 😊
Good luck, Glannys! 🍀
Best of luck, Glannys!
Good luck!
I hope all goes well!
I hope your nerves calm and it’s a great meeting😊
I hope your meeting went well! I’ve been loving your creative approach to the CP, by the way!
Best of luck today.
You’ll knock their socks off!! 😀
🍀🍀🍀!
Hope that your meeting was a good one!
Not a perfume post, just wanted to share my adventure in water-heater malfunction last night. I went looking for the cat and ventured into the basement, and there, lo and behold, he was investigating a nice decent sized puddle of water from our ten year old water heater, which must’ve just had it. We called my brother and another family friend to bail out, and I ran over to my workplace to borrow the water vac (because every restaurant should have one of those). I don’t know what we would’ve done w/o that thing. We just got the new heater replaced about a half hour ago. Once the mess got cleaned up the damage was quite minimal. Fun times to be had by all!! 😉
Also, our peonies were in bloom for a while; their scent was beautiful while they lasted.
Eek! So glad you had easy access to a water vac, and a quick replacement.
Thanks! Our rug is gonna have to go, tho.
Ugh, so sorry, but you got that taken care of so quickly so good for you!
Thanks, that water vac really saved our sanities.
I picture the cat, glad for you the water heater has been replaced already.
I had no idea where he was, and he was downstairs sniffing at the water the whole time it was happening. The least he could’ve done was given me a heads up, lol!
Wow, good thing you were able to get hold of a Shop Vac to clean up that mess!
How’s the cat doing after all the excitement?
Poor lil dude was a bit confused by all the goings-on, but now he’s scared of the shop vac – even when it’s not running – and our dehumidifier, which isn’t noisy, but Buddy thinks otherwise. I hope he gets over it, because his litterbox is downstairs. 0/
If he is intrepid enough to examine a leaking hot water heater, I’ll bet he is rugged enough to do his business near a running dehumidifier.
Good thing you caught the situation early!
How lucky you caught it so early.
Right now I am in the dry down of no 5. I go to work 2 hours later than normal but get off work at the same time. That allows me to get a couple more things done. I will be wearing Tobacco Vanille after my shower.
Yay for getting more things done! I am so swamped these past few weeks I’ve been having that daydream about discovering more hours in the day.
Sampling Kale from DSH to go to a farmer’s market this morning. We missed our usual one this weekend since I was taking a workshop. Three CO perfume companies in 3 days. Wonder if my other samples will arrive before Friday so that I can have a different local company each day
Enjoy the farmer market, and hope that package arrives soon!
Farmer’s market was small and diasappointing–it will be a few weeks still before Palisade peaches arrive
Sorry! Hope the peaches will be worth the wait — we should be getting our local peaches around the same time.
Palisade Peaches are so worth the wait! My brother is looking forward to them and local strawberries at his farmers markets.
I’m in Shay & Blue Blood Oranges for the second time in a week or so. Discovered this one through a swap with a wonderful NSTer which led to a FB purchase last year. I’ll thunk this travel spray sometime soon.
“You are never alone in the kitchen. You are joined by generations past. “ – – Laurie Colwin
I love this quote. It’s on a sticky note on my fridge, and someday I’ll find someone on Etsy to make a fridge magnet with this quote. Some of the utensils and equipment I cook/bake with are from my mom’s and my grandmother’s kitchens, and I think of them every day. ❤️
I hope y’all have a lovely Wednesday! 🤗
I love that quote! It really touched my heart. 🩷
You can do the fridge magnet (and really, just about anything else) yourself using Zazzle, etc.
I love Laurie Colwin. Her book Home Cooking especially has stayed with me (and I think it was the first one I read). That might be the source of the quote but I am not sure, she wrote about food quite a bit.
That would be my guess too, Robin. Her writing was so thoughtful and understated.
What a lovely quote. It brings up many memories and feelings.
I loved reading Laurie Collin, and that quote is great! I have my grandmother’s old feemster (real carbon blade!). It gets more use than many gadgets in my kitchen.
Ann, I have never heard of a feemster, and now I want one! Seems very space efficient. 👍🏻
It is, although its shape makes it a bit awkward. But it sure makes potatoes au gratin a snap. 😉
I loved all her books. I still have Happy All the Time and quote Misty Berkowitz.
I had planned on giving my grandmother’s old sugar and coffee containers to my cousin tomorrow. After seeing your quote I don’t want to now. Lol.
I have a Bundt-style cake pan that was my Mom’s, even though I never bake anymore.
I’m wearing Bvlgari Black today. I was hoping to smell some tea, but all I’m getting is that pesky vanilla. Yuch!
Is this the Bvlgari black that smells of rubber?
Yes, it is. I don’t get the rubber though.
Guerlain Samsara on a cool, rainy day. It has that glow.
You smell like bliss
Love Samsara
Good stuff!
Yum!
Wearing Bond No.9 Central Park for the CP.
Very busy and uncomfortable day working outside. It is very muggy and cloudy. We are expecting rain later this afternoon. Taking a break now to sip and iced lemonade.
Happy Wednesday! 🌻
Ice-cold lemonade sounds delightful.
It was very refreshing and comforting on this horrible humid day outside! 😀
Muggy here too.
😖
Muggy here as well. I bet it’s still icky out, even though it’s been raining on and off for a few hours now.
Still drizzling here and still very humid. I hope tomorrow is a better day.
Hot muggy and cloudy is a weird summer feeling. Hope tomorrow is something less grim.
I hope so too! It was a very was very unpleasant summer day.
Will wear Cloon Keen Roísín Dubh, to celebrate the roses blooming in the backyard AND the papery accord that works well for a musty house full of books AND that this is an utterly local perfume to one of the places I wish were my home, Galway.
Rain here today. It’s my birthday, and we will forego the usual birthday hike or kayak outing to have lunch at a wonderful drive-in restaurant near us (cheeseburger, fries, and a root beer float!), go to a museum I’ve wanted to visit, and check out a newish yarn store in the same town. Mr. Skal is a good sport. (He will enjoy lunch and museum, but not so much the yarn store — though he does have a knack for choosing colors.) probably end the day with our weekly CSA pickup, which now occurs at a local brewery, so there will be a glass of beer in it for each of us. And our grandson rolled over today for the first time, which is a pretty great birthday gift!
Happy Birthday, Skalolazka! Your day sounds wonderful! 🎂
Happy birthday! Sounds wonderful, even with the rain. (I strongly support the yarn store choice. 🙂 )
The happiest of birthdays to you!
Happy Birthday!
Birthday 🥳 wishes
Happy happy birthday to you!! 💐🎂
Best wishes on your birthday, have lots of fun.
Happy birthday to you! It sounds like you have a great day lined up.
Happy Birthday, skalolazka!
🎉🎂💐 It sounds like a nice celebration, in spite of the rain.
Happy Happy Day!!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday, skalolazka, and congrats on your grandson’s new skill. 🎂
Happy birthday!
Happy Scented Birthday! Sounds like you have a great one planned!
Love your day’s agenda!
Happy Birthday!!
Happy Birthday!
Hope all your plans turned out as perfect as they sound! Happy Birthday.
Cold and dreary here again today, after we had a few weeks of decent weather. Seems Juneuary is back. It’s a good day to wear Felanilla for the CP, which is probably the first scent I bought locally.
Ockeghem Teen had her last concert of the school year last night, so it truly does feel like the year is winding down, though we’ve got a couple weeks left. It’s amazing how many concerts and ensembles her school has, yet with far fewer forces than we had in my small, rural high school band in the United States. I’ve learned a lot about weird orchestration this year. 🙂 (Music isn’t really a thing in the elementary schools here, so even though she’s in the only public arts school in the city, they’re missing a lot of the less common instruments.)
Ah, Felanillah, wonderful scent, I will wear once I get home.
What instrument is Ockeghem Teen playing? (And apologies if you’ve already said and I’ve forgotten. I do that alot)
Hey, no worries. Not sure if I’ve ever mentioned it. She plays French horn. Here in Canada, that means she often plays with saxophones taking the other French horn parts. It’s very different here — my rural high school band in the U.S. fielded a full marching and concert band with at least four of everything, and competed well at the state level, while in Canada there are no provincial competitions, no marching bands, few student orchestras, and band / symphony orchestration is…interesting.
Ah, that is interesting. My son played clarinet, in marching and concert band and orchestra, but I know they had to convince kids to do certain instruments to have full coverage! He did clarinet mostly because we already had one in the house, from when my husband played.
Somehow I thought marching band was everywhere, and if I had been forced to guess, would have thought music education in Canada would be bigger & better than in the US. So that is interesting!
No CP points for me, wearing Beyond Love because I just adore tuberose in summer. I managed to think I had lost my phone before getting on the ferry to the Isle de Bréhat. Fortunately the first ferry back left me with an hour and a half to explore this beautiful island. I met a really nice German woman and we chatted until I got back to my car, where of course I had left my phone. Getting old is just great!
I was so relieved that I still had my phone that I treated myself to a very nice if rather large ice-cream.
Ice Cream is the best reward, commiseration, refresher or anytime treat.
Boring but true: When Greyhounds win a race in Australia they are given a soft serve ice cream
Had to google Isle de Bréhat, boy does that look lovely! Glad you got to see it AND keep your phone AND have ice cream.
I’ve done that, except with keys and Nantucket in the U.S.! We took our bikes to Nantucket one summer day, leaving our car on Cape Cod. Once we got there I realized I’d lost my keys. We rode but caught an earlier ferry back, and as soon as we got back I found my keys in the bike rack on the car. 🙂
Not an age thing…I was probably 25 at the time. 🙂 And ice cream is a lovely reward.
Trying to gird myself to get through some writing, with the throbbing, banging boom-boom boom-boom-boom boom-boom of a jackhammer smashing away somewhere nearby. We live in a sort of dell (here called the Glen) so sounds reverberate. 🙁
Perfume? Oh yes. In Darcy. Probably the most mainstream of all my perfumes minus the Chanels. I love it. I definitely have a thing for the modern patchoulis. I have a similar love for my Le Cri. The shared bit is the fizzy modern patch.
Hope you managed to finish Oakland Fresca! That’s the worst.
Trying out a couple of discounter decants, namely Dioressimo and Delina, two rather pink perfumes. I wore the former when I was in college in Montreal back in the day, my first Real Perfume after Cristalle. The new iteration seems okay so far…?
And I went from Diorissimo to Cristalle 🙂
Already breaking my rose week to wear Prada Candy today, I’ve been craving it lately.
We got over a half inch of rain last night, at last. It smelled wonderful!
Rain is lovely when you go long enough without it, right?
Groggy groggy groggy morning here, wearing a few spritzes of Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom (why oh why did they discontinue this one???) for its refreshing, head-clearing bracingness. This is a close-ish to home one, since home is the Central Coast and I grew up amid many lemon blossoms.
Pacifica discontinued a lot of great perfumes. 😠
They sure did. Could kick myself for not stocking up when they sold at my local health food store for $15. The candles were also amazing and cheap as chips!!
Boscov’s had them too at the cheapie price!
Really?
Smoothie is banana, strawberries and yogurt
On a whim I wore Panettone today, was afraid it was too heavy for a warm day but it turned out there was enough orange to give some freshness, and tonight I added some Vanilla Diorama, it seamlessly layered with Panettone, VD has quite a lot of orange too and a boozy note, so it worked really well, I’m glad to report. I was in the mood for gourmands it seems, my favorite is probably Missoni Gianduia but it’s a very rich chocolate which seemed wrong for the season.
Panettone sounds wonderful, I have not tried that one.
Robin, it’s very orangey and boozy, it’s a good one for sure, I think it would betraditionally worn for the holidays though.
Ah, that sounds even better. Thanks, maybe I will get a sample.
Diptyque Philosokos – so no CP points but for a bit of good news I woke up with my stomach feeling off (thanks, uterus, love ya) and this is not making me feel more gross or crampy! So, yay!
Happy Hump Day y’all!
Bleurgh. Sorry to hear about a touchy tummy.
Ugh. Hope you are feeling better now.
Wearing Twilly Au Gingembre, so no CP points for me. I like it, but not as much as the original. They don’t seem to be much related. It seems a bit thin, and hardly any florals. I’ll stick with my adorable little bottle of the original.
I wonder if we’ll get another Twilly flanker?
Maybe it’s time. I wonder how the two out now have done with sales.
No points; again, I was derailed from the sample stash by a stop at Plato’s Closet. 50ml of Dior Joy for $16 + tax. It’s safe. It’s pleasant. It was worth the price and I’m hoping one of my nieces might like it.
Correction: Just looked again and the Joy is the 30ml size.
Nice find!
I bet one of your nieces will enjoy that!
Another fog laden day in Los Angeles. Have a throw across my lap at my desk. Middle of June and have not yet turned on AC. Love it.
SOTD is Chanel Allure because it’s beautiful.
My very first social security check was in my account this morning! The upsides of 70:)
You smell wonderful, apsara. Congrats on your SS coming through!
Definitely a milestone. Congrats!
I’m going very local this morning, with a Wellington perfumer whose shop is only about a kilometre from my apartment. It’s up a very steep hill, so it feels further away. The perfume is a chypre called Celestine and the brand is Fragrifert.
Love the name of that perfume. What kind of chypre is it?
No CP points for me, I’m wearing Narciso Rouge, the edp. I’m trying to talk myself into going for a walk, but it’s really warm and humid right now. I might wait until this afternoon when the humidity will be lower.
Hope you got out there foxbins! Although I did not manage a walk myself today.
Trying Giardini Di Toscana Borabora today…sweet and tropical so far…possibly too fruity for me. I love to eat fruit but not necessarily that fond of it in fragrance.
Went to the office yesterday for an all-day meeting which I led and had to present/speak for the majority of the time. I am still quite tired. eaehhe 🥱 Tried to convince our vendor to do a project for us they are hesitant to take on due to some of the risks/unknowns but I gave a good performance and it went well…will know next week if I succeeded. 🎭 😉
Here’s hoping for your success!
Thank you, MossyBerry!
I’ll be crossing my fingers for you!
Thank you, AnnE! 🙂
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you!
Thank you, hajusuuri!
Have you tried the new Love Eau Fraiche yet? Please post your thoughts if/when you do. I never tried the old/original version and am curious about this new one.
I have not and will do so once I do!
Unsettled weather for me today. On the plus side, there was some much needed rain. On the minus side, pea-sized hail was falling earlier this afternoon. But the hail was short lived and doesn’t seem to have done any damage.
It was a good day to stay indoors and get more laundry done.
SOTD = the usual, Korres Guava lotion. A little goes a long way but isn’t greasy or sticky in summer weather.
Hail is always scary! One summer we had hail the size of golf balls that didn’t melt … all over my driveway
The worst hail I have ever dealt with was in Colorado. It was baseball to softball sized. Thankfully it was not in the area that I lived in at the time. But it did hit where I worked.
My brother has had to replace 2 roofs due to hail damage.
Whoa, I did not even know about the hail! All I know is after yesterday’s rain, my car was clean 🧽!
Some places down here had hail, others did not. It was (pardon the pun) hit or miss.
Hail! That’s crazy for June. Glad it didn’t last long.
It wasn’t bad at all as far as hail goes. Not terribly noisy and short lived. I think it had all melted before the rain stopped.
Hail is not unusual as summer weather here.
Testing Caswell Massey Lilac on one hand and Almond on the other…. Been wanting to try the almond for a while and wasn’t aware there was a lilac. I like them both.
Just looked at the prices….$125 for 60 ml….when did Caswell Massey become so expensive?
The same time everything else got expensive. Did you see the price increase for JD perfumes. Just when I talked myself into blind buying Singularity. I still might but I also want Chocolate +Rose.
Do you like them $125?
No CP participation for me today, I needed an easy reach and I grabbed Shalimar Philtre.
Thanks for the two very enthusiastic endorsements for Trimerous yesterday! I will thunk my sample and seriously consider a full bottle. I really love that it’s reasonably priced too.
Woohoo!
Woohoo x 2!
SOTD = Love, by Kilian, don’t be shy Extreme
❤️❤️❤️
I’m pretty sure I tried this somewhere in NY / NJ, so I am claiming CP points!
I went into the office today. At the train station, you see / hear people whom you know have not seen each other for a while. Well, there was one such couple and when they entered the train, they must have gone through 4 sets of “Please, no, you go first.” If they had gone on to a 5th time, I would have yelled at them to move! I mean, seriously people! I say be polite once and then just go because there a whole bunch of people waiting behind you…
And, here’s my bottle:
https://www.instagram.com/p/CtfMZGKxvcp/?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==
Is this one a lot different than the regular one? I had a sample of the first original and it seems different than what is at Sephora now.
My nose detects a difference. The Extreme is truly extreme and it makes the regular one just … regular.
Those people you encountered sound like the Goofy Gophers:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goofy_Gophers
LOL! 😆
Those people are annoying Hajusuuri.
The opposite is also galling, when people start flooding into a train before the passengers have stepped off.
I agree! It happens in the elevators too although some people don’t even look when they come out thinking it arrived at their destination.
In Vanilla Diorama (thanks to hajusuuri) for Bourbon day. I love vanilla and cocoa together and this one does it so well.
It was dreary and rainy this morning, so I’ve been drinking a pot of cozy chai.
My parents 50th anniversary is this Friday. Last weekend my dad asked me to help him get reservations for dinner to surprise my mom. Today my mom asked me to help her get reservations for dinner to surprise my dad. I told my dad I would keep his secret, but until my mom finds out I know my she is going to be annoyed with me for being noncommittal about helping her. 😂😂
Congrats on your parents’ 50th wedding anniversary!
😄 What a spot to begin! I don’t envy you.
That’s so sweet. It’s like the famous O. Henry story of the two gifts.
Awwwwwwwww! Congrats on your parents’ 50th Anniversary! That’s something special to celebrate.
Ha! That’s hilarious. I wish I’d have gotten there with my parents (we likely would have if my mom hadn’t gotten sick),
I’m posting late. Lots of resting and sleeping today. Saw my doctor yesterday and got antibiotics because he thinks I have a sinus infection. Hope it will help kick this thing.
Somewhere in the afternoon I managed to spray on perfume. I chose Chanel Paris-Deauville because it seemed a good option for our current spate of super-hot weather.
Ew, sinus infections are horrible. Hope those antibiotics help!
I hope you’re all better soon!
My sotd is Nest Sunkissed Hibiscus. A very easy wear for work. Guess what I found on the shelf today at work? A dirty diaper! I swear I do not make this stuff up.
GROSS! 🤢🤮
OMG – That’s terrible!
EW!
You can’t make that up! So gross..
Oh Lord! 😱
Mon Dieu!
Ugh…people.
