It's Tuesday and World Softball Day. Birthdays: W. B. Yeats, Dorothy L. Sayers. What fragrance are you wearing?
Cheating a bit, but in honor of the new blooms on my frost-proof gardenia (it worked! it lived through a frost!) I'm back in Maria Candida Gentile Lady Day.
Reminder: on 6/16 we're doing Close to Home...wear a perfume that comes from a local maker, or has your location in its name or backstory, or maybe uses a ingredient/ plant that is native to your area, or interpret this howsoever you like. Suggested by Kanuka.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Nymphenburg Symphony Blue Pearl Tea Pot ("Perhaps the single most iconic service in Nymphenburg’s history, the Pearl pattern dates back to 1793 and was considered so exquisite that for over 100 years that it was reserved exclusively for the Bavarian royal family. Based on an unprecedented 12-sided shape and named for the line of pearls that runs along its edges, Pearl connects the past to the present with a timeless opulence and a design that is still striking. Porcelain with hand painted in-glaze in blue") is $2,010 at Kneen & Co.
The teapot is lovely (although not its price). Congrats on your gardenia, Robin! May it live though many winters.
This time we had two air alerts, so I had a night of interrupted sleep. At some point, I dreamed of explosions and of me crouching in the hall, but then I woke up and realized it was just a dream and I was still in bed without any sounds from outside. The second air alert was in the morning, at the time when people usually get ready for work or leave their houses for work. I have no idea how people working 9 to 5 handle this. At least mom and I can sleep in. Our town was spared, but there are some deaths in Kryvyi Rih.
I am continuing my yellow and blue theme. Rance 1795 D’Erje for yellow and Dom Rosa for blue (blue juice). I think my Dom Rosa might be be going off – the fizzy grapefruit is almost completely gone, although the rose note is still very prominent.
my heart breaks for you. I hope your dreams get more peaceful. It’s just your body/mind dealing with the happenings around you probably.
I fell asleep to the sounds of notifications of missile movements, so it makes sense I dreamed of something like that. You know it was not even that frightening – I was more angry than scared in that dream, and it was nice that the reality was better than the dream.
Seconding this, and sending you huge wishes for safety, peace, and calm.
Anger is better than fear, IMHO. I’m glad you’ve chosen the former. Stay safe.
So glad it was just a dream but it means you’re stressed by all these alerts and who wouldn’t be? How nice to see the house of Rance mentioned, I don’t know 1795 d’Erje.
It is similar to J’adore, but kind of muted.
It sounds lovely and cosy, J’Adore can be almost too radiant.
Exactly. It may be not a very exciting scent and it is quite linear on me, but sometimes you want a cosy white floral, and D’Erje delivers. I must say that the fragarance makes me think of a scented body product, but I do not mind. It is pretty and makes me smile.
I don’t think the gardenia will make it through the winter, although I’ll bring it indoors & try, but I’ve had them die on the front porch before blooming, so this is an improvement 🙂
Now later in the day, and less rushed and read the rest of your message. I apologize for yakking about my stupid gardenia when you are being woken up by air alerts. I’m not surprised you are dreaming about them too.
Glannys, what are things like in your town in terms of population…are most people still home (or have returned home) or has a large percentage of the population left?
What a horrible dream.
I’m wearing Thé Yulong, which I like very much. I am still looking for my perfect tea fragrance.
I am still looking for the perfect black tea, and keep meaning to try the Bvlgari.
Good Girl Gone Bad
Off to the library later today.
I think I remember this one – white floral/fruity. Pretty!
Very pretty. Do you have a favorite By Kilian scent?
I am wearing a long white dress and thought this outfit and that perfume would go nicely together.
And THUNK- I finished the rest of this sample.
Oh yes, white dress sounds like a perfect pairing for this scent.
My favorite is Sweet Redemprion, I guess. I also like Beyond Love, Taste of Heaven and Liaisons Dangereuses.
What a gorgeous teapot!
I have an idea for the CP. Since my roses are blooming right outside my porch windows, I’m having a rose week, starting with La Fille de Berlin from a lovely NSTer. It’s very cool and gray, hopefully we’ll get some rain today. Have a great day everyone.
Isn’t that pretty? All wrong for everything about my life, but pretty.
Enjoy those roses! 🌹🌹🌹
About to get into the shower to wear a copious amount of no 5 edt so I can finish the bottle. My bottle of Memoir never arrived so I decided on a refund. I am thinking that it was either broken in transit or someone in the delivery company decided to steal it. That has happened to me a couple times in the past when someone decided to steal what I ordered. I might not buy tons of higher end items but sheesh.
How very frustrating about your Memoir! I love it, but I always feel slightly self-conscious about wearing it because its beauty is so odd.
Ugh, so sorry Dawn!
What a bummer!
SOTD = Le Labo Iris 39
Kanuka gave me some ideas! I will do whatever I bought from a store front in NJ or NY.
Le Labo Iris 39 was from Barney’s (R.I.P.). It was a very thoughtfully considered purchase way back in 2013 so this bottle will be 10 years old in September!
I joined the novena yesterday. Again, not a Catholic but went to Catholic school for more years than I can count so I am familiar with most of the prayers. Let’s just say it still feels ritualistic but it is the thought that counts.
I’d guess you probably have a perfume or two that was a Bergdorf exclusive…
My one and only FB from Le Labo (Gaiac 10) was also purchased from Barneys and almost as old as yours too. Ah, the memories of Barneys, R.I.P. indeed!
Guaic! I drained my sample in a day!
You probably know a novena better than I do, and I *was* raised Catholic. And I have no problems with that at all. 😉
Am I missing something about the novena? I. too, went through Catholic school and never can remember which day and which mystery. I guess it is a DIY I should get on.
In support of the Ukraine, my church prays one decadent after Mass. I think of our Glannys.
*I can’t believe you only bought a bottle at Barney’s 10 years ago. Did we meet at Sniffa?😉
Happy Teapot Tuesday!
Thanks everyone for laundry advice yesterday, will be taking a closer read on your thoughts in a bit <3 I really appreciate it.
Today I'm in a bit of Malaysian oud oil and wearing a cotton shirt from one of my favorite Malaysian designers: https://fern.gallery/. Her fabrics are all hand dyed batik and have modern silhouettes.
Love oud oils
Which ones are your favourites? i would like to try some oud oils. I only have the Tauer one.
Beautiful fabrics and colors! That was a fun link to follow. I have no idea what the prices are like in US$.
At home doing housework and such, so I figured I couldn’t offend anyone in a couple of brazen sprays of Tabu.
😀
You smell great!
Perfect to liven up housework.
You smell wonderful – that’s a great scent for housework. You can meet your scent bubble coming and going!
Another deep grey morning — between the fog and Biscuit sleeping late every morning now that he’s on summer break, I’m finding it hard to marshal any ‘get up and go’ in the early part of the day.
Third date this evening with the man who liked my Bronze Goddess, and I’m all a-flutter. I think I’m going to stick with that fragrance for tonight, working on the theory that it would be nice for him to associate a particular scent with me at this early stage, rather than make his head spin with my whole kaleidoscopic collection.
Have fun on your date!
You smell great! Enjoy your date!
How exciting!!
I agree!! Stick with one fragrance especially if your date likes it. I wore the same fragrance the entire year of dating my now hubby and it was also my marriage day scent
Oh wow!
Nowhere near home today. Our a/c quit working (again) so we’ve thrown open a bunch of windows to gather the cool air, and I’m wearing Eau d’Hadrien edt for a south-of-France vibe.
So sorry SheriG! Hope it gets fixed for good this time.
Boo hiss and ARGH for the A/C failure again!
Sorry! You smell refreshing!
Thank you all for your comforting and supporting words yesterday. They are always of great help for my soul, and I deeply appreciate it. 🌻
I have decided to do a week of Bond No. 9 for the CP. I have plenty of samples that I have not worn in a long time, so it is the right time for it.
Today, I am wearing Chinatown, which is one of my favorites from the brand.
Happy Tuesday! ☕️
well you smell beyond wonderful! This was a down the rabbit hole fragrance for me and you have inspired me to wear it tomorrow.
Today is Indochine, for a visit to the dentist.
Thank you, Apsara! You will smell wonderful tomorrow!
New Haarlem, Chinatown and Fire Island are my favorites and the only ones I have full bottles of. I do not know why I have never paid much attention to the brand.

Love Chinatown!! Was my daughter’s signature sophomore year of high school
It is a great scent!
Chinatown has a pretty bottle, if I remember correctly.
It is a beautiful white and magenta bottle with white flowers. Very simple compared to other bottles from Bond, which I find sometimes overwhelming.
Nice to have a match between perfume and bottle, isn’t it?
Sampling Streetcar Magnolia from Wit and West (Colorado company) which is so far sort of spicy and green rather than very floral
I have a whole set of Wit and West samples … now will have to go looking for them!
I have again been AWOL from this site for far too long. Since starting my current job in 2020, time seems to be flying by at incredible speed and somehow reading and commenting here has fallen by the wayside. I do miss it, as it is such a friendly place.
I started my day in Le Jasmin by Maître Parfumeur et Gantier, but as I’m spending a week in Brittany I simply had to pay a visit to Divine in Dinard, which I did. I got myself the lovely and soft as kittens L’Esprit libre. I also tried the the citrus version which has a great opening but dries down to fancy cleaning products a little later (and stays like that forever). The SA also let me try Spirituelle in extrait de parfum, which met just be my next perfume purchase although I have been coveting Eau Noire for a long time.
Another great find is the new body oil by Caudalie, it smells of figs and is really great for your skin.
Great to see you (virtually) again, Austenfan! Brittany and the scents sound lovely!
They are, I will just wear the Divines I brought on this trip for the rest of my stay.
Enjoy your time in Brittany. That Caudalie oil sounds nice.
It is, they put their original oil in another bottle as well. I’ve always liked that one, both because of its scent and its excellent on skin.
Nice to see you again. I hope your summer is going well
Thanks, so far my summer is starting great.
Lovely to be back on NST!
Hello!!!
Hiya austenfan!
Hi Austenfan!
Hi! Nice to see you here again!
*waves to austenfan*
How lovely to visit Divine, they are so good and not as widely known as they should be.
Welcome back, austenfan!
I’m back in Carnal Flower for today-got up at 530 to make a yoga class 65 km up the road. Nice way to start the day. Looking forward to a bike ride after work.
Hoping everyone’s day is solidly decent 🙂
Hope you had a good class.
Scent twin!!!
5:30 in the morning is crazy early!
I’m in Olympic Orchids Night Flyer today — CP-compliant because Seattle’s 2.5 hours away, even if I have to cross a border. 🙂
Good enough!
Waving to you across the border!
For a very short time in the late 1980s I stayed in Wattletree Road in the suburb of Armadale, in Melbourne. In the same suburb was a cool hairdressing salon called Emeis that I never inside ( as I had a buzz cut) . The salon used essential oils . Later the company grew, changing its focus and became Aesop. So, I’m wearing Tacit for the CP.
I didn’t even know that Aesop was Australian, I’m ashamed to admit. Your backstory to your choice cleared that up in a very nice way.
I’ve never tried any of the Aesop scents, but judging from the description of Tacit it sounds sort of green and citrusy.
Hope you are well!
How neat that you were in the proximity for the birth of Aesop! I recently saw that they’ve been sold to some huge thing… L’Oreal? What a shame.
Oh how cool!
No smoothie, instead 2 bananas with raspberries for dessert
SJP Dawn which is one of two celebrity perfumes I own, the other being Eau de Gaga, Dawn is a tenacious little number I find.
Tonight it’s l’Occitane Ambre & Santal, a purchase from some time ago, a 70/100ml partial bottle. It smells very plush and I’m very pleased with it.
When I thought about your banana and raspberry dessert, I realized that while I can enjoy bananas by themselves at any level of ripeness, from still a little green to almost rotten, I am picky about how they should taste combined with other fruits! So, I hope yours were just right for you. (I think with the delicate taste of raspberry, the ‘nana should have just a whisper of greeness left! 🙂 )
It turned out very satisfying as a mix, the bananas were ‘just picked’ from the supermarket today, so a little green indeed.
That l’Occitane perfume is a unicorn! 🦄
You always spot the unicorns😀, this one I wasn’t sure I would ever get and it lived up to expectations.
I’m wearing a Malaysia perfume, Santal Tonka from Hikayat. It’s a very smooth and comforting sandalwood. I don’t get much tonka and when I went to read about the scent, it says they use a tonka tincture, so maybe that’s why I’m not picking it up much.
Last night, I sampled Jorum Studio’s Trimerous and completely fell in love. I got the sample from a split meet many moons ago and didn’t get around to trying it until now. Will wear it again tonight and see if it makes the FB wishlist. Any iris fans out there with an opinion about this scent?
It’s my favorite from Jorum and overall, a great perfume. Definitely Top Ten for sure!
Big praise! Get ready for another pin!
I meant to post earlier and was going to say that I love it and I believe hajusuuri is also a big fan😊
I’m way off theme today in Mito EdP. I’m wearing a jacket with a lemon print (the fruit, not just the colour) and Mito seems just right.
PSA – Luckyscent is now stocking the re-issued Vero Profumo range. I’ve ordered a sample of Rubj Voile d’Extrait, which I’d missed out on trying earlier.
This is the best news ever. I didn’t know that some Vero Kerns had been re-issued. I will investigate if they are available in Europe.
Please do and report back. I’ll be in the UK and France for a few weeks and would love to track down her fragrances there.
Close to home would be anything honeysuckle. So far, the best one IMHO is BBW Wild Honeysuckle. Lucky enough to have a body mist and EDT. However, will probably wear my new decant of Violet Volnyka (thanks, AnnE!). Gorgeous weather in NW Arkansas right now. We’ve had a nice extension of spring after a late start.
And GORGEOUS teapot!
It really is a gorgeous teapot. Completely n
Ugh, sorry: completely not in keeping with my lifestyle, but so very, very pretty.
My lifestyle either skalolazka!
Love honeysuckle in the wild
I think we are scent twins for all the perfumes we both love! This was one of my favorites way back when. I had a little bottle of the body mist and it just hit the spot!
I think we are, too!
That is a beautiful Honeysuckle! I have a few bottles, too. Another gorgeous one was Estee Lauder’s Honeysuckle. You’ve given me ideas.
Thanks! It’s lovely being back.
This was meant to be posted somewhere else. Sorry!
I missed your post above. Nice to see you and welcome back!
Good to see you and to know you’ve been enjoying your perfumes all along!
Beautiful teapot, Robin – and that is exciting about your gardenia. SotD La Vie Est Belle Iris Absolue. I took a break from the sample stash because I had lunch with a friend, and I thought this one was safe. I’ll claim CP points, because iris is a scent that I associate with the comfort and safety of home. I did not get my single iris moved in time this year for it to bloom, but my childhood home had a big patch. I would always be mesmerized by the scent, the yellow beards, the bees that would land on them, and the way the petals sparkle. My yard does not have an ideal spot for iris to take over unless I re-do something else, and I remain indecisive.
How is the LVEB Iris Absolue?
I am about to cal it a “love.” Perhaps for most it is at best the best of the mainstream. I am thinking about getting another bottle.🧐
Wow, that IS love! BUBs mean that it’s serious…
Perfume can be unconditional love. 😍
I am intrigued by this flanker, I bet you smell great.
The morning perfume has wore off so I’m now in Patchouli Leaves which reminds me of Woodstock and New Patz New York
That’s from Montale, right?
Yes!! It’s gorgeous!! I don’t know why the chocolate patchoulis remind me of kitty fur…
You’ve got some great smelling grandkittehs then!
I always thought that Annick Goutal Musc Nomade smelled like cat fur.
That was the only one my mother liked on me in her final months.
I have a BUB and haven’t worn the first since.
It is a beautiful fragrance. Mine’s older than hajusuuri’s Le Labo!
Sotd is CdG 125 Vogue. I’m swooning from this LOTV beauty!
I’m going to have to re-try my sample. I love LOTV. I remember mostly getting the film accord though.
Report back! I get the film accord too but the LOTV is prominent to my nose.
Commando for annual visit to derm (all good) and massage therapist (who slathered me in aromatic balms; I left feeling and smelling quite minty). A couple red roses have popped up since yesterday, so — because the peonies are still going strong — I will go spritz some Stella.
Yay for the “All Good” from your dermatologist!
Stella! Beautiful.
Nice to have an uneventful doctor’s visit!
I started out re-sampling JhaG Lust for Sun. I like it quite a bit. It’s a not so big white floral. For work tonight I am wearing original Juicy Couture for a comparison. They are similar but Lust for Sun is more beachy and tropical.
No sign of the dreaded ambroxan in that JHaG?
Not really although I know it’s there.
At least some worked for you. No complaints here though.
Gorgeous teapot! But it would not fit into my life at all, especially at that price.
Perfect weather here today. But lots of places near me are still in need of rain. I saw plenty of yellow-green lawns when I was out and about this afternoon.
Some people are using Southern New Jersey as a detour for the section of I-95 that burned over the weekend. I’m seeing the impact on I-295 and some of the state highways. Gotta keep that in mind for future reference.
SOTD = still hanging out in Korres Guava lotion. I have the matching shower gel, too.
Are you gonna thunk that lotion??
That’s the plan! Korres lotions are one of my warm weather mainstays.
Oohh… you have the shower gel! Jealous.
It drizzled rained here, maybe it’s heading your way.
At one point, the Korres website had the Guava set on sale. So I got while the getting was good.
Supposed to be wet here tomorrow. Not sure how much.
I am so unschooled in the ways of the interstate highways. I do hate it though if you are close to the detours. “Some months” may be many months – I’ll give it 5 months but who knows 🤷🏻♀️
I am not close to the detours on the PA side. But I can see people deciding to use I-295 or the NJ Turnpike as an alternate to I-95 if it isn’t too far out of the way.
I heard that the detour on the PA side is 43 miles long!
I have not heard the prognosis on that piece of 95, but guessing summer road travel on the east coast is not going to be easy.
I’m figuring it’s going to take at least 6 months. And that could be an optimistic estimate.
Keep the lotion going. I just wrote about not wearing Patchouli Leaves since my mother’s passing almost 11 years ago.
95 is a nightmare without a fire, here. I can’t imagine where you are. Construction for the next however many years they can milk it.
Usually I don’t have to worry about being on the roads during rush hour. Today was a notable exception. And I did see a change from where the usual rush hour congestion is.
Wishing you rain, hope the cats are well after all the changes in your bedroom, you must be well moisturised with that lotion 😀, Korres is good quality.
