Happy Almost-Friday! It's also Frank Lloyd Wright’s birthday and World Ocean Day. RIP Françoise Gilot and George Winston. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking community project points in Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile (in the Eau de Toilette).
Reminder: on 6/9 we're doing Adjectives Friday...wear a fragrance with an adjective in the name. Bonus points if the adjective is apt! Suggested by pyramus.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is detail from the Acqua di Parma campaign for Colonia Pura.
Kids are in school today -library has a delayed opening..life goes on in the smoke.
Zen by Shiseido- SOTD and also a state of mind.
It is bad here and looks awful there. So sorry.
Sorry for you too!
Stay indoors if you can
We are masking outside, but it really seemed to clear up quite a bit by later afternoon…sky looked blue instead of beige. Hope it is getting better there!
It was bad here too a couple of days ago, it is better today.
The sun is peaking out so that is a good sign!
I’m wearing Poivre Electrique, from Atelier Colognes. This is a definite yes. The pepper note really works on my skin.
Nice adjective for the CP, also!
Solo Adjective day four: vintage EL Knowing parfum, a genuinely great chypre, dark and mysterious. Like all the best chypres, it’s not just beautiful — there’s a slightly unsettling strangeness to it that I love.
Oh, you chose a gorgeous chypre! I love Knowing. I had a small bottle in university-not sure what happened to it.
Love this one too, and the adjective (and noun) has so many shades–which make it such an excellent name for a perfume.
That’s a good one. I need to find my decant.
Wonderful choice! When I sampled this at The Bay, I had to immediately run back to the store to get a bottle after I was finished my shopping.
You’ve made up my mind: I’m buying a vintage mini of this one. I remember it from years ago and thinking “musty and old-fashioned” which means I will probably love it now 🙂
Haha. When I was in college, my favorite was Oscar de la Renta. Worlds apart, it sounds like.
I loved Oscar de la Renta-I remember my mom having the dusting powder and the perfume bottle on her vanity. I haven’t smelled it in ages.
Another big perfume.. Boucheron-not sure if they still make it. A big floral. My father wore the men’s version and I remember he wanted to buy me Boucheron but to me it was too much and too loud. Now it would be perfect for me lol
I bet those looked beautiful on her vanity table. I don’t remember what the original Boucheron smells like…could it be that I never sniffed it? 🤔
It’s been a long time for me too.
Not sure if it’s still in production
Someone gifted me the Boucheron, I found it too much at that time and gave it away. I should have kept it.
I’ve never tried this one! I think I will have to follow the path laid out by SarahN above. 😉
You smell beautiful, I may follow and wear it tomorrow, it’s been ages since I wore it.
I’ll probably copy you for the CP – you’ve been wearing some of my EL favorites this week!!
Knowing used to have a gorgeous bottle. Very stylish.
Hey all!
Falling miserably at the theme again in Niral, but it’s so pretty. I couldn’t resist it today. I bought it for my birthday I think two years ago, my first NV. It’s a bit quiet but I enjoy every second
Have a great day everyone!
Failing prettily then!
Thanks, Deva! Don’t mean to be venting here, but it certainly is a process! My theme for the travel trailer has evolved toward Perky on top of Soothing… lots of pastel lt blues and lavenders and mauvy pinks for the soothing with hits of brighter turquoises and corals for the perky. 🙂
Wow that post really got in the wrong place! Don’t know how!
Hi! For this CP, I sprayed lavishly Lush Big (salty orange blossom) body spray and added a spritz of Carnal Flower (tuberose!). Lots of white floral goodness!🌼🌼
By the way, Lush is a good provider of “adjective” scents. I still have Dirty and Fresh As for this CP.
The night and day have been quiet so far.
Brilliant! You smell wonderful, Glannys.
Hoping for continued peace in your area.
Even Lush is an adjective! Double points!
Hope you are finding some safe space.
Well done there. 🌠
OMG, you are right! I have not thought about it.
So glad it’s quiet, I bet you smell great, I don’t know Big but love Lush original Orange Blossom.
Etro Royal Pavillon. I don’t feel very royal sitting here at my desk in my pajamas, but oh well!
I am not feeling “nobile” myself 😉
😀
((( hug )))
You smell great!
Robin, you smell fantastic — that’s one of my favorite summertime scents. I’m in Chanel Eau de Toilette after waking up to almost 80% humidity and needing something cooling. Thinking positive thoughts for those on the East Coast dealing with smoke, and Glannys and everyone else dealing with events in Ukraine.
I don’t know why I don’t wear it more often.
You smell fantastic yourself!
Robin, the Acqua di Parma scents are beautiful-you smell great.
I think I get points for mine too-Goutal’s Vanille Charnelle. Not one thing that’s carnal-it’s a beautiful vanilla scent. More like the FM Dries van Noten scent rather than Vanille Exquise. It cam in apretty bottle too-always nice for display purposes.
Blue skies here, finally, for about one day-then another week of rain. Forest fires under control-now for the smoke to clear so the rest of the eastern seaboard can breathe again.
Good call, forgot that one! You’re right though, no bonus points.
Going to go for Lyric today, after inspiration from Dawn’s unholy amounts yesterday! 🙂
The sky cleared here late yesterday, thankfully, so it was really only a morning of smoke. Plus it’s supposed to rain tomorrow. But never to fear, we’ll almost certainly be in post-apocalyptic conditions in late July & August.
If you end up wearing Lyric, we will be twins!
Glad to hear that you are smoke-free now.
I’m glad to hear that you’re home, although I know so much has changed. Good luck with the application to return to Sweden, and fingers crossed that you can stay away from the shelling.
Hope that your area stays wildfire free for as long as possible.
I’m having a hard time getting moving today, definitely need more coffee.
Wearing Tom Ford White Patchouli, another one on the why don’t I wear this more often list.
You smell great!
Quite a few people seem to be dragging today.
In Nuit de Cellophane.
Also, just started a book y’all might enjoy. Early days yet, so cannot say with full confidence if the book is really terrific or just interesting (definitely interesting and for me a lot of new ground): Elixir by Theresa Levitt. It is a deep delve into a more obscure corner (a perfume house founded in the 1770s!) of the industrial revolution and the beginnings of great technological and chemical advances.
Thanks for this tip!
Here’s an interview with the author:
https://harvardpress.typepad.com/hup_publicity/2023/04/inside-the-perfumed-world-of-bohemian-paris-with-theresa-levitt.html
Did someone say book?
🙂 🙂 🙂
You know that scene in Up when the dog sees the squirrel?
Atelier Silver Iris for me.
We can see the end of the flooring project on the horizon. It’s probably taken us longer than it should have, but we are both Virgo’s; perfectionists and all! There’s still baseboards to go and some touch-up painting. But what a difference! And easy to keep clean now.
Plus I’m thrilled that I can once again do laundry.
We are laundry twins and partial scent twins! ( I’m wearing about 5 different things atm)
Hi twin-twin!
Sometimes it’s fun to wear multiple scents. Have you ever watched Smurfygurly on YT? She often samples 5 or 6 scents as she sprays herself in different spots. I really like her style!
Yes Claire is great!
Her opinions seem very thoughtful and honest.
Huzzah for seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with your flooring project!
Thank you! After the people we were hoping to do the work for us had flaked out/lied, we had no choice but to go ahead on our own. Even the companies we inquired with online to do the job never responded back. Not sure what to think of that!
Hoping to start looking for a new couch next week. This whole process has made me re-think on what to bring in new for the space. It will be minimal and simple.
Good for you guys.
Seems much harder since covid to find people to do relatively small jobs.
I wish my husband was a virgo. He’s not nearly attentive to detail enough for me and it sets my teeth on edge.
Kind of the opposite gender perfume name today than I wore yesterday. Today I’m in Debonair eau Dandy by Smell Bent and yesterday was Bronze Goddess. 8 thought that was a fun opposites thing.
That is funny! Plus, Debonair eau Dandy is just a funny name.
Back in Jicky (which *sounds* like an adjective) for a quick jaunt out into the woods with crutches and Biscuit to do a few scientist things. Planning a shower and a transition to Bronze Goddess later on because I have a date (!) tonight. It still isn’t Bronze Goddess weather at all, but I can pretend.
I hope you have a really good time, and you smell incredible in Jicky. I have a few drops of the parfum and I love it.
Have a wonderful date! And clearly I missed this, but if you’re on crutches, I hope your mobility problems clear up soon. (I’ll just pretend I understand the bit about Biscuit doing scientist things.)
Ha ha — Biscuit is my son, and the science things are my job, which I’ve been dragging said son to since summer vacation started.
Hahaha 🙂 Thank you for clarifying!
Enjoy the date tonight.
Aww yay for the date! I hope it’s wonderful.
Hope that you have a lovely time tonight!
Still confused. Crutches as a science thing? Pray explain to this unsciency person! Also, love “Biscuit” and that you are going on a date, likely wearing Jicky, once you are safely decanted from the woods. Good things must come your way!!!
Thanks to a splendid split, I am CP compliant and very happy in 3 spritzes of Snowy Owl. The air quality is bad here today,so I wore a k95 mask today to water the horses, and then to the grocery store. Between the vicious pollen season, the dryness and now the smoke, I have been consuming Albuterol puffs during the day and benedryl at night in addition to my useual allergy regime. But all is that is probably why the smells wonderful to me today! Hope all is well with everyone else! Adorable Hubby’s CT scan got rescheduled because the CT scanner broke so we are still treading water about long term planning. Short term, we go pick up our cute little travel trailer Saturday. I am thinking about stocking it and dressing it up a little, and Adorable Hubby is thinking about how many more solar panels we can can hook up to the existing batteries to maximize off grid power…good distractions from more existential questions.
I hope you have a wonderful time in your RV. Biggest hopes for a good outcome with the CT Scan when it happens. 👍🏼
Adding more good wishes for the CT scan, hope you do not have a long wait and of course hope the outcome is good.
Slow start this morning, overcast and hoping for some rain here. Have a crap ton of things to do today, which just annoys me. I need a doppelgänger to do all the un-fun daily things while the real me lounges languidly in day dreams. I have finally caught up on sleep, I think. I woke at 530 pm yesterday, stopped by Panera for dinner, ate in the camper and decided to relax for a bit. Woke up at 11pm to a dark and empty parking lot. Drove back to the hospital parking lot and then slept all night through. Ahh. I love a deep and dreamless sleep!
Living the Chanel dream life in Le Lion today. If there were an antithesis of the Chanel gal, it would certainly be me and my vagabond, flannel clad, messy bun life. If I had more access to this line, I’m quite sure I’d have more than a single bottle of just Box of Eels.
Accepted my next contract which gives me exactly one day off before I start all over again. Keeping my eyes on the prize of a no work fall and winter schedule spent in New Mexico. If anyone is looking to spend some extended time camping in that great state, they have a fabulous park pass: $225 out of state annual pass and then free camping at any state park (I think there’s 38 parks) for an entire year. That’s for dry camping. If you need hookups, then there is a nominal fee. I will be skipping past Idaho completely as I head south this fall since they have instituted a new policy of doubling rates for out of state camper, jacking up the cost to $90-100 per night. Not a smart move by the Idaho tourism board. I emailed and shared my thoughts about this with them. 😃
Probably not the right forum but if anyone can recommend a front hitch bike rack, I’d appreciate it. These racks cost more than my bike, which is a nice Specialized mountain bike- which I haven’t ridden in about a year…🙄
I envy your dreamless sleep.
How much does Idaho charge in state campers? $90 bucks sounds incredibly steep ( says me, who hasn’t been camping since girl scout’s )
It’s half that rate. And yes, it’s steep. This is added to the reservation cost, the vehicle entrance cost, etc. In most parks you have to pay extra for showers, and other “amenities” as well. I wouldn’t be half as ticked off by these ridiculous up charges if I saw some upgrades and changes to the parks, but I haven’t seen that anywhere, at least not in Washington. I actually did get a response from Idaho state parks, which blamed the entire thing on their state rep, Doug Okuniewicz. After encouraging me to contact him directly, they gave me no contact information at all. 🙄
Slow start twins today. 😴
Ugh, I hope you get some well deserved deep sleep tonight and wake feeling energized!
😀 Deva, if you’re ever in the North Bay Area, let’s make a Chanel ad! We can chop some wood, wipe our hands on our jeans, mend something with duct tape…
Deal! 🙃
I would TOTALLY watch that ad! And enjoy it!
Well, wish you had more than 1 day in between, but not working all fall and winter will be worth it!
I am really sad because I paid $$$ for 9 nights of camping reservations, plus $150 for an annual parks pass, and now because of the fires I might not be able to go at all. 🙁 I’m really happy you will have a nice fall & winter in NM!
Smelling lovely in Slowdive this morning as I take deep breaths to calm myself after an interaction with a frustrating intern.
East coast/Canadian friends: sending you wishes for clean air soon. As a Californian, I know too well the agony you’re going through right now <3
Glad that Cali isn’t experiencing this bad air!
Thank you! And love the (new?) avatar!
It’s new-ish. It changed back in May. That was one of my best chili harvests when I was container gardening.
This too shall pass, right? Keep breathing 🙂
Indeed; infinitely worse things do <3 Thanks for the reminder to keep things in perspective.
Today I checked the US map that shows the places affected by fires/smoke. It looks frightening. And it is only June. 😢 Joining you with wishes for clean air.
That was meant as a reply to Koyel’s comment. 🤦♀️
Glannys, air is starting to clear in PA.
Hope all is quiet in your neck of the woods.
Wearing Coromandel extrait today. Tomorrow is garbage day and have to make sure that all the trash cans are emptied. Going to be a lean week money wise, that pesky cellphone and a random bill popped up and took most of my paycheck. Good thing that I had some holiday pay to cover it.
Sorry for the lean week Dawn, shame the random things are always bills instead of extra unexpected money!
Sampling DSH Sultry Gardenia today which is quite nice. I could use it for next week’s project as well since Dawn is based in Colorado
like the name of that one!
Do tell more about Sultry Gardenia! Does it live up to its name?
Finally here to play along with the CP, although I’ve been quietly practicing with Violette Volynka and Unspoken Musk. The latter is going on my decant wishlist, as I’ve just drained a large sample.
Todays scent is my newest bottle, thanks to being able to split some off, La Rhapsodie Noire. I find this fragrance impossible to classify, and perhaps that’s why it fascinates me so. It has facets of fougere, floral, and woody, intertwining in a way I love. It’s cool today, so not too heavy to wear, although I can’t see wearing it in the heat. But who knows?
I like the name La Rhapsodie Noire too. Never smelled it but really you shouldn’t be able to wear something with that name on a hot day, right?
I’ll send you some so you can try it! 😂
Resolutely (because other ‘Meets samples are calling) commando post-yard work shower in anticipation of Split Meet’s Squid arriving with our late mail. I have been curious about Squid since it was announced. Keeping our Eastern US and Canada NST’ers in my thoughts – even here in Southern Indiana we had a funny-looking sunset last night. I did have a coughing fit while trimming an overgrown burning bush, but I think it was just *local* dust and pollen lurking in its density.
I hope that you don’t get any of the ICK from those Canadian wildfires!
Smoothie is clementines and yogurt.
I pulled out Donna Karan Essence Jasmine, that was a good series, I like and have Wenge too and tonight it’s vintage l’Interdit edt, smelling sweeter than I remembered.
I had to look up the DK. I definitely never saw it or heard of it around here unfortunately. It seems like a good line. I never got the Gold series either.
Yes, really good quality centered around one ingredient, there was a neroli and a lavender I never got to try.
I wish I would have found a sample of that DK Essence Jasmine. I have samples of the Wenge and Labdanum; rather like those.
I’m glad you could experience Wenge and Labdanum, essence Jasmine is not spectacular, it’s a soliflore of extra quality, neither too clean or too indolic. There was a Neroli too that I never tried.
I’m in Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum cream on my shins and arms, pretty much everywhere except my bum (don’t really like dealing with that thing). Found it while looking through the beauty stash for facial moisturizers to use up; it was a birthday freebie from Sephora. Looked for something tropical to wear alongside, but could only come up with Mandarine Basilic, so here we are. 🏝
Somewhere I have that sample too, I just don’t know where I put it. Knowing it’s here Somewhere keeps me from purchasing.
Hahahaa, should I hope you don’t find it?
I also have a Sephora birthday freebie of the Bum Bum creme. For me, it’s definitely a Winter scent.
Have you heard that Sephora changed the terms for their Insider Birthday goodies?
Yes, I saw that email. Must spend a little to get the gift.
I worked a half day today trying to pick up some overtime. I have to get my car tags soon and don’t want the bill to hurt too much.
My first sotd was Rose Cherie. I then came home and put on Terracotta to run errands. After that, I received a package from a generous Nster and dabbed Atelier Silver Iris and Camilla Intrepid. I’ve since been on the hunt for a bottle of Camilla Intrepid because I had forgotten how much I loved it. No luck but the hunt is always fun.
We are having a bad air quality day but nothing compared to my North and East. Stay safe my friends.
Wow, you are quite aromatic today! 😉🤣
Another Air Quality Alert is predicted for tomorrow for me. Today was “supposed” to be Orange (unhealthy for sensitive groups) , but it ended up being Red (unhealthy for everyone). Keeping a close eye on the cats thru it all.
I wondered if the kitties were affected.
Not sure. They have been less active than usual the past couple of days. Both cats do have pre-existing health conditions.
I haven’t seen anything that would cause me to rush them to a vet.
Where can you find Atelier Cologne these days other than e bay?
Some discounters have some left, not the ones I want though.
I made it to my mother’s place yesterday, after my flight was cancelled the day before. It was a bit iffy yesterday afternoon. The pilot said that the fog was coming back, sitting a little south of the airport, but he judged it was worth trying. Fortunately the fog stayed where it was. I’m wearing Neroli Outrenoir today, it’s a travel favourite (not sure why).
So glad you made it there finally Gaynor! Enjoy your visit.
My SOTD is Caron Parfum Sacré which I’m wearing because several people wore another “sacred” perfume the other day. This is the EdP and it’s fairly old, at least 10 and maybe 15-20 years old. It smells, at first, almost, of aldehydes, sparkly, but that must just be the spices in the top notes. Also some orange and a lot of pretty pretty florals. I think I don’t wear it a lot because is always seems like it’s on the verge of making me sneeze!–there’s something dusty about it.
So why do perfumes get called “Sacred”? All I can tell is that this one SAYS it has myrrh. I’m not sure I know exactly what myrrh smells like. I think frankincense smells like the most sacred thing in perfumes to me.
We have air quality problems now in Houston too but it’s from the ozone levels being way high. I’m just staying inside anyway still resting up from my cold (I think).
Feel better soon! Hopefully it is “only” a cold and not the flu.
Agree about frankincense, it does smell sacred.
Hope you feel better and that the air improves!
Sotd is Side Effect – having fun with this cp😊
Good one!
Partial CP points for me today. I wore Jersey, but also used Lush’s Sleepy lotion. I guess Jersey could be an adjective? Not sure!
Thanks for everyone’s wishing me luck on my presentation the other day! I survived, and am so glad it’s over.
Sending all my sympathy for those with terrible air quality right now. Having been through several California wild fire seasons, I feel your pain. I hope it clears soon, although the despair about our climate does linger… at least it does for me.
Yes! A jersey sweatshirt, of jersey knit, with a picture of a Jersey cow on the front, worn by the Jersey girl who went to an off-Broadway production of The Jersey Boys. . . in. . . Jersey of course. (That was disturbingly satisfying.)
This is awesome! I think you’ve propelled me to CP extra points. 😋
Back from the beach, having experienced, on yesterday’s drive, not-great (Delmarva peninsula), horrific (Poconos), and bad (my home region in the Finger Lakes) areas of air quality, though nothing quite so terrifying as what NYC had. The drive was surreal; clearly many people were taking seriously the exhortation to stay home if at all possible. Mr. Skal had a pretty bad asthma attack in the middle of the night but is much better today. I am meant to spend time this weekend with two friends and their infant children, but am thinking that may not happen because of air-quality concerns. Rescheduling with one is easy enough, but the other lives many hundreds of miles away.
But (because I do remember that this is a perfume blog), will be CP compliant as soon as I’ve chosen between Memo Winter Palace and EDPFM Iris Poudré. Leaning toward the latter simply because it’s been a long time since I’ve worn it.
Glannys — glad to see you posting. May you and yours stay safe.
It’s been eerie not seeing people on the sidewalks in my neighborhood for the past couple of days. Folks are taking the air quality alerts seriously here.
Oh dear, so glad Mr. Skal is better, that must have been scary.
Today the sky looked almost normal for a little while this afternoon. Air quality index numbers have been dropping throughout the day, but are still not exactly “good”. I made a few quick runs to put stuff in my storage unit. Felt a little headachy afterwards, so decided that was enough.
More crazy headed my way tomorrow. The HOA, in its infinite wisdom, has decided that the exteriors of all units are going to be powerwashed this month. Weather permitting, my turn is tomorrow. Ugh. What a pain. Hoping that I don’t get a bunch of water leaking in around the front door this time.
SOTD = Korres Guava lotion on my shins again.
I forgot all about your water leakage the last time around! I am keeping my fingers, eyes and toes crossed for an uneventful power washing day. 🤞
I have a roll of painter’s tape that I am going to seal the door opening with before those guys let loose. And keep a towel handy.
Hopefully you won’t have any damage. Powerwashing noise is awful too. I can’t stand it.
Fortunately I don’t have to hear powerwashing noise very often. Leafblowers annoy me much more. 🤬
Sky looked normal here tonight, but I know the air quality is still poor. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Thanks, Robin. Mornings are definitely better but looking out the train window, it looks kind of hazy although that could just be the dirty windows.
I just realized you were responding to jalapeño LOL
Up early, and now I’m relaxing in some BDK Rouge Smoking. Yesterday I unearthed a bright yellow shoulder bag that I bought ages ago and never carried. It made me smile to see it, so I’ve switched bags for the season (or until it wears out, it was not expensive). I think it’s odd that something so simple could make me cheerful just looking at it. Kind of like art, now that I think about it.
Yellow is definitely a happy color for me. I wish I could wear it because I love it but it just doesn’t work with my complexion and undertones. 💛
SOTD = Amouage Lyric
I’ll take CP points …
Today, the air quality is better. I have decided to go into the office tomorrow for my regular work in the office day unless it looks bad. I have found that the early mornings are actually not bad at all these days.
I was on a call earlier today when a decision was made to send out another email regarding air quality. That call ended at 9 AM Eastern. What time did the message go out? At almost 5 PM! Seriously, we’re kind of dysfunctional because there was nothing new other than slightly more information on certain building types. And, the distribution was stuck to yesterday’s distribution because no one bothered to check the news today …
Hoping for a better day tomorrow!
The pics from NYC today didn’t look as bad as yesterday’s did. We might be getting a bit of rain early next week, which would do wonders for clearing out the ICK.
I’m on my way in!
Hope you have a good day tomorrow!
Thanks, lillyjo!
