Friday scent of the day 6/2

Posted by Robin on 2 June 2023 180 Comments

It's Friday, the 2nd day of LGBTQ Pride Month, and National Rocky Road Day. Birthdays: Martha Washington, Barbara Pym, Charlie Watts, Cornel West. Plus, happy Powder Puff Friday! Our community project for today: wear something powdery. This is a repeat from 2015.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm on day 4 of Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue. It's been restful to not have to decide what to wear in the morning.

Reminder: on 6/9 we're doing Adjectives Friday...wear a fragrance with an adjective in the name. Bonus points if the adjective is apt! Suggested by pyramus.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Day 5 of powdery iris is FM Iris Poudre. Most of you know this has become one of my favorites!

I love that scent, and you smell great-but I chose Goutal Ninfeo Mio. I needed that citrus and raspy green scent for today. But IP was my first choice for the CP 🙂

Day five of Etat Libre d’Orange, and for Powder Puff Friday I’m wearing a drop of Putain des Palaces, which is a big fat floral, heavy on the violet, with a powdery-aldehydic top, not at all my thing, but it’s undeniably well-made.

Powdery-aldehydic-top twins! But, those notes are favorites for me. In Kenzo Flower, and I did not remember how big the aldehyde opening is. I was remembering mostly the powder as I planned for today.

Putain de Palaces was a solid “Like” from ELdO for me. But I learned a little late that I should only get perfumes that I love.

I had a bottle I swapped away. Loved it because it was so wonderfully powdery and tasty, but after a while it seemed it got more and more powdery every time I wore it. To the point I imagined myself like Peanuts Pig Pen. Not a dirt cloud surrounding me but an ever expanding powder cloud. It just got to be too much, but I still love it on others.

    Hello all!

Not sure if it counts but I’m in Borneo 1834, a chiaroscuro in brown and gold. It smells powdery to me, in the way that full patchouli does. This is the Gratte-Ciel version which definitely does the trick for me. I do have a Palais bottle as well and the only difference is longevity. I attribute that in part to maturation though.

Celebrating the end of my class with some biscotti-making with a friend. We might watch a movie too; we have a running list.

    Have a great day all!

Happy Friday NST! I planned to wear Molinard Habanita for powder puff Friday but it’s just too hot and I’ll be outside most of the day. So I’m taking CP points in Zoologist Cow. Fragrantica lists powdery as the first note in the description and it smells so nice on a warm day.

I’m in Amouage Gold today, which is likely the most powdery thing I own. Probably not the best scent for volunteering with work colleagues, but it should have toned down a bit by then.

I don’t have a whole lot of powdery scents in my arsenal, apparently — according to a fragrantica search, all I have is Equistrius … and it’s too warm outside for that one. Thought about wearing Alba again, but in the end I chose Le Dix EDT for today’s project, and I smell violet-y in the very best way.

Chanel No. 19 Poudre. Is it powdery? Well…the name says it is! And it works on a warm, mildly humid day. The only other scent I have on hand with me is Replica Beachwalk. Which I may wear tomorrow.

Drove straight across the middle of our state yesterday to arrive near St. Paul, MN. Memorial service on Saturday. Farmland and rivers. Easy drive, except for a stretch where we could see black clouds and an obvious storm to our south. We thought we’d skirt it, but we hit a stretch where the temperature dropped a full 20 degrees. Became extremely windy and then the rain came. It was so heavy, some cars pulled over to the side of the highway with their flashers going to wait it out. Just as I was considering doing the same because it so hard to even see the road, it started to lessen. A very hairy 5 or so minutes. And, of course, it was while I was driving…. We only hit that kind of rain when I’m the one driving.

Yesterday it barely sprinkled where I work and a couple miles away where my h works it downpoured. So weird.
Yep, big farm country in that western part of the state, that’s where my dad grew up. I was born at Hudson hospital actually!
      Sorry for your loss.

I’m still leaving vapor trails of Shalimar MVP this morning despite working up a sweat last night. SO busy! Vroom vroom! 🛼

I ran across Legend of a Cowgirl recently and remember the big love I’ve always had for it. I love the whole idea behind it, admired the artist who, in my opinion, never hit it as big as she deserved. So ahead of her time. Now, looking back, I realize I AM the cowgirl. Ain’t life funny ?! 😎

He put down a skim coat all over and some leveler in spots to build it up that needed it. The next day said we need leveler all over the floors for a huge extra charge of course. Um, no we don’t. It was all smoke and mirrors. We are done! Had to sand down the floors as good as possible to be able to start. They look pretty good, considering!

For the CP, Kenzo Flower. I’ve not worn it in a while, and the hairspray opening surprised me. But then the impression of the bouquet-scented powder poofed back. I love the violets and the modern musk. The bottle is very beautiful, too: but cannot be left out with springy cats exploring, as mine do.

In my mind I’m wearing LL Labdanum 18 which is my most favorite powdery scent. In reality it’s too hot (for me) for powder, so I’ve been in copious sprays of Chanel Biarritz all week. It fades after a few hours but starts out great and is just perfect in this heat and humidity.
Met a girlfriend for coffee by the lake this morning. It was lovely.🌞

SOTD = Irisss, which is the most Irisy scent I have right now, although not as powdery as Iris Poudre but still. 83 degrees and climbing here in the woods in Michigan . We have gone from cold wet Spring#1 to High Summer #2 with no hint of lovely mild Spring #2 or misty Summer #1 transition! at least the humidity is below 60%, so that is a little blessing tight there, but my linden trees leaves are dropping, and the raspberries have dried flowers but are not generating little berries yet. They need water, but I am grateful for the absence of mosquitoes! Happy Friday, all!

My choice for cp would have been Le Cri.
But I suddenly felt a craving for Encre Noire… and sometimes you got to give in to your cravings 😄

When I hear the word powdery I always think of Teint de Neige. That fragrance turned out to be totally NOT my cup of tea. But I guess there are a lot of fans of, because I once spotted a gazillion Teint de Neige products: body gel, scented stones, room spray, candles, hair mist, hand sanitizer, deodorant, shower gel, lotion, candles, etc etc etc
Now one of my nightmares is visiting a house of someone who has and uses ALL those products…. 🤣🤣🤣

Right there with you on Teint de Neige. Villoresi is an uncommon house in the U.S. There are other scents in the lineup I wanted to try, but never run across them. Interesting that there are so many ancillary TdN products!

I am taking notes for everyones SOTD as I love powder so very much <3

Ironically I am not in powder today. My monthly cycle is at it again and everything smells too intense. My nose is at its peak today, which is great for evaluating scents, but makes it hard for me to wear a full perfume.

Instead I am in a simple Helvetolide 0.5%, a really easy to wear skin musk molecule. I read about it in a perfumers interview where the perfumer said this is what she wears when her nose needs a break. I can see why, it is comfortable and skinline but projects a bit more than the other musks.

Smoothie is clementines and yogurt, soon I’ll be able to switch to strawberries, sometime in June around Wimbledon.

I was in Carita for the CP, it bears a resemblance to Flower except that it’s almonds with all that heliotrope, same perfumer Alberto Morillas. I don’t wear it often, partly because I think I would never find another bottle, it’s quite rare but I’m glad I wore it today.

Tonight it’s Lancome Jasmins Marzipane, it was next to Carita and I was craving it, I wish the Maison Lancome scents were still available, Lavande Trianon sounded lovely but I’m glad I have one at least, it’s one of my favorite jasmines.

Wearing Bas de Soie for the CP but will switch to something more sumptuous, maybe Fils de Joie, once the sun rises in a couple of hours. We have been having terrific pomegranate coloured sunrises recently,; the shepherds must be trembling in their gumboots. Reading a terrific biography of Stephen Crane written by Paul Auster. The book is a bit long (800 pages) but Auster’s enthusiasm for his subject in combination with depth of his approach as one writer figuring out the words of another make it really interesting. It’s called Burning Boy. I don’t think anyone except American Studies students would be familiar with Crane down here. He had quite a life

I’m in Bal a Versailles, enjoying the powder, and other things. We had our first aqua jam class of the season this morning. It was so good to get back in the pool! Water was cold though. Started out as an alto when first getting into the water. Was a high soprano as the water reached my neck. 😳

That’s okay, in a month it will be like bath water. 🏊‍♀️

Today I pushed myself to wear something, so I sprayed on some ELdO Vraie Blonde, which has already burned off in our 96 degree weather.

Ah, that makes sense. I thought maybe it was because powder often is associated with sweetness.

I associate powder with dryness and since our heat here is always humid, powdery sounds nice.

93 degrees here as I type. That’s way too warm for the very beginning of June! 🥵🔥

Haven’t moved any of the furniture back into the master bedroom yet. We’re going to put some large foam pads down under some of the furniture to prevent scratching. And we need to re-assemble the bed. Too tired to do it last night.

SOTD = still commando, but I had a bit of Atelier Cologne’s Emeralde Agar and Mimosa Indigo on my fingertips from a quick sniffing session early this afternoon. One of those perfumes had something powdery going on.

Today’s cp was a real challenge for me. I enjoy powdery scents, but never ever on a 90* day – our 4th in a row 🥵! I finally chose Hermes Eau Claire des Merveilles that fragrantica says has a powdery note as my SOTD. I know Robin likes this one but it’s my least favorite of the Merveilles line. It’s ok and its powdery note is soft and not too smothering, but I like the original EdM the best for summer, the Elixir for winter, and the Amber for fall.

The news in Chicagoland is all about Taylor Swift’s 3 sold-out concerts this weekend (the capacity for Soldier Field is 55,000!) with multiple stories about her Swifties (most seem to be young teenage girls) buying lots of ‘merch’ ($1000 worth), how if you still want a ticket you might be able to find one for thousands of dollars, and various Survival Guides. There are also many Swift-inspired events around town for those who were unable to get tickets. There’s also a Gospelfest not far from the Swift concerts and a few other non-Swift events, and I pity those attendees trying to get to these other events along with the 55,000 Swifties each night! I’ll be staying far away from the City’s center this weekend and instead will go very low-key Sunday night with another concert featuring my favorite cellist Ian Maksin.

I can’t believe it’s June already, yet it feels like mid-July. My peonies are in full bloom but they won’t last too much longer in this heat! Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead! 🌸

The Taylor Swift concert allowed people to tailgate and listen without having tickets in the parking lots of the stadium when it was in Philadelphia. There was less chaos from that than I expected, lol.

But I still wouldn’t have headed in that direction anyway.
