Thursday scent of the day 6/1

Posted by Robin on 1 June 2023 96 Comments

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit and welcome to June! (It’s also World Milk Day and National Go Barefoot Day, and happy 86th to Morgan Freeman!) What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: day 3 in Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue.

Reminder: 6/2 will be Powder Puff Friday...wear something powdery! This is a repeat from 2015.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Prada wool/cashmere rabbit sweater is from 2017, I think, and came in several colors for about $920 each. You can still find them used if you shop around online (there's a grey one on Poshmark at the moment).

Maybe that will make the 110 days go faster 🙂

it’s going pretty fast this year. Amazingly, the month of May has been completely gray and cool and I have not had to put the AC on once.
I have mini goals for everything.
The nutrisytem boxes are here and Sunday morning will be weigh in. 15-18 pounds to take off.
        7 pay periods to go.
These short goals work best for me or I would never get out of bed.
And I got the Abraham Vergheses book The Covanant of Water for kindle for $2.17 with amazon credits to read on plane or at pool. Which is hard cause the elephants and giraffes come right up to drink and one can watch for hours.

Cutting for Stone was a book I loved and so I am looking forward to reading the new one that took over 10 years for him to write?

Borneo is such a fabulous one! I preferred it over Coromandel but I’ll be honest and say I have both these days.

We’ll help you count down those days. How exciting!

In 2007, Dior did a limited edition of Eau Sauvage that added leather to the mix. I tried it at a duty-free shop coming back from the UK that year, but didn’t buy it, and I have regretted that decision often. (I really believe we usually regret what we didn’t do more than what we did.) But Etat Libre d’Orange Je Suis Un Homme, which I am wearing today, is not a bad approximation: bright citrus top, spices and wood, and then all that leather.

Also, rabbit rabbit rabbit. I’d been up for a while before I remembered, but better late than never.

It’s heavily June-gloomy here today, and I’ll be bundling myself into a sweater and heading out into the woods (still partly on crutches, but it works!) to collect data for my thesis project. Field days call for unobtrusive fragrances, so I’m copying Robin and wearing Infusion d’Iris.

    Hello everyone!

Cute sweater! Should we start a knitting club? I’m three inches to the bottom of my current sweater, and it’s going fast! My project bag is getting heavy….

Y’all are great luck! I made an A on my test. Onto the final tomorrow.

I’m wearing a bit of a weirdo, Tenere by Paco Rabanne. It went on like Yatagan Lite but has a really lovely rose/LotV note in the heart. Failed dismally and now we have 1 Million. You can still find this one pretty inexpensively, compared to its contemporary Insense.

    Have a great day everyone.

Good morning! It was an incredible 20C here yesterday and so I walked to the hospital, through the botanic gardens. The smell from the roses lifted my spirits. The air was filled with their scent, and somehow they seemed almost creamy, like rose ice creams. There are no many other flowers competing for attention but the fallen leaves from the oaks are still lovely. It’s a long weekend, the King’s birthday , and I’m going away, stargazing. Wearing Agent Provocateur, which I saw in the chemist yesterday for a bargain after my x-ray.

SOTD = Francesca Bianchi Sticky Lips

Powdery for sure so CP points!

🐇 🐇🐇 The thing is, unlike previous months, I need a donation of rabbits as I did not do it despite reminding myself all day yesterday to do it. I suppose intentions count – maybe?

Remember the 60 (in-office) / 40 (WFH)? It is still very much in and the screws are turning tightly fast for those who are at 20% or under. The problem is there was an automated email for the ones out of compliance (I.e. did not get to 50% in the past two weeks) that went out today and since noon today, there had been 9 inquiries from a small subset supporting the clients because THERE ARE ISSUES. Seriously, it’s embarrassing when the firm is turning the screw and we can’t even get the reports right! The automated email notified the “out of compliance” employee with dire consequences.

They are indeed tone deaf. When the head of the support group chimed in and asked why the team (and others) need to get a list of those who were inadvertently tagged as out of compliance (and therefore there’s something wrong with the report), I know something is really wrong.

It’s so hot here now, already, that I’m just tending toward fresh or citrusy scents to cope. Today’s choice is Acqua di Parma Bergamotto di Calabria. Check it out on Fragrantica to see the gorgeous pottery bottle it comes in (I confess, partly why I bought it!). I felt like I was detecting cinnamon in it this morning… It’s not there but there’s a nice combination of geranium and fennel that adds some complexity to the juicy citrus formula.
I’m being totally lazy today. I had three conferences in a row, only one of which I attended in person, but it was kind of intense. But I so much enjoyed the stimulation. My life in retirement has become a bit boring. It’s really fun to be back in conversation with some people.

I have no idea if I “rabbited” today or not. I’ve been awake since 4am (mostly). Someone was tearing out the carpet and putting in the hardwood floor for the master bedroom today, so I think the early wake up was a bit of anxiety/anticipation. The installer was here by 7:30 this morning and he finished about 15 minutes ago.

I did have a couple of brief naps but am looking forward to a decent night’s rest.

SOTD = totally commando. Not even lotion.

Thankfully it was only 1 room. But yes, it looks beautiful.

We do have more carpet replacement in the future, but are holding off on that for now. The stairs leading up to the 2nd story need new carpet. The cats have been pretty rough on the current stuff.

Rabbit rabbit! SOTD fits the CP: Guerlain’s Chant d’Aromes. It smells very powdery on my skin.

Another gorgeous day here. Which I slept through. Sipping scalding coffee with fond remembrances of hazelnut creamer.

Tacking on to hajusuuri’s comment about turning the screws, I was on break with the CN last who is just an all around super nice person. She is staff, not a traveler and has been here a good while. This hospital system has now stopped giving employees a discount in the cafeteria and significantly upped all their prices. The cafeteria is closed for night shift so you have to bring something or go without. If you come into the cafeteria before 630pm, you’re supposed to be able to buy a meal before your shift, and even though she was there on time, the kitchen person told her she’s too late and she wasn’t going to make her anything. And I guess said it in a very snotty way. What’s the big deal, right? Well, I see this every hospital I’ve been to during and after the pandemic. There is a slow (and sometimes not so slow!) erosion of good will and kindness, chip by chip. They (meaning management, who are the ones making these stupid decisions) are continuously chipping away at employees morale, a tiny chip here, a tiny chip there. Add it all adds up- people are, by turns, angry, hurt, exasperated, and disgusted. People constantly getting written up for not crossing a T or dotting an I. She (the CN) actually got teary because she has kids, money is tight, and she just wants a decent meal for a decent price before coming to work. No bueno. I’m upset for her because she a caring soul and an excellent nurse and I see her, and many others, slowly having their lights extinguished.

It makes me sad so I’m wearing Shalimar MVP to boost MY morale and mood, and of course to be CP compliant.

People, don’t let them douse you light!! 🕯️

I co-sign to your comment. “Management” had never explained where they picked up that being in the office is good for teamwork, morale, etc. (to infinity) and had put in place processes that work only with more exceptions than the rule.

Smelling great in your MVP, Deva!

That’s so upsetting about the hospital meal issue. Something so simple that is possibly someone’s bright spot in the day becomes a boiling point. Like you say, chip chip chip.

SOTD was Divine “L’Homme Sage” – because I forgot the CP! It should have been 4160 Tuesdays “Urura’s Tokyo Café”. I did *not* forget the rabbits, for once.

I melted my brain todatyuÿreading about SAP Activate workstreams with their specialist roles, tools & accelerators. And restored some normality with a stimulating evening visit to the flamenco museum for their Thursday concert – great stuff! 🙂

Irises are blooming in my garden so I sampled DSH Iris Tuxedo which seemed like plum liqueur with an underlying makeup powderiness
