This boom

And in fact, what consumers are doing, [they're] spraying more, especially Gen Z, who use fragrances not [only] on their skins, they use fragrances on their clothes and outfits. So they spray much more, and it's shortening the lifespan of the usage of the product. So that's what explains, in fact, this boom, both in volume and in value behind this market.

Are they really spraying that much more to make a significant difference? The article also says younger consumers are buying more edps since they “last longer”.

Who knows. I don’t even know how Coty would really know that on a large scale.

Holy cats! I love fragrance and don’t mind catching others’ in the wild, but that is truly next level. She is careful to say that she doesn’t do this all the time, and is aware when she needs to tone it down — but I honestly can’t imagine sitting with myself if I was wearing even an eighth as much product. Good night!

I imagine it won’t even wash out of clothes with all those sprays. Plus layering!

This explains why so many of the new mainstream perfumes are sort of wimpy, I guess. Encourages people to spray with abandon, if you can barely smell it after a couple hours. Plus, there are not good substitutes for real Civet, or real Ambergris, or real Sandalwood. Original Arpege smells more beautiful than any new perfume that I am aware of. Original Dune smells intriguingly different better than any new perfume. Original Samsara smells so much better than any perfume made with the sandalwood molecules and fractions and whatnot. The original Zen. The original Diorissimo. The original No. 5. What other perfumes really have no substitutes?

I wonder what the older perfumers really think of what they create now compared to what they did in the past.

I’m a “single spritz in the air and walk through” kind of person. The process of selecting and applying that single spray is so pleasant, I often wish it would last longer or that I could do it more often! But no matter how light the fragrance, I have to be one & done or I can’t even sit in the same room with myself.
