Monday scent of the day 5/22

Posted by Robin on 22 May 2023 145 Comments

It's Monday again already. Also, World Goth Day and Sherlock Holmes Day. RIP Martin Amis. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm starting the week off with community project points (cheating, since I did not announce the project until this morning so nobody else had a chance), in Imaginary Authors An Air of Despair.

Reminder: on 5/26, we're celebrating National Paper Airplane Day. Wear a fragrance inspired by air travel, or with "air" in the name, or do whatever you like with the theme, the sillier the better.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Here in Canada it’s Victoria Day: probably best not to even get into the whole monarchy thing (I have opinions), but a holiday is a holiday. Chores to do today — laundry, organizing, deep-clean of the bathroom — because when you’re a grownup, is there any such a thing as a day off, really? But then for supper we’re getting out the electric grill for the first barbecue of the season, so that’s something to look forward to.

Today I’m in SL Gris clair…, an imperious lavender with an unmistakeable blast of steam-iron at the top and a warm incensey base. I should wear this a lot more often.

Something with “voyage” in the name would be perfect. This CP’s giving me an opportunity to revisit an old estate sale purchase of L’Air du Temps. Wishing I had Un Air de Samsara too.

Robin, your sotd and CP points made me lol.
I’ll have to think about this CP. I don’t think I have any perfumes with air in the title, I will have to get creative and today is not that day, even with two strong cups of coffee. White Cube it is, again.

I now realize that An Air of Despair is about the air in the name, but I took it as despair over air travel these days!

First thing that came to my mind for the CP was Vol de Nuit, but I might have a sample of An Air of Despair around here somewhere — I’ll hunt around. Commando at the moment, hunkered down in bed still, and not sure what I feel like wearing today. Coffee might help me decide, but that would mean unhunkering. 🤪

Happy Monday! SSOTD is Lubin Kismet, which I discovered thanks to NST swap friends!

Hmmm… air themed you say? I could do a whole ‘nother week of aldehydes since it is supposed to inspire the breath of cold arctic air!

I think I’m gonna steal MossyBerry’s theme last week and do perfumes I learned about through NST friends! After all the perfumes traveled by ‘air’ to get to me 🙂

(shush I know perfumes are supposed to be sent via ground :P)

I think I might just go with your idea and steal from MossyBerry’s theme too. Most of my fragrances I have learned about from NST friends. I am going to go with Splendiris today. I heard about this through a few people, but I know JB for sure.

Today is my mom’s birthday today. She got so excited about the Dolce and gabbana garden perfume I got her and the Bath and Body Works aromatherapy body wash that she had to hop in the shower immediately. It’s just so funny. We are going to the free day at our local zoo today and I will be wearing Au Couer du Desert for the occasion.

I’m in Molecule 01 for back to work Monday. I’m going to have to think about this cp.
My older daughter left for her summer camp job yesterday so now the house will be quiet again. She is my extrovert, effervescent personality kid who is always smiling and laughing. My teenager is an introvert who can usually be found with her nose in a book. She perks up when her sister is around though, like peas and carrots those two.
I didn’t take her this year, so I stood at the door and waved goodbye. My eyes got watery, but they did not spill. That’s progress for me!😆

I’m wearing Ummagumma from last night and it’s still very present. It’s cooled down here, which is a big relief. I love this one so much- the incense is prominent on me in the far dry down and it’s just dang delicious. If BF did a line of matching body products in this flavor, I’d be ALL over it! 😍

I did submit to a hospital in Santa Fe for the summer, which of course positions me right where I want to be. The only hitch in the giddy up is that I’m not sure they’re willing to wait until the end of June, which is when my contract here is completed. Whatever will be, will be but I’ve got my 🤞🏼!!

On a note of dang good service, over the weekend I purchased the New Mexico annual state park pass (such a great camping deal!). Got the transaction receipt in email and realized my old address was still active on that site. Yikes! So I emailed them STAT because I wanted to make sure it went to my mailing service address and not the old address because I’d never get the pass. Didn’t expect anything considering it was the weekend and the offices are closed but lo and behold! Later that day, I got a text, an email, AND a phone call from a live person to help me figure this conundrum out. Amaze balls!

Robin, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at your fragrance choice today. I hope you’re able to keep on keeping on and finding a little bit of joy here and there as you wade through rough seas.

I did not pick the fragrance for the despair part, really!

And yes, there are little bits of joy. When I am with my sister or my mother I laugh. My son and I together alone, we are laughing a little less, but we did watch Monty Python last night so we are trying 🙂

I am wearing Chanel Coco EDT today and drinking a large cup of black tea.

This past Saturday, my Dad passed away, after a long battle with dementia. I am so sad and I can’t imagine a world without him in it. Today, I am going with my Mom, one of my sisters and my husband to make the funeral arrangements.

We all knew the day was coming and he is out of his pain, but there immense sadness. I am okay when I am around my Mom because I am staying strong for her. They had been married for 58 years. When I am by myself, I cry a lot.

Sorry to go on so long with this post, but this is helping me as I write it. I was originally just coming on here to post what perfume I was wearing.

Wheeee! I swapped my winter and summer frags over the weekend so now I have a whole new perfume shop in my house, lol. SOTD is Demeter Honeysuckle which is the most realistic honeysuckle ever. Might not have been the best choice since I will be doing yardwork soon — hope the bugs don’t like honeysuckle! Ah well, it’s Demeter so it won’t last long anyway.

My Zoologist split still has slots open at the Splitmeet!

I had a look at my perfume wardrobe this morning and it looks distinctly un-airy, though I might have a contender for Friday. Today I am wearing DSH Mata Hari. It has an animalic growl as you might expect and I’m enjoying it very much.

Hi friends! It’s been a while — this past year I had to deal with PTSD and a major injury, which I very recently had surgery to fix. Now much more pain-free without and within, I’m re-discovering gladness along with my perfume collection. Today I’m in my very vintage Lush solid Imogen Rose, which has gotten (weirdly) so much better with age. At this point, it’s all luscious pink damask rose with a spoonful of carnation adding warmth and depth and coziness. In my world of many fragrance loves, rose has to be my most favorite note, and I think I have a rose fragrance for every mood or setting, but Imogen Rose and Rose Flash are the two I reach for when I just want to feel happy, light, sweet, and girlish.

Wearing CDG Chalayan Airborne which is a lemon, juniper, mastic scent. Quite a dry ( rather than lush) scent, based on the air-smells of Cyprus. A good gym scent. Our hot water cylinder is broken so I am bracing myself for a cold shower ( not a huge fan, especially on dark, cold frosty mornings), then off to the dentist ( ugh) and later rehab/ gym ( zzz) , plus all the other stuff. Hopefully someone will turn up and fix the cylinder today, or tomorrow, or the next day….

One journey that is on my bucket list is to go to Madagascar. As I’ll probably be travelling by air,I’ll link my SOTD! with the vanilla from the island in Vanillary….yup, still on the thunk-mission!I have a couple of the oldschool black lush bottles I’d like to finish up this year, there is still left:
Breath of God(good for the cp as well!)
    Karma
    25:43
And I “think” another Dirty lurking
….lol(I stocked up when a friend was in the UK,way back when before Lush landed on our shores).
I need to vent:Artists announcing a “World Tour” with NO dates or venues on the african continent.DON’T call it a World Tour then, please and thank you.Just mentioning this because a favorote artist is currently on WORLD TOUR and guess where he/she/it is NOT touring??Lol.
Clearly it was one hell of a Monday.
    I feel better.
    Kisses!

I’m with you on favourite artists NEVER coming to where I live on their world tours (they always come to my continent, but never where I live). However, this year that has bitten me twice. I’m currently on the substitute vacation for the one I had originally planned to go see an artist perform in Munich, because I assumed he’d never come to my city (and there was a weird symmetry to the Munich thing that I won’t get into). And then, lo and behold, the day I bought the insanely expensive flight to Munich, he announced his North American tour and apparently he has an expansive view of North America so he’ll be in town, so I cancelled the crazy Munich ticket. And then even Depeche Mode is coming to town…who knew?

That said, I want to go to Madagascar, too!

If you plan on Madagascar, go a bit further out and visit the Seychelles. It’s worth it, especially the smaller islands, Praslin and Le Digue if you’ve not been.

Smoothie is Gala apples and mandarins and yogurt

I started the day in I Profumi Di Firenze Osmanto which I really enjoyed today, this was sent as a freebie with an order, 10ml, quite generous, I wasn’t impressed at first but it has grown on me, it is a pretty floral, I detect an anis or artemisia note as well as the osmanthus, it’s not on Fragrantica catalogue. I applied liberally as it is a light scent. Tonight I am in BdI EDP, rather sweet today in a moderately warmer weather, 15C.

Aurora, the other night at work, my boss bought everyone smoothies. I have never had a smoothie before and didn’t know what to pick. I ended up choosing an orange/banana one. I can’t say that I liked it. It had so much banana it was all I could taste. Maybe next time I will choose one with apples.

Hi Lillyjo, I only choose banana when I want my smoothie to be especially substantial, usually with strawberries, yes apple and orange or mandarin smoothies are very good imo. Does your daughter still want to make smoothies at home?

This week’s CP is very interesting, thank you Robin! At first I didn’t think I would have anything except for the Vol de Nuit suggestion from SheriG, but now I just came up with an idea. Will save it for Friday!

If anyone needs ideas, I am planning on wearing Alaia because Luca Turin said it smells like the interior of a Concorde plane.

I also suddenly thought of L’Air de Rien, which I don’t have, but I think many NSTers might have it.

Vanillary. Lush is founded in the U.K. and the parcels come from Canada to the U.S.
Do I begin with the aggressive man across my house? I have a cackle of stories this week.

    Finally sitting down to post.
My sotd is Clive Christian X. I always thought this was almost identical to Gucci Rush. Wearing for a full day, I see they are only really similar in the opening. After about 2 hours at work I kept wondering why I was smelling cereal. It turns out it was me! I looked up the notes to both perfumes and the only note I thought might smell like cereal ( unsweetened) is perhaps ceder, which is only listed for X.
Yesterday I took a few unloved celebrity perfumes and body sprays to work for 2 of the ladies there. It felt good to give them new homes.
