It's Tuesday, plus National Barbecue Day and the International Day of Living Together in Peace. Birthdays: Studs Terkel, Woody Herman, Liberace, Betty Carter and Christian Lacroix. (PSA: the splitmeet and the Haiku challenge are both coming up on Saturday.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil. Tea at the moment is Season's Pick Jin Jun Mei from Upton, brewed with a pinch of Upton's Christmas Tea.
Reminder: on 5/19, we're doing Dealer's Choice, edition 7. Propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is a Tokusa Hasami Japanese Teapot ("The "Tokusa" series by the Hasami ware company Fukuho Kiln was first produced in 1976. Since then, it has become a long seller as a standard item. The "Tokusa" is a pattern of vertical stripes, which has been used as a pattern for tableware since ancient times and is a familiar pattern in Japan"), JPY ¥11,000 at Musubi Kiln.
I’m up early today! That’s a beautiful teapot. I had to check the currency conversion, around $80 US. Nice! I hope everyone has a nice day today. No scent yet. I’ll check back later.
I wondered the price too. ☺️ If I were still collecting teapots this would be hard to resist.
It’s gorgeous, and that’s not a bad price.
For the CP I am trying to do a week of wearing fragrances with prominent narcisuss note.
So far so good:
Yesterday was Au delà Narcisse by Bruno Fazzolari (i know he uses another name now, but it wont stick with me haha)
I should wear it more often, its great.
SotD Dryad, by Papillon
So good. I like this style.
BTW Robin, you smell great.
Sur Le Nil really grew on me last years. Especially with the hot summers we are now getting thanks to climate change. 😬
I once stayed in a fancy hotel and they had the Sur Le Nil minis in the bathroom: shampoo, shower gel and body lotion… it made my day haha 😆
The lotion is so nice especially — and the scent lasts longer than the EdT. I don’t know why I’ve never tried the shower gel.
I love Au Dela, too! You’ll be the belle of the ball this week. 🌹🌸💐🌺🌷🌻🥀
Au Dela Narcisse made me sigh with happiness when I first smelled it. So wonderful!
I’m in Dear Polly for teapot Tuesday.
It’s another gorgeous one here today!🌞
There’s a saying in Wisconsin that there are 2 seasons: winter and road construction. I am really noticing it this year. Literally everywhere I go in my city is a maze of construction barrels. I feel like it’s worse this year than it has been for the past few years. Idk but maybe the supply chain issues lead to fewer projects last year and now this year we are at double what is typical? That’s my theory anyway.
And my theory about road construction in the US is that it has to be ongoing because where would they store all those orange barrels!
🤣 probably true!
Lol! So true!
Bwahahahahahaha!
LOL – good one, ringthing! An Area 51 of Barrels – somewhere – *
We have the same thing in South Dakota. Had record snow this year and for longer than usual so I am sure that contributed to more potholes and construction.
Ha! We say the same in Michigan. We have the the transition with Pot hole season.
Wish I was in Dear Polly.
classic Wisconsin!
My brother has the exact same gripe, and he lives in Colorado.
Sounds like Houston. I-45 has been under construction for as long as I’ve been here….moved here with the fam in 1968.
Adjective, day two: TF Lost Cherry, not what you’d call a masterpiece of the perfumer’s art, but great fun.
Great fun is sometimes better than a masterpiece.
good morning fragrant friends. I put the solid Andy Tauer in my basket yesterday but couldn’t make the purchase. sigh. Decided to upgrade my iphone for picture taking in Africa, so the pennies need to go in the Apple jar. Many pennies.
working in bathrobe, post shower something for a cool foggy day. The sun never broke through yesterday. I think maybe Henry Rose Fog!
The website wouldn’t let you make the purchase? I feel like I’ve seen others report problems purchasing directly from his website.
I’m sure you will be happy with your new phone/camera! I have a 12mini and my h has a 14, which takes pictures that are so much better than mine! I’m holding out for a new phone in hopes they’ll bring that small size back. I don’t like those “big” phones.☹️
I wouldn’t spend the money. then it was sold out.
I have a 12 but will get the 14 for the trip. I took a SLR camera with me last time, but am traveling even lighter and phones work really fast when the animals are on the move.
When I checked the website from my Tauer email, the solid perfume was already sold out.
I decided not to make the purchase after putting it in my basket. : / Boo-hoo, I hope Herr Tauer will offer it again. I did not want to buy just that, and could not afford to get the other items I’d like! Phi, for one; thinking about L’Oud, too – actually sampled both of them. I will continue to use my samples for now.
Tough perfume decision, but you will not regret taking better photos on your Africa trip.
This!
Yes, exactly.
Day Three of my Whatever Will Feel Dry theme in Tam Dao EDT. Beautiful.
Beautiful indeed! One of my favs. I recently tried the EDP and found that I prefer the edt. It has a better opening note imo and I didn’t find the EDP lasted any longer- esp at that price!
I also find it’s dry enough to wear in the heat of summer.
I had the same reaction to the EDP — something in there was just not quite the thing.
I remember trying both the EdT and EdP with Tam Dao, but not sure which one I liked better. It’s been a while, and neither one made my heart go pitter-pat at the time.
Rocking my Aldehydes with a big A theme for the week with Chanel 1957.
It is a busy day at the office and I will be working in close proximity with many people, so I went with the easiest wear. 1957 is so loveable, cozy, powdery and clean. Even after a long day, I still feel laundry clean in its drydown. Lots of fragheads complain that it is nothing special, but I don’t know if I agree… There’s a lot to love about the texture of this perfume. I never want to be without it!
Love 1957!!! You smell amazing
Wearing White Cube today, just because.
You smell great! “Just because” would be a good cp!
Ding! You have given me an idea, my theme will be Just Because. Why not wear our favorites, just because we can. Thanks, pl67!
😊
I am with Pfsh in aldehydes wearing No 5 L’Eau. Numerous sprays 😊
Enjoy!!! What a great scent
It is a great scent.
Smelling awesome today!
Thanks Jalapeno. Love the new avatar.
Gorgeous dry, sunny, breezy day here in the low 80’s! It couldn’t be better!
My CP theme is “wear whatever your hand grabs”. I want to play with the surprise factor! Since my perfumes are organized in my cabinet by seasons, anything I will wear is going to be season appropriate.
Today, I am in Ormonde Jayne Ta’if! ❤️
Happy Tuesday! 🌹
Happy Tuesday!
👋🏻🌷🩷🌞
Nice!!!!
😊
Weren’t yesterday and today absolutely beautiful, weather-wise?
Yes! I wish the weather was like this all year round! It doesn’t hurt to dream! 🌞
Your hand found a good one, pl67! You smelled great today. 😊
Thank you, NancyL🌻
I like the theme and the perfume!
I am continuing my week of Kurkdjian with Aqua Universalis, one of my favourite clean scents, it doesn’t last long on me though.
I have a crazy busy day at work, trying to stay focused.
Good luck at work!
I am terribly late but hope you got it all done Hera!
Guess my theme today is testing Caswell & Massey samples. Today’s pick, Orchid, is a total fail/scrubber. It’s sort of a slightly sour, salty LOTV with a slash of vanilla car scent–all not in a good way; as though LOTV had indigestion. The C & Ms I’ve tried so far have ranged from “nice” to “short-lived and that’s okay”– all pretty simple, but sometimes simple is nice. Not Orchid.
In other perfume news, I am finally in the last chapter of Elise V Pearlstine’s Scent: A Natural History of Fragrance. Wading through the alluvial prose, I occasionally come across some very interesting information. Here’s an excerpt from my reading last night:
“For civet there is a synthetic version called civettone, musky, sweet dry, and diffusive, that may work on big cats (the real thing) as well as humans. Zookeepers have known for a while that big cats such as ocelots, jaguars, and cheetahs love perfume, particularly Calvin Klein’s Obsession for Men, and will roll and rub their faces in it and other types of perfumes that are applied to objects in their enclosures. Anyone who has had a domestic male cat may know that cats will mark their territory, and big cats do this too. Apparently, this tendency also stimulates an interest in musky perfume ingredients, and zookeepers have been known to request perfume donations to use for big cat enrichment.”
Thoughts anyone? Anyone with both a cat and Obsession for Men care to comment?
No cats, male or otherwise, (Mr. a is allergic 😌) or Obsession for Men but I’m all over “big cat enrichment.”
So I was going to say something snarky about BCE, but then I googled it, and found this tidbit on a big cat rescue site!
“A very inexpensive way to amuse cats for hours is to use paper towel, toilet paper and fabric tubes to hold various meats that aren’t the cats typical fare. The tubes are sometime sprayed with perfumes, or marinated in spices. All of our volunteers collect these card board tubes and save them up for enrichment days.”
Perfumed cardboard covered meat rolls – enrichment indeed!
“Alluvial prose”
😅 haha i need to remember that adjective
Unfortunately no cats and no Obsession for Men here, but I hope someone here has both and can report about it 😉
I hope you can have a cat, and perhaps even a black one, a/k/a parlor panther, someday! I have kitties but no OfM. =^v^=
👍👍👍👍👍
If you read the book (not actually recommending it) you would feel it!
The alluvial prose!
I had to look up that word in dictionary to be honest. but it makes totally sense to me. I have some co workers who are masters in alluvial prose. Just imagine its not about perfume but about IT policy 😭😂
I had Obsession for Women and Obsession for Men decades ago so I can’t comment on how my three feline grandchildren (one is a male) would react. But I will say that all three really like All That Matters which features a very expensive Egyptian musk.
Just looked up that frag. Interesting. I would be concerned that I would be anosmic though. I sometimes can’t detect musks–although I find it easier to detect natural musk than some of the synthetic ones.
Yes a lot of complaints about it in terms of being able to smell it. Oddly enough despite my scent devouring skin I only need two sprays and it lasts all day. Plus, I get a lot of compliments so others smell it too. But definitely not a safe blind buy😂😻
One of my cat went bonkers for Musc Ravageur.
That is one fancy cat 😉 !
My cats have never expressed an interest in any of the perfumes I have tried or worn. They’re much more into the aromas of cheese and tuna. 😏😻😻
Ha! Larry too. He doesn’t care about perfume but get out the catnip and he’s a maniac.
Mais oui! Au lieu de Poison edp, Poisson edp!
I had a female cat who was absolutely bonkers for Angel. Whenever I wore it, I had to spray one of her toys with it, otherwise she wouldn’t give me a moment’s peace. (Her name was Ned and her well-deserved nicknames included Needy Neddy and Ned the Nudge. Smelling Angel would drive her up to an 11.)
LOVE Ned! Love her!!!
Aww, thanks OF! I know I’m biased, but she was really great. She’d smack you in the face with her tortitude and she DNGAF!!😂 We always joked that Logan Roy was her hero. Mr. Vee bore the brunt of it — she insisted that he hold her in his right arm every minute that he was home. He got very good at typing with just his left hand during COVID because of empress Ned Ryerson.
Wearing Coco Mademoiselle Intense today. Can’t wait until next week because it’s a vacation.
You smell wonderful!
Enjoy your vacation!
Smelling wonderful Dawn!
The countdown begins!
Happy Teapot Tuesday!
Thank You adanst for the Hermès link! Will check it out tonight!
Have we done a “guess my perfume” challenge yet?
My SOTD!See if you can guess…
“my name is unclean but oh my I smell so fresh”….
😉✌🏻
Well, I’m going to guess Dirty. You’ve got quite the crush on that one lately. 🙂
Aaaand you win a virtual hug!!
Yes!
Still on my “THUNK” mission,Reine du Volcan was finished last night!👍🏻👍🏻
https://youtu.be/1SsoXjdxuYE
You are also doing a song match cp!
Haha!Superb!The glory days of MTv!!
💃🕺
You are very welcome, J B.
🌹Perfect instructions, and I’m already on the hunt for the correct detergents to get.👍🏻
Decided I will try to do a week of matching a perfume with a poem by Jane Hirshfield, one of my favorite poets. I used to have all her books until I took up the nomadness that is now my life. BTW, she also has a book of haikus too for anyone looking for inspiration!
Metempsychosis
by Jane Hirshfield
“Some stories last many centuries,
others only a moment.
All alter over that lifetime like beach-glass,
grow distant and more beautiful with salt.
Yet even today, to look at a tree
and ask the story Who are you? is to be transformed.
There is a stage in us where each being, each thing, is a mirror.
Then the bees of self pour from the hive-door,
ravenous to enter the sweetness of flowering nettles and thistle.
Next comes the ringing a stone or violin or empty bucket
gives off —
the immeasurable’s continuous singing,
before it goes back into story and feeling.
In Borneo, there are palm trees that walk on their high roots.
Slowly, with effort, they lift one leg then another.
I would like to join that stilted transmigration,
to feel my own skin vertical as theirs:
an ant-road, a highway for beetles.
I would like not minding, whatever travels my heart.
To follow it all the way into leaf-form, bark-furl, root-touch,
and then keep walking, unimaginably further.”
I’m matching this with SSS Forest Walk today. 😊
That’s a beautiful poem!
Thanks for sharing. ☺️
Beautiful poem and perfume match!
Wonderful poem and the perfume is a perfect match!👍🏻🌹
Great match.
Very atmospheric poem. It made me think of Tolkien’s Ents.
Wearing O de Lancome today; oversprayed! It’s going to be warm here all week, 30° C, 86° F.
My bedtime scent for the week will be Heure Exquise. The bottle is about 2/3 empty so hopefully I can make more of a dent. I also have a bub!
Wow, that is warm for May.
Continuing my German week with JF Schwarzlose Altruist, after going commando for an early appointment. I probably should have saved this for later in the week when it warms up again — it’s a nice masculine citrus / ocean scent. But it’s still nice.
You can always wear it again!
Wearing L’Attesa (Masque Milano) because I’ve neglected it for so long.
Such a beauty!
Such a great iris. 💕 You smell great.
Thank you Tiffanie!
Perfumelover67 once sent me a letter scented with L’Atessa. It still smells so strong!Lovely.
Wow! So happy you can still smell L’Attesa from that letter! Love it! 😍
What a sweet memory!
sotd = Golestan
I adore it! 😍 Go team Tauer.
Last night I broke my no buy for the new solid perfume of L’air du Desert Marocain. So excited! 😁
Congrats on your new purchase!
Let us know how you like it.
Glad to know an NST’er nabbed one – waiting to hear how fabulous it is
Seconding adanst! The case for it looked so pretty in that email…
My stomach is feeling a bit off today, so keeping my perfume low key with Jeffrey Dame Osmanthus Soliflore. Very nice.
Hope your stomach will settle.
Thanks! It’s cramps related, so some Aleve + Tylenol + heating pads + lots of coffee (caffeine) got me feeling better. Yay endometriosis…although I have a milder case so I guess it’s a non-ironic Yay cause could be much worse!
Eugh. Digestive upset is horrible. Feel better soon.
Smoothie is Gala apples and yogurt
Today Caudalie Eau Des Vignes, very pleasant, from a newly bought bottle, I’m not doing so well on my low buy, and tonight vintage Aromatics Elixir.
IIRC, the Caudalie Eau Des Vignes is lovely stuff and great for warm weather.
Oh yes perfect for summer, glad you like it too and I intend to wear it a lot.
Vintage weakness sympathy: Today, I bought a vintage Lentheric Tweed pdt. I can’t resist parfum de toilette versions of almost anything.
Oh congratulations, a great classic, I have a small bottle, Lentheric has some gems.
My CP idea is Close to Home. Wear a perfume that comes from a local maker, or has your location in its name or backstory, or maybe uses a ingredient/ plant that is native to your area. I am wearing Mea Dark Skies, which uses taramea …a sweet smelling gum that grows in taramea/ Spaniard bushes in the South Island. Dark skies here…with rain and a rooster crowing in the distance.
That’s a great idea.
I’m continuing my chypre theme with a favourite, 31 Rue Cambon.
You smell great and very elegant!
Very tired. But the tiled kitchen backsplash is done! The tile guy worked his tail off. There were a couple of unexpected issues, but they either got dealt with, or worked around. We have to wait 24 hours before cleaning off the haze from the grout.
SOTD = commando again. Nervous about how things would go, so I decided to pass on scent today. Maybe this is my theme? 🤔
I bet the tiles look great though! Congratulations!
We went looking at flooring today and now my hubby is removing baseboards. I guess he’s motivated now.
Thanks.
Re: your flooring situation, should I offer congratulations or condolences?
Probably congratulations. It’s so overdue! We still have a few places to look but I have a good idea of what I want.
At least I’m good at standing out of the way!
Having a clear idea of what you want is definitely the right way to start. SO many options out there!
Commando is a theme!
Not a favorite one, though!
Oh yay, hope you love it!
I am still shocked/surprised by it each time I walk into the kitchen. But it looks stunning with the cabinets and countertops. It is a rather bold look: black countertops, light natural wood cabinets, and multicolored glass tiles that have a bit of iridescence. They are several shades of brown, gold, and white.
There is also a change in the acoustics in the kitchen.
So glad it looks stunning!
Assume there is more “echo” or reverberation? Hopefully you won’t notice that for long.
For my CP – Wearing whatever I didn’t put into storage to keep it cool- today is vintage Miss Dior parfum from an adorable mini.
Nice.
For my CP, it’s Whatever Gets You Going In The Morning. I’m wearing coffee, tea, or chocolate scents, primarily because I don’t have enough of any one of them to do a week. Today is Assam of India, lavishly sprayed because although it’s cooler here than yesterday, it’s still hot, hot, hot.
Hey we are cp theme twins today!
I like that theme!
My suggestion for a CP has just come to me. This morning I wore Chanel 1957 (twins with pfsh), and this evening I’m wearing SMN Eva – both sent to me by lovely NSTers! So, my theme would be: wear something you discovered through another NSTer, whether through a swap, split, freebie extra or whatever. Share the love!
oooh, that’s a lovely CP!
Nice, plus you smelled great all day.
My theme for today is Wear something that wakes you up. I chose Chance eau Vive. It’s happy and sunny grapefruit. I also used my Suave Mango Citrus shower gel.
I have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning for a cleaning and a filing. Can’t wait lol.
Hope that your dentist appointment is uneventful.
2nd that! Good luck lillyjo.
Grapefruit twins! Hope your appointment was as quick and painless as possible.
My CP seems to be “whatever is at hand during excruciating long work calls”. Yesterday it was a sample of Regime des Fleurs’s Jade Vines that had been rattling around in my purse (gardenia + tuberose + plant greens + minerally soil + humid greenhouse air). Today it was a sample of Abel’s Black Anise that arrived with the mail (3 parts pipe tobacco, 2 parts star anise, 1 part cocoa).
Tea today was F&M’s Christmas Black as a treat to survive all these calls. None of them could really have just been emails, but several of them felt like there were too many cooks in the kitchen.
Those days can really make your head hurt. Gag.
You have my sympathies!
SOTD = Love, by Kilimanjaro, don’t be shy Extreme
Love love love ❤️
Tomorrow can’t come soon enough. I of course belatedly realized that if I am using the ship’s laundry, I shouldn’t bring my “nicest” clothes. Anyway, I’ve asked my neighbor to give me a ride to the train station so that’s a relief!
There was a question yesterday about what perfume I’m bringing. I will add one to what’s already there – Jo Malone Salty Amber which I think will be perfect!
Does it bear any resemblance to SB Smoked Ambergris?
Not at all…the Jo Malone is mineral and softer.
Your Spellcheck did another great one! Pretty sure that you didn’t type “by Kilimanjaro”!
It’s up there with “Cuirass de Lancome”.
😂
OMG, I mean, I think spellcheck hates me!
My theme for the week is treasured decants, and I’m wearing Pamplelune today. I love this weird and wonderful thing. Maybe that could also be a cp: wear something weird and wonderful?
I went to the site for that tea pot. Authentic Japanese pottery from some of the old continuously operating kilns. Amazing pieces. You can get little teacups with lids to go with this one. Also some interesting information about traditional Japanese dinner service ware, tea ceremony significance of various pieces. Seems pretty authentic to me. Gorgeous semi-matt celadon glaze they call moist ware. I have earmarked 2 currently out of stock pieces for notification when they are back is stock. Hopefully I will be over it when I get the notifications. They have new Imari ware made at the same kiln that the first imports the Portuguese took back to Europe with them. Go there at your own risk. But really go there. The dose of beauty did my heart a world of good. That on top of watching , “A man called Otto.” SOTD =Snowy Owl, last of my sample, but I have signed up for a travel spray at the split meet. :-).
Good luck getting over it!! They are gorgeous.
Hi Robin, they are gorgeous. Pottery is another obsession of mine…your weekly teapot feeds the fire! But in a good way…
