Thursday scent of the day 4/20

Posted by Robin on 20 April 2023 127 Comments

It’s Almost-Friday and 420 / Weed Day. (PSA: the swapmeet is still going! You have until Tuesday to make your deals.) Birthdays: Paul Poiret, Joan Miró, Lionel Hampton, Tito Puente and Sebastian Faulks. What fragrance are you wearing?

I am once again in L’Artisan Parfumeur Jacinthe des Bois.

Reminder: on 4/21, wear a spring floral, or any fragrance that makes you think of spring.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m in JD Singularity which has several notes listed but mostly I get lotv with a touch of jasmine. I see some on fragrantica compare it to Diorissimo, but I’ve never actually smelled that one.😬 It is a tad warmer today and the sun is trying to peek out.🌞

Because of our conversation yesterday about BR540 I was thinking of wearing one of my dupes today and doing a side my side comparison. I may do it later on my wrists because I only sprayed behind my ears today.

Interesting – I get almost all jasmine with a touch of lotv from Singularity. We are opposites!

I’m wearing Ostara today, from a 7.5ml rollerball. I managed to get three of these before they were discontinued. I think they may have been one of the daily lemmings several years ago.

I bet you smell marvellous-I wanted a bottle, but could not find one in Canada.
I’m in Frederic Malle’s Dries Van Noten scent- love it. like nothing else I own. Finally got it subtle enough too-a big blast of this is a mistake, for me. Managed to control the trigger and it’s pretty fantastic.

Cool out this morning so I wore CSP Vanille Cannelle, which is essentially nothing but cinnamon and vanilla, which suits me fine, because Comptoir’s vanilla is really good. It was a rare-for-me blind buy online, but no regrets, fortunately.

Also CSP doesn’t generally mislead you about the complexity of their fragrances…I find that helps.

Alien Goddess -a very mystical fragrance to where as I am reading a very mystical novel Bull from the Sea.
Usually I get a lot of coconut from this one but it’s all florals today.

    Tea is Dirty Chai

I have heard of this- it’s on my to read list!

I was looking through my candles and Jo Malone is one I have for spring weather- if Moroccan Amber is too strong.

The book store at NYPL also has some selection of candles – I am going to check the next time I volunteer

Hello, everyone!! I have just ordered another set of Tea Tonique from Miller Harris. I did so because first of all I remember when I first learned of Tea Tonique’s existence I remember I searched the Internet (furiously!) in order to get some/try some. A couple of years ago it wasn’t even available in the US and now: there You go. Easily available in the US. So I was happy to order the set. Especially since I realized something: when You go on the Miller Harris website and You try to order a bottle of Tea Tonique it is the SAME price for a set that includes the bottle plus a body wash. I don’t quite understand this why is it like that. So my first set arrived and I have worn it several times and absolutely loved it. So before someone even realizes it or changes it – I got the second set to follow. I am also planning on getting Tea Tonique in oil form as well as the lotion and just the whole line. Tea Tonique is a blessing for someone chasing tea scents like myself. It has a very floral (but not like rose or soliflore floral) Earl grey note. Kind of like a really expensive Earl grey tea that’s labeled a floral Earl grey by the producer. A tad of spiciness reminds me of Hilde Soliani Hot Milk. Very tea like this perfume is with its own transparent milky tone without being creamy or something. Tea Tonique – I consider the job done.
Also just a question about the recent daily lemming. I read it several times and am trying to understand: are You serious there is something like a wearable gin? Does that mean You can either drink it or spray it on Your skin??

Your Tea Tonique sounds really good! So nice that you can order it here now.

To answer your question at the end of your post, the way I understand it is that yes, you can drink it (as more of a cocktail flavoring) and/or spray it on your skin.

Hey, welcome back! I may not have paid attention to the daily lemming but if it is anything like the Imaginary Authors x Salt & Straw collaboration, you can either spray on skin and/or add to your ice cream / dessert. The fragrances are: A Cloud of Cocoa, A Plume of Blossoms and A Swoon of Citrus.

    Hi NST fam!

SOTD is a lil bit of oud oil and the remnants of Vanille Havane on my sweater. Vanilla and oud is a delicious combo.

I dropped off the last batch of packages for the swapmeet — it has been so fun! Decanting also helps me fall in love with my collection again.

That said, I have a couple of late additions to my available list:
    10. Hermes Agar Ebene travel spray 15ml – missing a few sprays
    11. Hermes Un Jardin a Cythere 10ml decants

and I still have the following (happy to toss in #9 as a freebie on request):
    6. Di Ser Mizu 33ml – w/ box missing a few sprays – refreshing yuzu and hinoki
    9. Le Jardin Retrouve discovery set (Woody & Leather) 4 x 3ml – Missing few sprays each but mostly full

Contact details and wants list on my original swap post: https://freebox.it.com/2023/04/15/the-swapmeet-episode-22/#comment-1098601%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E

I will gently remind you that if everyone updated in both places every time, it would get very crowded in the sotd poll for people who aren’t interested in the swapmeet 🙂

No big deal once in awhile but no need to do it every time, or you can just say “I’ve made additions to my swap list” and leave it at that.

Another grey day, although no actual rain yet. Just finished my decant of Papillon’s Anubis, and while it’s enjoyable to wear, it took me years to finish, which probably means that I don’t need to buy a bottle. I still have some ELO Rien for whenever I am in an Executive Lady mood.

Had a brief appearance of the sun yesterday, just long enough to do a quick one miler. As I stepped back into the camper, it started raining and has continued ever since. Boo! But, did see a lot of spring growth that wasn’t there a week or so ago. Also tons of birds, most of which I can’t identify because they swoop around so swiftly I can’t follow with my eyes or camera! Did see and hear lovely red winged blackbirds, as well as the unidentified making a lovely spring chorus in the background. Some Coots were sailing along at their leisure, ducking down under water to secure a mouthful. I could sit for hours and watch them, but doggo likes to be on the move. She got in a lot of sniffage as we moseyed along. Next time I’ll try to remember to bring my binoculars!

Wearing an old mainstream favorite of mine today-Marc Jacobs Daisy. I know it is simple, but I do receive lots of compliments when I wear it.

Rain mixed with snow here in the Midwest and more tomorrow. The meteorologists are saying rain into June this year due to weather patterns. I hope that doesn’t mean cold too. Oh, well it is what is I guess.

I was so excited to see all the candle ideas the other day from many of you. I ordered a few and will try some more later on. I love this site for different fragrance suggestions. Thanks to all of you.

I am very surprised by the brand. It seemed to me on the face of it that I would not like it. I haven’t liked many brands they’ve added to Sephora with a similar demographic in mind, I am thinking By Kilian or that sort of similar brand. Just shows it is always fun to experiment!

Mandarins, Ariane apples (this variety is new and is popular) and yogurt smoothie

First time wearing fig this season, I have a fig for winter, Red Truffle 21 but today I chose a spring fig, TdG Flagrant Delice, it has a gourmand aspect with almond milk but it has a sort of minty aspect too. I loved several of Terry de Gunzburg offerings, Rouge Nocturne is my favorite Rose/patchouli but the line has got quiet.

Tonight it’s Molton Brown Rosa Absolute EDT known in my house as the poor man’s POAL, it is simpler of course but really enjoyable with an outstanding longevity.

I thought that Molton Brown Rosa Absolue had been discontinued?

It’s possible, some edts were discontinued when MB launched their EDPs, even though the EDPs are completely different, for eg Ylang- Ylang has been discontinued I think. Rosa Absolute EDT remains available at the discounters for the moment last time I checked so it’s not yet a unicorn😀

SOTD is Scents of Wood Vanilla & Bourbon.
Still have little space heater next to me in late April in Los Angeles.
    Not complaining, mind you.
    Still loving my nose piercing!!

So glad you are happy with your piercing! I want to get another ear piercing (I have 2 on one ear and 1 on the other, now I want 2 on both) but frankly I am a sissy. I should have done it when I was young, not least because the current thing where companies sell single earrings was not widespread then.

I’m at the Doctor’s waiting to take some tests. I always arrive too early because I am afraid I won’t find parking. My sotd is Ilio hair perfume. This has become my go-to for Doctor/Dentist appointments.

Good luck, lillyjo! (I find medical tests stressful.) Re: parking — I often panic park too far away as I’m afraid I won’t find parking closer and then find myself walking a mile past lots of good parking spots… oh well, the walk is good, right?

I am wearing Baiser Volé, and for the first time I received a compliment from someone that I don’t know.
It smells like springtime and at the same time it has a clean vibe. Love it.

I’m in Fox in the Flowerbed, which I think I don’t like as much as I want to. It’s pleasant though. I do love the packaging so it’s a shame I don’t find it bottle worthy.

I am beginning to really dislike Thursdays. I was unable to get in to 2 of my email accounts for at least 4 hours earlier today. I was trying not to panic, since I keep all my doctor/dentist/vet appointments on one of those online calendars. Maybe I should go back to paper? 😰

I did get access back late this afternoon. Whew! I was not looking forward to *that* tech support phone call. 😤

SOTD = still in Cuir de Lancome.

    SOTD = Papillon Hera

    My word – Love!

I’ve been quite the busy bee. I just posted my to swap list so pop on over to see what may be of interest.

Regarding working in the office versus working from home – we are on a schedule of 3 in office and 2 work from home. It generally works for me. I mentioned that my boss thinks that if I take a day off here and there and if it happens to be on a day that I am supposed to be in office that I need to make up for it. He said he knows the calculator is wrong but he was told to say x. I said B-LL but of course I said it in a nice way. Wait ’til he finds out it’s impossible to make up the days.

Seriously. I know this is the opposite but I always ask that question for people who complain incessantly about how dangerous it is to drive 30 minutes; no one is holding you back from quitting.

My morning sotd was Iris Silver Mist; this afternoon I’m in Orris Tattoo. I’m definitely not cp compliant but since it was cloudy and windy, they seemed appropriate. During my daily walk, the wind was over the top; it felt way colder than was reported. I hope Spring shows up soon!

Sampled DSH Jacinthes Noir which is a nice hyacinth with some wetness. Yesterday I got a little bit on my bedding and smelling it as I was about to sleep made me happy. I might actually like it better on my sheets than on me…
