Monday scent of the day 4/17

Posted by Robin on 17 April 2023 131 Comments

It's Monday, National Banana Day and International Bat Appreciation Day. If you're in the US, taxes are due tomorrow! RIP Ahmad Jamal. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm out of town and commando; I'll be home later this evening and will report my fragrance then.

Reminder: on 4/21, wear a spring floral, or any fragrance that makes you think of spring.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Well, it’s snowing here and very windy and cold especially when you consider that it was 83F on Friday. It will be back to normal tomorrow. Today I thunked my travel spray of Bond 9 New Haarlem. I just love this scent and have been hanging onto the last few drops for ages, time to move on! I’ll wear something springy tomorrow.

Yes, it’s my favorite coffee perfume. I’m always looking for one since NH is discontinued.

I don’t see Bond 9 mentioned much anymore. It was all the rage several years back. Maybe the prices stopped people from purchasing? Not sure.

Robin -I listened to a bit of Ahmad Jamal this morning. He was fabulous! He inspired many other jazz musicians. May he RIP and keep playing in his next life…

I am reading Bull from the Sea-Just started thanks to OaklandF who passed on that fab podcast who let me enter back into the world of Renault.

SOTD Tom Ford Noir de Noir-only one spray as I am volunteering later today and I don’t want my Lions to sneeze when I enter lol

Love Noir de Noir in small doses. Very classy.

Did you see my late post on Sat? I did finish The Sheltering Sky. I hurried a bit through the end because I found it fairly negative and just wanted to finish. It was thought provoking and I’m not sorry I read it, but it’s not a favorite.

I’m in Eau des Merveilles. I’m down to the last few mls in my travel spray.
We’ve had quite the swing in weather pattern over the last 3 days. Saturday it was 80. It was also the first farmers market, and I think it was the warmest one ever. I can remember wearing my down parka in years past. Within 24 hours we had dropped 40 degrees and this morning we are a full 50 degrees colder with a fresh layer of snow. I had to dig said down parka out again and scrape the ice off my windshield this morning! Ah, spring.🤣

Finally CP points, in FM Eau de Magnolia.

Wild weather swings here too. Was outside yesterday afternoon at a family picnic, and now flurries in the forecast for tomorrow.

Tax refund received! But already earmarked for installing a tile backsplash in my kitchen. Being an adult is boring lOL!

I might be wearing an opposite of the CP: SL Five O’Clock Au Gingembre and I’m loving its spicy warmth today. Still cool and off and on rainy here in Seattle. I need some 70 degree weather! But it looks like 60s are coming at the end of the week at least.

Mr. SP has been of town and oh how the mice have played (you know, when the cat’s away…) Today I need to buckle down and do some of the stuff I promised I’d get done…

I am in Les Indemodables Vanille Havane. It is cool and rainy and I don’t wanna miss out on the last few chances to wear this before the sweltering summer.

I had a pleasant walk to work today. Everything is blooming, the cherry blossom trees are a shock of pink against the grey concrete of the city. The evergreens are sprouting tender, fresh shoots that look almost edible, I love how the new nearly neon green contrasts the emerald of old growth.

    Happy Monday!

p/s: I still have stuff up for swaps, here are the ones still available, see my post on the swapmeet post for deets:
    1. Chanel No. 5 Eau de Cologne vintage 2oz splash – 35% left
    2. Chanel No. 19 parfum vintage 14ml splash – 60% full, has some debris
    6. Di Ser Mizu 33ml – w/ box missing a few sprays – refreshing yuzu and hinoki
    7. Diptyque Eau Capitale travel spray 10ml – missing a few sprays

Sorry for all of you who got a “spring surprise snow” today!
Our weather is gorgeous now, which is nice because Saturday was a preview of summer, 90’s and high humidity, awful.
I’m wearing Parfums Delrae Amoureuse today, because it has jasmine for the CP (it’s blooming here now, so wonderful!) and also just because it’s so gorgeous. Definitely my most sexy perfume, not that there’s any reason for that, just for my own enjoyment, ha ha! Between this one and Delrae Bois de Paradis I’d have a very hard time choosing. Fortunately I have a decent amount left of them in my bottles.

Happy Monday! Refreshed my Shalimar MVP this morning just because. As far as the CP goes, I had a nice ripe banana this morning with breakfast and the Eagle left a nice egg in my checking account.

The swiftness of the delivery shocked me! It was just over 7 working days and -ShaZAM! there it was. Promptly scooted it to saving. Keeping my eyes on the prize for extensive travel this fall and winter and I can hardly wait. ☺️

Inspired by Calypso, I signed up for a water color class. I’ve always loved that medium and wanted to explore it but working odd hours and days when house bound didn’t allow me take an in-person class. But, I just recently found out I could get on-line instruction and found an artist that I really like. I have bought the minimum of supplies, which take up very little room in the camper and we’re not expensive. Watched a few classes discussing types of tools, paper, paints, mixing colors, etc., and I’m excited. I was on Etsy last night and was amazed and delighted to see all the artisan made water color paints in stunning colors and finishes. Metallics are absolutely mind bogglingly beautiful, but of course pricey and way out of range for me. At least for now, but I can see this becoming a mad passion if I feel like I’m any good, which is wishing on a star…😬 Hoping to start the first exercise today. So, big shout out to Calypso for rekindling my water color love!

    Stay well, y’all! ✌🏼

Hey, it’s great to be a stimulus to artistic creativity! Oddly enough you’re the second person who’s followed me up on this, though my other friend is taking a class on oil painting. He bemoans the fact that he’s “by far” the worst painter in the class, alas. I hope things go well and will look forward to seeing some of your work on Insta soon. Contrary to many of you, it was a lovely spring day in the UK, so far it had rather been on the cooler side, so I took some time to wander along my street, drinking clementines and yogurt smoothie.

House twin with Priscilla E in Rosine Majalis, rose and cinnamon, it’s my one Rosine, I adore it but it’s no longer listed at all on the website, it was a boutique exclusive, so maybe discontinued, although like Priscilla I like several like Rose Praline for eg.

Tonight I went with Cheirosa ’71, the only Sol de Janeiro I know, I wonder if the others are good too, this one is very nutty and moreish.

I have a couple of the Sol de Janeiro body butters. The Bum Bum Cream is the same scent as Cheirosa ’62, and is caramel and pistachio. A sweet gourmand. I can only wear that in cold weather. The Coco Cabana Cream is a coconut scent with a hint of buttered popcorn, and that one is surprisingly versatile.

Many thanks Jalapeno, very useful to know, I think the difference between ’71 and ’62 and Coco Cabana is the type of nut then, maybe having one of those is enough, ’71 is macadamia and very realistic.

I’m not wearing a spring floral but an all-out summer citrus, Madhat Limed. I adore this fragrance but it’s discontinued and the perfumer has stopped making perfume due to other priorities. So I ration the sprays and tell myself someday I might find something similar.

I’m in Daphne by L’Aromatica for the CP in honor of our beautiful daphne flowers in Seattle. I’m still catching up on NST after being away on vacation last week. I’m finally to Friday’s SOTD post so may be caught up by tomorrow depending on how much time I can spend reading.

We had the best vacation in Phoenix last week, and I celebrated my 40th birthday there last Tuesday. I loved the desert more than I expected too, and was pleasantly surprised by how even the hot days we had with 96 and 98 degrees didn’t feel that bad compared to similar temps in Seattle or Ohio, the only other two places I’ve spent enough time in the heat to make a comparison.

We spent over 4 hours at the Desert Botanical Garden! That place is truly a gem and is huge. Also ate delicious food and enjoyed a very nice hotel with beautiful grounds. I can recommend it to others and may even stay there again. It’s the Royal Palms Resort and Spa right in front of Camelback Mountain. There was a hundred year old orange tree in a courtyard in the hotel, so my partner and I got to enjoy sniffing its blossoms.

Back home in Seattle, we spent last Friday afternoon at our closest arboretum, Washington Park Arboretum. It was a gorgeous spring day. Of course we have cooler temps and rain this week so I’m glad we got in that outdoors time last week.

One thing I always remind myself about the desert: you can subtract 15 or 20 degrees off the air temp for a “Feels Like” temp. And it gets cold fast after the sun goes down!

I’m so glad you had a wonderful birthday/vacation celebration!

I think of you when I’m sniffing Daphne here, there and everywhere. I also pulled out some samples/decants for a freebie and I found the CdG Daphne decant you gave me. Thank you again – what a fragrance!

Oh, Phoenix is a great place to visit this time of year though it’s not usually that warm. I lived there for a few years and the summers can kill you. Even if it is a dry heat, it is still HOT when it is 115 degrees, which it can be in July. By Camelback it is beautiful. Glad you enjoyed your time there.

I believe it does feel terrible in the summer! I was not expecting to get upper 90s during an April trip and was a little anxious about the heat. So I was pleasantly surprised that I could deal with the spring heat wave ok. I’m not sure I’m brave enough to visit in the summer though.

I had a really intense (but luckily short lived) bout of food poisoning this weekend. Oof! It really was something. Luckily no one else got sick. Now I’m suspiciously eyeing everything that only I ate since Friday.

Thank you Robin for hosting the swap meet! It was such great distraction when I was recovering on my couch this weekend.

I’m not very Spring today in a sample of Byredo’s Eyes Closed. It’s a gingery and cinnamon carrot cake…. I quite like it! It’s not too gourmand/sweet despite my description.

I’m sorry you were sick. I picked up a sample of Eyes Closed on my last sniffa with Calypso. It really took me by surprise; very unlike the other Byredos I’ve tried.

Take care and keep feeling better! 😊

Temps d’une Fete for me today. But apparently I should have worn Bat for Bat Appreciation Day. Cool, rainy spring around here. Apparently this week I’m going East and it will be hot and then cold. Doesn’t make it easy to pack.

Thanks to everyone who had suggestions on NYC perfume shops (and cafes, etc.) on the weekend thread. I’m looking forward to my trip!

SOTD = Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme

Nice – I haven’t worn this in a while although my in a while could be short or long.

Anyhow, I got my NJ State tax withholding straightened out, meaning there was none taken so I have to write a check even if I decide to extend it … I’m not planning to though unless I get stuck later.

Is “woke” woke? I asked several co-workers if they were offended by it. Out of 4 people, 3 said no; 1 had to think about kit but he and I were on the same page, it is overused. What do you think?

I don’t hear the word much in my real life. I mostly hear it in the media. I don’t mind it, but I think that overuse could make people dismiss what is actually trying to be said.

Well I was having a problem with the brakes. Last week they said I had probably just had a rock or stick get caught up in one and sent me home. I’m still having the problem so I am taking it back. I have to drive home from work tonight and then back to the shop in the morning. I am very nervous about it.

I was in Eau de Protection today. I planned on wearing it in the morning only, when it was coolish here, but I never got to my shower or to refreshing my scent after.

Made some walnut dark chocolate chunk banana bread today for a get together. It’s so fun. It has a couple of tablespoons of turbinado sugar sprinkled on top which gives it a crunchy lid. So, I really just wanted to peel the lid off and eat it. But that would have been hard to explain, so I refrained! 😂
