Thursday scent of the day 4/6

Posted by Robin on 6 April 2023 80 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! It's also New Beer’s Eve and Tartan Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

No gardenia for me today, but I did go white floral, in Le Labo Lys 41.

Reminder: on 4/7, for Billie Holiday’s birthday, wear gardenia, or wear one of her favorite perfumes (Coty Emeraude and Bourjois Evening in Paris) or wear a fragrance inspired by her (Serge Lutens Une Voix Noire, Maria Candida Gentile Lady Day, Strange Invisible Perfumes Lady Day, Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Don't Explain, to name a few).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image is 梔子屬 Gardenia vietnamensis [香港迪欣湖 Inspiration Lake, Hong Kong] [cropped] by 阿橋 HQ at flickr; some rights reserved. [I am pretty sure these are not true gardenias despite the name, but apparently they are related and they do smell like gardenias.]

Robin I read your tweet about Fragrance Foundation awards, so I am in Gris Charnel. Even though the Extract won the award, I think they should be similar. So I smell like Figs and Tea

Hi NST! I’m copying people from yesterday’s sotd in DSH Chinchilla. I would not have guessed there’s gardenia in there but it smells wonderful.

I’m in Givenchy Gentleman (1974). This is from a decant from a bag I was emptying out, so I have no idea when I bought it. I’m not sure why I bought it, but it was probably for the combination of honey and rose in the top notes.

I’m in Costes EDT for my ongoing incense week. I find Costes very soothing but difficult to classify — it definitely contains an incense note, but somehow, despite having no citrus notes, it reminds me of the clove-studded oranges my mom and I used to make. Apparently there is a clove note in there, but I can’t separately identify it.

Scent: AG Le Chevrefeuille on one arm, DSH Pamplemousse on the other. My skin will finish off the Pamplemousse pdq.

    Tea: Harney White Vanilla Grapefruit

    Weather: Cool, but sunny.

Currently: Pet sitting my sister’s pets – a Cavalier King Charles Cocker Spaniel and a Ragamuffin cat. We’ve been mostly pet-free for over a year (ignoring when my kids bring their pets through), so it’s a change of pace!

Is the Cavalier King Charles Cocker Spaniel a mixed breed? I ask because my brother had two (well, three because the play date of the same breed ended up staying with them long-term) but we always called the breed without Cocker.

    Hello all!

No gardenia today but I feel ready for a show in the original Dolce and Gabbana with the red cap. It’s a gargantuan floral with aldehydes and a rather lovely herbal bitterness. The sillage is one of the most intense I’ve had in awhile. Probably closest to Boucheron pour femme but a bit lighter on the base.

    Have a great day everyone!

Wearing Mona di Orio Myrrh Casati for my incense week. Very fleeting scent that didn’t last more than an hour on my skin. Peppercorn, cardamom, benzoin, incense, followed by a sweet myrrh drydown. I didn’t like it much, but I will finish my sample when I get home tonight.

Thank you for all your comments and supporting words yesterday about my mother’s health. I am mentally struggling with the outcome, and I just hope to achieve acceptance and peace very soon. I pray vehemently for it.

Partly sunny morning with temperatures in the upper 70’s. Expecting rain later this afternoon. The roller coaster continues. It will drop again to the lower 50’s tomorrow. Coffee and a couple of chocolate pudding flavored Peeps to keep my energy going.

    Happy Thursday! 🌻

Lol! I wish they were filled with chocolate pudding, but still are very good! I got the Red Hot Peeps last year, and they didn’t meet my expectations. The only flavor I only see here these days is the Party Cake, which I do not like. No much variety anymore.

Continuing my Mugler kick this week in Angel edt from the “standing star,” so no CP points. Looking forward to everyone’s choices tomorrow. My Mother was always called Billie. My parents had a big collection of 78rpm jazz and big band records, and as a kid I remember thinking Billie Holiday must be wonderful because she had the same name as mom. Mother never let on about the Lady Miss Holiday’s troubled life. She just told us kids that she was beautiful and talented.

Yesterday got totally away from me and I never got around to wearing anything, but today I am in Pulp. The sprayer hit my fabric watchband, so I may be smelling it a good long time.

Tomorrow I am spoiled for choice, being a lover of BWFs and gardenia in particular, though it comes second to tuberose. I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s picks so I can find some new (to me) scents.

It rained overnight but the day was sunny mostly and the air is mild.

I chose Mandorlo Di Sicilia which I like as much for its soft citrus as for the almond and tonight it’s Franck Boclet Vanille and again it’s the citrus that makes this one a winner.

No gardenias so far for me this week, but I will hunt for my sample of Chanel Gardenia tomorrow. That one is supposed to not smell much like gardenias though, right? It’s been too long since I’ve tried it. I also have a sample of Cruel Gardenia, but I don’t remember liking it too much.

I also have a couple of gardenia bushes in my back yard but they are far from blooming. In fact, as I’m typing this I am glancing over and noticing they are nor even green yet, which is a little concerning. I hope the freezing temps did not kill them.

Not with the CP. I am wearing Sous le Vent today. It doesn’t have a lot of lasting power, so in fact I might go upstairs and re-apply.

My painter gave me some rather stern words about the importance of keeping ALL cats out of the kitchen NOW–while the paint is drying. It’s surprisingly difficult. The minute I go out there to get something out of the fridge, a cat or two sneak through as well. Then the chase begins. Cat hair in wet white paint won’t be pretty.

I submitted my jury duty deferral request last night and voila, I got the acceptance today. I was able to choose my date but only after exhausting the months closer to May so my new date is November 13. Color me impressed with the excellent client service!

Did I mention I am giving away some of my pandemic SPAM to co-workers? In the way back machine, when no one knew what the deal was with COVID-19 other than its deadly consequences (and not that we know much more now), I stocked up on some food items and TP, let’s not forget that, one of which was a Costco-sized SPAM. They are all expiring this month; however, I know it lasts much longer than the stated Best By date. I am keeping a few cans and the rest I will bring to the office. I am definitely sure I have 2 takers. Surprisingly, some have never had SPAM and I said they are deprived 🤣.

Took me awhile to remember what I sprayed on this morning. Did extra work hours today since tomorrow is a market holiday, so was at the computer from 8:30-5:30, with about 20 min for lunch. Whew!

Anyhoo….I just sniffed my arm and got a sense of something light, fresh, floral. Then I remembered! Idylle Love Blossom. I should wear this more often. It’s lovely and easy. Maybe for Easter. It’s gotten colder again but is sunny. So maybe tomorrow will be a good day for a walk. We may get snow on Saturday. But then it’ll warm up.
