Wednesday scent of the day 3/29

Posted by Robin on 29 March 2023 127 Comments

It’s Hump Day, National Vietnam War Veterans Day and World Piano Day. Birthdays: Pearl Bailey, Astrud Gilberto, Eric Idle. What fragrance are you wearing?

Astrud Gilberto's favorite fragrance is apparently Robert Piguet Fracas, and that works for me and for the community project (you can see her singing at the Paris Jazz Festival in 1968 here; and you can read ‘He made sure that she got nothing’: The sad story of Astrud Gilberto, the face of bossa nova at The Guardian.)

Reminder: on 3/31, for Eiffel Tower Day, wear a perfume that says Paris to you, or that has Paris in the name, or ?

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m on my second cup of tea, and hours to go until breakfast — jealous of your French toast!

You smell great, I thought about Misia for this week but can’t find.

Thank you, Robin! Misia is one of Les Exclusifs that does get mentioned here anymore. I have to admit that I rarely wear it, but when I do I really enjoy it.

The French toast will cover breakfast and lunch for me today. No time for anything else
except for more coffee and probably a snack, until dinner tonight 🤷‍♀️

This bottle reminds me of Paris, he was opening his first shop just next to my hotel , I went in and fell in love with this one. The prices were something around 60 euros back then !!

A good friend of mine here is just returning today from a visit to Egypt. Of course Egypt is a fascinating place with a grand history, but Cairo really did not look very appealing to me–not nearly as much as Morocco.

Guerlain Iris Ganache today — very lovely and airy, sweet iris of the doughy variety. It feels more like a meringue than a ganache to me, but delicious either way!

Tea is roasted mate and cocoa, warm and nutty.

I love the music of both Getz and Gilberto (all of the Gilbertos, really), and what a blow it is to read how cruel Getz was to Astrud. Musicians — sometimes they have blinders on, I think.

Anyway, my SOTD is Annick Goutal Eau d’Hadrien in the older edt formulation. I have the new edp as well, and I like it … but it doesn’t have the magic that the edt has.

Same…have always loved Stan Getz and apparently he was not a kind man. I knew that AG had been shortchanged but never knew the whole story.

Oh well. He is not the only musician whose private life I’d just as soon not have known about.

On my way to shower to get all scrubba-dubbed and thinking about what to wear after. I need something to boost my morale since apparently the new hospital and my agency have finally figured out what the hell is going on. My mood is spiraling quickly down.

It took an “educator” at the hospital all day to figure out how to email me. She and my recruiter are telling me I need to “Create a new email” because the one I have “isn’t working and and mail keeps getting returned.” Really?! I’ve been getting emails all day no problem. I confirmed my email address and then finally, I got her email address at the hospital. I emailed her to ask her to just reply to MY email and add instructions for first day. So, she replied, successfully I might add, by saying all her emails to me keep getting returned. Did she send any instructions with that successful reply? NO, she did NOT!!! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Could she just call me with info? No! Could she email my recruiter and he could forward it to me since I’d been receiving emails from him all morning? No! Because it seems these instructions are some type of state secret and highly confidential..!
(Be here at 7am, ask for John Doe at the kiosk…)

This calls for Fils de Dieu. I may wear it for the next 3 months to gird myself for the onslaught of inefficient people and systems. This is a member of “management.” Too bad she can’t manage an email. So THRILLED to be returning to work, which I was SUPPOSED to start Monday. A rather inauspicious beginning…🤮

I’m wearing Black March this morning, one of my favorites. If only my real garden soil smelled as good as this, I could probably grow anything. As it is, my backyard is clay and takes a lot of amendment for good growth. I didn’t do anything to it last fall so when it gets a little drier here I’ll be out with the compost and the lime, digging away.

I watched/ streamed Maigret with Gerard Depardieu ( based on Simeon novel) last night, directed by Patrice Leconte and really thought it was great. It’s set in 1950s Paris, lots of cobbled streets and night scenes, and Depardieu brooding gloomily, weighed down by work and life. Wearing Couche de Diable.

It was a remarkably grey day and I thought it called for vanilla, so I Profumi Di Firenze Hayan was the choice this morning, and tonight AC Vanille Insensée. They have similarities in the vanilla department, but Hayan is equal mix patchouli/vanilla, almost gourmand and VI is more citrussy and floral.

Does anyone else read Perfume Posse regularly? If not, you should!

I loved March’s post yesterday (I love all her posts) and I quote:
“as much as it interests me I’ve never decided whether I like it, even though I own and occasionally wear it. (The most perfumista concept ever.)” (regarding her AG Eau de Camille). Isn’t it so true? I have several fragrances that would fit that category.

Doused myself in BDK Gris Charnel Extract and couldn’t smell it at all 10 minutes later. A very harsh opening, as well. Its funny how I found the original so much more well rounded.
I might try layering the two.

I keep thinking of getting a sample of the Gris Charnel Extrait to see if it is any better than the original.

En Passant for the CP today. Lilacs and fresh bread make me think about spring days in Paris!

In L’Artisan Parfumeur Santal because it reminds me of early trips to Paris an ill fated trip to their address on Rue Passage d’Enfer, excitedly thinking that it was a boutique and finding out it was their corporate office (I know I’m not the only one who has done this)🙃

It’s a rainy day, and I chose to wear SDV. I made my son sniff my wrist this morning and he said, oooh, I like it, can I have some?! Last night, he complimented my Aromatics Elixir, I was most surprised by that.

Chilly day today for me! Very glad that I haven’t packed away my heavier wool socks yet.

SOTD = still in No. 19 Poudree. Getting close to thunking the sample! But I have said that before, and it has taken weeks with some particularly stubborn samples.

I thought it was cold today as well! I had to keep checking my watch.

A pesky perfume sample for something you like isn’t so bad though.

I admire your way with samples, I keep forgetting to wear Poudrée and it is so pretty though and the right reason for it.

I have plenty of “unthunked” samples around, so sometimes I feel like one ought to be used up and appreciated.

I also admire your use of samples. I guess it’s easier to use them up when you like something. I have too many that didn’t work out for me.

Oh, I have had my fair share of samples that aren’t my thing. I’ve managed to rehome quite a few of those! But not all of them…

SOTD = Chanel Coco Noir EDP

Love it love it! 💗 Chanel always reminds me of Paris so points for the CP.

In other news, did I mention that managers are being made more aware of people in their teams who have only been in the office 20% or less in the past 3 months? This is adjusting for time off and holidays. This is why I don’t feel so bad when I miss a day here and there I’m not being in the office, just sayin’.

If anyone knows, what is the code to the DSH Bees & Spring Break Flash Sale? Also not sure if it is still going on?
    Thanks!

Monday night after work I ate some leftovers and managed to give myself food poisoning. I spent all of yesterday on the couch thinking I will never eat again! Fortunately today I am feeling better and just had some macaroni and cheese.
I wore a tiny spray of Tiffany Trueste today.
