Consumer preferences in the fragrance market are shifting once more. Cool credentials and heavy marketing spend are no longer enough. Instead, successful fragrances are emphasising innovation, tapping the wellness trend and promoting a commitment to sustainable values.

In the 2010s, celebrity-fronted perfumes and fashion house brands lost ground to a boom in niche perfumery as challenger brands such as Byredo and Le Labo became wildly popular. These brands defied the concept that fragrance giants could simply pay their way onto consumers’ dressing tables.

It’s Tuesday and National Graham Cracker Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I’ve moved 2 steps from Chanel No. 5: yesterday was Boy Chanel, today is The Beat by Burberry Elixir Parfum. Tea at the moment is Upton Dikom Estate Assam + Numi Chinese Breakfast + cacao nibs + sprinkle of nutmeg.

Enhance the volume of odor molecules

An international team of researchers has discovered an incredible way some viruses can alter the smell of their host in order to attract mosquitoes and spread to the next person. The study revealed Dengue and Zika viruses can alter a host’s skin microbiome to enhance the volume of odor molecules that draw in mosquitoes.
