Thursday scent of the day 7/7

Posted by Robin on 7 July 2022 142 Comments

It’s Almost-Friday and World Chocolate Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I’ve moved 5 steps from Chanel No. 5: Boy Chanel -> The Beat by Burberry Elixir Parfum (Dominique Ropion, Olivier Polge and Beatrice Piquet) -> Boucheron Miss Boucheron (Anne Flipo and Dominique Ropion; I probably have some somewhere, but I am not going to wear it) -> L’Artisan La Chasse aux Papillons by Anne Flipo -> L’Artisan Parfumeur L’Eau de L’Artisan by Olivia Giacobetti.

Reminder: on 7/8, for Kevin Bacon’s birthday, we’re doing a variation on six degrees of separation…

Deeper than just a fragrance

That’s what I really loved about Good Fortune when Viktor&Rolf first approached me to work with them. The messaging behind it, it’s deeper than just a fragrance. It’s about your curiosity and your relationship with the universe, and how these little things that we do every single day—from washing our hair to moisturizing to spraying fragrance on our bodies—can really focus you and help bring out your individuality. I really love the effort that has gone even into the bottle, with the amethyst on top. The amethyst stone is traditionally associated with well-being and intuition.

Donatella Versace and her perfume cabinets

Yes, Donatella, Our Lady of Fragranced Forgiveness,1 is busy as ever, but the Met Gala (and her birthday) is over, Chersace is done and dusted, and Britney’s gown is in the bag. She has a free moment now to hear the confessions of her flock. She’d very much like to know what you bought in the 2nd quarter (April, May and June) of 2022.

Note that if you have javascript disabled, you won’t be able to vote in the poll, but you can still record your purchases in the comments.

The daily lemming

Another day, another candle collaboration? Jo Malone has teamed up with Michelin-starred chef Jean-François Piège: "The new Violet Leaf & Bergamot candle celebrates three main notes: steamed rice, violet leaf and bergamot. ‘One of my most beloved cooking smells is the aroma of freshly steamed rice. The rice steam is very special to me. Years ago, in a restaurant I used to own, the kitchen was preparing some rice for the staff lunch, and my office was just above the window. The smell was sensational. It filled the room with an enveloping, warm and comforting aroma. In that moment, I knew this was the welcoming atmosphere I wanted to recreate through my dishes. So today I do the same. To me, rice is one of the most beautiful scents I’ve ever smelt, so it was the starting point for the candle’, states Jean-François." Developed by perfumer Mathilde Bijaoui, £62 at Jo Malone UK.
