DS & Durga The Greatest Cologne of All Time & Roman Fruit Sellers ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 15 December 2022 10 Comments

Indie brand DS & Durga has launched two new limited edition fragrances, The Greatest Cologne of All Time and Roman Fruit Sellers.

The Greatest Cologne of All Time ~ "Cologne is a timeless balancing act of citrus, flowers, & Mediterranean herbs. Since 2009, I've been making and remaking my version of the original cologne formula we all know and love. This is it. A must have for any complete fragrance collection. — D.S." With neroli, bergamot, mandarin, lavender, orange blossom, rosemary, cedrat, petitgrain and copal. $190.

Roman Fruit Sellers (not shown) ~ "I visited Rome in the oppressive July heat with all the other American tourists. One day I was walking through winding ancient streets and came upon the fiore de campo. For 150 years, it has been filled with vendors selling lucious Italian fruits all arranged in beautiful boxes. Color, fragrance, and sweet flavor are everywhere. This fume is that experience. I've never made something so fruity gourmand. I use strawberry, mandarin, and black currant extracts for a wonderful realness. A touch of poplar like the crates that hold the fruits give the base a nice structure too.— D.S." Additional notes include apricot, bergamot, black cherry, violet and "far off incense". $400.

DS & Durga The Greatest Cologne of All Time and Roman Fruit Sellers are available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum.

Wow, that fruit one sounds crazy but inspired, and might be something really fun. But for $400?

They’re sure proud of their fruits & poplar!

The price was a shock. I’m sure there is some reason but I’ve no idea what it is.

That one is in their “reserve” collection, which I think I rarely manage to announce as they’re quick burn and not distributed, and maybe they’re always that expensive.

Really! 😲 A voice from my way-back tapes immediately piped up and said “they’re getting too big for their britches!”

And, putting on my pedantic hat, it’s Campo de Fiori (though fiori de campo is nicely poetic and perfumey). I find the backstory m

😂 I agree. I used to live near Campo de Fiori and it is a nice market, but also quite touristy (which is fine, it’s a nice place after all). However one thing I don’t recall is that it smelled particularly fruity… They sell fruit & veg, yes. It just smells like a farmers market though, except in a Roman city setting (hot stone, bright sun, people etc.). Oh well – if fruity is what he took from there good for him. Just not a story (or scent) that resonates with me, but good if other peeps enjoy it.

Lost my interest in them. Too many fragrances and too pricey.
Then I’m from Rome and I can’t stand FIORI DI CAMPO
      it’s CAMPO DE’FIORI

As if I’d pay $190 for 50 mL of *cologne*, even the best one of all time.
