Indie perfume house Dawn Spencer Hurwitz has launched Sugar Plums, the brand's limited edition fragrance for Holiday 2022. Also new-ish from the brand: Bois de la Jungle, Bois du Désert, Bois Fumée and Emerald Hyrax.

Sugar Plums {Holiday no.22} ~ "A dancing, celebratory plum chypre fragrance with a frangipani heart bouquet, soft cardamom & ginger spices, touches of incense, and delicious gourmand elements in the drydown. How beautiful and festive! This year’s inspiration comes from a perennial holiday favorite “The Nutcracker”. I have long loved this dreamy ballet; especially the dance of the sugar plum fairies. I have to admit that I have long considered this theme (it’s been in my notebook of ideas for years) for the dancing, dreamlike quality that the concept invokes. Sugar Plums is not really all that sweet… instead it is a celebratory swirl of rich plum, delicate spices, warming incense, and a surprising combination of gourmand elements in a classical chypre structure in the drydown. This may sound like a cacophony of elements, but it comes together beautifully to make a true holiday classic." Bois de la Jungle {a rainforest wood scent; Bois series no.1} ~ "Come with us on a journey to the rainforest; to a lush, overgrown jade and emerald that meets the horizon. Broad waxy leaves brush your shoulders as you walk the path and sense the humidity, while flowers blossom boldly in the distance; wafting their perfume melding with subtle oils and exudations from the trees. You breathe it all in. It feels like the beginning of the whole world."

Bois du Désert {Desert Woods :: Bois series no.2} ~ "Out by Joshua Tree, there is an unmistakable fragrance in the air that comes from the dry, sandy woods of the Mojave desert. In the heat of the day, the desiccated limbs from long ago branches release a kind of intoxicating fume, when mixed the scent of the scarlet earth, magic happens. The weathered beauty is haunting… Bois du Desért is that transcendent aroma."

Bois Fumée {a woodsmoke scent; Bois series no.3} ~ "What is it about the scent of an open fire? The fragrance of woodsmoke has been intensely beloved in my memory as far back as I can go. It’s nostalgic (like the cozy warm scent of my grandfather’s house in winter), it’s ancient (our ancestors shared its glow in the dark), it’s romantic (like an intimate moment at the fireside). So, how could we create a wood collection and not include this wonderful scent? Impossible."

Emerald Hyrax {a green retro-nouveau chypre animalic perfume} ~ "As anyone can clearly see, I am (still) deeply obsessed with vintage style (aka Retro-Nouveau) perfumes. And, perhaps, you also know that I have a long-standing love for vintage clothing, imagery, and JEWELRY. With Emerald Hyrax, I feel that two passions have been fused into one creation. Emerald Hyrax takes its inspiration from the material known as ‘Africa Stone’ or “Hyraceum”, as well as the constant stream of lush green stone, vintage brooch images that danced across my imagination while creating this fragrant gem.
