Thursday scent of the day 11/17

Posted by Robin on 17 November 2022 119 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! It's also International Students’ Day and World Philosophy Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm doing pink pepper with L'Artisan Parfumeur Timbuktu.

Reminder: on 11/18, wear a fragrance with a peppercorn note...pink (aka schinus molle or baies rose), black or white.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image is pink peppercorns [cropped & contrast adjusted] by Sheri Wetherell at flickr; some rights reserved.

Lush Garden day 4: Rose Jam, a longtime favourite — roses, but not fresh at all, kind of cooked, and not overly sweet, like this curried apricot conserve I used to make, only roses. I don’t know of anything else like it.

Yep, it’s great stuff! I do go through periods when I am “done” with the shower gel, but eventually I want some again.

I have a small bottle of the Rose Jam shower gel waiting for February. That’s the perfect time of year for it.

I am wearing a perfume oil from last years Alkemia Autumn sample set. Autumn Fields is very pretty. One thing that I love about Alkemia is that their sample sets change every season.

I’m taking CP points again, today with Indochine. Never realized it has a black pepper note until this week, and now I can’t NOT notice it. I guess that’s one of the main purposes of the CP, no — to further train our noses?

Another chilly morning, but we’re up and at ‘em early today after a solid 12 hours of sleep. Feeling sooo rested! Brewing up some blistering hot coffee and a couple slices of sourdough for breakfast as we speak.

Hanging out with SL Cuir Mauresque today from the too tall, too tippy black tower bottle. I like the old school ones better, but too bad for me.

Happy almost Fri (and PAY) YAY! 😃

Not going with the CP today; I am in Kyoto, trying to remind myself to be calm and breathe. Yesterday was a long day, and today will probably be similar. Lots of drama at work, very poorly handled. Just trying to put my head down and muddle through.

Wearing vintage Emeraude pdt this morning and marveling at how well constructed it is. That creamy, sweet yet animalic drydown is really something. I’m lucky to have scored a bottle in such good condition that nary a topnote has gone off, along with a small one of l’aimant.

That all sounds wonderful, but *sweet potato roti* surely would so hit the spot going into this very cold week! Is that a special recipe, or typical homestyle cooking? I don’t remember seeing it in (U.S. Indian) restaurants.

I found a decant of Montale Patchouli Leaves while I was searching for something else. It smells rich and warm and earthy but no pepper.
We got 6” of snow overnight and it’s still snowing lightly, with big wind gusts that blow the snow into mini whiteouts. If there weren’t random leaves still on a few trees, it looks like January.

Sampling Saskia from Grandiflora which has a pink pepper note. It is mostly a gardenia with funk but I have the original Velvet Gardenia for that olfactory slot.

Continuing my iris week lavishly sprayed in Hermes Paprika Brasil.

Kris, answering your question about Hermes Hiris and Iris Ukiyoe, they are not related at all. Hiris is a very beautiful iris scent. It opens with burst of soft aldehydes, followed by powdery violets and a woody drydown. It is a carroty iris scent.
Iris Ukiyoe is a soapy, green watery scent, based on the iris flower. It has some fruity, citrusy vibe. Easy to wear and it doesn’t last much on skin.

Ta’if today for the pink pepper. And lush rosy goodness.

Lightly snowing. I will walk the couple of blocks to work, since we don’t have snow tires on the second car yet. Nagging doesn’t always work…. 😡

Ordered a flannel duvet cover last week from Macys. Put on the bed last night. Don’t know if it’s correlated, but I slept through the night. Then, I saw it was further reduced today so got a price adjustment. Decided to order the Standard Shams to match, since they too were further reduced. Which is dangerous, since I then noticed Frango chocolates on sale. 3 boxes later…..sigh.

Wearing JHAG Lipstick Fever, a blind buy from the Sephora sale (travel size). I don’t love it, but today I don’t hate it as much as I did yesterday. But why do “lipstick perfumes” never smell the way I think of lipstick smelling?

My new NARS lipstick (also from the sale, also a blind buy) is a big “meh,” as well—I got Damage, a sheer, light grape, and will probably return it. I’ve been leaning toward sheer colors this year, but this one doesn’t really suit me.

lol, glad you don’t hate it as much as yesterday. And sorry the lipstick is a meh. Lipsticks are so hard to buy because I can’t really try them on prior to buying, so in a sense they are all blind buys. My favorite sheer is Chanel Boy.

I’m in Fleur de Peau, which does have pink pepper in it I guess. Plus it just smells good.
I had my daughters parent teacher conferences last night and after some initial technical difficulties, they went well. This is the third year in a row that the principal has sent out an email saying that conferences were reserved for those students experiencing academic and/or social difficulties and it’s the third year in a row that said email has @&$%ed me off. Conferences are the one time of year that I can connect with her teachers face to face to hear about what she’s doing well and what she can improve upon. I think EVERY parent deserves that one on one and EVERY student deserves that feedback. Plus, her teachers always seem genuinely happy to see me! Administration needs to stop sending those emails.😤 Ok, rant over.
More snow today. Hard to believe it was almost 50 degrees warmer this time last week!

I think the email is definitely tone deaf. But… (former high school teacher) we were encouraged to specifically contact and try to arrange conferences with parents of struggling students, but had to accommodate all parents who wanted to meet. In Fall 2020, that meant I had 65 google meets parent teacher conferences in one week. It was terrible.

I don’t know how to create a balance to make everyone happy.

But in our district, the HS is still scheduling allotting the same amount of time for fall conferences as they did back when my 26 was in HS and these are simply not the same times. Everything looks different now and the district needs to reassess and schedule in more time for parents and families to connect.😞

I agree with you on the conferences.
      It’s snowing like crazy here.

Growing up my school called in parents of problem children. Mine got called in … I was naughty … although not very at least as far as I assessed myself, but what do I know 🤷🏻‍♀️

Parent teacher conferences used to be just a progress report for every student. I guess crowded classes put an end to that.

I’m in Lush’s Tank Battle today. It’s odd, but it grounds me (possibly the beet?) and I love it.

I slept so well last night that when I woke up this morning, I did not remember what day it was. It took a while for the brain fog to burn off. 😵🥴

Weather has gone from chilly to outright cold. I know, folks in the Midwest and the Intermountain West will laugh at the temps I am complaining about. But there is a chance of snow here in the next 7 to 10 days, which is unusual. It feels like January here, not November. 🥶⛄

SOTD = still more AP L’Agent today.

I think we’re paying for our mild fall. Boo hiss on the snow but I do love it when it is frigid!

SOTD = Chanel 28 La Pausa EDT

    https://www.instagram.com/p/ClFMPQGuKd7/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

No worries because I have BUB! It looks like Chanel may be winning my most bottles thunked. This one has several more wears than the Le Lion although I will say that perhaps only 15mL of 28 La Pausa got decanted for swaps.

If you can see my IG stories but I won’t link to it, I was fascinated by a reel of a horse walking. Supposedly, if you see it walking forward, you’re left brained and if you see it walking backwards, you’re right brained. Most people saw the horse walking backwards which may lead me to form the wrong conclusion about lefties (the ones who saw the horse walking backwards) vs. righties. 🤔

I saw the horse walking backward and I am left-handed. And being left-handed, I should be right-brained, correct?

Yes! And me too! Although maybe certain interests attract a higher proportion of lefties?

My sotd is No.18 from my dabber sample. I’ve been cleaning though so it’s being overpowered by bleach.
I’m trying to not whine about the disgusting snow I am being assaulted with so I will share a stupid conversation I had with the bank teller today.
Me- handing the teller 2 twenty dollar bills and a filled out deposit slip. ” I am depositing $30 dollars ”
Her- ” you mean $40 dollar deposit. You’re giving me $40 dollars.
Me- “no. I would like for you to give me $10 back”
Her- ” oh,” then goes to check on this request with another teller.
    It made me laugh.

If you really want to break people’s brains, try paying with a $2 bill. Some folks don’t believe that those are real currency.

OMG – I was going to say unbelievable but nope!

I don’t have a love for No.18 but I bet it smells really good on some, maybe most people. I am thinking it’s the ambrette seed that’s reminding me of something skanky.
