Wednesday scent of the day 11/16

Posted by Robin on 16 November 2022 115 Comments

Happy Hump Day, with bonus forgotten teapot from Tuesday! It's also the International Day for Tolerance. Birthdays: WC Handy, Chinua Achebe, Diana Krall, Lisa Bonet. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm taking pepper points today in Marni, and after a long weekend of lattes and cappucinos, I'm back to my usual black tea. This morning, it's a mix of leftover chai teas (probably mostly Mariage Frères Chandernagor) mixed with Upton Idulgashinna Estate Organic.

Reminder: on 11/18, wear a fragrance with a peppercorn note...pink (aka schinus molle or baies rose), black or white.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the "Blå eld" Porcelain Teapot by Hertha Bengtson for Rörstrand (Sweden, 1960s), is $500 at 1stDibs (although if you shop around you can sometimes find one for less).

I am wearing one of my favourite perfumes of all time, Paco Rabanne Metal. I am not sure if it has peppercorn note in it, loving it so much. I think it is a masterpiece.
We had the first snow of the season !!

No points for me as my eye caught a small travel size of Dovana from Sylvaine Delacourte. Perfect for the morning after getting our first snow.

Procedure yesterday went fine. Had a nice lunch after, followed by a trip to Target and Costco. The Target had some of the new Marks and Spencer items, and we bought a couple.

Lush Garden, day 3: Pansy. Standard-issue modern floral, rather vague and genderless, warm and comfy at the base. Nothing you’d make your signature scent (because it doesn’t make much of an impression), but it’s nice enough and I’m content to wear it.

It was the time when flea markets was less expensive. Now they are so expensive since retro/vintage style got very popular. I rarely go to markets anymore coz it’s too depressing with their price tags.

It is the same in my area, when I first used to go to flea markets and estate sales they weren’t popular and got so many amazing items with good prices.

It’s really sad because people get greedy now, even with stuff you know ain’t worth the price. It takes the fun out of going to flea markets and estate sales.

It’s simply stunning. The plates and mugs from that line is truly wonderful as well. I miss the time when you could find great bargain at flea markets and estate sales. Now they are so ridiculously priced, that it takes the fun out of it. But once in a blue moon, I do find some great things that are fairly priced, but those items that the seller knows is popular, gets a wild price tag. I know you want to make a profit out of your items, but it’s too much at this point.

I will be CP-compliant in Oeillet Bengale today, when I finally get around to showering and facing the day. Going to be a long one mentally, I think.

Yesterday I wore Altruist by JF Schwarzlose, also for a pepper note that I smelled very briefly, mostly because I only smell the whole perfume very briefly because I have a dabber sample. I hate dabbers, and this one really, clearly need to be sprayed, I think.

That teapot reminds me of the Buddha with his arms raised in joy and gratitude.

I am also joyful and gratified to be off the next two days! Sitting waiting for the frost on my windshield to melt so I can make my escape! There was a crash on a local artery and the day nurse would be “late” due to a 6 mile back up. Nope. No. Not happening. No thank you, I need one of the multiple managers mingling by the coffee pot to take report, please and thank you!

I was getting the stink eye as I left, still wafting the last traces of SL Arabie from yesterday. 🤣

Happy Hump Day to all the M-F folks!

I’m in Essential Parfums The Musc, from a sample. After it arrived I realized I’ve already gone through a sample of this one, lol. It’s pleasant enough and work friendly, but apparently not very memorable.
We got snow here yesterday too. The kind that sticks to the branches, so at least it’s pretty. I’d really rather have the 72 degrees that we had last week back though.

    SOTD is Zoologist Civet.

I promised when I received my samples from Imaginary Authors I would report back on In Love With Everything. I tried it last night and this is my take on it. On me it opened with a burst of citrus then quickly turned sweet like fruit punch. As it dried down a tartness came through, but the sweetness stayed the entire time. Some people are mentioning it is like Pulp without the fig. To me it is more like some of the fragrances put out by Escada, but that is just my opinion. Many of you will find it a fun fragrance. I can see it, but I just tired of it too quickly. I am sure anyone can wear it, but it seemed more for the younger crowd.

Lastly, if you come on JB, please look at my response to you yesterday,

OK-done! Have a good day everyone.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/24/books/review/the-song-of-the-cell-siddhartha-mukherjee.html

Just been woken by the dawn chorus which is earlier and louder these days, and the air is scented with roses and rhododendrons. I am wearing CDG peppermint, a perfect spring scent ( mentha x piperita is the species, meaning peppery). I am reading an interesting book, The Song of the Cell. It’s about cells with enough history and cultural background, and engaging descriptions to ensure it’s fascinating and readable. The author wrote a biography of cancer a few years back that was also really good.

I spent the day in Les senteurs gourmandes Vanille-Abricot but now I am in Lush Frangipani. I have discovere that my bottle of Fragonard Rêve Indien had leaked, very little remains and I’m a little sad, it was such a good alternative to Shalimar. It is a vintage bottle and I’m unlikely to find a replacement.

Claiming points today in Kerosene Wood Haven. I bought a sampler set, which has about a zillion samples in it. The CP this week has been great for trying them.

I’m liking Wood Haven very much, which isn’t surprising. Since I love woody frags. 😁 This one is citrusy on top, and has no sweetness, but it’s very smooth after the initial notes drift away, and it’s not a heavy hitter at all, much more sheer than I had expected.

Robin, you found an exquisite teapot for today❣️
Tea this morning was Upton Holiday Chai. It’s a winner!

Isn’t that gorgeous? I could do a year of mid century teapots.

I will add the holiday chai to my next order, thanks!

Yes, it’s truly beautiful. I would love a year of mid-century teapots! That’s one “yea” vote. 😉

I have only two perfumes that I think of as peppery, TF Noir and Sonia Rykiel Woman. So I turned to Fragrantica and found that Sensuous Nude list pink pepper. I never noticed it, so I will see what develops. I just now spritzed myself.

Apparently pink pepper isn’t peppery at all, but fruity? Or so I have been told.

Yes – this week’s CP is a learning project for me. Fruity, pepper is, and has a rose-aspect?!? Setting aside the power of suggestion, I do discover aspects of favorite perfumes when I read what other NST’ers say about them. My first pepper perfume was Marc Jacobs Bang. That was just. NO, and I got the pepper big time.

Very cool teapot today Robin. It looks like a piece of sculpture.

Mr. Jalapeno was able to see the Artemis launch at Oh Dark Thirty this morning. His stepmom’s house is roughly 45 minutes’ drive away from Cape Canaveral. He said it was a lot quieter than he expected… about the same noise level as a semi truck driving by. But very bright! And he saw the booster rockets separate from the rest of the launch vehicle.

Another chilly but sunny day for me.

SOTD = pushed repeat on AP L’Agent.

He will be heading home after Thanksgiving. Not sure about his exact date of arrival.

He’s in for quite a temperature shock! 🥶

In a teeny, tiny spritz of BR 540, which is good the other person in the office today is not one of the perfume-lovers.

    My sotd is Violet Blonde.
Imo one of the best perfume names.
I’m in the winter storm warning until Saturday morning. I’m off to the grocery store to get a few things that I forgot yesterday.

I had to laugh at myself today. I went to bed last night thinking I wanted to wear Bottega Veneta today. In my half-awake state I put on 24 Faubourg. Both great choices to me, especially since I was the only one around today, so who cares? But amusing to me that I put that much mental effort into it, and was mildly aggravated with myself for going against plan.
