Thursday scent of the day 10/27

Posted by Robin on 27 October 2022 107 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! It's also the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage. Birthdays: Joe Medicine Crow, Dylan Thomas, Ruby Dee, Roy Lichtenstein, Sylvia Plath, John Cleese, Maxine Hong Kingston, Fran Lebowitz. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm racking up geranium points this week! Today, it's Sarah Jessica Parker Covet.

Reminder: on 10/28, wear a fragrance with geranium leaf, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Gorgeous cool, breezy, sunny day! Wearing Chanel No.5 Parfum. I had not worn it in a long time and I had forgotten how beautiful it is!

    Happy almost Friday! 🌞

Welp, I found the pumpkin oat milk at TJ’s yesterday and had it with brown sugar, cinnamon, banana, all mixed in a bowl of steaming oatmeal! Delish😋 Thanks for the heads up. I don’t know if you’re a granola person, but if you haven’t tried Purely Elizabeth pumpkin cinnamon granola yet, do yourself a favor and give it a try. I only buy that variety at this time of year because it a little (a lot) spendy. Tonight I’m having Harvest Chili with Pumpkin for dinner…🎃

I am so glad you found and like the Pumpkin Oatmeal! It is really good! I have tried the Purely Elizabeth Cranberry Pecan granola and I liked it a lot. I have not tried the Pumpkin Cinnamon yet, so here I go to order one bag online right away. Thank you for the tip! I will report back! 🎃

    Good morning.
Sotd is Bottega Veneta. My bottle is ooold and I am surprised at how well the juice is holding up. I remember years ago they used to have a parfum version in a gorgeous bottle. I wonder if they still make it.
Tea is lavender Earl Grey and eating some digestive biscuits.

    Happy Thursday/Friday!

I’m channeling summer in Geranium pour Monsieur. I must admit that I’m enjoying the autumnal glow through the changing colors of the leaves and scuttling through those that have fallen. I think we’ll also be blessed with sunshine all day and it might be close to 70 yay!

Good morning, all! The sun is back here, after two days of rain and drizzle. Yesterday afternoon, it had tapered to a fine mist, and as I was out with my dog standing under a blazing red maple which had shed most of its leaves to make a carpet underneath, the light was so good beautiful that I felt my felt my heart contract. It’s all the lovelier for knowing that it won’t last long. ❤️

And Happy Birthday to Dylan Thomas, that “prince of apple towns.”
    https://poets.org/poem/fern-hill

Every fall, I get a hankering to wear my vintage JLScherrer, and today’s the day. I could see it having a geranium note, but it isn’t listed, so I will add a spritz of Diptique Geranium Odorata to garner points today. I would never have guessed how many frags contain geranium! Yesterday I was too busy commenting to mention my point-earning SotD, which was L’eau d’Ambre. What a surprise!

Tea today is Upton New England Holiday Chai with Vanilla. It’s my favorite pre-blended chai tea so far. Ordering more. Like I need more. Just like with perfume, lol!

It’s unseasonable warm here in NS, and I’m wearing Goutal’s Myrrhe Ardente. I love this scent, and I have the matching body cream. I loved that Goutal made creams and body washes to match all their products. The creams were so good for the skin, too. Hope everyone has a relaxing day as we ease into the weekend 🙂

Apparently we’re in the middle of another “atmospheric river”. I’m not loving this seemingly new aspect of fall; I’d never heard the term before last year’s floods. Here’s hoping the ground can absorb all the rain falling on it.

SOTD will be Azemour, once I get moving.

I’m going to join the Azemour crowd and am glad to have a reminder to wear this. I remember reading somewhere that the smell of orange evokes happiness and Azemour is a perfect example🍊

On a non geranium note, and for the indolic jasmine lovers out there, I just discovered Panier des Sens Jasmine soap. It has just the right floral/indolic balance to my nose.

No sleep at all last night. 4am and I was 😵‍💫 wide awake. So annoying.

I rolled on up to my usual park today and noticed as I drove in one of “my people,” who looks to be dwelling in his 4 Runner. Emptied le toilet and trash, and then drove further into the park so I wouldn’t crowd anyone. T-Rex was On Duty apparently, because a few minutes after we put it in park, up ambles the vehicle dweller. About 70 or so, slight, jeans, check cowboy shirt, baseball cap, and a beard in need of a trim. T-Rex gave him notice. No growling or anything overtly rottweiler-ish. She becomes very still and focused, which is saying a lot for a very kinetic doggo! Anyway, I noticed her stillness and followed her laser beam eyes as they watched his every move. He’s angling towards me, so when he’s about 20’ away I roll down my window and ask him, “Can I help you?”

No, no, I couldn’t help him with a thing but he just wanted to let me know my brake light on the right rear was out, but the reverse light was working ok. He didn’t want me to get in “a fix, because people drive around and never know unless someone tells them.”

Just when I’m ready to kick humanity to the curb, a wonderful soul like that moseys up and warms the cockles of my cold heart! ♥️ I wonder how long that light’s been out? Anyway, ordered bulbs from Amazon and will fix it after they arrive tomorrow.

I’m still commando and very undecided. I’m leaning towards the Elephant, but that one does require commitment because it’ll be wafting until I shower. Cool and very breezy, no smoke at all and I see blue sky. But then, DSH Chinchilla is perfect for a day like today…

Was the wind crazy down there? I woke up early this morning and thought my spouse had gotten out of bed and was moving around, but turns out the wind had blown the bedroom window wide open and the shade and curtains were blowing around.

Very gusty here! I just moved the van out from under a tree into the open for fear of a branch coming down.

He was a very nice gentleman! Told me it was easy to replace the bulb, he was quite sure that’s all I would need to do. Tipped his hat to me as he turned back to his SUV.

Quite a cool wee piece about where to start with Plath.
Sylvia Plath was born in 1932 so I’m wearing some 1990s Tabu which, according to Fragrantica, was created in 1932. Both kind of shocking for their time. The movie Sylvia was partly filmed down here, our university stood in for Cambridge, and the beach down the road was Cape Cod. It was all very glamorous. And, naturally, James Bond ( Daniel Craig ) stood in for Ted Hughes, and Gwyneth Paltrow for Plath ( pre Gloop).

I will wear Azemour tomorrow for the CP, but today I’m in Wazamba thanks to a lovely NSTer. Slept until 8:30 again today, so my immune system seems to be continuing its absorption of the covid booster.

In answer to AnnE’s question yesterday, Mr. G and I both had much more shoulder soreness with the “regular” covid shots than we’re experiencing with the booster. So far, the Mr. isn’t having my fatigue (if it can be called that) symptom either. I suppose my heavy sleeping could be a reaction to having had to respond to the garage mishap fallout — driving a loved one to the ER, and then forcing oneself to remain calm and patient through the inevitable waiting, is stressful. So hopefully you will also have minimal symptoms from the booster!

Question on Tonya Imperiale please. Do we think it was reformulated with the most recent bottle changes? I assume the worst with bottle changes. 😅

I tried a new sample from Guerlain and enjoyed it but thought the sillage and longevity were a bit lacking.

If I hunt down a bottle I am wondering if I should seek the older bottle. Curious if anyone has compared the most recent version to the older please.

To me it smells pretty much the same, but I haven’t done a full side by side wearing of both of them. I have seen many comments on the Guerlain fb group saying the new bottles lack maceration and need to be left to mature for 6-12 months before wearing.

I have not sniffed the latest bottles, but just wanted to chime in to say that I have the old bottle, about 3 years old, and it’s never been that strong on me. Sillage is detectable but on the moderate/soft side, and longevity also middling. I hope this helps!

Wearing n22 parfum today. Just dabbed a little on, so planning to re-up later on if needed. It is purring along nicely.

Robin, these are the incense matches I have https://incensematch.com/

The sandalwood is a chocolately, smooth sandalwood, almost edible. I’ve also tried and liked Musk, Oriental Blosson, Goddess of Egypt, Francinsense, Potpourri, and Coconut. The only one I haven’t liked is Coconut, but I don’t really like coconut smelling things so no surprise there.

I’ve bought from their ebay store a few times, so that I don’t have to buy 50 at once, but that way I can pick my flavors.

I’m wearing Narciso Rouge today and putting up pictures. I always have to measure multiple times to get something centered, I don’t know why. I’m also considering painting a chevron pattern on the wall behind the bathroom sink. YouTube videos make it look easy but I’m pretty sure it’s not.

Are you wanting an “accent” wall? I was just on Amazon browsing, as you do, and I found some of the most beautiful wall tiles, the trim, peel, and stick variety. I’m personally enthralled by this MOP, which uses REAL MOP, sliced thinly so you can still make the needed cuts to fit around anything and everything. But this type of tule has become so sophisticated because they’re using metallic elements, and real stone, marble, etc., but cut precision thin. This is in my cart, although I have no idea why since I can’t put it anywhere…😁

No points – but smelling fine – in Bengale Rouge today.

Feeling grateful for having a beautiful fall this year. My region typically goes from summer to winter with not much in between. I suppose it’s global warming, though … 🙁

Smelling like a caramel apple today in a sample of Thameen’s Peregrina.

Today’s tea (technically a tisane) was Clipper Ship’s Roasted Almond, which has a nice apple note to go with the Peregrina.

For the CP: vintage Tocade. I love the scent and the wacky Serge Mansau bottle. It’s quite rosy, which is it seems, often the partner for geranium notes. Anyhoo: I am glad for an excuse to wear it. I also have the 2013 version in the Rochas “Femme” bottle. It is lovely too. We are getting another week of mild weather; sunny but cool. Off to read comments so as to find a Friday scent.

I thought today was Friday for way too long today. I was going to say I didn’t do the cp. Lol.
My sotd is Chance eau Vive just because I love it.

It could be difficult to wear something that is CP compliant tomorrow, because I like Wrappings that much!

It’s been a really busy week with my parents visiting and lots going on, but I have been racking up CP points, just not commenting.

Today I wore Boy, and earlier in the week Perris Monte Carlo Rose de Taif. I realized I have a lot of geranium scents because it’s in a lot of rose scents!

Hope you’ve had a nice visit with your parents, and yes, rose is always a likely suspect! That, and lots of lighter men’s fragrances.

SOTD = Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille

It’s my Friday! Zero points for the CP and I won’t be wearing any remarkable perfumes tomorrow as we are traveling to PA for my niece’s wedding. We are staying overnight and no, I haven’t packed yet!

I had an unpleasant encounter on the train coming home. My stop is one of the larger stops and I usually end up waiting until the train comes to almost a full stop before getting up from my seat. I usually get a seat next to window on a 3-seater, which means that if there is anyone sitting on the aisle seat, they will have to get up so I can get out. Eager beaver decided to get up when we were almost 2 minutes away and when I looked, I saw the aisle was crowded and there was no room for me. The guy sat back down with a hmmmph and decided not to get up when the train stopped – he did the I’m tiny so you can just sidle past me. As I do with this type of person, I just say he needs to get up because I won’t fit. He got all high and mighty and said I should have gotten up when I could but he saw murder in my eyes and got up. I then turned to him and asked him “What are you?” He thought for a few seconds and said he’s a human being. So I shot back and said he could have fooled me. Seriously, people need to chill!

      2. I was nervous for you reading about your encounter. Good for you for standing up for yourself.
      3. Have a great time at the wedding!

I’ve been racking up the points this week too and tonight I’m in Boy. Yesterday was Une Rose, more on that tomorrow or over the weekend since it’s late, and I’m sure few are still reading. I’m about to have tomato bisque and grilled cheese for dinner while watching a fun, spooky Spanish 70s movie, The Werewolf and the Yeti.

I thought of you today when I saw Boy on the list of geranium perfumes since I know it’s a favorite of yours. Of course you smell fabulous😊

And you’ve got me curious about the Une Rose story…

Aww, thanks! I needed something easy to wear today so I dabbed a little on, and it made me happy. Now post evening shower I’m in DSH MaccaBees.

So the story with Une Rose is that I was thinking about swapping it but wanted to give it another try. Except I discovered my travel spray won’t spray anymore, and it’s basically full. I was able to eke out some drops but it’s messy and you basically have to disassemble the atomizer pieces. And after all that, I found it doesn’t really do it for me so I don’t want it but can’t swap it broken. So I’m giving it away as a freebie. I believe you’re a fan – are you interested?

Yes! Thank you! I’ll email you.

I have a similar situation with a pack of IUNX Talc refills that I bought, thinking they were like the FM travel sprays (don’t need the FM travel case to work). So now I’m using the sprayer from the full bottle to use the refill. The things we do for perfume!
