Serge Lutens Fourreau Noir, intoxicatingly delicious black licorice. (And licorice isn’t even mentioned in the notes, because it’s supposed to be a lavender scent, but it doesn’t smell like that to me AT ALL, at least no lavender I’ve ever encountered.) I love it so much I have the bell jar *and* the Vapo Tour Noir, which is overkill, but the good kind of overkill.

I am burning Lush’s Snow Fairy candle (large size). I am sad to say I am a little disappointed… The candle itself does smell of SF but not strong. Once lit, there is barely any throw.
So disappointing when the throw isn’t good. My husband bought me a Santa Maria Novella candle once. Total waste.

THAT is a fascinating link! I mean, if people can’t smell Yankee Candle, then they definitely can’t smell. I can’t even walk past that place (or BBW) in a mall without wanting to flee from the synthetic scent cacophony. Too too much, at least for me.
4160 Tuesdays Babylon Sunset. This is one of my sampled-first success stories. When I went seeking a FB, I pruchased an older one under the Says Alice name. I could not tell a difference between it and the Babylon Sunset sample. It’s super-fruity with musk, which I love. A very happy perfume that has some surprises along the way. I don’t know if I’ve tried any other of Sarah McCartney’s creations. Must go dig among the samples. Glad to be reminded of Art Tatum. Here’s a clip of him. Now, aren’t these people having fun?

How do you like Slow Explosions? I don’t believe I have tried that one yet.
I really like it. I won my bottle through a drawing on Cafleurbon years ago, and I’m tempted to say that a travel spray would be enough for me but my bottle is half empty, so maybe not. I get the rose, saffron and smooth leather with an apple note around the edges. It reminds me of L’Artisan Traversee du Bosphore but I think it’s easier to wear. Lasts all day.

I’m wearing Earth Mother from Dame Perfumery. It suits this rainy day and my vibe.
On our walk this morning, my dog and I shattered our previous record for frog spotting. We saw 13 frogs! I hope they have a safe place to stay warm – we are supposed to hit freezing temperatures at night starting next week.
I have been thinking about purchasing Earth Mother. How do you like it?
I love it! As soon as temperatures go below 70 I pull it out. It’s potent though – I only wear two sprays if leaving the house. (Today I have no plans to go anywhere, so I’m wearing 4 sprays.).

That is amazing! I remember coming across some salamanders under a rock once , in the snow in Switzerland when I was looking for morels and I thought they were dead so I picked one up ( I had never seen a salamander before in my life) and was amazed when it started to move. I put it back right away and hope it was okay.
Isn’t it? Their hearts stop! Now I have to research salamanders. I’ve never seen one in the wild.

Staring at the leaves in our back woods. Glorious color. I had wanted to take a ferry to a nearby island on Monday, but my husband will be gone. Oh well. I’ll drive around the peninsula and take photos.
Seeing Manhattan Transfer tomorrow night. Should be fun. Then next Saturday is Marty Stuart. Best part is, since COVID levels are at Low here, no masks required. Yay!

There are other terrific K-dramas, but I must say that My Mister is the other best one. It’s both melancholy yet occasionally very funny and it just sets a mood that won’t leave you. I might even like it more than Stranger, because the hero is more human.

I’m only wearing a rose hydrosol facial spritz while at work, but later on I’ll move on to Petrichor by Marissa Zappas. That and Lilac Dream are my favorites from the line.

Re: freezing shower – I am on a quest to remove stressors, not for any particular reason but stressors stress me out. This is one of them. The other recent thing I stopped doing is Wordle.
That is interesting…Wordle (and Worldle, which is geography) are relaxing to me. If I am stressed at night I will just sit and do the repeatable “Hello Wordle” over and over, it clears my mind.
If you consider that I got stressed out the 2 times I took yoga, my Wordle stressor may not be so unusual.
I got so stressed by my Tai Chi class that I had to stop after three weeks!

Petrichor sounds intriguing. I’ve tried doing…barely lukewarm…showers, in a Wim Hof vein, and I did find them invigorating, but that may have been the breathing I had to do to get through them. 🙂 I know someone who went to a Wim Hof retreat recently, and need to connect with her to find out how it went.
I think a retreat sounds like a good idea, as I’ve learned that not everyone can get on board with the concept. 🤣
I’m in Goutal Chevrefeuille, which I’m enjoying a lot. I was away from my collection for a week, and of course, this is the craving that cropped up! Now that I’m home, I’ll enjoy it for a bit.
Season report: I drove from east central Illinois up to the Chicago suburbs yesterday, and the fall color is impressive! We’re having a good autumn on that front. Even the roadsides along the interstate are looking good. I’m heading down to Shawnee National Forest next week, and keeping my fingers crossed for good weather and color!

Oh no! We had smoke for over a week up here in Vancouver, but it cleared out with the front on Tuesday. Today is a bit hazier than yesterday, though — may be coming back.

I’m a “no pointer” again in Chergui. It’s been forever since I wore this and it’s absolutely hitting the spot on this chilly morning. It was a toss up because Un Bois caught my eye first, but the draw of Chergui would not be denied.
Feeling fully alive after what seems like days of sleep. I think I read somewhere that sleep deprivation was one of the most effective tortures that we Homo sapiens imaginatively discovered in order to break down other Homo sapiens. What a grand tribe we are! Lol! I know I would cough up all top secret info if I wasn’t allowed to close my eyes. Napping and sleeping are a two of my favorite low impact exercises!
In the spirit of fall, I bought gingerbread creamer for my coffee and it’s not half bad. I also had to put a fleece on Baby T this morning before sending her out to potty and she hasn’t forgotten the routine: jump off the bed, sit nicely on the bench so the old hooman doesn’t have to bend over, and politely lift a paw so as to facilitate the operation, then put that foot down, lift the other, then stand on the bench to enable the zipper to be fully zipped and the whole ensemble adjusted so it sits with fur smoothed underneath for optimal comfort. Finally, wag the tail and smile to show the hooman your approval and appreciation. Love my little doggo! 🥰

I was listening to Bjork’s new album which got me thinking about celebrity scents and who I would have on my celebrity perfume wish list. This was also influenced by wearing Art Meets Art I put a Spell on you ( fairly basic lemon scent ) – the company matches scent to music. Which living celebrity ( from any field ) would you like to see work on a perfume, and who would be the perfumer. I think Werner Herzog , Bjork, Anne Carson, Mary Beard, Piet Oudolf, as a start could provide an interesting range…quite hard to stop at ten.

I love Pink Floyd — Wish You Were Here is a great one, as is Dark Side of the Moon. It’s weird, because I was very young in the ’70s, just into school by the end, but somehow those albums just encapsulate the ’70s vibe from my childhood in my head. (The Wall is a different issue — it was huge among us misfits in my late ’80s high school and has too much to do with teen angst for me to say it’s ’70s…for me. Also my mom, a teacher, went on an anti-Pink Floyd crusade in reaction to The Wall when I was little.)
Finished up the little decant of Rose Barbare (spellcheck wanted it to be Rose Barbecue), so I’m not getting any points at all…and I’m okay with that. 😊

I went for leather scents today, Etro Royal Pavillon which has beautiful floral notes, Lillyjo would define it as perfumey, and tonight EL Azurée, I fell in love with it at EL counter, it’s not vintage or anything but it’s reminding me of vintage Cabochard edp which I treasure, I will have to do a comparison.
Current Azuree smells wonderful – you will too!

Etro is scarce as hen’s teeth in the US it seems. The usual discount retailers I check out have almost none anymore. Pity.
Azuree is so freaking good! I have a bottle that’s about 10 years old or so.
OsswaldNYC has Etro although I believe the line is being phased out there. 40% off, not to enable or anything of that nonsense.

I’m giving Sacred Scarab another serious try today. I just have a Luckyscent sample and it didn’t wow me before. I resolved to be serious about it and drenched my arm. Oooh, is it rich in that Sultan Pasha way, with real structure and depth. I got civet at the start and now the plum is making me swoon. So much in here! I’m more of a convert. I’m earning CP points if not extra ones.
That Icelandic actor from Trapped ( the policeman) is in an Australian tv series thriller called The Tourist which also stars Jamie Dornan, set in an outback town. The show starts well, goes a bit silly but good enough. And, I finally finished the Stranger. It was great. Thank you.

Yeah, plan to be down for day or two, if my experience is any indicator. It was worse with the Moderna bivalent than with the Pfizer (2 doses) and regular Moderna (1 dose).
It can’t be a fail if it ends with a clean garage!

I’m wearing Marigold from be Scent Trunk’s Original Editions line for double points. They launched their perfumes in 2019, and this particular one is from 2020. I’ve had more hits than misses with this line, but I do especially like this one by Tanais, the Coriander that DSH created, and the Treemoss that Maya Nice did. Currently thinking of buying the Twilight Trio that includes 5ml each of their newest, Gurjun Balsam, plus Labdanum and Black Hemlock.
Yesterday I took my new bottle of Shalimar MT for a spin (thanks, cazaubon!) and loved it. A very enjoyable marriage of Shalimar and Guerlain’s tonka-prominent perfumes. I loved the shimmery coumarin pastry opening and the dry down was reminiscent of Tonka Imperiale and Cologne du 68. Happy to have a bottle!
