It’s Hump Day, National Pulled Pork Day (we celebrated last night) and Freethought Day. Birthdays: Ann Petry and Sam Moore. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in the early burnt sugar phase of Kerosene Sweetly Known.
Reminder: 10/14 will be Indie / Nouveau Niche Friday...wear a fragrance from an indie / niche brand. Extra points if it was launched after the last time we did this project in 2019. (We've done several of these projects in the past, too.) Adapted from a suggestion by hajusuuri.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Volunteering today
EL double wear and Dior eye shadow
Still on my Shalimar Tonka kick-even though I am volunteering today I will do multiple sprays since the last power is a New York minute 😛
Changed my mind,
Will do Love Extreme today
Hope your shift goes well and that you picked the perfect fragrance 🙂
Wore Memoirs of a Trespasser at bedtime last night (Mr. G did too!), and this morning I’m wafting Indochine. Both too old (I mean the perfumes, not the Mr. and me … although we are definitely old) for extra points, but both are indie favorites around here.
Your bed must smell great now!
House twins!
House twins too!
Halston Catalyst for Men, a very late-eighties (although it dates from 1994) amalgamation of pretty much every single men’s-fragrance family, but mostly warm clovey goodness. A classic.
Hello!
Sotd is Viktor Rolf Good Fortune.
Yep, not for me. 😂 Smells shampooy and somewhat artificial.
And here they already did shampoo with Eau Mega 😉
Between your review and what lillyjo said about it, I am not going to look for that V&R scent. Sounds like I ought to give it a pass.
Wearing Iris from Atelier Bloem from a swap with a wonderful NSTer today. Lovely, not too sweet Iris that works on this back to warm weather day.
Homemade granola and Greek yogurt for brekkie and oolong tea. If I drink oolong first thing, I rationalize to myself that I can have a little more caffeinated tea for the early afternoon slump. 😉🫖
Good point on the oolong!
In Olympic Orchards Kilauea (2019) for double CP points but I much prefer her Carosello from 2018.
What we do for double points!
I am wearing Guerlain SDV, working today .
You smell great!
I had to drive a friend early this morning so forgot to put on perfume. I must say I cannot get to this site every morning but, when I do come back it is like snuggling into a old fuzzy blanket. Nice articles, polite commenters, and lovely topics. Thank you.
It’s a special corner of the internet, for sure 😊
NST is a balm for the soul, definitely.
I’m so chilled this morning I’m sitting here with the heat on. I had a patient w/ RSV a couple nights ago and I sure hope these chills don’t mean I picked it up. Or it might just be PTSD from another horrendous night. 13 hours, not a single break. All Covid patients. Again!
I noticed Costco is hiring for remote positions and I’m pretty sure I could do the job, whatever the job may be. I need to find a hooman like T-Rex has found. I’d get belly rubs and ear scritches all the time, expensive kibble twice a day, free healthcare and meds, travel to exciting locals, and get delish treatos for just being adorable. I want that life! 😁
Headed for a shower then I’ll be wearing something warm and cozy like Taklamakan or Ummagumma…and pass out between my fleece sheets…😴
Hopefully you all will have a lovely day, filled with sunshine, perfect temps, winning lottery numbers, pleasant perfumes, and a hooman to give you nice belly rubs. 😉
Deva-
Where are you at where there are so many Covid patients? Our numbers seem to be going down in the Midwest some, but I don’t foresee Covid going away entirely. My husband and I just got the new booster a few weeks ago. I hate to even say it, but I feel like I am the only person that I know that hasn’t had Covid.
Washington, Seattle area. Half the unit was Covid. 😩
And meant to add I was floated to M/S, so I had six. I sent one to a higher level of care for additional resp support, but the other five swabbed positive when admitted for various other reasons and were not symptomatic. Other than two, all were from some type of congregate living facility.
Yes, it really is quite hard on the elderly.
I hope you manage to keep away the chill and stay fit so you can continue to always open doors, pick up and throw gloopy tennis balls, share the last mouthful of any piece of food ( except chocolate and onion rings) and make room in bed for those more needy of warmth and space ( despite your 13 hour shifts) … good luck, do it for T-Rex!
Oh, golly, how awful to be dealing with all that, and for such long hours. I really hope you get rested up and don’t catch anything. Thank you for hanging in there and helping people. It’s scary.
Hope you get a good sleep and ward off the plague!
Chanel 1957 with my new, Pink Floyd hoodie. Classy hippie? Perhaps:).
You look and smell great!
Thx:).
My daughter whom is 7 yrs old, sported a Pink Floyd Tshirt over the weekend
Nice:). At that age, I would have loved a Blondie shirt lol. I got the vinyl of hers at that age lol. It was a very much requested Christmas gift.
Quite classy!
Sampling Pieces of October from Death and Floral which I’m liking quite a bit. Earliest reviews of any Death and Floral scents seem to go back to spring of 2020 so I think I’m firmly in project territory.
I am doing something very scary this weekend– I will be renting and solo driving a car this weekend. My driving lesson will bring me up to Boulder today but then I’ll be on my own for getting to and from my hotel and workshop. I only got my actual driving license last week and this will be my first time solo driving. My inlaws church prayer group is praying for me….
Good luck with your driving. Just take it easy and don’t get flustered if people get impatient with you while you get your bearings in a new town. I bet you will be great and drive like a pro.
And if there are impatient drivers who are flustering/annoying you, there is no shame in pulling over for a minute so they pass you.
Good luck with driving in Boulder!
Bon courage!
The planets are shining brightly and it is very still outside. Yesterday the three eggs in the blackbird’s nest in our lemon tree under the deck all hatched and I caught a glimpse of the newborns. They looks like human thumbs with eyes, so bald and vulnerable. It takes around two weeks until they fledge and I am quite anxious about their chances as all our neighbours have hunter cats that roam around and the nest is just outside our gate. Hopefully, the cats will stay away as they associate our fenced area with cat-chasing dogs which might extend a little. I have been feeding the adult blackbirds apples so they have an easy source of supplementary food. Both female and male sit on the eggs but from watching I think the female does more sitting , while the male does more feeding. He is looking shiny and in great health, whereas she is a bit thin and scraggly. Birds that have been fed over winter tend to nest earlier so I’m hoping we don’t get more snow or rain. Two hours to sunrise and wearing Sunset Hour for the CP.
Hope the babies get to achieve adulthood.
Good vibes for the babies!
How sweet! I look forward to progress reports on their growth 🙂
SOTD is Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection. It smells nice on this nice cool day.
Great pick!
Rest in peace Angela Lansbury!
I grew up watching Murder She Wrote, she was such a cool character that Jessica Fletcher!
SOTD!
Reine du Volcan, from Wick Fragrances. My absolute favorite from the brand, with vetiver and the weirdly but utterly wonderful sesame oil note!
And funnily enough,Wick celebrates 3 years in existence on October 19th,which is perfect for the cp!
XO’s🌹✌🏻
I’m sad that I didn’t get to try any of the Wick fragrances. Reine du Volcan sounds right up my alley.
I think you would have LOVED Reine du Volcan and Fabulous Human. They’re working on international shipping and recently launched in the UK.
I’m sad on YOUR behalf as they are even based in Cape Town with a cool shop!
Hmm…will be in London in December…
I meant to say RIP Angela Lansbury this morning and totally forgot! Thanks J.
Points but not double points the last few days. Yesterday I work Champaca, and today I’m trying Smell Bent Incensed. Incensed is interesting — hadn’t really thought of pairing incense and vanilla. In the drydown I’m now sitting in a cloud of vanilla, but when I sniff my wrist I still get the incense and a bit of rubber.
*wore* — it wasn’t much work!
I liked SB Incensed too. Still too warm to wear it here.
Wearing Amouage Beloved today. Turns out that my mother hates Coromandel and doesn’t like too many of my frags but she wears tons of Dolce and Gabbana and I don’t like anything from Dolce and Gabbana. On my way to Costco for groceries.
Heh! What were the chances of you and your mom liking / hating opposite things???
Happy Hump Day, everyone! It’s nice to be back after a busy spell.
I had several samples from Providence Perfume Co. that had been waiting forever for me to try, so today’s entry is Heart of Darkness. I quite like it, even though I keep getting a hint of incense. It’s not listed in the notes, so I dunno, but oak moss, cedar, labdanum, and coffee are definitely there. It’s not as dark as the name suggests, and it wears softly. Definitely worth exploring more!
It doesn’t match todays weather here, for which I’m grateful. It’s a perfect October day here, sunny, mild, and breezy. I’m enjoying it while I can can! 🍁☀️🎃
Welcome back! It’s always nice to see a regular return.
Thanks, Jalapeno! 🤗
Waves to AnnE! I like PPC.
Hey, Robin! 👋🏻
I’m going to keep exploring them.
🙂
I went very niche last night with Francesca Bianchi Lost in Heaven, and also quite niche today with the gold heart from Map of the Heart.
Excellent!
Those cupcakes look great, Robin! I’m CP-compliant in HG Slowdive today (no bonus points, though). This smells as good in the fall as it does in summer: beehive vibes are replaced in cooler weather by candle vibes.
So, I ordered the Mango LUSH body wash a week or two ago, along with some bath bombs and Sticky Dates to get that free shipping, and yesterday, I received a bewildering LUSH package. It has a couple of the things I ordered, but not all…and then a few things I didn’t order. The packing slip has my order on it, though, and my name is both on the inside and the outside of the box. I reached out and should be getting the remaining items in my order soon (and they did not suggest I should ship back the things I received that I didn’t order, so yay, free stuff!), but what a confusing mix-up this was. Anyway, will report back on the Mango scent when I get my correct order. Meanwhile, I can tell you that while Blood Orange smells weirdly Pepto Bismol-y/medicinal at first, it turns into a really nice orange scent once lathered. The Pepto Bismol note really lingers on your skin long after all orange notes go away, though.
Pepto-Bismol does not sound good. It makes you wonder what they were thinking when they packed your order? This is why I prefer to pick up from a place nearby (like Nordstrom) when I order something. Did you get Sticky Dates in this package?
Ah yes, but I’m lazy and won’t drive, so if I can’t bike to it, I’d rather order online! (Or bug my husband to take me.)
The sticky dates hasn’t arrived yet, but I have high hopes it’ll arrive in the next package!
Oh my, how odd. I think I will have to do an in person Lush visit anyway then, as Blood Orange does not sound like a sure thing.
Oh jeez, what a weird mixup. But yay for free surprise products. Hopefully they’re things you’ll like. Blood Orange sounds disappointing, so I think I’ll pass on that and on the Mango that ockeghem recently reported on.
This week’s CP has me sampling through a few Imaginary Authors that are new to me and today it is Falling into the Sea. What a pretty, pillowy citrus. I really don’t get any sea notes — no saltwater or seaweed. It is more like walking on sandy dunes higher up on the beach where lemon trees and dune prickly pears are blooming.
Drinking F&M Countess Grey today and sneaking cuddle time with kitties who are warm from sleeping in a sunny spot.
Sunbeam-warmed kitty cuddles are so awesome! 😻😻
That’s a nice description. I’m almost positive I have a sample…
Heretic Dirty Coconut. Points all around for this one (launched in 2021). Home from another Dr. appt + yearly blood draw and then garden store (one of my happy places and a nice treat after the doc). I’m kind of done going to the doctor and being poked. But that said, of course, I will still get my immunizations.
Gorgeous sunny day and *not* smoky – yay!! Heading out to dig in my garden soon.
Getting poked is not high on my list of favorite things either. 😖
Good to hear that the smoke cleared out from your vicinity!
Taking full CP points for Imaginary Authors Fox in the Flowerbed, both the oil and perfume. It’s so pretty.
My mother fell over a chair on Monday and hit her forehead on the wood, raising a golf ball-sized lump and a spectacular black eye. She is fine but in need of some extra TLC. The paramedics were amazed at how well she’s doing at 95, that made me feel good. She was wearing Bill Blass Nude.
ringthing, I’m so glad your mother did not break any bones or sustain concussion! 🤗
That BB Nude is so pretty.
Me too, it could have been so much worse.
A kind NSTer sent me the bottle of Nude, I gave mom the bottle and kept a decant for myself 🙂
Glad you mother’s okay! Thanks for the reminder on Fox in the Flowerbed…need to pull that out.
Thanks. The Fox is like a breath of fresh air!
So sorry to read this. Hope she heals quickly!
Thank you Koyel.
Scary! Glad to hear that your Mom is mostly OK.
Thanks Jalapeno!
Oh, wow! Glad she is ok.
I was thinking of wearing Fox in the Flowerbed on Friday.
I might wear it Friday, too.
Glad your mom is okay and smelling good!
Thank you!
Gosh, so glad she did not break anything. And we are “mom falling over on Monday” twins! My mother tripped on a package in her foyer (Amazon problems again!) and her wrists and knee are black & blue.
Her apple watch did ask her if she had fallen, so that is good…it was the first real test of the function.
I thought I might get extra CP points from Vilhelm Mango Skin but it seems that company was launched awhile back, in 2015. I really like this scent. True it’s quite fruity with an up-front realistic mango note, very juicy, but there’s really more going on here. Lots of florals and a fair amount of pepper (I was thinking some other spice like cinnamon but none such is listed), and a few other things that make it just a more interesting fragrance. When Nancyleandros and Coumarin and I went shopping last Friday we tried a lot of the Vilhelm scents, and I liked a lot of them. Coumarin pointed out that the bottles are very awkward though and hard to store or display. It’s too bad they are quite expensive. I think we were all taken with Black Citrus. I sprayed some on skin and felt it lasted very well. It’s definitely citrusy but has something unusual too it, a bit smokey and dark. I’ll definitely try these again next time I go there to poke around.
The bottles are definitely designed with a particular customer in mind, namely someone who has a row of them, and no other bottles. At all.
Some of them do come in travel spray size.
I put on some TF Patchouli Absolu this morning and went to the grocery store. Now Bertie Wooster is on my lap and I am reading about how to paint with acrylics. The book is stupidly basic and that is just what I need!
Gosh, I have not painted with acrylics since I was a teen, what a great project!
Enjoying Amouage Portrayal today, my husband commented how strong it is. 🙂 That’s what I love about it. Like an amped up Jasmin et Cigarette.
Uh oh. That sounds tempting since Jasmin et Cigarette isn’t strong (enough) for me…
For the CP, Andy Tauer’s Phtaloblue – a surprise love! I’m finally giving it a try, after getting a lovely gifted mini from Tauer Perfumes along with some other purchases. At the time, I gave it a cursory sniff and thought, “water-fresh, gonna be a man-scent,” and set it aside with respect. Fragrantica gives the notes as Fennel, Bergamot, Sicilian Lemon and Lavender; middle Herbal Notes, Orange Blossom and Bourbon Geranium; base Sea Notes, Tonka Bean, Cedar and Amber. But instead of being fresh, astringent, and watery on me, it is a cool, sweet fennel with lemon custard and a great amber-lavender duet. The florals come through, but the salty, marine feel is there. Great lasting power, too.
What else did you get from Tauer?
Sundowner and “Tauer’s Secret Choice” samples.
That sounds wonderful — love the idea of fennel in a fragrance.
In OJ Tiare, on the way to finishing it by the end of the year. Take that, decant collection!
Yay for your upcoming decant thunk!
You smell marvelous!
Ooh, you smell great!
Got groceries around lunchtime today. Very glad I had a $5 off coupon in my purse for this trip. It was still over $100 for a few things, though.
My technology irritations continue. The water pump in the cats’ water fountain died this afternoon. I had been diligent about cleaning it out, but it was quite kaput when I got back from the grocery store. Grumble. So I ordered a couple of them. We shall see how long they last.
SOTD = back in Black Flower Mexican Vanilla. One spray is perfect for temps around 70 degrees F for me. I can use more once the temps drop…
Grocery prices are so high…. I wonder if they’ll ever go down.
I did get a couple of expensive items today. Thankfully they aren’t regular purchases.
You’ve got me thinking about BFMV as my pre-bedtime perfume for tonight.
Curious to hear which pump you decide on. My new wildman like to jump up and drink from faucet whenever I turn one on. I’m thinking a drinking fountain instead of their ordinary water bowl may make faucets less special and less attractive.
I ordered a couple of replacement pumps for the water fountain I already have. It’s from Pioneer Pet. We discovered that a couple of our current kitties were breaking out from plastic food bowls and the plastic water fountain we had back then. The model I have now is stainless steel, and super easy to clean. I can take is apart and put almost everything in the dishwasher.
https://www.chewy.com/pioneer-pet-big-max-style-stainless/dp/49058
The big downside of this model is that Spooky kitty can easily play in the water. And does!
Should be ” I can take IT apart…”
Smelling good as usual but really boo hiss on the grocery prices!
At least veggies are relatively cheap! 😏
Black Flower Mexican Vanilla is gorgeous — you smell great! And you’ve reminded me of Jeffrey Dame’s many excellent fragrances; I may have to wear JD Duality tomorrow.
SOTD = Chris Rusak Io
Oh my, what a day! When I heard a pop on the the train literally 5 minutes away from the NYC destination, my heart sank to depths unknown. Thanks goodness it took only 20 minutes to resolve but then again, no one could tell us how long it may take! The last time this happened this year on my way back to NJ, it took over 2 hours while we were cooked from the heat!
https://www.instagram.com/p/Cjob0NdOCi_/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Glad it was quickly handled!!
Yes to incense!
My sotd is Miroir des Majestes. I am accidentally doing the complete opposite of the cp.
I was back in the basement today. I decided to quit shredding paper for awhile and just work on getting things out for donating. This way it might seem like I am making progress.
Yes! I finally dropped off a huge pile of clothes a few weeks ago. It was such a good feeling! Lots of space in my mind and on my floor were gained.
You are making progress even when it doesn’t feel like it.
Phew! I’m exhausted. Was up since 3:30 am as my mind was racing and wouldn’t stop. Might as well get up!
Packing and things are all set up (hopefully!). Heading out first thing in the morning. I tried to restrain myself with makeup and lotions since I don’t usually wear it/them anyways. Have to make a final check of what fragrances I packed because it feels like days ago!
Yuck, that’s way too early to be up!
Safe travels.
Thanks Jalapeno! Seriously, too early to be up!
I was up at 3 as well. Hope you have a good trip!
Thank you! It’s a new adventure for us.
Safe travels!
Thank you, lillyjo! We are going to take our time.
SOTD: Miller Harris’ Violet Ida. It’s so beautiful!
