Lazy weekend poll ~ open thread, World Space Week 2022

Posted by Robin on 8 October 2022 218 Comments

It's the weekend, and it's World Space Week. We're just fiddling around on Earth with our same old open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance you'd wear on a space flight, whatever.

Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

I’m rounding my Guerlain week with Cuir Buluga, another mini from my Advent calendar. This one is my favorite and I may treat myself to a full bottle. Hubby loves it, so bonus point.

Wearing FM Iris Poudre. The first person I ran into today said how wonderful I smelled. It is beautiful. I think I should buy a BUB since they are so reasonable at Jomashop right now. Not sure how long the price will last. And I have no connection to them. I have noticed they have reduced prices on many good fragrances. Do many of you shop there? I have gotten a few things and have been very satisfied.

I hadn’t even tried Jomashop for perfumes — will have to look! My spouse has used them for watches. It’s a mixed bag for watches; he’s done okay but the one he bought me there has been a lemon. It has been in for repairs more than I’ve worn it, and of course the warranty was null and void because it was bought through Jomashop. (But hey, at least it’s keeping our local watch repair shop employed!) I’d imagine they’d be better for perfumes, since you don’t have to worry as much about the loss of warranty or repairs.

    Hello and happy weekend!
Sotd is AA Forte Mandarine Basilic. I prefer this version more than the edt. Very citrusy and a little sweet, like orange flavoured candies but in a good way.
I would’ve had the perfect scent to wear on a space flight, it was supposed to be the smell of the moon. It was made by a crowd funding project but the bottle never made it into my hands! After reaching the target amount, the creator/team stopped updating their page and then one day they claimed the bottles were shipped out. The tracking started off in China which was dodgy and never made it out. I tried leaving them a message on their page and also emailed but no replies. I paid for two bottles, one for me and one as a gift for my space obsessed friend… This was my first time backing a project and I will not back another one again. Such a horrible experience. 😭🤬

On my last bottle of last year’s Christmas limited edition shower gel from Yves Rocher, Orange Fondante. I topped it off with a few spritzes of their Orange et Chocolat EDT from 2010, so good.

Went to the local Yves Rocher shop and they were sold out of the My Shiny Vanilla EDT but they did have lots of the boxed set of EDT + oil scrub for $5 more. After spraying the tester I thought about it and decided I didn’t need it: it’s nice but I have lots of vanillas already. I might change my mind, especially if it goes on clearance after Christmas.

Then I went to the Body Shop in the same mall and not only do they not have any of the Christmas limited editions, they’re already putting out gift sets, so I’m gonna guess they’re not getting the Spiced Orange in the Canadian stores, which is a shame, because it sounds very much like my thing (and is even less expensive than the YR). Maybe it’ll show up in Toronto or Montréal at the end of the month when we have our little getaway.

I just started that and have watched two episodes. What a beautiful couple they are! But I read up about her (just on Wikipedia) and was disappointed by how wildly inaccurate it all is, at least so far. Not sure I’ll stay with it, but yes, the outfits are great but so are the settings, those palaces and gardens! And it’s fun to see people like the wild and crazy Liszt brought to life, sort of.

In Santal Pao Rosa, one of my favorite Guerlain.

A cool day today in the 50’s, but it is sunny and nice outside. I am still running errands and then I will rest for the remaining of the long holiday weekend. I am planning, like every weekend in October, to watch some classic Halloween movies on tv. I may order thai food to be delivered for dinner tonight.
Deva, I just came back from Trader Joe’s in my area and there was plenty of pumpkin cream cheese. Our Trader Joe’s here always carry tons of pumpkin items until Thanksgiving. I hope you eventually find the cream cheese. The pumpkin hummus is also very tasty.

    Happy weekend, everyone! 🍂🍎🍁

Oh, thanks and good to know! I will keep my eyes peeled at the local TJ’s! I saw pumpkin oatmeal last time I was there, but the ingredients consist of sugar, sugar, and more sugar so I stepped away reluctantly…😅

I got the pumpkin oatmeal, and only tried one packet. I didn’t like it. Too sweet and doesn’t have much pumpkin flavor. I will use the rest to make a couple of oatmeal cookies.

It always looks busy because for some reason, every TJ’s that I’ve been has inadequate parking. No matter if it’s in my hometown of St Pete, or California, Arizona, Oregon- they are all built in small strip malls with minimal parking. That’s a big turn off for people because it always looks packed. Definitely don’t go on the weekend though, because it really IS packed then! Their prices are not bad and most of their produce is quite healthy and fresh. I’ve also bought a couple of wild caught salmon fillets and they were fresh and delicious! I loved their sourdough until I came here. They must use a different baker or something because I find better in the regular grocery here in Washington. They carry almost exclusively their own brand, so there’s not much of an option if you’re looking for competing items. Go at a time you don’t feel pressured to rush through because then you can get a good look around. They have hidden goodies all over the store.

I just looked at this year’s Guerlain Advent calendar. I will not be purchasing one. I can fly to Hawaii twice for what it costs! Today I’m wearing Miller et Bertaux Indian Study/Santal, a blind buy that I like very much, though I tend to like all sandalwood scents. The bottle and the label look really cheap, though. Not something to oooh and ahhh over on the vanity.
There is wildfire smoke in the air but I have to do some yard work before it gets any colder. Fall is definitely here.

In order from most favorite to least favorite: Chanel Bois des Iles parfum, Sonoma Scent Studio Champagne de Bois, Feel Oud Sweet Bengal Santal, Madhat Scents SantL, Miller et Bertaux Indian Study/Santal, The Exotic Island Perfumer Santal Exotique, Dixit & Zak Lucky Santal, Crabtree & Evelyn Sandalwood, and Villoresi Sandalo. The Crabtree & Evelyn can get a little barbershop-ish on me and the Villoresi has a bit too much lavender to my liking.

Hi all you fragrant folks 😊 Wearing Narsisco white cube today. It’s a perfect October day here, cool and sunny and breezy. The trees are starting to get colorful and gorgeous.
In other news, there’s a huge sale in a city nearby that includes some perfumes from a boutique that is out of business. In the ad, I saw Etat Libre d’Orange boxes along with Cray-on and lots of unidentifiable lotions and potions. Sadly, I can’t go but a friend of mine is so I gave her a list. Wouldn’t it be awesome to get a bottle of Fat Electrician for, say, $20? I’m sure that won’t happen but it would be great!

I jumped into the Tauer camp last night by spritzing PHI at bedtime and just upped the ante this morning. Smelling delish! I’m still lemming a FB of Au Coeur…

Leaves are definitely changing here but still in the 70’s, temp wise. Researching gas prices, which are still ridiculously high here at well over $5 gallon/regular. $2 cheaper in my home state. Can’t begin to understand that disparity. Consequently, we have been going no where and spending nothing in this fine state. However, we will hopping on a ferry in a couple of weeks to explore the San Juan Islands and I’m very much looking forward to that! I have my binoculars ready! Finally got paid yesterday after 8 weeks without a paycheck and it makes me so HAPPY to get some hospital bills paid, money in savings, and a little to spend on unnecessary items. One of those items would be a puzzle game for T-Rex. It has a bunch of trapdoors and hidden areas to hide kibble or treats and she has to figure out how to access them. Being the gentle, disciplined dog she is, she basically grabbed the whole thing and tossed it around until the doors flew open and the kibble fell out. $36 for that fun show! 🤣

    Happy weekend to all!

I’m in Washington. I paid 5.19 for regular which was the cheapest I could find, using the cheap gas app on my phone. I’ve heard good things about the cheek stains but have yet to try them. I’m sure she would absolutely love them! And 3 colors in smaller packaging seems much more useful to me…

Wow, our gas is under $4.00 now. (Some good things about living in Texas, such as also no state income tax.)

I’ve got a couple of puzzle toys/games like that for my cats. I put them away because they get bored easily, but I should get them out again and entertain the kittens (or, really, one-year-olds) as they’re easily bored. Not sure that technique would be used by a cat, but hey, it gets the job done, right? lol

This one is actually designed for cats. They only had one style for dogs, which was way too easy. Like fragrances being marketed as masculine/feminine, there really is no difference between the games marketed for dogs/cats. I have found that the interest she displays is directly linked to the type of treat being hidden. Kibble is a “Meh…” reaction, bits of chicken or liver is an “oh, hell ya!” reaction. Maybe if you hide bits of tuna, they would be more interested..?

I’m going to use some cat treats and I’m sure they’ll be avid to find them. In fact I’m not sure I’ve even ever introduced the toys to my newest kitties. It’s just a cat thing: what fascinates them for a day or week soon goes out of favor and you must put it away for awhile. Some cats are extremely persistent and fascinated by it and some just give it a glance and walk away, “ho-hum,” and some never quite “get it.” Also, their paw dexterity varies quite a lot, and for the ones I have, they’ve really got to wriggle things around in the little openings.

I’m in Kyoto today. I wore L’heure Bleue from my FB yesterday.

World Space Week needed to wait a week or two, since we’re headed out to an astronomy weekend in the mountains east of here two weekends from now. It’s always a crapshoot as to whether we’ll have clear sky in October, though, plus we still even now have smoke from the fires out that way. We cancelled last year because of rain and have to use the credit this year, so I guess worst case we’ll have an atmospheric weekend in the middle of the mountains and the kid will swim.

Quiet day here, with Ockeghem Tween at camp with her orchestra this weekend. It’s so weird to not have to run her around all weekend! I may head downtown to look in at Lush or Holt’s to sniff some things.

Bought the mango and blood orange shower gels at Lush and tried the Turmeric Latte perfume. I actually really have been enjoying the Turmeric Latte — nicely nutty up front and now a nice vanilla after about 6 hours. Worth $195, tho? Probably not, also because…

I got to try Bois des Îles at Holt’s finally, on my other arm. And holy mother of all notes I love rolled together very tastefully into one beautiful scent! Love! But…the price tag. And not nearly the longevity of the Lush perfume…it would take more than the single (but generous) spray I had at Holt’s. But I can’t remember the last time I had a so obvious “love” reaction so quickly.

Ooh please report back on the shower gels once you try them. I have quite a list of seasonal shower gels I currently want to buy from Lush, but I worry with my current stash I won’t be able to use all the Lush while they’re in their prime. So I feel like my list needs to be whittled down.

Also, it looks like when in stock, a smaller, more affordable bottle of Turmeric Latte can be had. The Lush USA website shows they make it in 1oz for $65. Hope that’s the case for Canada too!

Continuing with Guerlain and wearing Gourmand Coquin, Coffee and College Game Day, then out to our town’s Pumpkin Patch Fest. I bought a t-shirt. We wandered, listened to music, snapped photos of dogs. Very clear but…oh my! The wind. Died down after awhile. As we headed home, stopped for music outside a local restaurant. Couldn’t resist so got us some jambalaya, chicken and biscuit and a hurricane. Yes, I’m still in WI. Evidenced by people doing the polka to the N.O. Music. And the long lines for brats and cheese curds….

I need to wear GC more often.

Vetiver Tonka for a sunny, gorgeous fall day.
I made a rare trip downtown and browsed the department store perfume section. Gasped out loud when I saw a bottle of Armani Encens Satin which I thought was discontinued and had wanted a few years back. Gave it another test and was thankful that I didn’t like it as much as I remembered…it seemed a bit sour to me which incense-perfumes often do. Whew! $310 saved…

I am wearing Grandiflora Boronia which was my one purchase from yesterday’s fun outing with Coumarin and nancyleandros. Coumarin recommended it, especially because it was (is) on a half-price close-out special. (Sadly, no Queen of the Night.) It’s a beautiful scent that makes me want to smell some of these flowers in real life. But it also has cognac, osmanthus, and apricot–it manages to be both rich and delicate at the same time, with some woody notes too. I’m missing others that are in the description of it on Fragrantica, so ymmv. Oh, and caramel! Now that stands out, and is yummy!

I put pictures from yesterday on Instagram, and you may view them here: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cjdl5RcuHNwQZ96hPJRCwj4-WIayTH3hLESZL80/.

My account is private due to all the harassers on IG, but if you care to see it you can send me a follow request and/or a note on here. I also posted a picture of my Guerlain collection yesterday, which you might enjoy.

Finally, FragranceNet has Amouage on sale. Now, even on sale the bottles are pricey, but still–they have a quite good selection including Fate, Interlude, Honour, Jubilation 25, and a couple of the new ones, and have a lot off of some of the (maybe all of?) the Opus Library scents. If you’ve never tried Opus VIII, I really recommend it as a GREAT perfume. (Check out Kafkaesque’s review if you are doubtful.) Most likely these Opus scents in the new bottles are/will be more pricey. (No affiliation with either Amouage or FragranceNet.)

Instagram has become a real disappointment to me. The idea was wonderful, but the reality has now become a cesspool. My feed is jammed with everyone selling, selling, selling! I used to follow a bunch of folks who are full time campers for all kinds of good camping info (boondocking spots, campground reviews, camping gadgets and accessories, RV reviews, ad infinitum) but now they’re just trying to sell stuff. And if they’re being paid by Thor Industries to review a Thor camper, seems like it would be a conflict of interests to me…🤔. Since it’s become monetized, it’s just one long commercial. And as you mentioned, there just so much craziness and X-rated crap being sent around…ugh! I have given serious thought to closing my account because the joy is gone. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve been lucky with IG so far. I used it to leave FB and only connect with the people I wanted to. Having a private account helped. But yeah, I see the public accounts, esp. for bands I like, and it feels like combatting bots is a full time job.

    SOTD = Chronotope Cucurrucucu EDP

Nice, and 8 sprays lasted 6 hours. I’m now in a couple of sprays of Ginger Piccante.

My lottery tickets yielded bupkis so I bought another $6 worth.

I went to Whole Foods to have an order of fish tacos and a margarita. The food was great although it took a little bit longer than usual. My margarita arrived a good 30 minutes after I ordered it and the place only had one other customer! I had to request utensils (which I asked for when I placed my order) AND reminded them I still don’t have my drink. When it arrived 10 minutes later, it had no salt around the rim. I said I did not want it anymore and expect a refund plus a portion of the tip. I got my money back but the next time I go and it’s the same guy cashier, I will turn around and not eat there. Seriously, in all that time I could have gone to the liquor store and bought a lime margarita mix, a bottle of tequila, salt tin, requested a cup of ice and made my own drink!

Guerlain Iris Torrefie, with a dab of Iris Ganache just for fun.

I missed yesterday – it was my birthday, and I was flitting about doing various fun and celebratory things. No surprise, I enjoyed perfumed presents. Sotd was Van Cleef & Arpels Moonlight Patchouli, my FragranceNet perfume-of-the-month which happened to arrive that day. The minute I sprayed it on (NOT what I was expecting, was thinking creamy, sweet patch) I was reminded of something. It took about twenty minutes, and I realized it is very much like DVF Diane! I really liked it. But I stepped on the test with a change of clothes and my gift to me, Shalimar Millesime Tonka! It is now my favorite Shalimar, and also I finally have a tonka that I love. In anticipating its arrival, I read many reviews, and at least two people (don’t think it was here) mentioned its similarity to the extrait. Today I dabbed a bit of my 1985 extrait on my arm, and then Hajusuuri-level sprayed the rest of my person with SMT. I very much see an affinity. Hope all NST’ers are having a peaceful day of rest. Don’t miss going out before sunrise the next few days to see Jupiter and Mars this month, and the moon tonight! I’m in Midwest USA.

Happy Birthday MossyBerry! I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying your birthday perfume treats, especially the SMT.
Hope the rest of your weekend is just as good.

P.S. I’m having a lot of fun with your fragrant surprises from the swap.
The Miller Harris La Feuille reminds me right away of L’Ombre dans L’Eau with that realistic tomato leaf and the blackcurrant. I frankly prefer the Miller Harris. Thank you again!

Yay so happy to hear you’re enjoying it! I will be sure to try L’OdL’E and compare. La Feuille both intrigues and delights me. It was a TJX find, too; one of my best ever.

The moon was amazing here also, this morning. Low and orange near the horizon with a gleaming orange trail across the water (Puget Sound). That said, I have no interest in a space trip. Much happier with my feet planted on earth (is that the Taurus in me?).

Bois des Iles today. If I get to France someday (the canceled vacation from August, 2020), I think I’ll buy some BdI as a memento of the trip.

I’ve been enjoying Trvdon Bruma today. Tried it on skin at the sniffa on Friday with coumarin and Calypso, but really couldn’t give it a real test since I was, well, reeking of seven other things already. Ahem, this is wonderful. I have lovely iris perfumes in my collection, so this would be redundant, but I can’t say I’m not tempted. 😅
