honestly this one is so light…I can barely smell it..it’s oily and I rubbed it up and down my arms…that’s why I added the extra RC31, which you know I lOVE
yesterdays’s 27 sprays to answer mossyberry lasted about four hours…and lillyjo wanted to know if it was the new Pacifica and it is…bottle is so cute…they were half price so 11 dollars each…I bought the whole collection…150 ml in total for 55 dollars…unfortunately I have scent devouring skin so despite 9 sprays three times before I left the house it had disappeared by 11am

Another dreary gonna-rain day so I’m wearing my last few drops of sunshiny L’Artisan Seville a l’Aube, the only orange-flower scent I’ve ever loved. It’s delectably warm and smooth — you can imagine it as ice cream.
You smell great, I wore that one last week, had forgotten how gorgeous it is.

I switch out my perfumes every six months and just got out all the ones for the fall/winter season. I usually like doing this, but there were some that I liked so much this summer that I struggled putting them away.

What a confusing 24 hours! Supposed to start back to work tonight but never got instructions so texted my agency and the unit manager yesterday. Crickets. Finally found out that because I was starting on an odd day (which they insisted on because it’s my surgical release date and they “need help asap”), but that didn’t fly with IT, so they pushed my start date back to 10/10 but never told my agency or me..!
Anyway, after a prolonged texting, email, phone convo, they have now decided I can in fact start tonight but probably won’t have access. Meaning I can’t do a single thing. Geez Louise! The fun begins 😅

A thousand years ago I used to work with this nurse who was such a blast. We made our own language to use around patients so as not to divulge private info, etc. We had entire conversations using acronyms. I’ve forgotten most of it now, but we always had a blast when we worked together and no one knew what in the heck we were talking about. 😜
We’re having a gorgeous, cool autumn day here. Windows are open! I’ve cracked out the crockpot for the season, and it is doing its thing with a new-to-me beef stew recipe.
In honor of the cooler weather, I was craving a light, not-at-all-foody vanilla. That’s not a note that features in my collection, but I finally remembered that I have a Berdoues sample set, so Vanira Moorea it is! This thing is definitely not a heavy hitter. It’s also not too sweet, which is what I was hoping for. We’ll see how it wears.

I got anxious and got out my crock pot a few weeks ago. Now have vegetable beef soup and chili in the freezer.
I just listened to a podcast of an interview with someone named Daniela Gesundheit on CBC Tapestry. Mary Hynes, the interviewer mentioned briefly her love of niche fragrances, and the unfortunately named Ms Gesundheit said that in her performances, assistants walk through the audience while opening and closing paper parasols that have been scented with essential oil blends created to express the music. Her music is stunning and I thought that experience would be right up our alley!

I’m feeling so left out because we don’t really get fall in Houston. In fact this week is a very hot one even for us, with forecasts of 98F today and possibly even 100F tomorrow. I’m still wearing t-shirts and avoiding the outdoors. So the very idea of “seasons” and “transitional scents” is only a vague memory to me.
Yesterday I wore Sables, which I love, but admit it was too heavy for this heat. I’m not sure what to put on later today (I slept in late) but may do Mure et Musc (which spellcheck inexplicably wants to turn into Music or even Musclewoman, ha ha ha–so decidedly NOT me).
Yesterday morning I gave an online lecture to an audience of 100, mostly students, in India! That was a first for me and it was quite fun. Nice to get back in the saddle, so to speak. I do miss teaching. Some of them wrote me sweet thank you notes afterward; one even thanked me for my “divine” lecture, another first for rme!
Congratulations on your lecture. I bet it was divine! I think I would really miss the seasons and also the change in light. I hope your rehab is still helping and you are getting stronger every day. I still haven’t caught up with Stranger but I did watch a good English drama with Tim Roth and Samantha Morton about murderer John Christie (1940-50s) called 10 Rillingdon Place. Very atmospheric and well acted , Roth was chilling as Christie.

Yes, I miss seasons a lot. I’ve thought of moving back up north but on my current state of health it would be too dangerous to deal with snow and ice.
The snow and ice are no joke. I grew up in Baltimore and know that I cannot cope with that heat and humidity ever again — but do worry about how I’ll manage winters (which I love) as time passes.

Just as the mornings are growing lighter and I have been up with the dawn chorus, an immersive , cathedral-like choir of sound rising up from the valley and hills, we’re heading into daylight saving so I will have to go outside at 415 for a while to catch the best of it. The air is warmer and this weekend I am going inland , to fruit growing country, as all the orchards are in blossom and it will look incredible. I am looking forward to it…and we have a one-off long weekend (Queen Memorial Day) . I will stay with family, take champagne and Proust, walk amongst the trees and welcome spring. Wearing La Dolce Vita.

It’s not that I don’t love fall.
Of course I love fall.
But the problem with fall is that the thing after fall is winter. And, ugh. If I could dispense with fall in order to dispense with winter, I would. And in a way, that’s almost what I’ve done by living in California.

My intern complimented my scent 🙂 That plus the giant black-and-white cookies left over in the cafeteria from some corporate something-or-other meeting have helped make today less grump-making than it was before lunch.

Wearing Chanel No. 19 Poudre. It’s lovely and just what I needed today. Definitely cooler in the mornings lately but we’ve been still reaching warm temperatures in the afternoon. Next week it looks like summer will be back for a few days!
Temp here has dropped twenty degrees (F) since this morning — it is cool and rainy and Mr. Skal and I are heading to an outdoor (with patio heaters) dinner at a local winery. It’s his first excursion since having COVID, and I just got my bivalent booster this afternoon, so probably not a late night for us.
I, too, pulled out a bunch of fall fragrances today. I’d been thinking about Shalimar, especially after reading about the very tempting new flanker, but settled on Roísín Dubh (Cloon Keen). I love it. And I am going to wear my Aran hoodie this evening (first time it’s been cold enough!); enjoying my memories of Ireland!
Good for you on the bivalent booster! I got mine a couple of weeks ago at my office, two days after we got it in. That flanker is now on the Guerlain US website!

Yes! The hoodie was actually a purchase after we returned to the US, but from an Irish company (Ireland’s Eye). The one I wanted was out of stock while we were there, and then it came back in stock AND they had an anniversary sale, so I jumped. I can report that it is wonderfully warm — I ended up taking off my jacket and just wearing the hoodie at tonight’s dinner (where other guests were getting as close to the heaters as possible to try to warm up).
6 am inventory this morning, and it’s done for now. I’m very tired and have a headache. My sotd is Libre le Parfum but I am going to shower it off.
I bought a door sign with pumpkins and says Happy Fall on it. My neighbors are probably wondering who their new neighbors are. Lol.

In other news, my doggie nephew was stung by a bee. Actually, my sister thinks he stepped on a bee. No adverse allergic reaction other than having to lick his paw, finding a new corner to nap and just time to make the pain go away. He’s just an itty bitty one no more than 10 pounds.
Your doggie nephew got off easy with that bee sting, methinks. No vet trip there!

Aww, poor baby! I’m glad he didn’t have a noticeable reaction. They should keep an eye on the 💩for the next 24 hours or so. Allergic reactions in dogs sometimes manifest in that way (ie: blood in the stool), according to the vet I had to take T-Rex to a couple years ago. She squatted to do her business on top of a fire ant mound that neither of us noticed. They swarmed and within 5 minutes she went from sitting upright in the car (as we headed to the vet) to limp as a noodle and unresponsive. Scared me to death!
Awww, poor little guy. Years ago my cat was stung by a wasp or bee; more than likely stepped on. His foot was twice grew to twice the size, so a vet trip was made. I also stepped on a wasp on the grass and was promptly bitten; holy cow, that was painful!
Glad the puppy seems relatively unscathed!
