Wednesday scent of the day 9/21

Posted by Robin on 21 September 2022 112 Comments

It’s Hump Day and the swapmeet is still open. Also, the International Day of Peace, World Gratitude Day, and Leonard Cohen’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: day two in Hermès Eau de Néroli Doré.

Reminder: on 9/23, we're doing You Say It's Your Birthday...pick a song related to a musical birthday today (John Lomax, Ray Charles, John Coltrane, Julio Iglesias, Bruce Springsteen, Ani DiFranco, or find another!) and wear a fragrance to match.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Good morning.
    Sotd is EL Sensuous Stars.
Been busy this week and time really got away from me. Can’t believe it’s Wednesday. But that also means weekend!
    Currently drinking Marco Polo tea.

The day is dreary and drizzly, but I am glowing like an ember in Caron Coup de Fouet, all spicy carnation.

The East coast is due for a hurricane this weekend, but the weather forecasters keep changing their minds about how bad it’s going to be. The apocalypse! No, just some rain and a bit of a blow! We’re charging all our batteries and stocking up on water plus food that doesn’t need cooking or refrigeration, just in case. You can never be too sure.

Not only am I wearing JLO GLOW to work today, I have worn it three times in the past week and show no signs of stopping. I don’t even know how JLO GLOW showed up in my perfume cabinet, but I guess she was waiting for her moment.

I’m in VCA Bois d’Iris again. Getting to the end of my decant.
The weatherman said a cold front was coming through last night but he was mistaken. It was still 72 when I got up this morning. No complaints here! I’ll take it.🌞

It’s 80 here. Cold front coming through tonight and then we will be stuck in the 60’s.

Weird, we were supposed to have storms all day and had spotty! I got home yesterday and the lawn was soaked, my daughter was like yeah it totally down-poured at 2. I work 4 miles away and not a drop.

    Stressful week.
Listening to Philip Glass this morning and wearing my wedding perfume Beige from a sample. The combination of the music and the scent are helping me keep my head on straight.

Also, this morning my boyfriend aka Delonghi espresso machine didn’t work because he needs to be descaled. I didn’t have any of the solution- any home remedies?

We used to use vinegar to descale our coffee maker before the days of the French press. Does reek up the house a bit though, lol.

My mom uses some vinegar and water to descale the coffee maker. I think she is going to get a water softener system to help contend with the hard water.

Using vinegar might void the warranty, and it’s supposed to need three rinses to protect the components and get rid of the smell/taste

I’m doing transitional fragrances all week and today is Fendi Furiosa, a blind buy that worked out! It’s got a cool bottle to boot.

Glorious fall weather so I’ve been taking long walks each day. This weekend is our last camping weekend of 2022–another trip to our favorite spot on San Juan Island and weather looks decent, although cooler, of course. I’m really excited for it. We’ll pack the coffee and hot chocolate!

I hope you are feeling much better this week, Robin.

I’m wearing Chanel No. 18 today. I don’t see this one mentioned much but I have grown to love it. It proves the power of samples, in my case. I didn’t like it much the first time I tried it, but a kind SA gave me a bunch of the Exclusifs samples and 18 ended up being a fave, so I bought it years later.

Tried Dame’s Earth Mother this morning. I quite like it and no wonder because to me it’s close kin to Queen. I also tried Chocolate Man but it’s definitely not for me. I’ll stick with CSP Amour de Cacao.

On a movie note, finally saw Nomadland the other night. I read the book as soon as it came out but wasn’t really interested in the movie because movies based on books have always been disappointing to me. However, when we were rambling about these past few weeks I pulled off at a random scenic site in Oregon to take doggo down to the beach for a bit of exercise. When I got back to the van, a guy approached me about the van and we had a nice chat. Turns out he was in the movie, told me what part and sure enough there he was. Turns out he’s a mechanic by trade, has built out a ton of vans and attends the WRTR to teach women the basics of car care- from changing a tire, oil, etc… It’s a small world!

    Happy Humpday!

I tried their vanilla soliflore, not the Mexican Vanilla, which I’ve tried before. The vanilla orchid one, which was a bit too plastic-y to me. VERY sweet…Which soliflore is your favorite..?

It’s a tossup between the Osmanthus and the Narcissus. I have a few others I haven’t tried on skin yet, like the Tuberose and Cactus Orchid.

Good to know that the Vanilla Orchid is sweet. I’ll give that a pass. I seem to amp up sweet notes.

          • Jalapeno says:
            21 September 2022 at 10:51 pm

Hmmmmmm. The Dame Narcissus is definitely a soliflore. The Fazzolari has a lot more going on besides narcissus.

I can use the Dame Narcissus oil as a layer to add a bit of extra “something-something” to a few perfumes. The best combo I have hit upon so far is Wrappings + a little dab of the Narcissus oil.

The Fazzolari is a stand alone perfume par excellence.

My 5 second brush with fame, which was just about as long as his scene! I liked the movie, but it bore no resemblance to the book. The movie was a very personal work of fiction and the book was more of a nonfiction socioeconomic commentary. If one has no experience with the houseless population other than those who poop/pee in public and leave a biohazardous mess on sidewalks and parkways, it does show that there is a large population that has worked hard their whole life and still wants to earn money by working, but simply cannot make enough or even “qualify” for a job. Certainly, they wouldn’t make enough to pay rent or a mortgage these days.

Sotd is Perris de Monte Carlo Jasmin de Pays and I’m thoroughly enjoying the layers.

    Persolaise says it better –

“The jasmine conjures those innocuous white petals with precisely the right levels of greenness, icy dew, leafy banana and only-just-overcooked tobacco. His dosage of the mothball whiff of indole is nothing short of masterful.”

Still wearing ELdO for now, in part because I liked many of them better last week than I had before, and in part because we are still keeping our distance from one another at home (Mr. Skal is lots better, and it seems that I may escape COVID-free), and this sample set is one of only two fragrances I grabbed from our bedroom when I decamped to the guest room. Anyway, today is Fils de Dieu, and I really, really like it. I don’t need a FB.

My sotd is TF White Patchouli. Another one of those “why didn’t I buy it when I had the chance” perfumes. It’s inventory tonight and tomorrow morning. It shouldn’t be too bad though because we are pretty light on merchandise right now. Christmas items should be coming full force pretty soon.
Saying see ya next year to Summer 👋🌞🌻🌷

I just did a quick Internet search, and TF White Patchouli is available at Amazon. Seems a bit pricey, though.

Woohoo on proper Fall! I’m glad your inventory won’t be too bad … but didn’t you just go through one < 5 or 6 weeks ago?

We did it in June. Since we have become a high theft store we have to do it 3 times a year instead of twice a year.

Mr. Jalapeno departed for FL around lunchtime today. Last night, he said that he had spoken with his stepmother, and she mentioned that after her surgery, she won’t be allowed to walk for 8 weeks. Wow. And there are more procedures for later on…

So now we shall see how things turn out.

I did get all my errands done yesterday lillyjo. Taking it easy today as a result.

SOTD = Smell Bent Incensed EdT, from the sample stash. Root beer, smoke, incense and leather. I suspect that it will shine in cooler weather.

8 weeks is a long time but better that she has hope to be able to walk again!

Now that you’re temporarily single, which perfumes can you wear without offending the kitties?

I can wear anything I want. The cats don’t care. It’s an unusual event when my cats pay attention to what I am wearing.

When Mr. Jalapeno is around, I can wear anything I want, too. 🤣🤣🤣

Is he staying the whole 8 weeks? Or does she have other helpers?

Yes, he is staying the whole 8 weeks AFAIK. His stepmom will be in a rehab facility after the surgery, so he is staying at her home to look after it and her dogs.

IDK if other people are involved.

My nephew is done with his 13 weeks of officer training and was commissioned last Friday. There’s a backlog at the base for his next phase of his training so while waiting it out, he will be a Navy recruiter. He said he may continue his tutoring gig which is allowed. It’s good to have him around in the next 3-4 months.

Commando most of the day (it was very busy with domestic duties) then realized I needed violet. SotD Opus III – to my mind, perfect for a dry, hot last day of Summer and as a transition to a predicted cooler first day of Fall. Off to read comments: waives to all the NST’ers. Glad to see some non-commenters joining in lately!! That was me for a long time. 😀

Couldn’t figure out my perfume mood this morning so after not wearing any for the first couple hours of working from home, I decided to just wear something I could thunk. So goodbye to my spray sample of Biehl PC01 that’s been in the sample stash a long time. 😎
