Thursday scent of the day 9/8

Posted by Robin on 8 September 2022 197 Comments

It's Almost-Friday, Star Trek Day and International Literacy Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: I am happily taking more cp points with Parfum d'Empire Azemour Les Orangers.

Reminder: on 9/9, wear a fragrance with a hay note. If you prefer, substitute any old cereal grain, or anything that calls to mind a fall harvest (the Harvest Moon will be on Saturday). (We did a similar project in 2016.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m trying Idyllwild for the first time, from a sample that I got free from a special that Ministry of Scent was running a while ago. Love the rhubarb in this.

Hi NST! Wearing Yesterday Haze today and giving myself partial points because it reminds me of apple picking aka a fall harvest thing….I’m going to try adding CB Gathering Apples to the mix. It’s a beautiful clear, cool morning here and Larry the cat is sleeping on the open windowsill with his belly to the sun, life is good today. My heart goes out to those suffering from the extreme heat.

I am still in Armenia and loving every minute of it. Visiting exhibits, going to theatre, spending my time in the cafes doing nothing.
I made a little damage and bought the Voskanian Peche Cypree following your advice. It will make a good souvenir from the trip.

I’m enjoying the cooler fall nights, and getting into the new school routine.

SOTD is Sienne l’Hiver, which allegedly has a hay base note that I’ve never smelled. (Not smelling it now, either.) Maybe my nose is just oblivious. Apparently my ears are, because when we were out with friends last week one of them told me that “of course” there is an accordion in “Punk Rock Girl”, which he had tried to cover with some friends. “No way, I’ve listened to it a thousand times and have never heard it,” I said. He told me to listen again, and you bet, there is totally and unmistakably an accordion part that I’d never noticed but definitely adds to the song.

A carnation sort of day, and I stared at Old Spice, Guerlain Terracotta Voile d’Ete, Caron Coup de Fouet, and CdG Carnation for a solid minute before grabbing the last. It’s so violent at the outset, and sometimes that’s what you need. (It’s what I expected and did not get from SL Vitriol d’Oeillet, a huge disappointment.)

It’s Dryad for me this morning. Hay isn’t among its “official” notes, but I swear I get a hay vibe from it. Tomorrow will be either Cuir Pleine Fleur or Azemour, depending on mood and weather. BdJ contributor Patricia says they both have a hay note, and that’s good enough for me!

I went to the local Nyons market this morning. We got more tomatoes, more garlic, shallots, organic mirabelles and grapes.

I have only one perfume here which I will wear tomorrow but I can relay from Duty-Free that I smelled Les Rivières de Cartier and while the other two made no impression Insouciance I found very effervescent and so easygoing but it might lack longevity, will have to test again.

Reine Claude are my second favourite after Mirabelles (which we can’t get here in Spain, but I love them in Germany).

I start each day with fresh fruit and Greek yoghurt for breakfast and I love following the seasons from late Spring (when we have a few weeks of nisperos/loquats breaking the monotony of all-year fruits) through the year. Now we are on Reina Claudia greengages and chumbos/prickly pears with, from memory, just kakis/persimmons to go before the reduced Winter selection starts the cycle off again.

It’s the last if my 2 days off and I am happy to report that I have done nothing at all. Nothing! Not even laundry. I just needed a little break from it all.
My sotd is Flowerbomb Ruby Orchid. I tested out the new J’adore alcohol free perfume. It’s very nice. The mist feels like water on skin but comes out milky. It smells like the original was sprayed in a glass of water. I think it would be good for spring. A downside though is that it left my skin with a sticky feeling.
For hajusuuri.. I didn’t like any part of the new Prada. I thought it was chemically and cheap smelling.

I dug up an old mini of DSH Sud de France oil perfume. I don’t care for the possibly turned lavender and citrus top notes (under better circumstances I love that sort of thing), but the heart was beautiful until I accidentally washed it off. It felt quite hay-ish, and then it resolved into old books + aromatic remnants from the top, and then back and forth between that pair and just sunny dusty hay. Quite nice and utterly intimate sillage. Under many circumstances I like my perfumes personal, but this was quantitatively less fragrant than my unadorned skin. Which may help to explain how one could accidentally wash it off. Oh well.

Commando after a sniff n spray-a-thon at Sniffora. I tried Glorious Jasmine by Gucci..not really jasmine..not really glorious. Sprayed several Replica scents. Nice enough but none were lemmings other than the lemming I already have..By the Fireplace. Then I ended up spraying No 5 l’eau all over..as I guess I kinda liked that one some. I forgot what else I sprayed on me. All of this on top of the Elisire I sprayed on. Lol. I was bombastic..and right before church lol…oops..it’s OK no one was sittin by me anyway. I had that whole section to myself..probably a good thing as I may have bombed anyone by me lol. Not my fault that Sephora is like 2 miles from my church…and I just found this out. Enabled.

Might try another go at a homemade, iced hot cocoa to beat this silly heat wave..109f.

    Hello all!

Feeling cool and mysterious in my Tubereuse Criminelle, from the most recent Gratte-Ciel bottle. Not sure why, but there are so many of those bottles floating around at such a reduced price, and compared to my export bottle, the difference is negligible. I find the top notes so addictive, it’s hard not to keep respraying….

Tomorrow I will be wearing what Robin is wearing today thanks to someone on here that was nice to send me several samples from this perfume house.

SOTD is one of my favorites which is Dame Cassis, Rose & Sandalwood. Several on here suggested I try this, and I am so glad I did!

I was sorry to hear that Queen Elizabeth has died, but happy that she died at home with the people who loved her.

It’s cool enough (finally) to wear some of my heavy hitters, so I’m in Salome today and loving it. Tomorrow will be Azemour, I think it is the only one I have with a hay note.

Winter doesn’t appear to be moving any time soon and we are all grumbling about the cold and grey, aching joints and generally feeling old and worn. I made a lemon and lavender cake yesterday to cheer myself up. It’s basically any lemon or vanilla cake recipe with a heaped tablespoon of chopped lavender flowers added to the mix at the end. Icing was lemon with more lavender chopped and scattered on top. Off to the park to chat ( teeth chatter) with my friend. Our Covid cases have dropped way down so hopefully we can move inside and sit by a heater one day soon. Wearing Green Wheat and Meadowsweet from JM English Fields series.

I used fresh lavender , so used more as dried is stronger. Also, I didn’t follow the instructions properly ( didn’t use a food processor) but it still worked.

I like Honey Oud, since the oud is very soft on me. That makes the scent very enjoyable. I love oud as a note, as long as it is not too prominent and overwhelming.

Joining the CP today in Oeilleres by Robert Greco. Another weird green thing from Marc-Antoine Corticciato, but this is on the animalic side and doesn’t have the innocent feeling of Mal-Aimé. Funny that the cumin in it doesn’t bother me, because that’s a note that usually sends me running. In this case, it adds some sexy dirt, but I’m not getting sweat at all. It’s cool enough today for it to be wearable, yay! Summer is definitely over.

🤔 I’m awful at teasing out notes, but it’s like kissing a lover when you’ve both been working in a garden. There’ are odors of green and dirt, and warm skin. Maybe even sweaty skin, but not armpit stinky sweat, more like just their-skin-you-can’t -get -enough-of sweat. 😎

Rest in peace, Queen Elizabeth II.
It’s lovely here in NYC, mild and warm with a light breeze hinting of fall. I pulled out my sample of Atelier Materi’s Narcissus Taiji which has notes of both hay and bran and suits the season perfectly! After my first wearing, I set it aside to try again. I very rarely do that these days, but this one is oddly compelling to me. It’s so well-blended that the tuberose (my nemesis) and pear (not a fave) don’t stand out on my skin in the least. I’m very impressed as I’ve only experienced that in vintage perfumes. I’m really enjoying it!

Sad news about the Queen. She was the head of state for New Zealand, now we’ll have a King for the first time in 70 years.
I’m trying to think of an appropriate perfume – something from a British brand, a rose as the symbol of England, or something more mournful like a churchy incense. I’m leaning towards Bois d’Encens at the moment.

And on the money too? It will be interesting to see which parts of the commonwealth will try for independence now the queen is gone. Idk I see some just trying to break away, become independent and succeeding. As times have changed so much since she first took the throne. Just my thoughts. Historical times this year.

Jasmin et Cigarette today, so apparently CP compliant, but this is just really delicate and fleeting on me. Is that typical? I’m using a dabber from a discovery set; I just upended the vial against my skin five times.

Processing the news about the Queen — and pulling for Charles.

Re: yesterday’s doctor’s visit, I waited another 10-15 minutes after I’d posted to NST, so was seen about 30 minutes past my appointment time — and before most of the people who had been waiting longer, so not quite sure what was going on but they were probably seeing different providers — but then was in and out in about ten minutes, with a cortisone injection and a set of exercises to do at home (I’ve been seen at this practice before so they chose not to do new X-rays, which was fine with me). I am almost pain—free for the first time in four months.

I think I will join others in wearing something British tomorrow — either Penhaligon’s or Ormonde Jayne.

It’s very fleeting on me too – not sure if that’s my chemistry at work or a newer reformulation. I remember smelling it several years ago when it first came out and it being stronger but I’m not sure if that was my uninitiated nose or the initial (stronger) version.

I’m sorry too to hear about Queen Elizabeth II’s passing. It’s impressive to me she was still doing her duty at age 96 just two days before her death by meeting with and appointing a new Prime Minister! What a life she had.

Today I wore Fleur de Liane, thinking it’s the L’Artisan with a hay note, but I’m obviously wrong. I don’t care that much for this one; those green notes must be the culprit. It’s made me sneezy all afternoon.

Yesterday was a very tough day as I took my oldest kitty, Miss Mina, a tortoiseshell, to the vet because she had rapidly deteriorated over the long holiday weekend. She was very thin and weak and couldn’t even really hold up her head any more. We made the decision to put her to sleep. Even though it was clearly for the best, I cried off and on all day. She was with me almost 18 years, ever since she was a small kitten. I do have other cats but her presence was distinctive and I miss her.

RIP Queen Elizabeth II. A monumental titan has passed. Her reign was truly a “second Elizabethan Age”. King Charles III of Great Britain sounds a little strange.

A lovely late summer day here, with puffy white clouds in a blue sky. The rain has left, hopefully headed across the Atlantic to the parched shores of Europe. Enjoying a day or possibly two without the dang humidity.

SOTD = 19-69 Female Christ EdP, from the sample stash and a kind NSTer. I wanted incense today, and I definitely got it. This is so in my wheelhouse.

I agree with you on the King Charles III comment. I’m hoping he would do the right thing and abdicate; however, judging by his parents’ ages in death, he could have a good 15+ years reign.

I don’t think I’ve ever tried a 19-69 perfume although I may have been influenced by IG talks about it not playing nicely in the interwebs.

RIP Queen Elizabeth II. May her life inspire.

SOTD = Francesca Bianchi Sticky Fingers

Hay? Maybe, but not listed, but so good 🥰

I asked someone at work the other day about whether or not we may be asked to go back to work everyday. He asked me if I was on a 3 or 2 schedule. Ummm, there’s a 2 days a week schedule? Anyway, I did not let that distract me. He also asked how closely management monitors attendance. I know they do but my understanding is that it’s monitored quarterly and at a group level. Hopefully, more people are going in the regular 3 days a week or more because I don’t always do. I have a bit of time off coming and while they don’t count those days, I always feel kinda guilty not being in my 3 days. I won’t be feeling guilty anymore…

Is there a penalty if management finds someone isn’t working their required days?

None that I know of other than the embarrassment of being found out.

I would kinda be ticked off if I found out that there was a 2 days in office schedule had I been working a 3 days in office schedule.

I happened upon a “Sticky Fingers” smell-alike when I sprayed O, Unknown! and Profumum Roma Patchouly in close proximity. Beautiful combination!

I’m also leaning into the heat today with Arabie. It does nicely in the heat for me, with very judicious spraying!!

I had planned to wear Erawan tomorrow for CP, but I think I will end up going with a QE2 inspired choice. She was truly one of a kind and very inspiring. RIP.

Sometimes perfume & extreme weather matches are a balancing act.

A very nice thought. I knew I would be sad when she passed away, but I’m sadder than I expected. RIP.

Trying out Evernia tonight. This is the first blind buy of mine in a long, long time. Ormonde Jayne is almost always a hit with me.
I could really smell the Cassis upon the opening. The first 15 minutes felt humid, soft, and intimate. Not sure now, though, after about an hour. Very interesting creation.

I’m dying to try this as I love oakmoss — very interested to read your thoughts as you experience it!

I really wanted (want?) to love it, but it’s doing with some oakmoss centered fragrances do on my skin, which is veer into sour territory. I was hoping it would be cooler and greener, like Woman. But it’s more warm and pond water like. I don’t know if that makes sense.

I’m going to spray in on clothing or a scarf and see how it goes!

Not wearing it yet, but tomorrow I will claim full CP points for wearing Diane St. Clair’s First Cut, which is ALL about hay and the plants that grow in and around hayfields!

Today I wore the Violet Ida that was a birthday gift, and I love it. Also, it is a fitting tribute to QEII, may she rest in peace, since it is meant to evoke a woman in an English novel who “represents goodness, tenacity and morality.”

Ah, thanks for mentioning First Cut! I think I’ll wear that too!
