Tuesday scent of the day 9/6

Posted by Robin on 6 September 2022 162 Comments

It's Tuesday, plus Coffee Ice Cream Day and Read a Book Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

My husband tested positive for covid last night, and now I've overslept (I was negative last night, we'll see how long that lasts). I haven't got a fragrance yet but I'm having a cup of tea from the random caddy where I throw bits of leftover from other bags — I'm waiting for an order from Upton.

Reminder: on 9/9, wear a fragrance with a hay note. If you prefer, substitute any old cereal grain, or anything that calls to mind a fall harvest (the Harvest Moon will be on Saturday). (We did a similar project in 2016.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Kate Spade Charlotte Street 5 Piece Tea Set in porcelain ("Invite style into your home with this spectacular 5-piece tea set. Get ready to pour relaxation back into your everyday life when you unwind and share with your loved ones") is marked down to $75 today at Horchow.

Enjoying peace and quiet : Mr is at work, kids are back to school

Savoring my second cappuccino slowly while eating biscotti. Listening to the English Patient soundtrack and avoiding reading the newspaper.

SOTD is Le Wild from Chantecaille
From the website “This fragrance is my gift to the women who long for the wild—this scent is her key to escape from the city or the office into the deep, tangled beauty of nature’s utter freedom.”

Escaping today in my old world for sure.

Though I really enjoy having my kids at home with me during the summer-I am enjoying my alone time for sure at this moment. I am going to make myself breakfast and catch up on some volunteer work I am preparing for the library. Maybe take a nap! Or watch what I want to watch on the streaming services . Endless possibilities!

The liner notes to The English Patient soundtrack are so over the top ostentatious that they are hilarious. Well worth the read, especially if you are looking for material other than the newspaper.

I’m in Over the Musk. Was definitely not ready to come back to work after a week off, and I can feel the melancholy trying to sneak in but the sun is just starting to burn through the foggy morning we had here and tomorrow is already hump day, so there is that.🌞
The weather has turned and the nights are getting into the 50’s. Finally able to turn off the AC and crack the window by the head of my bed for a cool breeze all night long. I love it. I dreamt about my beloved granny last night for the first time in awhile. She was laughing and in my mind it sounded just like she used to.☺️

Adding to the chorus who all hope you don’t catch it from Mr. Robin. And hoping that he recovers quickly.

Mr. Vee avoided getting it from me. We were able to use separate rooms and bathrooms while I was sick, and wore N95s on the few occasions where were got near each other. Same thing my parents did when my dad got it but my mom avoided it. So there is hope!

Coffee Ice Cream Day, you say? I’m going to the supermarket later and all I can say about that is “Uh-oh”.

Woulda worn Mugler A*Men Pure Coffee if I’d known, but it’s all good, because I’m wearing SL Fourreau Noir. That black-licorice vibe always makes me happy.

We had rain in the wee hours, then a dark, cloudy morning gave way to a partly sunny afternoon. You smell marvelous; Sensuous is such a cozy, comfy scent. As a fan of the classic EL’s (Youth Dew, Estee, Private Collection), I was late to the party on Sensuous, but now I love it.

L’Ombre dans L’eau, from the Diptyque travel set that I mentioned yesterday. It’s pretty and Spring-appropriate.I also tested some perfumes from a brand that one of my colleagues started! So happy for her,she started a brand earlier this year focusing first on make-up and now also including some perfumes. There is one with a jasmin/carnation note that I absolutely adore!

Hi leathermountain, the liquid salonpas is available as a gel (which then makes it a gel vs liquid). In any case, I may have assumed a roll on because I don’t know that one should necessarily have the substance on one’s fingers.

I’m now in Drôme Provençale, enjoying the scent of pine and wild thyme and not wearing any perfume except essential oil of lavender and citronella as bug spray. There was a stupendous thunderstorm Saturday evening when I arrived and the little streams near-bye are now swollen and happy.

Still very frosty cold here but no more snow and I can see stars outside. I saw this interesting article about magnolia petals in the paper. They are edible, can be pickled like ginger or used fresh in salads and taste like spicy ginger. I wonder if they are a bit like chicory root in terms of bite.. I imagine they would bruise when you cut or tear them. It would be the perfect time to find out as all the magnolias are in bloom now.

I hope you stay well, Robin.

PSA – I recently found out that PdN will make up bottles of (at least some of) their discontinued scents. You have to get the big 250ml bottle and order in advance at one of their boutiques. Suzan at ShopFrance is currently helping me navigate this for another scent.

In a sample of Ryan Richmond’s Rich Mess today, trying to figure out what I can and can’t smell right now. My previous notes on this are leather + saffron play doh + green lily + a hint of fig. Today I get leather (probably at half strength) and a little bit of the play doh and green lily. Still not big on this one.

Drinking Orange Tangerine Zinger today, which must have some hibiscus in it because it a beautiful dark pink. Maybe all the Zingers have hibiscus? I should investigate

The Red Zinger and Lemon Zinger are the “tartest” ones I have tried.

Wearing Wazamba today. Stopped at Ulta to try Azzaro The Most Wanted again. It has that “manly” note that’s in most newer masculine perfumes but after less than an hour this blissful toffee note emerges combined with cardamom. I keep thinking how wonderful it would smell in cold weather 🧐

Cool, very rainy day for me. Had a terrible night of sleep last night, so between that and the weather I have been a slug today. I did rouse up enough energy to vacuum the master bedroom and the stairs this afternoon, though. Teflon kitty is very displeased by this turn of events. 😾

Update on my friend’s husband. He’s definitely doing better but he told his doctor today that he is not yet ready to go home. He will be moved to a sub-acute rehab center this Friday; hopefully, the paperwork can be completed in time. The best idea is for him to go home when he’s ready but my friend will need to arrange for services herself. I offered my help again and hopefully my friend will take me up on my offer.

Robin, I hope nasssty covid will be curtailed in your house!
SotD a mystery perfume from Ebay. Nerdy details follow just in case some has seen it before. The bottle is +/- 4″; a rectangle with beveled corners, on one of which are the words “Givaudan-Roure.” A Parfumo web site search show the exact bottle I have. Best guess of notes are aldehydes, rose, freesia, grapefruit, and clean musk. Maybe some lily of the valley? Some other research shows that Givaudan bought Roure in 1991. I wonder if this was a commemorative bottle from some corporate conference? It smells…nice, but not my style.

Adding to the chorus of good wishes for Robin and her mister. Fingers crossed!

I have exactly ONE CP-compliant fragrance, Jasmin et Cigarette, since my sample of Chergui (which didn’t wear well on me, to my dismay, because I adore the top notes) is all gone. I wore Paris-Deauville today, instead. With two doctors’ appointments this week, I’ll probably do the CP only on Thursday.

But speaking of hay notes: can someone who understands notes better than I do explain why French Lover always says “hay” to me, but hay is not listed as note (at least not o. Fragrantica)? What is my brain (mis)reading as hay?

Robin, I hope you can stay negative and that your husband is feeling better very soon.

I was mostly unscented today since it was back to warm-ish temps. I’m currently in Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse. It’s quite a delicate scent, lovely to wind down at night. Going to check into my options for the CP!

We don’t have any coffee ice cream on hand but I did enjoy a bit of Rolo ice cream for dessert! Not bad!
