Thursday scent of the day 9/1

Posted by Robin on 1 September 2022 139 Comments

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, and welcome to September! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Blackbird Y06-S, because I wore it on September 1st last year.

Reminder: 9/2 is the start of Labor Day weekend. As we did in 2021, take a break from community projects and wear what you want.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Bunny from Lucie Kaas ("Bunny is brought to life with careful attention to details. With droopy ears and a characteristic little nose, Bunny brings us back to the comfort of that bedtime friend") is available in Oak or Smoked Oak, $54.

    Good morning and 🐰🐰🐰!
Sotd is Toy 2 Bubble Gum. I really wish I got the bubble gum note on my skin but instead I smell fruity sweets; fun nonetheless and definitely on the other end of the seriousness scale.
    Drinking rose earl grey.

    Hello NSTers
Fluer de Chine from TF for today…
Also foundation from him (the stick one) and an eyeshadow

Went to the US open yesterday and had the pleasure of watching Matteo Berrettini in one of the bigger courts. Besides being easy on the eyes, he is an amazing player. Mama Mia!

Have you tried this one? I bought the travel set. I love the Almalfi one the best, but this one is growing on me.

Omg those bunnies are cute! I remembered my rabbits when I woke up and looked at the clock at 6. Here’s to good luck.🥂
It’s another gorgeous day here. This week has been perfect!🌞 All the sun is helping to fend off the sads I normally get leading up to taking my girl back to college.

I’m in Scandalwood today. Switched out my perfume tray yesterday in anticipation of the fall season. There. I said it.
In the current rotation: Vanille Insensee, Fleur de Peau, Tam Dao, 10 Corso Como, Scandalwood, Lea, Narciso Rodriguez EDT, VCA Bois d’Iris, Vanille 44, Chergui, Musc Ravageur, Over the Musk, Angelique Noire, Tonka Imperiale, and Feminite de Bois. 15 perfumes in 91 days gives me about 6 wears per perfume. In theory. I did this over the past 3 months with a different group of 15, and discovered that I probably could have spent the entire summer in Chanel Biarritz and no. 5 L’ Eau.

Trying Moon Bloom in the morning this time. Perfectly lovely but not causing swoons like it has been doing in the evenings. Last night I was thinking, ‘I trust this perfume the way I might trust a flower.’ I think it’s something about the ease of sauntering over to a nose-level blossom of an appropriate species that is leaning out a little into sidewalk space and, after a quick check for bees, just inhaling, fearless. Am I afraid of odors? Evidently. Deep down. Depending. I’ve never met a tuberose. From what I hear they’re not necessarily so straightforward to approach. But wow Moon Bloom is.

Each tuberose perfume I have smelled captures facets of the blooming plant. But the botanical is much more complex.

September! Did my rabbits plus extra to go around for those who forgot or just need extra!

I was researching the notes in Hera, and started reading in depth about narcissus absolute (which I own and love) and rabbit hole! Ayala Moriel wrote a great article about it, and I suddenly remembered oh! I should wear her Etrog Oy de Cologne. So, I am!

I will be wearing a heart monitor for the next 2 weeks because I have had a few dizzy spells. Thankfully it’s smaller than the last time I wore one. Since it’s visible, I am hoping it will somehow stop customers from being rude to me. Lol.. it won’t.

Oy! They won’t stop being rude but will ask 20 questions. I hope time flies by quickly.

So I was reading the NYTimes yesterday (note to self: see if I can get the online subscription rate close to $4 again). A woman who recently had surgery somewhere on her body that is bandaged may be exposed but could be hidden with the right clothes. She was wondering if she should expose it and wait for the inevitable questions or hide it. There was no answer because it was really up to her.

      (Possible pay wall)

Echoing Nancyleandros, hope you get some answers from the heart monitor! I’ve done a few of those over the years, my favorite was the Zio patch because it didn’t have all the wires.

Sampling Dame Black Flower Mexican Vanilla EDP over some Dionis Vanilla Bean cream today.

Many thanks for all the supportive comments for my sister-in-law yesterday. She is supposed to start AIM chemotherapy next week inpatient at a hospital next week for a 5 day chemo course then 3 weeks off and another treatment. I hadn’t realized there was inpatient chemo treatment actually but I googled and AIM treatment seems to the be the standard for advanced sarcoma.

Still feeling very sad today with some surging anger as well. 😉 Seems like a rather lot of bad (subjective word I know) things have happened in the last few years on all levels…personal, national, worldwide. 🙁

I don’t know if it will work for her but if there is a concern about losing hair, she could ask for a cold cap – not sure if it is during the chemo infusion only or pretty much throughout her in-patient stay. I hope she does well.

I like it. I tried it in the oil but the EDP is quite different to my nose. I am not really an oil person at the end of the day even when I aspire to be. 😉 I feel like I can almost always smell the oil as distinct from the perfume if that makes sense. I get lovely citrus, cardamom and vanilla from the EDP. I have found all perfumes vanishing quickly on me this summer though and I guess it’s the heat aka global warming…it seems like all perfumes are burning right off me this summer. Have you tried BFMV?

I’m in the new-ish Goutal Eau d’Hadrien EDP this morning, testing my theory that I’ll like it better than the older EDT formulation (which I adore) as fall approaches. The theory is holding — I can feel autumn in the air … even though the daytime temperatures are still above 80f … and the woodiness in the EDP is increasingly noticeable.

I’m testing samples. Yesterday I wore Cockatiel. I had high hopes for it, I love mimosa, and the bottles and juice are so pretty. It ended up a scrubber, too much guaiac wood for me. Today is 19-69 Kasbah, a sweet woody amber. Nice, but not FBW, though I am pretty sure I’ll finish the sample. 19-69 does make travel sizes if I change my mind.

I freaked out after reading your comments about Cockatiel as I ordered it blind – just ordered a sample so I can test it and return it unopened if it’s awful on me. I read such glowing reviews on Facebook I thought it would be safe, plus I love the packaging of the special edition. I should really know better by now not to blind buy.

I agree on Kasbah, pleasant but not FBW.

I was SO happy I ordered a sample first because from the notes it should have been a safe blind buy for me. But my success rate with blind buys is so bad I have learned to always sample first.

Get a sample! Cockatiel is very odd, to my nose. It did smell just like a bird the first minute or two, but then it turned Band-Aid. Maybe you wouldn’t get that note.

We are heading to friends’ place this afternoon for a boat ride followed by dinner. I made a peach tart to bring. https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch-UF99uCpF/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

The weather is stunning. Blue skies, low 80s.

Thinking Le Temps d’une Fête. Maybe Jour Ensolleille. Either way, I’ll smell as gorgeous as the weather. 😂

Wearing the original Omnia today and waiting for my 2nd BUB to arrive. Can’t really complain about the weather in NW Arkansas. It’s staying in the 80’s and around 60 overnight. A little muggy, but could be a lot worse. I’ve been spoiling myself the past several weeks with locally grown peaches and nectarines from the farmers’ market. The orchard’s booth is transitioning over to locally grown apples soon. Fun fact–Arkansas used to be the biggest apple-growing state in the nation.

Started out with Issey Miyake Pleats Please L’Eau – love this one. Just light and easy. Very work friendly, imo. Found FB on fragrancenet for cheap. Worth it!

Now moved on to J-Scent Shaft of Light. Similar vein, a light pretty floral with a fresh linen and skin vibe. Hints of citrus in both. Will drain my sample and then maybe, maybe order a bottle.

Yay, I’m so pleased I remembered to rabbit this morning! To be honest, I only remember when I’m on my phone first thing and see something to remind me it’s the first of the month. It’s a terrible habit to always reach for the phone first thing in the morning.

SOTD sample of Lyric woman. Squeezing in a heady scent before it really heats up this weekend!

Posting late today! I “rabbitted” at 12:11am this morning, after I finished a phone call with my brother. We shall see if the rabbits find this acceptable and good luck heads my way.

I got busy doing some of the things I had ignored yesterday, so today was productive. More cooking and cleaning will be in my future.

SOTD = more Box of Eels EdT. I still have half of my little dabber sample of this one.

SOTD = The Harmonist Royal Earth

The Harmonist line doesn’t get mentioned here much so I am doing my best to spread the word. Royal Earth is a great iris!

I took a slightly later train today and would you believe I got to work EARLIER than when I took the train before (17 minutes earlier). Anyway, that’s mass transit for you.

I am working from home tomorrow because I have a feeling that since the weather will be nice, there will be a good number of train engineer / conductor callouts. Not only is there still a shortage, there are no consequences to this egregious behavior.

In the meantime, I have to figure out why my Apple Watch is not updating the weather for my area – it’s been stuck 75F Partly Cloudy, High of 90 and low of 75. I was astounded that the numbers seem very uniform day after day and then I realized they haven’t changed in the past few days. Oy!

SotD TF Noir. Solid like. Been very busy with home garden work. Great success this year with okra and tomatoes. Lima beans TBD; squash and hot peppers (red Datil) barely okay. We are about to be in a drought, but the temperatures are mild. Happy Friday Eve to all.

Robin! Not sure you’ll see or respond to this late comment, but I just recently bought Y06-S. The thing is, I *loved* the spray sample I had of it but my bottle just doesn’t match up. Something about the synthetic top notes is a bit abrasive to me now, and I had so looked forward to the fb purchase because the banana-like ylang drydown is delicious. Do you love it?

I am extra late because having another beach weekend, but here I am!

I do love it. Possibility…set the bottle aside for a few months, maybe it will age into what you remember of your spray sample? I have had similar things happen with brand new bottles of various fragrances.
