Today I’m taking both my girls for haircuts, then lunch, then pedis for all 3 of us. A proper ladies day. Then tomorrow: IKEA!
We finally(!) watched Top Gun Maverick over the weekend, now that it is available on iTunes. It felt fitting for the final weekend of the summer. I can remember going to see the first the summer before I went away to college. I don’t know where the years have gone…

Top Gun 2 was so fun. I watched it 2x lol. Not sure if Conelly and Cruise had much chemistry though? Just me maybe. What got me teary eyed some was the scene with Val Kilmer as it was a real life scene that he has been through the cancer. I think I saw the 1st one in the theaters too? Back then, I thought Cruise had cooties lolol but did think Goose or- Dr. Green- Lol was cute. I liked the tall, lanky kind of type then. I always thought that guy was cute lol.

Yes, I liked that Val Kilmer was in it too, very touching. I also thought the actor they got to play Goose’s son really reminded me of him!

In Lalique Lalique again, soft and powdery. In better spirits after church and there was a cute guy sitting behind me lol. He is blonde, clean cut and shy. I think shy is cute so..yeah haha. I introduced myself after the teaching..lol. I had a new necklace on, Chanel and was feeling a bit confident lol.
Ooh, there is a cat cafe here! So yay on that. As a reward for cleaning my house-whenever I actually get done with that- I am gunna check it out. There is a fee I think but that is fine with me. I wonder if they have tea though lol. I can bring my own tea bags in haha. Now, if I can just clean up this house…I can rarely find my favorite cleaner since c 19 which is the coconut Clorox. Anyone have any favorite scented cleaners?

Been busy the whole weekend as we had all the rooms at my family appartment repainted, a lot of stuff had to be moved around, packed in boxes etc.
Today the last room is being painted so that’s a relief.

Wearing Eau d’Hadrien. I’ve had the bottle for years but not worn it in quite some time. My topnote has turned 🙁 but that disappears in seconds and I’m left with freshly fingernail-pierced lemon rind morphing into lovage. Do you like lovage? I’ve never been able to make it work in the kitchen, but it’s rather charming on the body, I now think.
I don’t think I have ever come across lovage.
It’s like amped up celery leaves. I think it’s like celery plus anise plus something that growls
I am impressed it is still so good … several AGs do not have long shelf lives.
Interesting to hear that a house has a reputation along those lines. The drydown has been a translucent salty vetiver, so unmistakably so that I can’t shake the impression of Sel de Vetiver throughout the entire evolution. Tomorrow I’ll have to see how that bottle is holding up!
I don’t know about accusing the whole house, but they had a few lighter fragrances like Petite Cherie that had an unusually short shelf life. Don’t know if that is still true! By now I am sure many of the ingredients have changed.

So, I have a bit of a fragrance mystery here – I’m in Bulgari The Vert, or I’m trying to be. It’s disappearing awfully fast! I sprayed it maybe 5 minutes ago, and I can smell it with my nose to my arm, but that’s about it. I’m having the same problem with Hermes Un Jardin Sur le Nil.
Does anyone know if citrus-based fragrances lose their potency with age? Or, could be my nose?
It would make sense that happens..Citruses are a top note and generally, not super long lasting but there are some exceptions here and there.
I believe citrus materials are among the least stable. My guess is it’s not your nose. I wonder what happens if you sniff a citrus fruit?

The few Hermes scents I’ve tried are always very faint and weak to my nose. I think I finally passed my sample of UJSLN along – I never could smell anything like others seemed to get or even much at all (and I note it seems a Robin favorite). I have a little bottle of Jour d’Hermes, and I can enjoy it and smell the citrus and other notes.
Those are not strong scents, and it is true that citrus is less stable…but usually it “turns” rather than fading, and the musks should not lose their potency…so you should still be smelling something.
Adding…unless you are anosmic to one or more of the musk aromachemicals. And I think sometimes that is why one person thinks a fragrance is shorter lived than another person, although obviously there are also other variables, like dry skin and whatnot.
Another cool, grey morning. But for the past few days the fog has burned off and the afternoons have been beautiful. I’m in 19-69 Chronic, which I know will fade by the time I will meet with my PT at 2:30 PM–hopefully!
In news that amounts to serious “squee!” at my end, I purchased a ticket to Spain for late in October–just me traveling alone. I will meet up with an old college pal in Madrid. I am nervous about my health holding up, but otherwise am over the moon. It has been a very long time since I was in Europe, and literally decades since I traveled by myself overseas.

SOTD is Penofin (deck stain). Hair treatment of the day is red Penofin highlights. We got out early to finish staining the back deck before it warms up… trying to finish (more or less) the ongoing back deck refresh before the forecasted big heat wave hits at the end of the week.
So the staining part is done, yay! Now to reassemble the railings…
I’m not sure what Perofin deck stain smells like but you are so impressive with all of your DIY house projects!

We may be doing the surface next summer. Right now, it’s the stairs and railings, which is painful enough. I would love to be able to convince DH to hire someone for the surface work, which includes adding joists in each bay. So. Much. Work.
Just got home to San Diego after the hell of the last two weeks of packing and moving. Didn’t wear any perfume because I was so stressed. But now we are back to our regularly scheduled fragrantness. 🙂 i’m in Dusita Moonlight in Chiangmai. It has a bit of a men’s cologne vibe but I don’t mind that.

Today’s SOTD is both Fat Electrician (so happy to finally get this one) and a test of Bitter Peach. BP was a reckless blind-buy but I’ve been obsessing to find a peach or apricot cantered perfume for years and I think it will do the trick. Plus I do love the mechanism of these Tom Ford travel sprays. Little things go a long way to make me happy!

Alaia is a floral musk. I looked up the notes and was shocked to see that it contains peony, which is usually one of my perfume note nemeses. There is a mineral note that I do not smell in cooler weather that pops out when I wear it in hot weather.
