Wednesday scent of the day 8/24

Posted by Robin on 24 August 2022 154 Comments

It's Wednesday, plus National Peach Pie Day, National Waffle Day, International Strange Music Day and Pluto Demoted Day. Literary birthdays: Max Beerbohm, Jean Rhys, Jorge Luis Borges, A.S. Byatt, Paulo Coelho de Souza, Oscar Hijuelos. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Paul Smith Story, which would be the perfect introductory vetiver if it was still in production.

Reminder: on 8/26 we're doing It's difficult, part 1...wear a fragrance that you'd recommend as a good introduction to a note that some people find difficult.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

National Waffle Day? Well, you don’t have to tell *me* twice! I don’t have Demeter Waffles, but I do have their (unaccountably discontinued) Waffle Cone, which I just put on and which is *shockingly* accurate, like you just stepped into a Cows Ice Cream in Charlottetown, all vanilla and toasty grain.

    Sycomore SOTD
2 pieces or raisin bread toasted and two coffees

Just back from 18 days in Canada. Had a great time! Traveled around NS, visited my in-laws and visited Niagra on the Lake for the first time sans kids. Caught a show at the Shaw festival

I read The Personal Librarian and now re-reading a classic Jane Eyre

Home with the kiddos full time until school starts, except for one afternoon when I volunteer.

Whoa, what a beautiful photo. But I don’t wanna think about autumn yet.
I’m back in Neroli Outrenoir. My sample is close to being thunked.
I was sleeping so well when my alarm went off this morning. But it’s Wednesday which means my week is half way done already. Plus, the sun is out.🌞😎

I’m in Week-end in Normandy. I bought this pretty much unsniffed, although I had a sample of Week-end a Deauville at one time. I love that Nicolai had smaller bottles for most of her fragrances. This is certainly worth the relatively minimal price. I really like it.

    Good morning!
First of all, thank you so much for the good luck and encouragement yesterday! My presentation went well and I didn’t have too much trouble with the questions. Yay.
Now sotd, it is Chanel No.5.
I have been watching youtube videos and gosh, holiday make up is coming soon. I am definitely interested in some of them.

My mother said that vintage BaV was very me along with Lyric. Good thing that I have loads of both. Spent most of the morning cleaning while in Gucci Guilty. Smells too much like Shea butter and I am not a fan. I am not getting the sexy part that many other reviewers have said. Maybe I am too used to BaV and MKK. Getting into the shower and will be wearing Kyoto whenI get out and dig out Sycomore.

I like GG, but also don’t find it to be sexy; it smells like a Modern Perfume, which I can go along with. I love Bal a Versailles so much – it was one of the first vintage classics I sniffed, and I think it made my nose smarter about traditional perfumes.

Commando so far, for no good reason aside from sheer laziness. But I wore Encre Noire at bedtime last night and it was gorgeous as always. Not an introductory vetiver, methinks — more of a challenge. Paul Smith Story sounds wonderful! Too bad I missed that window of opportunity.

Paul Smith Story is really good but I admit I bought it at least partially because of the fun bottle.

If you liked Story you could graduate into Encre Noire, and that’s a great bottle too!

Going with Idyll edp for some CP points. It helped me like freesia, which does not normally sit well with me. It is also a good introduction to lily. I only got it because of the lovely OG issue bottle and because I am a Guerlain fangirl. I feel like I can always find something to like in a Guerlain.

Having another very lazy morning, which is the best kind of morning imo. Slept well last for the first time in a while, but still feel a bit fatigued. Was planning on wearing one of the perfumes I wear less frequently like Salomè or Cologne pour le Soir, but my hand went unerringly to Fils de Dieu so that’s what I’m sporting this morning.

This would be a great introduction to gourmand fragrances because it just sticks its toe over the line into that category. When most people think of gourmand perfumes, I think they tend to identify them as sweet or reminiscent of a dessert. Fils is certainly not that. It’s quite unisex, warm and welcoming, unpretentious and approachable, and an all around fabulous fragrance. Just my opinion though…☺️

Thank you, it’s one of my favorites as everyone here knows! Can you ask your hubby to randomly bring you a couple small bottles and switch them out with what you have with you on weekly basis, or something like that? You’d have no idea what he might grab and the element of surprise may be something to look forward to…

    SOTD = Chanel No. 5 L’eau

It’s more of an intro to No.5 and flankers.

I got a letter from NYState asking me to substantiate further, on company letterhead, about why NYState taxes were withheld (and they owe me a big refund). For the $s, it is worth it for me to go through it because I already paid the NJ portion of it, which NJ happily cashed rather quickly.

My commuting nightmare yesterday was probably for the best because all the trains behind us were delayed by 30 to 90 minutes and they only talk about delays getting out of Penn Station AFTER many trains were cancelled (i.e. it’s not a delay if the train is cancelled 🤔). We almost had a panic attack and thank God someone was able to talk her down relatively quickly as there literally was nowhere to go although 2 people managed to maneuver themselves outside of the train; the conductor said good luck to them as there was poison ivy everywhere. A woman was announcing that she has a hot flash and was going through all sorts of paper towels (and I say, just mention it once and then shut up because we do not need to hear when you’ve managed to soak another paper towel).

I learned one very important thing which I would have never thought to myself: when reboarding a train, one has to get off the first train, get down to the ground, then reboard the other train without touching the first train. It’s not that they don’t trust us as I would rather be safe than to witness a person be electrocuted!

I suppose a nightmare commute where no one was hurt was the best outcome, maybe except for the two who left the train into poison ivy central.

Wow, that train story is very scary! What would they do about a disabled person such as I am these days? Yikes. Once I was stuck in an elevator with three or four other people, and one of them panicked and started jumping up and down to make it move! We had some trouble trying to convince him that wasn’t the best strategy.

There were EMTs that went through the train to ask if anyone needed help about 25 minutes before the rescue train came. The jump down was difficult and the step up was high so I would imagine that they would have had to provide a ramp of some type or you may have to be carried.

I’m wearing Mandarine Basilic today, and reporting that the Great Garage Cleanout and Organization is completed. Everything is grouped together in ways that make sense to me. I saved glass yogurt jars and put screws, nails, bolts, and little bits of hardware in them and bought pegboard fasteners to get the garden tools off the floor. It looks wonderful.

Had a horrible, no good, very bad night, the kind where anxiety and adrenaline turn one’s tummy on fire and cause nausea. It is so annoying when this happens as intellectually I understand what is going on is totally not productive, but as the clock ticks from 3 AM to 4 to 5 to 6 to 7 and I feel worse and worse . . .

Anyway. Hoping for a better rest tonight.

I’m in Patchouli 1969. It does raise the question: What patchouli-forward fragrance would be a good option for someone new to trying out the note? I don’t think this one, unless headshop is a winning proposition.

Oh boy, I hope you get better sleep tonight! As for patchouli, I suggest Solstice Scents Estate Vetiver which to me smells more like patchouli than vetiver.

Oh sorry about that bad night. I have those a lot too. If it gets to 4 a.m. I just go ahead and get up and start watching the morning news shows. Who knew they come on at that hour? Whew. Luckily for me, being retired I can usually go back to bed when it seems I’m finally ready to sleep, which seems to be around 8 am. Crazy.

I too have been trying to come up with a patchouli scent for this week’s CP. If I do, you’ll read about it on Friday!

27C a beautiful day but we need more rain.

Chose Cologne du Parfumeur, long gone but lovely while it lasted, tonight it’s vintage Miss Dior esprit de parfum.

EL Tuberose Gardenia again today — six sprays of it, even — perhaps in anticipation of tomorrow being a commando day (medical appointments).

Am pondering putting myself forward for a fairly big new role at work. If I do so and am selected, I’ll know by early next week. The potential is exciting but also quite stressful.

I’m in Coco Noir today, which barely works with the rainy but warm weather. Still wearing through my Chanel samples. I was in Beige yesterday and Misia the day before. Thankfully, neither one really stirred up any lemmings, but both were lovely, especially Misia.

Happy hump day, everyone. Y’all are smelling just wonderful! 🤗

Buy it at Macys and don’t open it. They will gladly take your return (even if the package was opened but I wouldn’t do that unless I was truly allergic).

It’s been a crazy last month, but I made it through new carpet plus guests plus camping plus retirement (as of Monday). I’m celebrating in a sample of Pichola today thanks to the lovely Allo. Looks like I’ll have no trouble filling my time as Mr. SP is already saying, “now that you’re retired…” –we have no shortage of projects around here.

I’m also making the yearly peach coconut cake for youngest son’s bday. (It might sound a bit funny, but it’s just a homemade yellow cake with browned butter frosting, then sliced peaches and toasted coconut on top of both layers.) Quite yummy (and my sort-of contribution to National Peach Pie Day)!

Still in L’Heure de Nuit from a decant I wish would never empty lol.

Kind of psychologically blah from hearing of something about a different country..which I definitely won’t get into cause I know this isn’t the place for it. But I think a waffle cone is in order…it’s cooler today so..probably a good day for it. Waffle cone therapy:). Waffle cones for everyone. Turning frowns upside down:)🍦

I vote for ice cream all around, always!!

I completely splurged on ice cream this week, and last night had a mix of Jeni’s Darkest Chocolate with Nancy’s Fancy Roasted Banana Gelato with Bourbon Pecan Praline. Pretty darned good. I had never tried the Nancy’s Fancy brand before. It does have a price to match the name.

I am going to have this combo. Roasted banana with chocolate? My fave. And gelato is soo good. There is a place called Waffleatto down in south here and it’s waffle cones with gelato. The pictures look divine. It’s a bit too far from me and in the end, I decided a bag of choco cookies was a quick fix until I hit up ice cream. For a convenience store fix..Nestle Toll House ice cream sandwiches..which I had delivered last week..which arrived melted…(I still ate them) lol

Wood Sage and Sea Salt today. Thanks to everyone for the good wishes yesterday – they really cheered me up.

Today I’ve spent a lot of time on the deck watching hummingbirds. There’s so many, and they buzz around like little emerald green helicopters. So beautiful.

I am now officially my daughter’s guardian! Everything went smoothly and quickly. Thanks for all the crossed fingers!
My sotd started as TF Soliel Blanc. This afternoon we went to the mall and I tried the new YSL Libre parfum. Surprise surprise I like it. It’s not very spicy but is heavy on the vanilla. The lavender is there but toned down. It’s very cozy smelling. I am not a fan of the other versions. It got to 87 degrees today. Hanging on to summer with all I have. 🌞

I had a lot of big $$ dental work done this afternoon (spent a long 3 hours in the chair). So I didn’t wear much scent but just a light mist on my arm of Sous le Vent. It’s gone now, I should reapply. I love these scents that combine an herb with a citrus note. Also I love the bottle design! Should wear it more often. My dentist is a jewel–a calm kind person who helps me get through these things with gentleness and consideration. I had so many previous dentists who traumatized me. One lesson I’ve learned is, don’t have a male dentist if you can find a good female alternative, because it’s so much better to be worked on by someone with small hands!

In Ruby Woo now from a blind buy bottle..for the cherry note. It’s a nice fruit..with some leather. Idk if I like cherry leather but it fit my mood..and the cherry note was a cheery pick me up.

Ruby Woo could be an intro to leather? Idk..my into to leather was Cuirelle(sp?) by Ramon Monegal..a company that has super customer service and communication(not affiliated). It was just cool when I emailed asking about some fragrances /samples..and Ramon’s son (i forgot his name ugh) emailed me. Pretty cool. Nice people that make some good scents. Particularly, Ambra Di Luna. My cap broke off my bottle though. Lol.
