That’s a great vacation pre-game plan.
It’s a gloomy, rainy day and I’m in Lady Gaga Fame, which is kind of a fruity floral but dark and mysterious and just a little bit weird, which I like a lot. If Serge Lutens had ever been asked to create a celebuscent, it would be this one.
I did not like Fame much, but I thought it would sell better than it did, and at least generate a few flankers. I wonder if her new beauty line is selling?
Same thoughts about Fame. I wonder what the most successful celeb scent is…I am guessing maybe White Diamonds?

In better-to-go-commando news: I totally forgot that I had a PT appointment in the early afternoon yesterday when I applied copious amounts of two different rose-centered perfumes. My therapist said she couldn’t smell my perfume (she WAS wearing a mask though), but when I entered the waiting room, another PT came in immediately and started opening windows!

Since it is supposed to be below 90 degrees today, I chose Safran Troublant, instead of my recently ubiquitous galbanum scents. This one should be great if we get a cool fall, as the Farmer’s Almanac predicted, but it is not right for today’s warm humidity.
That one is really great for fall. Why did they discontinue it?!
I’m in SL A La Nuit to continue my jasmine jag. This probably wouldn’t be a good introduction to jasmine but I love it.

Jasmine jag, lol, I love it. Actually I am not a huge jasmine fan and A La Nuit was one of the first jasmine perfumes I tried and I really liked it. It’s soft on me though.
I can’t handle jasmine that’s heavily indolic but this one strikes the perfect balance.

I’m happy to report that my niece had a happy healthy baby boy last night! Both are doing well and I will get to visit hopefully this weekend.
My sotd is Black Orchid. There was a crisp fall air this morning that made me want to wear it. The temperature will rise to about 80 later.
Tomorrow morning my daughter and I go before a judge to request my guardianship for her. Fingers crossed it all goes quickly and smoothly.
Very exciting about your niece. I will be thinking about you tomorrow morning and hoping very much that it goes smoothly and that through the process you are respected and made to feel like the incredible mother that you are.

The note that today is the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and Its Abolition pretty much stopped me cold.
SOTD is Paris-Deauville. It’s not hot here at all, but it is so very very humid (we are getting some much-needed gentle and steady rain) that everything I touch — papers, textiles, the wooden banister — is damp or sticky.
I hate that damp feeling. Especially bare feet on floors. Yuck. You picked a good one for the humidity, you smell great!

I’m staying with my father-in-law for a few weeks during his first round of chemo. It’s so odd being in a familiar house that isn’t my own, and to be here without my husband is even stranger. I brought only three perfumes with me, so today I’m in Wood Sage and Sea Salt. I’ve been wearing it during the day and then alternating the other two for bedtime.
I hope everyone is well, and look forward to catching up on old posts. Just needed a digital break for a while.

The night scents are Sana Jardin’s Revolution de Fleur and Act + Acre’s Rebalancing Scent. One is a lovely floral bomb and the other an earthy violet/ patchouli/ iris/ amber combo. Bet you can’t guess which is which…

You Shall Wear What You Decant, so my SOTD is Shalimar Parfum Initial L’Eau, which is CP-adjacent in that it’s a good intro-to-Shalimar for those of us who have a hard time getting along with the grand lady. Of course it’s discontinued.

A gorgeous sunny morning here, will try to get out for a short hike today. I walked the track leading to the campground yesterday and picked some wild blackberries that I had with lunch, but I was exhausted after. The blackberries were fat, juicy, and warmed by sun although I think they’re just about done, only a few still on the bush ripening. I was exhausted after, like I had done a multi mile hike. I just interviewed for my next contract which will start the end of September so I need to get my game back. 🥾

I’m in Neroli Outrenoir for teapot Tuesday. It’s also taco Tuesday in our house.
My college daughter got a mixtape for her birthday from one of her friends. I asked her how she was going to listen to it and she said she had no idea. Good thing I kept my 1985 Sony Walkman. lol. I had no idea kids still made mixtapes but I think that’s pretty cool.
I might have my Walkman in the basement. I know I have a ton of cassette tapes.
We don’t have many cassettes anymore.☹️ Lots of cd’s and albums though. I am impressed that the Walkman is about 40 years old and still works!
I kept mine because it has a radio… great for when the power goes out and you want to know what’s going on without wasting the charge on your phone or tablet. 🤓

SOTD is Avignon. I feel like this (or really any of the CdG incenses) would be a good intro to incense.
I’m staring at a pile of stuffies that I have to throw out. I’m struggling with this, and they’ve been in my office for forever, but they aren’t the ones the kid wants to keep and we don’t have space to keep more than a box or so of stuffies for the long term, and of course you can’t give them away. This is very hard for me, though, somehow…I feel like their time should not be over. I just have to get the bag, take a deep breath, and do it, I guess.

Huh — you made me stop and think there, which is good! I’ve been a part of a number of parent swap / sell groups where stuffies are banned, so I assumed they were banned across the board. But, now that I Google it, apparently some charities will take them!
I think the argument against reselling / donating stuffies is that you aren’t supposed to wash most stuffies and so they aren’t really “clean” and could be coming with bugs of all sorts.
That said, some of these stuffies haven’t really been touched by my daughter since just after they were bought, and if I can find a charity to give them to, I’m going to do it. Thank you for making me question that, lillyjo!
pbi…you may be able to donate them to an animal shelter. My dog does not discriminate when it comes to stuffed animals. Doesn’t even have to make sounds. 😉

Inspired by others’ incense perfumes, I’ve decided on Armani Privé Encens Satin today. It’s probably a gentle introduction to incense, it’s not as austere as some.
I’ll have to try it!
SotD is CdG Kyoto. So many folks in incense today! I thought this would be nice on an overcast, humid, but cool day.
I would pick this as my choice for an intro incense for the incense-averse like me, lol! It doesn’t give me church-incense shudder.

I’m having the same smoothie, frozen mango and yogurt.
Was hesitating this morning between AC Vanille Insensée and Laura Mercier Eau Gourmande Vanillé. Chose the latter but as it turned out it was pretty humid today although the temperature wasn’t particularly hot (24C) and I pined for something citrussy. Tonight it’s Angel Men, sweet but with refreshing mint.
I’m having smoothie envy over here! I used to make them all the time for breakfast or after a spin class. I’ve heard good things about that LM vanilla. I think it might be discontinued though…
You could start having them again why not, I got myself a blender for Xmas, it’s so easy and delicious.
The Laura Mercier Eau Gourmande Vanille seems to be still available online here in the UK but I see more Ambre Vanille being sold and it’s not the same, sort of coconuty and annoying as Lillyjo put it.
I’m wearing the very cheerful and inoffensive Osmanthe Yunnan today. I was going to wear Quartana Wolfsbane, from a Sniffapalooza event sample, but I figured it might be a little too much for my students if I was wafting a “Beastly, psychedelic blend of absinthe, dark wood, black truffles, and spiced plum.”

I’m in Iris 39 today. To me it’s a good intro to iris since it’s not overly rooty.
I never liked that one, but Angie did, and I always thought it was interesting how rarely our iris taste intersected…all the iris scents I love, she doesn’t like 🙂

Oh boy! Far be it for me to complain … my original train DID NOT PASS GO because of a door that wouldn’t close. We were then all redirected to another train which then had two trainloads of people. The train we got on hit overhead wires and became disabled – we did not even get to the first stop!
I have been in the NJ Transit train system for over two hours but which felt like double that. We just boarded another train in the middle of nowhere, literally. All I know is this train is at least going to the next stop. If they were smart, they would let this train go its usual route.
I better NOT get COVID because of this. I’ve been masked up.

I wore Tzigana today, it’s a very lovely and comforting fragrance. Wanted to share this timelapse video with all of you, given the day of remembrance. It is a graphic animation based on a scholarly database that lists all the known slave-trading voyages across the Atlantic. It shows the flow of ships from Africa to North and South America over years. The dots flowing across the map are sized to show the number of enslaved people on each ship.
