Six questions for National Lemonade Day. As always, answer as many or as few as you like, or just talk about something else.
1. What fragrance are you wearing today?
2. What's your favorite lemon-centric fragrance, if you have one?
3. What's your favorite lemon-centric body product, if you have one?
4. What holy grail fragrance are you still looking for?
5. What's blooming in your local area at the moment?
6. Share something wonderful with us! It can be anything — the most fun thing you did this summer (or winter), something delicious you ate, your latest binge-worthy TV series, the last good book you read, any fabulous news you recently received — really, anything…

1) YSL Nu, in the amethyst gunmetal hockey puck. So strange and fascinating.
2) I Profumi di Firenze Limone di Sicilia concentrato. It is a pure burst of Italian sunshine.
5) The city has started putting in all the fall plants in public places, and so downtown is a riot of purple salvia (and other things I don’t recognize by sight). That, and my nicotiana grudgingly offered another couple of flowers. I was hoping for a mad profusion of them but I’ll take what I can get.
My seed-grown marigolds acted like your nicotiana this year! And I am not sure which packet they came from. They made beautiful dark green foliage, though. I had a few other marigolds I got at Wally World and they were the ones that gave me the coveted mad profusion.
Nu is such a great perfume, you smell wonderful!
I second this! I just love Nu.
And I’d like to try that iPdF lemon perfume.
1. Lady Million fabulous… testing to see if I like it
3. A bar soap from a now out of business little shop in NS that smells like lemon meringue pie… boo.
4. Cherry that doesn’t smell like candy/cough syrup and also a perfume that smells like a micronesian ginger lei
5. My sunflowers, echinacea and mixed wildflowers
6. Made melt and pour soaps with my niece while she was here for a visit. We made 3 different kinds and she took home a pile soaps to use and give away as gifts.
What a fun and fragrant activity
It was a blast. Next time I hope to have more options for her in terms of colors, scents and inclusions. She really liked the idea of bringing home gifts she made. 🙂
I liked the cherry in Guerlain Black Perfecto – have you tried that?
No, will have to put it on the sniff list. Thanks 🙂
SOTM (and most likely the rest of the day because I’m enjoying it so much) is Bucoliques de Provence — so beautiful.
Favorite lemon-centric perfumes … Eau de Hadrien, Escale a Portofino, and of course Mediterraneo. I’d be hard-pressed to choose only one as ultimate bestie. No body products, but if ShiKai comes out with a lemon-something body wash I’ll definitely investigate it.
It’s been so hot and dry here that nothing is blooming in the wild, as it were, but my roses are happy now that I’ve remembered to fertilize them. One that has been very unhappy for years is thriving since I moved it from a large planter to the actual ground. And that ground is terrible soil! Go figure.
Something wonderful … well, for the second time ever, last night Mr. G asked me to spritz him with something he might like. He never wears fragrance, so this is a very interesting development! I gave him Knize Ten, and sadly, he did not care for it — too strong, he says. But it’s a start!
I wish ShiKai did lemon! I bought their starfruit and don’t love it.
Happy to hear about your roses, mine are not terribly happy and I should probably send them to you 😉
It’s late in the year now, but you could probably still see some benefit from rose food. Mine is really old but it’s made by the same people who make the Schultz’s indoor plant food, only specifically for roses. It’s a liquid that you just mix with water, and it has worked miracles with my formerly lackluster roses. If all else fails, send them to me — I’ll adopt them! 😆
I’m sure you are right. I am possibly the laziest gardener ever, but I am slapping my wrist and nagging myself right now 🙂
Wow, Mr. G asking for a fragrance to wear! That’s definitely a exciting! Too bad he didn’t like Knize Ten. 🙁 I love the ol’ Tabac. If you ever want to try it on him, I’ll send you a decant from my huge bottle. 😉
He tends to like foody sorts of scents, and he has no patience to wait for an initial spray to settle. He likes Knize Ten on me … but of course he experiences it after the alcohol has burned off. I need one for him that smells like cinnamon rolls or something. 🤣
Cinnabons! 😄
Maybe Ambre Narguile?
LOL! He would love that one!
1. C.O. Bigelow Lemon Leaf
2. See #1 😉
5. Not much blooming here, except my basil, which I need to fix so it keeps growing leaves.
6. Been re-reading Connie Willis’s Doomsday Book (hit a bit harder than I remembered from pre-covid days), Blackout, and All Clear. Still great. Watched the season opener for Making the Cut last night, fun.
What a week… took a tumble after getting tangled up in the extension cord for the lawn tools (remember how I said I wished they were battery operated???) and I am discovering new bruises every day. Thankfully no major damage, just lots and lots of technicolor ouches.
Ouch! Glad the bruises are the worst of it. Hope they clear up quickly.
Glad it wasn’t worse!!
I hope you are getting lots of sympathy and you feel better soon.
Ow! Dang it. Darn cords!
Yeeek! Glad that it wasn’t worse than bruises!
Oh dear Pixel, glad you did not break anything.
Oh no! Glad it was only bruises.
Glad to hear you’re okay!
Ouch, so glad no bones were broken.
Ow! So glad it’s just bruises.
And you smell cheerful today – hope it’s helping.
1. Carthusia Mediterraneo
2. See #1
5. My tuberose bulbs…if you love tuberose, highly recommend planting some, they are wonderful and 1 stalk in a vase perfumes a whole room (and they do last very well after cutting)
We are off shortly for our first trip to the mall since covid, and then we’re going to do a bike ride if it isn’t too hot…I will come back and answer #6 tonight or tomorrow morning.
First visit since Covid! That’s huge – hope you enjoy
Congratulations on your tuberoses, the scent must be out of this world.
It is all thanks to Kevin, who told me how to grow them. And it worked even though I cut corners 😉
That’s so great! Will you tell us?
I don’t care for tuberose soliflores at all, but I bought a cut stem once and it was heavenly.
Kevin’s husband starts the bulbs in individual containers, and then you have to keep them moist but not wet until you put them outdoors. I think more people overwater at that point than underwater. They are apparently very susceptible to rot.
I am lazy and did not have adequate containers. I had 10 bulbs and put in 3 large containers. We already had plant lights so I put the lights on when I remembered…and turned them off at night when I remembered. But you do not need the lights! You just need to keep them someplace reasonably warm.
I did not have to worry much about rot because I kept forgetting they were in the basement at all. I said below I planted in February but now I see that was wrong, it was April…I think they don’t even ship them until March or April.
When it warms up, you can leave them outside when it’s over 60. As soon as it was around 70 during the day I started putting them out and bringing them in at night, then once it was 60 at night, I left them out.
Once they are outdoors they need plenty of water…mine have needed every or nearly every day watering. They also need lots of full sun. My front porch is too shaded so I have them on the steps leading to the porch, in full sun.
Mine are overcrowded. I have consistent blooms since they went outside but I bet I would have more if I had used more pots.
Oh, I would love the scent of tuberose around the house!
I ordered from “Old House Gardens — Heirloom Bulbs” in Michigan, Mexican tuberose and Pearl Double Tuberose, and planted them in February under lights indoors, moved outside after night temperatures above 60.
The bulbs arrived with an apology…said they were a bit moldy, but not to worry they would grow fine, and indeed they did.
Correction: March or April, not February.
Never smelled fresh tuberose..which is a hit or miss note for me. Speaking of BWF and tuberose..I had a dream last night I was dousing myself in old school Primo spray lol(which I used to wear a ton back in the day) lol and attracted a dashing man. Lol maybe I should whip out a can of Primo and see if anything happens LOL. Primo was the rip off body spray..version of Georgio Beverly Hills. I actually still like it some:).
I love Georgio! And I think I’d like Primo, too. I am sure I smelled both “back in the day.”
I had never smelled it either!
I have also never heard of Primo!
I remember the commercials for that–“If you like Giorgio, you’ll love Primo!”
I was lucky enough to smell tuberose stems at the Philadelphia Flower Show one year. Incredible!!!
Ah, see, you were ahead of me. I had never smelled tuberose fresh.
1. Cristalle Eau Verte, topped a few hours later by Acqua di Parma Arancia di Capri from a sample. The Acqua di Parma was fine at first, but it has quickly left me with shampoo scented skin. I’ve tried it on its own and had a similar reaction, so it’s not a consequence of the layering.
6. I made these brownies for the potluck last night, making them gluten free for the first time (the tahini I use is GF anyway, but I substituted our store brand 1:1 GF all-purpose flour). It’s not a difficult recipe but takes a good hour from start until it goes into the oven. Very very sweet (I use a slightly darker chocolate than specified, 74%) and rich; I bake in a 9” square pan and cut it into 36 pieces. People who enjoy sweets generally adore these.
https://www.splendidtable.org/story/2017/10/10/tahini-and-halva-brownies
How are you were liking the Cristalle eau Verte? Is it a necessity? Asking for a friend..
😀
Thanks for the recipe, skalolazka. Sounds fabulous!
Good afternoon and happy weekend!
1. Sotd is BR540 extrait.
2. MFK Aqua Celestia Forte
4ish. Looking for a beautiful violet scent so I am VERY excited for the new Hermes.
Ooh yeah, looking forward to the new Hermessence as well… I do hope it is a good one.
Don’t have any lemon perfume loves but really enjoy The Bodyshop showergel Lemon.
In Bigarade Concentree today. Still in bed most of the day recovering from postCovid fatigue etc. The Netflix series The Maid has been keeping me company and Sali Hughe’s book Pretty Iconic about famous beauty products. Lots of perfume in it too ❤️
I hope your energy returns. Glad you can rest today.
You smell wonderful Yasmina! Hope you feel better soon.
Oh, no! I didn’t hear you’d been stricken with Covid – your book and movie and bedrest combo sounds like a sure-fire path to getting better! I’m going to check out Pretty Iconic. I am way out of the loop on all the perfume books mentioned on NST, except the scent organ in Brave New World and Dorian Gray’s immersion in the pleasures of scent. I hope each day finds you stronger.
It’s a really fun read and trip down cosmetic beauty lane!
Sending you healing vibes!
Yasmina, when did you first get sick? I seem to remember you were abroad, earlier this summer?
It took my sister weeks to get her energy back. Do take it easy.
Yes I was abroad all of July and Covid was my welcome home present apparently so it’s only been three weeks, which from what I’m hearing isn’t too long to feel unwell. But I usually recover from a virus really quickly so it’s unnerving. Glad your sister got better eventually!
I know a few people who were sick less than 48 hours, but I know more people who took weeks and weeks to feel 100% better. Whatever it takes, be good to yourself! No sense overdoing it.
Feel better soon!
I hope you feel better soon!
I loved a fragrance called Kiku by Fabrege? from the 60s. It was in a cheery bright yellow bottle and was citrusy/lemony. It went well with my mini skirts and white boots.
Lemon bars from any bakery will do the trick. I also loved anything I ate when we lived in Greece that had lemons in it. Especially from my tree in my yard in my little white house with blue shutters.
My holy grail fragrance might already be at my house – Indochine. But who knows what is around the corner!
11.5 hours sweet sleep.
Sleep envy!
Same!
Ooooooooh, lemon bars! 😋🍋
I remember Kiku! It still pops up on eBay every now and then.
Love lemon bars too!
Happy Weekend everyone!
1.)Chanel No.5 Sensual Elixer. It’s a gorgeous all-over bodygel and I’ve been wafting happily all day!
2.)Vintage Monsieur Balmain in the bright yellow bottle.Bitter lemony goodness!
3.)I’ve got really sensitive finnicky skin so breakouts on my shoulders and legs happen too often to mess with any other products than my staple bodycare.
4.)I’m yet to replace Phi une Rose,it’s my holy grail Rose perfume
5.)Spring is starting slowly but surely!Glad to see leaves on trees, and my rockroses make these tiny little bell-shaped flowers that’s always a good sign that Spring is juuust around the corner!
6.)I’m doing well after the accident and I am thankful for no serious issues after it.
You guys probably know that I am NOT a fan of Winter,so I am so so glad that it’s almost done
I watched The Sandman on Netflix and it was visually stunning, although the subject matter made me slightly uncomfortable.
Today was a day of chores and errands, now I’m on my bed relaxing with a big bag of Lay’s Caribbean onion and balsamic vinegar potato chips,Joni Mitchell’s Hejira album in the background.
XO’s!🌹✌🏻
I went looking for Vendetta yesterday but no luck…boo hoo. But still one more place to check out. I saw that Hermes had a nice purple polish, but no sparkles, which is a deal breaker.
Glad you are mending! And spring!!!!!
Oh no,sorry you could not try Vendetta,I hope they still make it!
Twins on #3 so I don’t even tempt fate!
I’m with you there!
that elixer is a great one. So is hijera.
An absolute YES on both accounts from me as well!
So glad to hear you’re doing well after your accident, JB.
Wishing you a fabulous spring!
Thank you adanst,Spring makes me deliriously happy!
🌹🥳
Your comment is so buoyant, I want to come over and hang out. I’ll bring coffee and sit on the rug listening along with you!
Come on over!
We’ll talk smack about brands we hate and sniff EVERYTHING in the collection too!Haha!✌🏻🌹🤗💛
Sounds like a fine end to your day – Phi is contending as my HG rose, too. And wacky potato chip flavor twin: my weakness is Utz Crab Chips, which use Old Bay seafood boil seasoning. 🙂
I went looking for Vendetta nail polish after the conversation here, and alas, it seems to have been d/c’ed long ago here.
Just as well. I have a nail polish stash in addition to the perfume stash!
Ah, I was trying to decide if I would watch Sandman. I do like Gaiman and loved the Good Omens series but I think this might be darker?
I read a few of the Sandman graphic novels. They could get rather dark. So consider the source material…
Thanks Jalapeno. I have read some of his books but not the graphic novels. I am not up for dark lately, so will put it on the “watch much later” list 🙂
And will add … Good Omens was dark, but in a cheerful sort of way, ha.
Sorry to hear you had an accident! Glad you are okay
1. Commando
2. Eau de Hadrien
3. Sexy Peel soap- Lush
4. Guerlain discontinued my holy grails
5. Various desert blooms
6. Something delicious..the grilled cheese with egg, avocado and bacon I had last week. Now I want to order another one lol. Or the lemonade frosted sugar cookie from Crumbl Cookie mmm.
It’s always so disappointing when they discontinue something you love.
The blooms sound lovely and that sandwich sounds delicious… lol, I think I am hungry now as well.
Wearing Assam of India today. Woke at a local cheersery/winery here in Tillamook, Oregon and about to go make a purchase or two. 😋 Beautiful grounds and free overnighting on their expansive property. I’ve been here several times and it’s great to see them doing so well and expanding in today’s economy. 🥰
Drama free morning except I HAD to clip the dogs nails because I haven’t kept up the last couple of weeks. She hates it, and every time we finish, she sniffles and licks each toe as if counting to make sure she still has them all. 🙄
No lemon fragrances that I know of in my ittybitty collection. Probably the closest is the lime in Ninfeo Mio. Lemon is not a huge draw for me for some reason, maybe because most are more sweet than refreshing to me.
If you’re ever in Tillamook, stop by this place:
https://www.instagram.com/p/Chdsp1JLroe/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Hi Deva!
I have never been to Oregon (nor can I open your link since I don’t have an instagram account) but that sounds like a lovely place.
It so happens that I recently discovered the Tillamook ice cream which is sold at one of the chain grocery stores here in Atlanta ( I know you’re familiar with Publix, having lived in Florida). I’ve so far tried their mint chocolate chip and salted caramel and both were fantastic. In fact I just had some for lunch today.
I hope you are feeling better following your recent health scare and surgical procedure. I’ve not had a chance to comment but have been thinking about you.
Also, if ever you run out of Le Lion and want more, please email me. I have some to spare 😊
Thanks for your kind wishes! I’m doing great, post-operatively, thank you for asking. I stayed in town for a good week and a half after surgery out of an abundance of caution. I was quite a surprised to learn the surgeon actually called to check on me overnight because he was that concerned. Never heard of such a thing, even having been a nurse for 30 some odd years and working ICU for 6! Anyway, with his skill and the care of some excellent residents and nurses, I seemed to have dodged a very ugly bullet! 😬
Tillamook Creamery is of course here in Tillamook Oregon and quite popular, available nationwide now. I was at a smaller place called Blue Heron French Cheese Company which is a much smaller than Tillamook. They are quite friendly towards travelers and animals, so I love to stop if I’m in the area and give them some business. I’m currently looking forward to a To Go lunch I purchased this morning at one of their shops. Yesterday when I got there, I made a beeline for some Oregon Marionberry Ice Cream, which was delish! Enjoy your ice cream and thank you so much for your kindness!
I’m very glad to hear that you’re fine, particularly as you seem to have had a close shave.
I know others have mentioned that as well with this fragrance, but I get zero lemon, all tea.
Sorry, meant this for CM8 below! 👇🏼
To me Assam is a lemon fragrance more so than tea or sandalwood
Originally from and born in OR here but never been to Tillamook.. I was more south but I have had plenty of Tillamook cheese. Extra sharp cheddar slices mmm. The coast is really something up there. Lol ever been to Lakeview? I was there for a while. Haha. It’s on the ugly, desert side of OR and throughout the dinky town, there is an odd cowboy mascot.
Oceanside is a nice beach near Tillamook. It’s a lovely area around there.
Hello everyone!
1. I’m in Amouage Love Mimosa today.
2. I think Atelier Cologne Clementine California, but I do love many citrus.
3. Kneipp Enjoy Life shower gel (may chang and lemon)
https://www.instagram.com/p/Che-wsij9AK/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Perfume half-twins. I may be lemming Love Mimosa but want to try it again.
I am wearing traces of Chergui on one wrist and Love Mimosa on the other. I wanted to test the Chergui as I haven’t owned it for a few years and wanted to see if it was the same as I remembered. Sadly, once I put it on I couldn’t actually remember what I remembered, but maybe it seems less fruity somehow , very powerful. I was surprised to like Love Mimosa because of the melon aspect. But it’s good.
Lemon perfumes: Ys-Uszac Lale is my favourite although it might not have lemon in it. SL Fleurs de Citronnier and CDG Airborne. I like the lemon, mastic, dryness of the latter but love the SL the most. I used to like that very buttery Lush lemon cuticle cream, had a name like Lemon Buttery and was so greasy . My sentimental favourite is Sunlight laundry soap, just reminds me of summer, washing dishes ( used as a detergent in a soap shaker) as a kid.
Had a walk around some leafy suburbs yesterday and up here in Auckland the magnolias are coming into bloom and the streets were washed in scent. The air was warm and humid, and the birds were singing. It’s about ten degrees warmer up here than home.
It’s my last day today and I am tossing up between an exhibition of Icons or one of Ancient Greek artefacts from the British museum. Different galleries so I can only do one.
Also, couldn’t fine Vendetta nail polish on my circuit but tried New Dawn, fabulous too.
It looks like Vendetta might have been a limited edition nail polish.
Not the same but take a look at Vamp (18). It’s got a very subtle shimmer. Gorgeous!
Yup,agree on Vamp! Also gonna check it out!
“I couldn’t actually remember what I remembered . . .” Like dreams when you wake, and directions when you haven’t been to a place in a long time.
Where are you? I meant to ask and then spaced. Sounds like a very satisfying trip.
Auckland. Big city in North Island.
Sounds like you’re having a lovely time!
I am, thank you. I will go back to World for a poke around.
Did you end up getting any FBs?
1. Montale Roses Elixir
2. Chanel Paris-Deauville
3. I don’t have it anymore but used to love C.O. Bigelow Lemon Body Cream.
6. Attended a book signing today. A friend of mine from nursing school who was a geriatric nurse wrote a book after she turned 60 regarding our aging journey. I am looking forward to reading it.
Congrats to your friend, that’s lovely!
That’s so cool that your friend wrote a book! Do report back after reading.
SOTD is Eau Premiere. Coincidentally, this older version has a delightful lemony top note.
Lemon scents– Eau d’Hadrien and Fresh Sugar Lemon. Not perfume, but a big fan of the C.O. Bigelow lemon hand soap.
Will have to ponder holy grail–honestly have enough perfume to scent my entire community!
Blooming: not scented, but my white hostas have just started blooming, the purple ones are done. Thank heavens I was home a couple of weeks ago when mama deer & one of her youngsters started chowing down said white hosta buds. Chased them off & sprayed the remainder with deer-b-gone.
Some good things: friends in town this weekend, and the husband who likes to cook has prepared Italian beef. So much better homemade, and had a hankering since the recent NYT piece about Chicagoland Italian beef.
Finally found a hair product that really helps with summer frizz: Bumble & Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer, and it smells fab!
Oeeee Eau Premiere, maybe I should wear that one as well tomorrow,or No.18 which was what I intended on Friday. You smell fabulous!
I have never had that beef, but we’ve just started watching The Bear so now I know what it is 🙂
Well, enabling pin to you. I have some hair oil from Sephora, ostensibly made with cannabis, that goes on like syrup. I think I need to relegate it to feet. Before I knew it, I had ordered your B&B for my dry thatch 😊
That’s my favorite No 5
SOTD = Indie Tobacco
1. A kind NSTer sent me a sample and I will say I like it! I did a test smell on paper last night and then this morning, swiped the wand on hair (no skin because skin is too sensitive everyday) and nice! I am giving it a whole day of wear before I send an email with my thoughts. You know who you are!
2. Lemon-centric fragrance 🤔 – I would say Profumum Roma Acqua Viva, Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche, …
3. Lemon-centric body product – nada
4. Holy grail fragrance I’m still looking for – nada as I’ve learned not to hanker over perfumes that are really hard to find
5. What’s blooming in my area? Heck if I know 🤣
6. Something good – I know it is still over 273 days away but I am so looking forward to the cruise I booked Boston to Boston Historic Coasts. Not so sure yet about all the COVID requirements as they will continue to evolve. Canada is the holdout in terms of loosening the requirements… Also, I was thinking of doing a further upgrade of my stateroom but I finally decided to stay put. I hope I chose well!
Today, I had lunch and a beverage at Whole Foods:
https://www.instagram.com/p/ChfVf7cuOFv/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Allure Blanche is 👍 and also Whole Foods food bar. I love the creamy cauliflower soup:). 😋 the cruise sounds fabulous:). I have never been on one. Just a whale watching boat I got drastically sea sick on lol. Small boat.. big waves haha
Things have changed quite a bit with the food bar and I was so happy when the cafe re-opened!
I haven’t been able to see your Insta posts for a few days now. The app wants me to sign in.
That is ugly. For some reason I thought one can always fake it out by using instagram/username/ but that was also making me sign in!
At first I thought it was my computer’s fault. Y’know, software updates and all that. But it did the same thing on my phone, too. Go figure. Maybe it’s the browser I am using?
1. PdR Majalis from my new bottle
2. Agrumi di Sicilia layered with Fleurs de Citronnier
3. Original Source lemon 🍋 and tea tree shower gel
4. Lavender are still blooming I think, I haven’t checked recently
5. In two weeks I will be leaving for France
I forgot, still waiting for Mystère de Rochas
Hey, you were absolutely right that I would end up with a FB of Hermes Eau de Neroli Dore…
It showed up today.
I don’t think you can be too subtle about this … 🤣
My no-buy is not going to plan, danggit!
Oh, wonderful, enjoy your new bottle.
So I guess you win the betting pool? 😉🤣
Two weeks, how exciting!
I am so homesick it cannot come soon enough.
Currently commando, but I took a shower this morning for the first time in an embarrassing number of days, so I’m in tabula rasa territory, which is always fun for applying scent.
I don’t think I have any lemon-centric scents (though I’m rarely cognizant of what all the notes are in my perfumes). I have a lot of “citrus” forward scents, I’m sure, but they’re probably more based on orange/mandarin/grapefruit notes. WAIT. That’s wrong! I just remembered that I have a bottle of Kyse Douceur Brûlée, which has a prominent lemon note. It’s good, but after an hour gets a little sticky-sweet.
I don’t wear a lot of lemon-scented body stuff, because I often associate the note with household cleaning products (and also because I’m not a scented lotion fan). When I was a kid, my mom regularly used Pledge furniture spray, and the artificial lemon note was quite strong. I love the aroma of actual lemon peel, though, particularly in food. Anybody ever drop a curl of lemon peel into a cup of espresso? Marvelous.
Not a lot blooming here in the desert summer heat, and I’d probably miss out even if there were blooms, since I try to stay inside for most of the summer…..
Love it when a fancy coffee shop includes a twist of candied citrus, not qute the same, but maybe in the neighbourhood
The citrus-coffee sounds interesting!
J B, you wouldn’t think lemon and bitter coffee go together, but the lemon adds a really nice “brightness” to the espresso.
I’ma defo going to try this!
Ooh
Candied citrus peel in an espresso sounds delicious.
A curl of lemon peel in a cup of espresso? Sign me up! I’ve had espresso served this way at fancy restaurants.
Wearing Eau Dynamisante, the only perfume I have that I know has lemon in it. I do like Watkin’s Lemon Cream dry body oil, which some here had mentioned.
It would be awesome if some vintage Dioressimo turned up, but I sure am not expecting it. In local flora, the hostas are out in full force, and starting to see some pretty tall sunflowers.
I have high hopes for Diorrissimo now that Francis Kurkdjian is at Dior!!
I always remember Luca Turin said Dior was particularly unlucky in the aromachemicals that got banned, and there wasn’t all that much they could do to maintain the original formulas.
We’ll see, right?

Loves Fresh Lemon
Lemon Up Shampoo
Not much due to lack of rain
The feline grandkids are with me and lounging on the bed
Lemon Up shampoo! And Love’s Fresh Lemon!
Blasts from the past, eh?
I used Lemon Up for YEARS…so cheerful.
Lemon Up shampoo used to be a fave, many years ago!
The sun is shining after days of rain! I don’t think I have many perfumes with a lemon note. I love lemon in food, but in perfume I tend to think of cleaning products. It’s a shame when those associations are so strong.
I don’t think there is a perfume I’d describe as my holy grail right now, but there are still plenty on my want list.
Spring is getting closer every day, I saw a first early blossom tree yesterday. It was a bit bedraggled with the wind and rain, so I’m going to check it out again today.
The sky has shifted already in South Africa,I noticed it this morning!A shift in the blue hue always a clear indicator of GLORRRRRIOUS days ahead!
1. I’m in Prada’s Infusion d Oeillet–I needed something that would work with the heavily scented, spicy Lush hair mask I used this AM.
2. I luurve the scent of lemons, limes, oranges. You name the citrus, I love the scent (Exception: Although I love the scent of the fruit, some grapefruit perfumes don’t work for me.) But here’s the deal, whatever is the aromachemical used for bergamot, it often just registers as lemon, or lemon-adjacent. So with that caveat, the following are among my favorite lemony perfumes that I own that I can recall off the top of my head: Shalimar, Jicky, Eau de’Orange Verte, You or Someone Like You, Dear Polly, Rosas Frescas, Limon de Cordoza, and Cristalle. Also, a decant of Venetian Bergamot (TF) arrived in the mail yesterday from Royalty Scents, that I find a bit lemony.
3. Hmmm. Not sure I have one.
4. See #3.
5. Loads of fruit. Seeing apples, persimmons, lemons, oranges, and mandarins on my walks. The lavender is in full bloom, as are the Jacaranda flowers.
In other random news, I slept in late. Probably because I have an article I have to write and I don’t feel like it. Anyway. My phone was ringing off the hook when I finally roused myself. My neighbor across the street, who is suffering from an undiagnosed paralysis of her legs, called me to ask if I could help her to get into a car so she could rescue her partner who had had a minor bike accident, and his bike was caput. She refused to let me go get him–she wanted to be mistress of the rescue, which I actually totally understand, but getting her into his van (big enough for his bike) was a bit hairy. And then as I was coming back from that, I was called by another neighbor who managed to drive her car up onto the low stone retaining wall that is next to her driveway. Her front wheel was up the driveway, but her back wheel was suspended in midair, with the wall wedged up under her car door. Yeah. I had no idea how to help. Her partner wound up using a couple of those jacks you use when you get a flat, and wedged piece of wood under the back wheel when there was space. But goodness! I think I better just hunker down at my desk and write!
What an interesting day you’ve had!!
I’m lying in bed with regrets-totally unrelated to your day,but wtf here goes…
This gorgeous hunk of a man approached me while U was on a smokebreak this past tuesday. At first I thought it was either to ask for a light or a cigarette. He actually asked-after some random small talk-for my number.I was so flabbergasted in the moment and blurted out “I am taken”.He heard “take it” and was handing me his phone, when I stupidly repeated “I’m taken” and he just said “Oh sorry,I thought you said take it”,and hurried away…
Of course I am not taken.
Deep deep regrets.Haha!🙈🙈👨🏾🤝👨🏻
Maybe he will somehow show up again and you can say..you’re taken…you’re taken me out to dinner!
Hoping for this scenario then,YESSSS !!!😍😍🤗✌🏻
J B! WTH? “Taken”? Twice? (Smacks forehead, hard!) Not. Not. Not taken. I am going to assume that the ghm (gorgeous hunk of a man) will now only be more intrigued and shall make another appearance, which when it happens you must get out the word “NOT” if nothing else.
Still love you, but ga ga ga golly!
Hahaha!
I know,right??
(And apologies for my late-late-night oversharing,I’ll blame it on the Zolpidem!🙈🙈✌🏻🤗)
What possessed you?? Hopefully he will try again. 🙂
I do believe in serendipity and manifestations to some degree…🤞🏻
No regrets J B! If your gut reaction was that you are taken, it might be for a good reason. Trust yourself 🌞
This is the flipside of what I said to Cazaubon, but yes!
My 6th sense might sometimes be overzealous…🌹🤗
It sounds like you were at work when he approached you. Maybe try and track him down, if that’s feasible?
This same thing happened to me many moons ago when I was single. A really cute guy at the DZ started chatting me up, and I was completely tongue tied. I managed to mumble, but he finally gave up on me. Coulda woulda shoulda! 😞
What happened to the dangling tree? What a neighbourhood!
Grapefruit perfumes smell of sulphur to me.
It was finally cleared away on Wed and Thurs this week. In the meantime, I had an arborist look at the trees behind my house, one of which is an old, huge, Oak that leans towards the house. He basically said that trees are meant to grow up and then fall down, so I shouldn’t ever feel safe. And then he chuckled, and wished me luck getting a permit to have it cut down. I took an Ativan to fall asleep that night, and am looking into consulting other arborists.
Have you ever tried Hermes’ Concentre de Pamplemousse Rose? It’s a grapefruit that works for me.
We are facing a dying giant oak tree issue, too! Fortunately, we do not need a permit to cut it down, but we will need thousands of dollars!
Trees are $$$$.
We have many huge old oak trees in our neighborhood, including an old water oak in our front yard. We used to have a gorgeous, huge, white oak in our back yard but it died and we finally had to take it down. OTOH, we were able to keep it alive for several years longer than it might have lived, by paying an arborist company to come annually and treat its root zone, take off dead limbs, etc. What finally killed it was that the former neighbors next door filled half of their back yard to make it level and smothered half of the oak’s roots. Ugh.
Geez, what a bummer about that white oak.
Holy smokes! You totally had a crazy Saturday.
SotD Diorella, for the lemon. Nice; glad to have made the selection from PurplLux, but it hasn’t gone on the FB list. I like it one notch better than O de Lancome, which is also a nice freshie.
A favorite lemon scent is a tough question. SJP Covet is my best answer, because I detect more lemon-the-fruit in it than in most lemon note scents I have. Eau Savage, which I have a vintage mini of, is also lemony to me, but more like a refined lemon. Jean Nate? Yes: it a sweet, fun lemonade scent. I would always rather smell lemonade than drink it – it does not agree with me.
I don’t have a favorite body product, but I’d happily splash on Jean Nate or use a lemon shampoo if I had it.
My HGF is an ambergris.
My zinnias are finally coming alive. I thought they were just going to be leafy sticks with a flower on top, but all of a sudden this week they said “YEAH, BABY” and sent out side stems with buds and got taller.
Staying in the garden mode, I think the Gold Queen tomato may be my HGT! It is not too sweet and it has very little of that seedy pulp. Plus it is very pretty and will make your salsa look nice.
Whine of the week is a bit of lower back pain. It happened just as last weekend’s COVID booster issues faded, and I could not help but wonder if it was a follow-on. Like most aches and pains, it seems to be best for pain relief to keep on movin’ and groovin’. Whine over. My weather has been fabulous. Off to read comments and hope everyone is getting some rest this weekend.
Your tomato sounds SO yummy! 😋🍅
1. Chanel No. 19 EdP and perspiration. I finally made it to my county farmer’s market and found some goodies there. Really psyched about the exotic mushrooms we picked up! 🍄
2. Lemon perfumes? I used to enjoy Jean Nate splash ages ago. Not sure if lemon plays nice with me anymore.
3. Having said that, my favorite lemon-centric body product is Bliss’ Lemon and Sage body butter, shins only. It mixes really well with the Wrappings lotion which is what I did yesterday.
4. Holy Grail perfume? More 15mL and other travel sizes, please!
5. Lots of local produce is now at its best, so things are fruiting and not blooming.
6. Something wonderful? I got mostly good news on the comprehensive physical I had last week! The only things that were issues are cholesterol is a little high, and my waistline needs to be smaller. Rather pleased that I am in decent condition after all.
Yay for your #6!
For sure!
Yes to #4!!
I SO agree with you, J B!
We perfumistas can dream, right?
Well I could have told you you were in decent condition 😚 Love your #4. Too true!
LOL! 🥰 But my family medical history does have some serious things in it, and those are always back of mind now.
Hooray on everything!
So relieved I didn’t get any nasty surprises with that physical!
Not a big lemon fan, I guess I could mention Kerosene Unknown Pleasures that is a yummy gourmand with a lemon note. As for holy grails, I have a few: 4160 Tuesdays Clouds as well as Waft from the Loft, Kilian Love, Tauer L’Air du Désert Marocain.
Feeling emotional as we head into the final week before the move. Even places I’ve hated create a sort of attachment. Once I knew the house was sold and the end was in sight, I could finally enjoy the nice aspects of living here: nightly walks to the beach with my dog, visiting my friends at their tea farm, enjoying the lovely trees and foliage. No regrets though, I could not live here long term. Once the upheaval is over I’ll feel calmer.
Good luck! I hate to move. Luckily I cherish the house we’re in, the only one we’ve ever owned. I cherish it more since we finished repairing all the damage from a 2020 plumbing disaster! Yes, it happened during full COVID lockdown, when all three of our young adult kids had moved back home. Two bathrooms out of service for months. Good times. All is well now, though!
Good luck on the move!
Good luck on the move and safe travels!
Well that seems nice, to get some enjoyment out of it at last!
Hey there folks!
1. My sotd was Prada Candy Night. I’m bringing out the cool weather perfumes already!
2. I can’t think of a favorite lemon perfume. I like orange better.
3. Bbw had a lemoncello line once that was pretty good.
4. I’m always on the lookout for Gucci Envy and Dolce and Gabbana Sicily.
5. My backyard is blooming with its late summer weeds. They are colorful and pretty on the side of the garage. They might be flowers.. idk. Lol.
6. My niece will be having her baby most likely this coming week!
I plan on switching up my perfume tray on September 1. It’s sneaking up on me way too fast.
Congrats on having a new baby in the family!
You are funny! And congratulations on #6!
Congrats on welcoming a new baby into your family soon!
Oops, I left my answers as a reply to someone else, so I’ll put them here:
1. What fragrance are you wearing today?
I haven’t decided yet, as it’s now Sunday morning, but probably one of the Jardins from Hermes.
2. What’s your favorite lemon-centric fragrance, if you have one? Hands down, Meet Me On The Corner by 4160 Tuesdays! It’s a citrus chypre, and I wrote about it here: https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2019/12/08/scent-sample-sunday-meet-me-on-the-corner/
Also Shalimar Philtre de Parfum. I don’t have many lemon-centric fragrances, but the ones I do have and like are mostly flankers of Shalimar.
3. What’s your favorite lemon-centric body product, if you have one?
Crabtree & Evelyn Cooks’ Citrus Hand Wash.
4. What holy grail fragrance are you still looking for?
Patricia de Nicolai’s Le Temps d’Une Fete
5. What’s blooming in your local area at the moment?
Japanese anemones, coneflowers, crape myrtles, roses, clematis.
6. Share something wonderful with us!
I will go with my husband to Las Vegas in late September on his business trip, and we have tickets to see Cirque du Soleil’s Beatles Love show! We’ve seen it once before and it’s fabulous. I’m not a big fan of Las Vegas but I also plan to visit the Guerlain store. The one and only time I’ve visited LV, I hadn’t yet gone fully down the perfume rabbit-hole, so I haven’t been to the Guerlain store before. Saving up for a couple of purchases!
The Love show would definitely be on my list if I ever get back to Vegas…and the Guerlain store. Have fun! 🤩
Have fun in Vegas! And the Guerlain store!!
Perfume shops in Vegas..Diptyque boutique and Le Labo which are right next to each other at the Wynn..the Beatles show is at the Mirage which is north strip..so if you are already north strip the Wynn isn’t too far off. Wynn also has a Chanel boutique which carries the Exclusifs. There is also Dior but I forget which Dior carries perfumes, not the Wynn one though. There are several Dior and Chanel boutiques. Another Chanel boutique is at the Venetian..also north strip. Also north strip is Saks at Fashion Show which has lines like Kilian..Boredo..and Neiman Marcus is also at Fashion Show which has several niche lines like Memo..Neimans does close early as well as Saks I think. And of course Guerlain..which is a smaller boutique but carries the newer releases and the Alegora ones..and the gold bee bottles are nice on the eyes. Also..the Cosmetics store at the North Outlets owned by Estee Lauder downtown has discounted Tom Fords. Probably more info than you needed to know but there you go! Have fun:).
Enjoy your Vegas jaunt! The monorail is a great way to great up and down The Strip, if you get tired of walking.
I don’t have anything lemon like in my perfume or body stuff collection. I am not in a position to add anything to my collection. It’s getting a little too close to the holidays. Even though I started my Christmas shopping, still have quite a few people to shop for. I do want full bottles of Rose de Kandahar and Gris Charnel but that’s on next year’s to buy list.
Finished up my Chanel week yesterday with no 5 edt and still in it. After my shower, I think it will be either Gris Charnel or maybe Pleasures today.
Wow, Dawn, so impressed you’ve started Xmas shopping already!
I’m in No. 22 this morning before my shower. I’m enjoying it so much, I might just reapply afterwards! I’m trying to go through my Chanel samples and downsize my treasured little shopping bag with the C’s on it.
I was in Mediterraneo yesterday purely by accident. Got my haircut and went by a shop that carries lots of stuff, perfume being only one of the things they carry. Wandered through the place and discovered they carry MF teas! Yippee! So this is my #6 entry for sure. 😊 ☕️
Made my vanilla salt yesterday. It was immediately fragrant. Looking forward to using it in about a week.
Yum. Enjoy it!
No.22 is so beautiful. I wish they would have left it in the regular line.
Me too, lillyjo. It’s so pricey (heavy sigh).
Ooooooh, nice find on those MF teas! I recently tried Marco Polo, and was quite pleased with it. And black teas usually aren’t my jam. I prefer green teas.
1. Commando
2. Shalimar edc
4. Angel eau Sucree at a price I’m happy with
5. Down here, crape myrtle. At home, mums are probably just starting.
6. The fabulous cook that we’re staying with just served today’s lunch: fettuccine with 4lbs of fresh shrimp, mmmmmmm.
Off to read the comments!
Fettucine with shrimp, lucky you!
Hey everyone! It’s been a minute, but I’ve been reading :).
1. I’m going through my perfumes to decide what I want to try to sell at a garage sale next weekend, so I’m in sprays of purgatory scents Splendor, Loulou, Yves Rocher Plein Soleil, Ungaro Apparition, and Guess by Marciano. I was working on the Guess by spraying it into the bath when I remembered to, and it’s still half full!
2. Mediterraneo, though it only lasts a few minutes on me!
3. I’d like to find one. I love lemon.
4. I try not to long for perfumes that are impossible to find or too expensive for me–there are many more fish in the sea. So no holy grail at the moment.
5. Not blooming, but ripening: my tomatoes! Finally! I get a bunch of new ones every day now. They’re delicious.
6. A fun book: “Iona Iverson’s Rules for Commuting” by Clare Pooley. It’s a VERY fast read, funny and cheerful, and I haven’t finished it yet but I’m enjoying it a lot.
Off to read the rest of the comments now! I hope everyone’s having a good weekend.
Have you ever tried Profumum’s Acqua Viva? It’s a great lemon, imho, and they make it in a body cream.
Ooh that sounds delightful–thank you!
If there is an ULTA near you, they used to carry the Bliss Lemon & Sage body butter. It’s on the lighter side, so it works well for the summer, IMO. Sometimes CVS will have it, too.
Hi Jalapeno! That sounds great, thank you!
1. What fragrance are you wearing today?
Sous le Toit de Paris. I’m loving violet lately and am joining happy88cat in anticipating the new Hermes.
2. What’s your favorite lemon-centric fragrance, if you have one?
The closest I have is Assam of India. Don’t have any straight-up leniency scents.
3. What’s your favorite lemon-centric body product, if you have one?
Pass.
4. What holy grail fragrance are you still looking for?
The perfect cross between TF Moss Breches, Zegna Roman Wood, Love’s Warm Woodsy Musk, and Sardo bath oil. Only more woods and less musk. And a little leather. 🤣 I think I’ll have to make it myself.
5. What’s blooming in your local area at the moment?
Sunflowers!
6. Share something wonderful with us!
My beloved aunt just turned 95! I will soon be planning a trip to visit her.
Happy Birthday to your Aunt!
Thank you, lillyjo!
Happy birthday to your aunt! Have a wonderful visit!
Thanks, madtowngirl! I sure am looking forward to it.
Congratulations to your Aunt on her 95th birthday!
1. Hermes Caleche EDT
2. I thought this was it!
4. See #2. I finally bought it. I love the lemony aldehydes burst, and I love that it smells like a fancy soap! I love roses and irises! My first impression is one of clean competence; a woman who is ready for the day! But I don’t remember it turning so quickly to nothing but oakmoss on me before. Maybe it’s the heat wave we’re having? Maybe my nose has changed? Any recommendations for something with a similar opening much appreciated!
I like perfumes that smell like fancy soap too. Enjoy your new purchase!
Omg, soooo late to the party. It’s been a busy few days.
1. Phlur Missing Person. I finally caved and bought a travel spray since my Sephora is permanently out of display sniffers. Enabler pin to lillyjo who mentioned this long before it exploded on TikTok. This is a really nice skin scent, but it is just that. Wears very close to the skin with not much projection. Maybe it would be better layered with the matching body products.
2. Eau de Hadrien or Profumum Acqua Viva.
3. Mrs. Meyer’s Lemon Verbena hand soap which isn’t really a body product per se but my hands are part of my body so, that’s as close as I get. I don’t really wear lemon scents on my body.
4. The OG skin scent!
5. No idea. I am not a gardener.
6. My college daughter is home!!🤩 We drove up north to get her and picked her up Friday night. The weather- which was forecasted to rain all weekend- turned out to be beautiful! We had a lovely dinner outside, spent hours talking and catching up, and looking at pictures of her summer. We came back home yesterday and today I baked her my famous chocolate cake. We will have a belated birthday celebration tonight, which will double as an anniversary cake as it is my 29th wedding anniversary today.
Congrats on your anniversary and a happy birthday to your daughter!
Thanks hajusuuri!
Congratulations on your 29th wedding anniversary! That’s impressive. 🎊💍🥂
Thanks Jalapeno! When I look at that number I can hardly believe it, I don’t know where the years have gone!
Happy anniversary and happy birthday to your daughter! What’s your famous chocolate cake?
Thanks!
It’s my grandma’s recipe passed down to my mom who made it for me all the while I was growing up. Now I’ve been making it for my kids since my son’s first birthday back in 1997. I may be biased but it’s the best chocolate cake I’ve ever tasted. We recently got a Portillos in town and my husband wanted to try their chocolate cake after hearing rave reviews. I hate to sound braggadocios but it paled in comparison.
Happy Anniversary! And happy birthday to your daughter!
You might get more projection with Missing Person in the cooler weather. You could also try hajusuuri-ing it. Lol.
Thanks lillyjo!
Yeah, 12 sprays next time.😂😉
Happy anniversary!
Thanks cazaubon!
Sotd Primo body spray lol. I was gunna do a Chanel then I saw my Primo can lol. I sprayed myself while in my closet looking for something, which I do not recommend with a BWF lol I bombed myself haha. Oops. Just to think I used like half a can per wearing on myself back in the day haha..and then a half a can of aquanet. I was very flammable! Lol
Sotd is The Holy Mountain thanks to a generous NSTer
I love Eau Sauvage but I don’t have any lemon body products.
Holy Grails might be one of Vero Kern’s fragrances or Parfums DelRae Bois de Paradis and Wit
Gardenia, Jasmine, Harlequin Glorybower tree (flowers smell like jasmine)
