Unless I can find my sample of Frédéric Malle Eau de Magnolia, for the rest of the week I'll be wearing fragrances with magnolia notes I hardly notice. Today's model: Imaginary Authors Saint Julep. Tea at the moment is Kusmi Troika.
Reminder: on 8/12, wear a fragrance with a magnolia note, if you have one.

How does St Julep last for you, Robin? I really like it but it vanishes almost instantly on me.
Wearing Angel Sucree courtesy of my hostess today, this might be my next Mugler purchase. It’s so hot here that perfume just melts off.
I would not say it lasts all day but I wouldn’t say it vanishes instantly either. Maybe a few hours? Which is really what I prefer generally.

Another cool day, currently 17°C, and in fact it’s supposed to be low twenties all week. I’m not complaining! (It’s bucketing down rain right now, and it’s supposed to be clouds and/or rain until Saturday at least. Still not complaining!) So once again I am wearing something warm and sultry, SL Ambre Sultan. There’s nothing particularly original about it, but it’s an exemplar of the style, I think.
We have a heat index of 105F, so yeah, I would not be complaining either!

Man I slept like a rock last night! The two previous nights of sleep were interrupted by storms so it felt good to have solid sleep.
This morning is gorgeous! 63 degrees and low humidity, I love it!😎

Yay for a great night’s sleep! I did not sleep so well and might be fetching a latte too before the day is out.
Hoping I will get some of that cooler weather AND good sleep soon. Cutting back on my caffeine intake today to see if that helps.

I am drinking a cup of Unbirthday Blend Tea. Its a “black tea with deep opening flavors of vanilla buttercream and cocoa, with colorful flower petals”. I am on my second to last tea bag for this. I will miss it when its gone.

Woke up to a cooler morning and some “free” watering after another hot day yesterday.
Drinking Keemun tea with milk and wearing Guerlain L’Instant because it apparently has a magnolia note.
I love these cp’s for the same reason others do – it’s fun to rediscover fragrance and learn about particular notes.
Did not know that about L’Instant. That will have to be my scent of the week since it’s the only thing I have with magnolia.
L’Instant is such a lovely scent and seems to work in any season.
I’m wearing Atelier Sud Magnolia. I don’t remember where I got this, in a swap I think. There’s a good dash of citrus in it, so it’s good in hot weather.
Sud Magnolia is a good one.
I think I still have a sample of that one around somewhere.
Had a blech weekend. 🙁 Mini She-ra started not feeling well on Saturday and has had cold/flu symptoms w/ 100/101 temp and now a cough…what you might call classic Covid symptoms 😉 but she has tested negative (via at home tests) 3 nights in a row. But I think it’s Covid. Mr. She-ra had Covid in early July so he was taking care of her over the weekend. I have not had it yet (to my knowledge) so am masking and isolating from her as best as possible. 🙁 It’s tough but she is feeling much better and her temp was 99 this morning.
On Sunday, and forgive me in advance if it’s too much info, I noticed my urine was a bit dark and it kind of burned when I stopped the flow so I went to urgent care and thank God I did b/c my urine was pink w/ blood when I did the urine sample. To the best of my knowledge, this is my first UTI ever too which I know sounds strange given how common they are…I have made it through more decades than I care to mention without one though which made it more perplexing and worrisome for me. Maybe perimenopause? I read that when hormone levels start to drop it can you make you more susceptible to them. It was very painful but I am taking the antibiotics and also feeling much better.
House She-ra has been challenged but we shall endure.😅 On Saturday, before everything went to hell in a hand basket, I cleaned off my dresser and unearthed my sample of FM Eau de Magnolia and shall spray that on in a bit.

I’m in Heeley’s bright and refreshing Verveine d’Eugene. Notes listed are lemon verbena, bergamot, rhubarb, blackcurrant, cardamon, jasmine and white musk. I mostly get lemon verbena.
In looking up the notes, I noticed how good the exchange rate is from euros to dollars right now. 100ml of this is 180 – 200 dollars in US stores and it’s 130 euros in Europe which converts to $133. If you’re looking to buy something, it’s definitely a good idea to look into buying directly from the house or a European vendor. Sometimes they have free shipping, too!

That’s a very pretty teapot up there — I almost wish I could afford it. No magnolia here today because I’m in Dryad and trying to determine whether it’s as similar to Hiram Green Arcadia as I suspect. (That’s Arcadia *after* the weird funky phase is over.) Arcadia is sweeter, Dryad is drier, but they are both forest-floor gorgeous. The investigation continues. 😉

Well, at first I got lily from Arcadia, which isn’t a note I normally like. Then it got a bit swampy for a hot couple of minutes during which I nearly scrubbed it … but then it turned to delicious, tonka-bean-infused forest (deciduous forest, late in summer), and stayed that way for several hours. I’m smitten, but that initial funkiness was off-putting. I’m still on the fence.
Oooh. I love lily, so I wonder if that would be enough to not get put off by the swamp for me!
Full disclosure: lily is not listed as one of Arcadia’s notes, so that might truly just be a function of my nose misreading something. But definitely give it a try if you’ve liked other Hiram Greens!

Yes this morning was coffee. Tea for the rest of the day is iced green pineapple ginger. So refreshing! I may have to drink the whole pot I made and put in the fridge last night. Heat index here is 104. 🥵 Here’s to hoping the heat wave will break tonight as predicted.

I’m in Dior Mitzah today, and feeling excited about the new house, finally. I dropped by this morning to let some work people in, and got a peak at the painting that’s been done so far–and it looks really great! So relieved that the colors we picked seem to be working out in the light of the house.

Boy is it frosty. I had bare feet when I went out and now they are zinging with that classic cold pain. But the stars! Goodness me. Orion was so close, standing “upright” and directly in front of me like a picture on a wall, and sparkly. Saturn is at its closest to earth, directly opposite the sun now, and like a bright torch. Still a patch of snow on the lawn but it will melt away today once the sun rises. Wearing A Drop for Issey Miyake. This is really a purgatory scent. I keep trying it because I feel I am missing something. I like it but the base is weirdly off putting. I had the same problem with Aura which I also keep revisiting. The smell makes me a little queasy.

We had a bit of rain this morning and some cooler temps followed, but apparently temps will be slowly escalating as the week continues. Over summer!
I’m in Bvlgari Omnia today and wearing a coral maxi with EVA Birkenstock’s that are a swirl of lavender and coral, all topped of with a cropped denim jacket and lavender/grey hair. The purple is gone and it’s currently a pastel lavender, fading fast into my natural salt and pepper…👩🏻🦳

SOTD: Magic in The Air from BBW. Had a VERY early morning today, and that was perfect for after the shower to wake up.
He seemed warm and human himself, like it was just coming through in the books, at least to me. But don’t know anything about him personally.

SOTD Prada Infusion d’Homme,light and airy and perfect.I sprayed TF Soleil Blanc a short while ago,I’ve forgotten how lovely this one is as well.
After the antique fair I came home to continue with a “little” project of drying lavender in my oven,for mixing with bath salts,making fragrant sachets for cupboards etc etc.A friend has a gigantic lavender patch in her garden and I’m so glad she is sharing!
After that I finally got around to do some gilding(a tiny cloche,the lid of my cotton buds container and the base of a very old scuplture/soapholder-thingy….haha!
It was a good day.

Testing out Miller Harris’s Leather Rouge today. It’s like a laid back, juicer version of Tuscan Leather, with the notes I like dialed up and the ones I don’t dialed down. The saffron here is more floral, less plastic-doll-head, the raspberry is ripe and juicy, and the leather is more lady’s handbag, less sportscar seat leather. I really should just send Mathieu Nardin a fan letter already.
Caffeine-free tea today is a rooibos with cinnamon bark that I added. Good, but I think it would be better with chai spices instead. I might try that tomorrow. Unfortunately, the insomnia continues.

My sleep schedule last night was a train wreck. I think part of it is the heat wave.
My SOTD is Las Flores by Provision Scents. Top 10 for me, without question.
I stopped dying my hair during the pandemic and let it grow out. I thought I was fine with the grey. Well, this morning I looked in the mirror and just rebelled. I was lucky enough to get an appointment with my new hair stylist today because she had a cancellation, so I now have dark chestnut hair and feel like a million bucks!
Oh how nice…I have no opinion on dying vs. going grey, but it’s always good to feel like a million bucks.
Yay for new hair color! I just box dyed mine soft black.
Some people have nice looking grey hair, but I don’t think it does me any favors.

99 degrees here today! Heat index varies between 104 and 115, depending on which weather app I check. I am surprised that I haven’t heard about problems with the mass transit trains in my area. They don’t do well in extreme heat. 🔥🔥🔥

I’m glad there were no transit issues, at least for me.

Did I mention that we have been encouraged to complete a survey about our building. I was all ready to do it when the first set of questions not only asked for gender but also age group. For gender, there were newer choices and the ability to choose Prefer not to disclose; however, the age group question was required with no option to choose Prefer not to disclose. Anyway, I questioned this and was told eh, too late. So I said eh, I won’t be filling it out. And to think that they asked an outside company to run the survey…someone chose the wrong one.
As to perfumes with magnolia, unless I can find my Eau de Magnolia like Robin, I will have to wear at least one that I did not necessarily enjoy … let’s see if I do that because life is too short to wear mediocre perfumes. I’m thinking that magnolia is probably low on my list of preferred flowers, maybe just one notch above LOTV, which doesn’t say much for magnolia 🤷🏻♀️.
I wouldn’t have completed the survey either. I try to avoid being a static whenever possible.
No sense in wearing something you don’t enjoy.
Kind of lame that there was a No Disclosure option for gender but not age. That kind of info could be misused…
I don’t appear to have any magnolia scents in my arsenal. I’m in 4160 Tuesdays New York 1955; I may have oversprayed (with at least 10 sprays) so the raspberry note came through quite nicely.
Thankfully some clouds have moved in so it feels much cooler; we may even get some rain!

I am in OJ Woman today and enjoying it. Those green and herbal notes can be very nice in hot weather. I looked on Basenotes for perfumes with a magnolia note and there were zillions! I even have quite a few of them. I’ll have to get some out for wearing later this week.
