Still doing Demeter Week, today in Vetiver, which is such an August scent — vividly yellow-green, bright and fresh, with a woody base.
Pyramus, is this the natural version, or their standard version of vetiver? I love vetiver, but I haven’t gotten either of the Demeter versions.
It’s their standard: I’ve never tried any of the Naturals line and to be honest I probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference anyway. But even their inexpensive vetiver is really good, with more lasting power than most of the line — it won’t get you through a day but it’s still there a few hours later.
Wearing Guerlain AA Pamplelune, another summery refreshing scent for the oppressive August days we are having now.
A dangerous super hot and humid day today feeling in the 100’s. I refused to go to the site today and tomorrow, no matter if everyone else in my team is there. I have been exposed to the heat for so many weeks in a row and I am not going to keep risking my health. I am already feeling exhausted.
Drinking my second cup of iced coffee and some peach cobbler that my sister made yesterday. Yummy!

I went outside at lunchtime and despite being horribly hot I tolerated the heat pretty well. Perhaps, because it was a very short walk. The commute back home, however is going to be very tough. Enjoy that lemonade at the farmers market!

I tried it the other week. It wasn’t as powerful as I remembered but it still had body and didn’t feel watered down. I really enjoyed wearing it for the day and was planning to go back and check out the prices. In fact, I might do that today. Has a powerful but relaxed vibe, kind of in a Gloria Steinem way.

SOTD is Chanel No 5 L’eau. I did the hajusuuri thing and sprayed with abandon. I am guessing about 10 sprays. Always good in the heat.

Close enough – I usually do 8 when I’m working from home. In office days are 5 sprays other than for a select few anemic fragrances (looking at you 28 La Pausa!), in which case 8 will do.
I figure since I am retired, I can get away with about anything.

So my first impression is that’s it’s more of a soft floral than a musk…? I guess I was expecting (or maybe hoping) for a Musc Ravageur lite and it’s definitely not that. Iris is apparently a middle note but that’s what my nose got first. Pretty. Wearable. Knock my socks off? No.
I did. It was limited edition last summer too, which is when I got my bottle. I was surprised to see they brought it back this year. I see they have a hair mist version now too.
Oh, double grrr! But I feel your pain as I too always seem to miss the bargains!

After a very hot, very humid day yesterday, we were surprisingly blessed with a cool -ish, rainy and cloudy day! *Waives fan* to send it on to the East Coast NST’ers. I thought I was going to be joining you in the heat today. Yesterday’s AA Pera Granita just did not move the needle above okay. I’ve tried dabbing and spraying. It was more pleasant on my clothes. It was a Plato’s Closet find in one of those custom Bee Bottles, the golden-yellow color. Anyway I like the bottle, with its detailed texture and heavy glass stopper. SotD vintage-ish Heaven Sent from a mystery spray bottle purchased on Ebay. I think it is the MEM version, but Dana had some very similar bottles. It is a scent I love from my 9th grade days on, but the Helena Rubenstein versions are just more of what I want. I have some MEM splash bottles and find the spraying helps. Unless of course it is the Dana version. For a long time I passed up buying more because although smelling wonderful was a transcendent pleasure in 9th grade, there is also some sadness associated with those days. I thought I would let my little remnant suffice. But I finally saw an HR version for a good price, so I gave in. Happy Friday Eve, and stay cool, y’all!

The lingering notes on my shirt were appealing and Guerlain-worthy. If you find the HS and I can offer you something too, that would be very kind.

Sampling Jousset Accident A La Vanille today. Enjoying it but not sure it breaks any new vanilla ground…will see how it wears. 😉 I am trying to be more critical as I encounter new vanillas and more judicious in the FBs I acquire. The struggle is real, friends. Happy Friday Eve!🍨
What are you favourite mainstream ( department store, big brand ) vanilla perfumes? If you have any.
I think Pacifica Island Vanilla is a great bargain vanilla that is available at Ulta and Target here…not sure if they have this brand in your neck of the woods. Their Sugared Amber Dreams is also nice but in a similar vein. I believe hajusuuri originally shared Island Vanilla w/ me.

That reddit is so hard to read – there are 264 comments but the way they are displayed is far too squirrely. Anyway, I agree that I have too much perfume and I am a bit of a compulsive buyer and hoarder, but like you say, it’s nobody’s business but mine.
Agreed. Somehow, I don’t know how to change my setting so the comments appear in reverse order of responses or the other way around.

Well, its been a rollercoaster of a week with illnesses and physical frailties, but things are getting better!
I’m testing Hera. There is a waxy, green top note that is getting in the way of this perfume. So it is not love, for me. The others I’ve been road testing this week are Orangea from Profumum Roma, Darcy from P de Marly, and BDK’s Pas ce Soir.

If not exactly the vapors, my ailments are mostly operational and not serious. Inconvenient. Got several deep injections of steroids in my back on Tuesday, and once the fentanyl wore off, I indeed found myself more mobile.

Thanks Cazaubon. As for Orangea, I would put it in the “fun” category. If it were offered in a 30 mls bottle, say from ELDO at ELDO prices, I would bite. But I wouldn’t need more than that and especially not at PR prices. To me, it is reminiscent (from what I can recall–I don’t have a bottle) of Séville à l’aube. Imagine Séville à l’aube, with its orange blossom, pith, and spice, but with the addition of a big glug of Fanta soda–fizz and all, in a good way 😉

I’ve been sticking to some familiar scents this week(Cuba Paris),but have also worn some classic loves:Chamade yesterday.
Received an order I placed from Panier des Sens,the Rose Geranium edt is lovely,if not entirely my thing.Straight up rose and a smidgeon of geranium,if anyone is interested.Apparently more natural ingredients,which does make longevity an issue.

Daffodils! I saw them with my own eyes! There’s a patch of lawn at the northern entrance to town, beside the motorway that is planted with bulbs and there they were, just opening out. So yellow! After all the dreary , cold, endless rain ( wettest July on record) it was so wonderful to see their return. I have to wear Ostara again.

Have been on a sampling bender after taking many years off from not buying them. It’s a bit cooler today so more of a November scent – Xerjoff P.33 Sketchbook. It’s fine, very nice but not me. Will try again in the winter in case I am missing something.
Also tried Lab on Fire You or Someone Like You and it wasn’t for me either.
But loving trying new things! Have another sample pack coming my way.
What I have found that I loved is 19-69 Capri, that is my August scent. It’s so much bitter orange with a floral background, so good. The issue is it fades so quickly it was almost never there. Worse longevity than Osmanthe Yunan. There is a nice drydown but you have to spray like 8 sprays to get it to stick. I am a 1-3 spray gal, and 8 feels over the top lol! So have a purse spray that I will for sure get through, will see about a full bottle after that, or maybe just another purse spray.
Also tried Electimuss Pomona Vitalis, and I like it – there is something addictive in it with sweetness from resin and a touch of fruit.
Worse longevity than Osmanthe Yunnan is saying something 🙂

Online games are destructive in the worst way possible. Not only do you pay to be in, you get lured into buying fake things online. One of my niece’s friends got sucked in so hard she ended up dropping out (for a semester). Her parents had to run interference or she would have spiraled into digital dust. Nasty!
If I’m going to waste my money, I want something tangible to show for it. This is why gambling never appealed to me, vs. shopping where you know you’ll get something!

Oh you reminded me… lately I have been looking at scams that are out there. Apparently there are some unscrupulous “movers” that are to be avoided. I know you’ve gone through plenty of moves, but for anyone else be careful who you do business with.
I did a careful screening when I moved last year and was very happy with the company I picked, AMJ Campbell, so I booked the same one this time. They are not cheap but they are very good.

Wearing Rose Jam today and wishing I were in Bora Bora, where it appears our realtor is currently on vacation with his family. In an overwater bungalow. Literally what I wanted to do for the honeymoon I still haven’t gone on.
It is not logical for me to be resentful, but it’s hard not to be while I sit in the office trying to get a dang vendor to send me a dang SEM image.

Nah, not yet, sadly 🙁 it’s currently being repainted, and then we’ll get the hardwood refinished, the carpets replaced, and a few other things polished or fixed up before moving in!
Being resentful does not require logic. I once told a friend about a vacation I wanted to do, and before you could say boo she had booked that vacation for herself…I should have been happy for her, but really I wasn’t.
Ahhh! Totally get that. That’s almost rude of her but of course logically it isn’t. Ugh, I would definitely be resentful of that.

I can relate. A month after we put our house up for sale, having no luck, the next door neighbors put theirs up for sale. Theirs sold within a few weeks. Ours took 2.5 months and sold for a lot less. I was intellectually happy for them but really I was seething with jealousy.

In AdP Fico Di Amalfi because I haven’t worn it in ages and in August figs are ripening on the trees to be ready in early September, well at least that’s how it is in Southern France.
I may have had figs already a few months ago. I buy them when I see them but will only get the organic ones. I do peel them but the peel seems porous.

In the past 3 weeks, a newspaper was left in the parking lot on spaces on either side of mine and, therefore, in front of my unit. I don’t recall what happened to the first one (I believe it may have been left one more space over so “not mine”). I picked up last week’s but ended up recycling it. Today, it’s on one of the spaces in front of my unit. I will no longer pick it up and if it is still there when I come back from work tomorrow, I will text the management company and say someone has been throwing “garbage” in the parking lot and I refuse to pick it up. What would you do?
I would just recycle the paper. At least it isn’t dog poop!

Wearing Miller Harris Secret Gardenia, and I like how it is a wet, translucent gardenia. I can’t think of another gardenia frag like this that I’ve tried. Usually they are creamy and/or heady.
Tea today is a mystery black tea. I found it in the stash of tea bags I keep in my office. Too light to be an assam, but could be an afternoon blend of some kind.
Have you tried Mandy Aftel’s Cruel Gardenia? It’s sharp and animalic.
