Thursday scent of the day 7/28

Posted by Robin on 28 July 2022 155 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! It's also World Nature Conservation Day and National Milk Chocolate Day. Birthdays: Beatrix Potter, Marcel Duchamp, Malcolm Lowry, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. What fragrance are you wearing?

Today and tomorrow will be travel days for me as I head home from my vacation. At the moment I’m in Hermès Un Jardin Sur le Nil body lotion again.

Reminder: 7/29 is International Tiger Day...wear whatever you think fits.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I will be in a very tigerish fragrance after I go for an early walk: orange, amaretto, woods and myrrh—PG Bois de Copaiba. The color is right, too. This is one of the original collection of Parfumerie Generale fragrances that I loved, along with Bois Blond, Aomassai, Brulure de Rose, Cedre Sandaraque, Musc Maori among others, all launched before 2008. I was never as interested in his later fragrances.

    Good morning NSTers!

It’s rare that I’m such an early poster but I’m up with the birds working on invoices and wearing Pacifica Tunisian Jasmine Lime to wake myself up. Black tea also helps 🙂

I do? Someone from a swap/sell site sent it as a freebie with my package but I’d never heard of it. I’ve always heard about Tibetan Mountain Temple but not this one. Thanks for letting me know – I’ll appreciate it even more now 🙂

I have been participating in the CP all week, though I am volunteering today I don’t want to let up. Even thought the name of my SOTD give ode to another cat, Cartier La Panthere Legere Eau brings out my inner Tigress.
I will try to keep my claws in today 😉

Thank you to a generous NSTer who shared some of my SOTD with me.

Yes, today is a library day
        🦁 🦁 📚

Which Gucci makeup do you like. I am wearing the only item I have from that line, the bronzer.

How is your Allure perfume ?

I have been looking at their mascaras and lipsticks, I don’t wear much bronzer despite having bought some beautiful Guerlain powders in the past, but the Gucci powders look so good that I am sorely tempted. My two Allures are wonderful, thank you! I often wear them side by side to enjoy the contrast. No bath/body oils here so far but I will keep looking, perhaps for Christmas…

SotD for the CP is Asja – gold and black stripes on the bottle and some spices for the Sumatran tigers. All tigers are amazing, but I am partial to the male Sumatran tiger’s ruff-mane!

Thanks – I love it – I have the edp – it’s a powerhouse and has held up well. I do love the bottle (Fendi has done some wonderful bottles!) but note it is plastic, and my unboxed vintage has some scuffing. It displays well, but be advised if you buy online.

I’m in Perry Ellis Reserve, which is now called Reserve for Men because they came out with a woman’s version four years later, called *that* Reserve, and renamed the men’s version to avoid confusion. (It didn’t work.)

Anyway, it’s terrific, a sophisticated fougère with a floral heart, probably the best men’s scent the line ever released.

I am continually mystified at how brands name their fragrances. It is as though each brand thinks consumers are paying 100% attention only to them.

I’m very un-tigerish in Maison Crivelli Rose Saltifolia, a soft, salty rose that I love maybe (just maybe) more than I love Iroaz, my other beach rose. I’ve been somewhat sluglike lately because of the heat, and as a result I’m antsy to do something today … but it will be close to 100 degrees. Again. Argh. I need an absorbing indoor project. Wonder if we have a jigsaw puzzle around somewhere.

It appears to be a really interesting house — they take a very non-mainstream approach to materials and scent construction. I have another of theirs, Santal Volcanique, that is lost somewhere in Mt. Sample, and a couple more in my LS cart. And they make small bottles. Worth checking out, for sure.

Hello perfume friends! I have been managing to read but never quite getting to write any comments – sending peace and good wishes to you all. I have given myself a rose week as I needed some cheer, and I am in FM Une Rose today, so fresh and vivid. Have also worn Chanel Paris-Paris, Andy Tauer Phi Rose, and Diptyque Eau Rose this week. Beautiful, and such variety! And I have been perfume shopping this week as well but Donatella ordered me a double espresso the other night and sat me down for a chat. She is very understanding, full of wisdom and generosity and knows how messy life can be but she said Sorella, sometimes shopping is not the answer, okay? And she is right. But I am very pleased with my new Perris Monte Carlo Rose de Mai and a bag of samples to try 😃 I’m now planning to savour my current collection and take a break from the shops for a while. It has been a long time since I’ve thunked anything!

Another hot one today, but I’m like a hibernating bear in my dark, air conditioned hotel room. Flipped on the TV to see the Full Glory of Sam Elliot at his youthful mustachioed best in the 1976 movie “Lifeguard.” Young Robbie Benson and Parker Stevenson also make an appearance. Clint Eastwood and Sam Elliot were two of my first Hollywood crushes.

Wearing Le Lion again for day number 3. This has been a good example of holding onto a scent and revisiting it periodically. You just never know when you’ll have a change of heart.

    Stay cool peeps!

I love Le Lion. A full bottle is in my future. Mr. Mossy and I have been getting DVD’s of the old “Rawhide” series from the library. That show of course was Clint’s breakout, and there are so many “from here to the spaghetti westerns and beyond” moments. What I see is a game-on and professional actor who thoughtfully developed a character. A most interesting series – so much more than the campy theme song, IMHO. Oh and let it be whispered: yeah, Sam Elliott, youthful and mustachioed…

Oh, that is a fabulous painting! Thanks for the link, JB. When I first read your description, I thought of a famous painting by Rubens. It turns out it’s a tiger hunt and the tiger is actually attacking the rider not the horse, but Rubens excelled at these sort of animal fighting/hunting scenes. I think the official collection name is Brit Collection, but they do one every year so it always gets a theme name in addition.

Le Couvent Maison de Parfum Aqua Amantia – grapefruit, hibiscus, rhubarbe and cedar. Really pleasant and pretty in the heat. Not sure if I would buy a bottle but I like it and would definitely recommend to someone looking for an easy, feminine warm weather scent.

You could easily layer this with a more patchouli and vanilla thing in the fall and winter.

    Oh – and it’s by Jean-Claude Elena. 😀

Yes! This line has recently arrived in my city and I had a very interesting chat yesterday with the courteous Caesar, who sprayed any number of perfumes for me with very appealing descriptions, and he made me feel like an A+ student when I mentioned JCE. It was very enjoyable and the affordable price range also makes it very appealing. My favourites so far are Smyrna and Hattaï but it all smells very rounded and well thought through. It is all very differently packaged and priced compared to when it was available in pharmacies a few years ago, however. But I hope you all enjoy sampling it!

Having a smoothie, dinner will be spicy kidney beans. Spent the day in Nuxe Prodigieux le Parfum which I hadn’t worn yet this summer and really enjoyed it, I like it more than its sibling Terracotta. Tonight it’s Les Néreides Imperial Opoponax which Fragrantica spells oppoponax, maybe there are two choices, it’s doing its impersonation of Shalimar very well as usual.

Thank you for this reminder of both Nuxe and Terracotta – the recent heatwave was almost too much for any perfumes but these are both perfect for a regular summer. And a Shalimar impersonator, how interesting!

Happy Friday Eve! Wearing Rose D’Amalfi and playing some mental games with a squirrel who is stealing tomatoes off our plant. I am not unlike Bill Murray in Caddyshack .😂

My brother and his partner in SF are getting over Covid. They were both double boosted and did not have too bad symptoms overall and I am grateful for this.

My work mojo is exceedingly low right now. Some of it is continued post-vacation lethargy coupled with the ongoing implosion of the world as we know it which is, in a word, unsettling. Some strange times we have found ourselves in. I am trying to focus on happy, small things like the cherries I am about to consume and not think too far ahead…well as far as my next Fragrancebuy order…but only that far…🍒😌

I had a rueful laugh about your tomato-stealing squirrel. We had one this summer that took every single ripe blackberry off our canes. The only berries we had for human consumption were not ripe enough.

If you come up with a squirrel-proof system, please share. We’ve got one who likes to take a single bite out of each tomato. I assume he is mostly after the tomato juice, but he could at least have some respect and eat the whole thing. 😀

In a wrist to wrist comparison of L’Ombre Dans L’Eau EdP vs EdT. They are too close for me to justify a fb of each. The EdP has lasted twice as long and has an almost-jammy rose thing that I like, but the EdT is so sprightly! Decisions…..

Tea today has been a hodgepodge of different tea bags that I have at the office, the best of which has been Paper & Tea’s Perfect Day apricot and elderflower white tea. Elderflower beverages are the way to my heart.

Van Cleef & Arpels Rose Rouge.

Ha! It is because of Tam Dao that I’m doing the comparison with L’OD. I got the EDP without ever considering the EDT, and then later realized how many ppl prefer the EDT and realized I was too hasty.

Gorgeous tiger pic today Robin! Wow!

Aurora, I did sleep better last night. Turned out I need to turn the ceiling fan up a bit more now that the nights aren’t cooling off much. As long as overnight temps stay in the 70’s and 80’s, I’m going to have a few restless nights even with A/C.

SOTD = doubling down on Wrappings today. I have both the EdP and the lotion on. The cats are not a fan of this one.

It was definitely the lotion they didn’t care for. Neither one of the cats wanted me petting them until it wore off my hands, LOL. I suspect that the EdP is more volatile, so they don’t have an issue with it. The lotion sticks around much longer.

We’re back to stinking hot 🥵 and this one alleviates it somewhat!

I don’t know about you but I usually survey my meetings for the following day (the day before) and mentally get ready for them. 3 meetings got rescheduled to next week and I sprouted 2 new meetings today and 2 more tomorrow; at least they are in the morning. I suppose I shouldn’t complain!

Thinking about tigers this morning made me pause to wonder why Zoologist hasn’t made any perfume to honor the tiger–or any other big cat. Hmmm. I am wearing Memo Marfa today. It wasn’t so much a distinct choice as just a happenstance–I saw it in a little plastic basket in my bathroom and thought, “Why not?”. I’m having a very lazy day here. We have had a big thunderstorm this afternoon. Some drama and some rain, which we need–a good day to stay inside and do not much.

SotD is KM Canyon Dreams. Starts off with a bright orange for tigers (well, technically it’s mandarin,) and slowly segues into a soft, woody, patchouli. It sounds heavy but isn’t, and I really enjoyed wearing it today. Got a compliment on it, too!

I had meant to post much earlier, but I went over to Fragrantica to check out the old Fabergé Tigress, and no one saw me for hours! 😆
