Tuesday scent of the day 7/26

Posted by Robin on 26 July 2022 136 Comments

It's Tuesday. Happy 77th to Helen Mirren; happy 79th to Mick Jagger. What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m repeating myself, in Hermès Un Jardin Sur le Nil body lotion.

Reminder: 7/29 is International Tiger Day...wear whatever you think fits.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image shows the Tiger Tea for One ("From characters of the outback to the deep mysterious jungle, this fine bone china, hand-painted collection has stories to tell those who take the time to discover them!") from the Tall Tales collection at T2, $35.

    Good morning.
    Sotd is Hummingbird.
Still waiting for my local store to stock Cow. I am tempted to blind buy.
Planning to make Basque style burnt cheesecake today. Excited.

I just got a sample of Cow that I tried the other day, and I liked it very much. Of all the Zoologist scents I’ve tried, it’s the only one where I’d consider a bottle. (This is nothing against Zoologist…just that what I’ve tried so far was interesting but not…me.)

You smell wonderful in Hummingbird. Cow is lovely too, a gentle green floral.

Basque cheesecake! My niece married into a Basque family, and my sis tried that cake when she met the family. Her recipe may have let her down – the result was tasty but not photogenic – do report back and share your recipe if you can. Here’s hoping if your local store stocks Cow, you can at least get a test spritz. I find Zoologist overall hard to get to know, but I have a few loves.

I can’t smell Cow which is a shame because I’ve heard so many good things about it! I have a dabber sample but somehow, there’s an initial smell of something (good) and then poof!

Forecast is for mid 90’s here today, but I’m blowing this pop stand and hopping on a ferry to cooler climes! ⛴

I gave Le Lion a second try last night and had a completely different experience, in a good way! When I initially tried it, I didn’t like it all, didn’t get anything warm or Amber-y. Last night, I got all kinds of lovely wafts! Not sure if the heat made it bloom or what, but I plan on reapplying today.

Stay cool folks, it’s miserable out there!

The only thing that helps me combat this week of hot weather is to remind myself it isn’t 116 degrees like last summer during the heat dome event. If I was farther north I would hop on the ferry to Bainbridge at the very least!! Stay cool.

I’m back in Un Jardin de Mediterranee.
It’s another beautiful day. I slept like a rock, and later than I usually do. My parents live-literally- out in the middle of nowhere and it is so quiet and so dark. It makes for the best sleeping.😴

Star gazing in the middle of nowhere is so much fun. I am terrible at recognizing constellations but I have great app for it on my phone. I love when I hit the sweet spot of being far enough out there to see the stars, but close enough to still have wifi or cell service so I can use the app to identify which stars I’m seeing.

Good morning! We have had cooler weather here (80-ish) for a few days, which is lovely.

My wandering pergola finally arrived yesterday. The box is pretty banged up but I certainly wasn’t going to refuse delivery after all that. Hope the contents is ok (can’t bring myself to look just yet).

We finally got the last skylight blind installed (and didn’t get a divorce in the process, though it was touch and go). Nice to have the shade again. Also got a new bookcase from Ikea yesterday, because we don’t have enough ‘some assembly required’ projects in this house, lol. I thought about delaying but this bookcase has been out of stock for most of the year, so… jumped on it while it was there, since who knows how long that will be true.

Time for my morning tea, then off to more combat yardwork. I will need a nap later.

SOTD is Cristalle Eau Verte. I’ve tried to love regular Cristalle but I just don’t. But Eau Verte? Yes yes yes!

I still remember when it was launched — it was perfectly astonishing, unlike anything that had ever been. Peppermint, coffee, patchouli, caramel, sandalwood, jasmine: there’s no way it could work, but it did, brilliantly. I bought a bottle without even thinking about it.

Of course it’s been reformulated, since everything has, and what a shame. But the flankers are genuinely excellent.

Basically twins with Robin today in Un Jardin sur le Nil EdT. Not CP-compliant. I needed something summery to get me through a hot day. We’ll see how long I last in my office, which is south-facing and gets warm in the afternoon. I still haven’t quite convinced myself to buy an air conditioner to handle the 4 or 5 days a year when it gets really hot.

That tea set up top made me think of Christmas!

Drained a sample of Saturday. Such a nice scent, especially for these warmer months. It’s been hot and humid some..just muggy. I saw the Stones last yr just to check them out. Was glad I did. Mick was running about the stage and changing outfits..he wore like six different glittery jackets. The guy has more energy than dude’s half his age. It was unreal. I think Mick also has a 5 yr old? Crazy haha. They are absolutely amazing live and he is probably one of the best showmen.. the whole band was on fire. Ruby Tues was quite lovely to hear live.

Lol they did not allow purses in the building..so several ppl took out their essentials to carry on themselves..ID credit cards etc, then most ppl shoved their purses in a couple bushes..What’s cool..no reports of stolen purses including mine..lol. they would have just gotten a cheap bag with some chapsticks lol. But I do like that cheap bag so I was glad to have it back haha. I think it was 25 -40? or so bucks for bag check in and ppl didn’t wanna pay it. And the line was a mile long for the bag check in but very short lines to get into the building and the show was starting. Some left some brand name purses like Coach and such that I saw ppl get after the show. I think everyone just abided to the honor system. Just ppl coming together to have a good time.

So over this muggy heat..more pink lemonade to the rescue.

Hi All! As I mentioned last week, I am down in North Carolina as we had the military promotion and celebration for my stepson last week. Yesterday, I was able to break away and went to Pinehurst to some of the local boutiques. I bought the most wonderful smelling perfume. It is Vahina by perfumer Sylvaine Delacourte that I guess worked for Guerlain for several years. The woman that assisted me was a good friend of hers so was selling the perfume in the boutique. That woman had worked for years for Chanel so we had a very interesting conversation. Just curious if any of you are familiar with Sylvaine or her scents. Vahina is a floral vanilla with citrus notes as well. The reviews are mixed, but I think it is wonderful! Getting ready to head back to South Dakota today or tomorrow.

Thanks for all the comments. I was not familiar with the scents, but tried the Vahina in the boutique and really liked it. Unfortunately, that is the only one she carries, and she was out of it. Her order is expected this week so I am guessing she will get it delivered to me soon. I have plenty of fragrances, so I hadn’t intended to buy it, but as I was walking around looking at other things, I just kept smelling my wrist. I decided I must have it so there you go!

I chose Le Galion Iris this morning. It’s usually lovely in the heat, but it’s feeling a bit too chilly today — probably because Mr. G has the a/c set on arctic to cool things down inside while it’s still relatively cool outside. I might just go out on the deck to warm up!

I chose Clean Reserve Skin for my hygienist appointment as it is so unobtrusive, but it lasted on my sleeve, just minimal projection. I always enjoy the polishing at the end, I have to brush closer to the gum line I was told.

Tonight I have on vintage Oscar wafting nicely.

    What a cheerful teapot.

I agree with your brother. It’s a game changer for oral hygiene, I bought my first twenty years ago. I replace it regularly as the technologie evolves.

It’s so wet and cold and dark and dreary that I’m beginning to feel sorry for myself and so to take my mind off things I’m thinking about tigers in art ( if you have Dali perfume this is your week ) and literature for the rest of the week. Tipi’s Tiger , an automation made for Tipu Sultan, the ruler of Mysore. Wearing Crabtree and Evelyn Mysore Sandalwood.

Still wet here, but nothing like the amount of rain Kanuka has been experiencing further south, records have been broken in some places for the wettest July.
I’m going to comfort myself on this dreary day with Fille en Aiguilles. I wore it in the weekend and realised that I hadn’t worn it for a long time, so wearing it again to today.

Taking a 2 minute break from organizing perfumes.

Thank you all for the big love you gave me after my loss of my dear pup. It really touched me.

I saw some conversations about selling perfumes. Seeing what I have doing the organizing, I would just like to see the ones that people love and miss. My 👀 are watching.

    Off for more!

Commando still. And I’ve kind of talked myself down from ordering anything new. I’ll wait to decide on Riviera Verbena for awhile.

Beautiful day out but I was preparing bedroom for bed delivery. They came right at the beginning of the two hour window! Woo hoo! Mattress sits higher than I thought it would, so when we get a new bed we will take the depth into account. It’s fine for us, but I think Agnes will struggle. She’ll need some steps or something.

My sister’s mini Havanese has a ramp to get up and down the couch: however, he pretty much gets up on a dead run and down as if he’s pursuing something only he can see.

Mr. Vee found an antique nightstand on craigslist where the bottom drawer isn’t a drawer at all, but a step stool. He *claims* he got it because it was so unique looking, but he definitely 100% got it because our cats were starting to have trouble jumping onto our bed and he wanted to make sure they could still come up and snuggle with him.

Mr. Jalapeno’s step-mom has a set of steps for her elderly dogs to climb up on her bed. I think either she built them, or Mr. Jalapeno’s Dad did.

I’m wearing Ashoka today and going with a roundabout connection to Tigers. Ashoka is by Neela Vermiere Creations. She was born in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) and Ashoka is named after Ashoka the Great, a legendary king of India from the Maurya dynasty. There was a time when tigers roamed Kolkata as they were (sadly) deprived of more and more of their natural habitat.

Wearing a sample of Manos Gerakinis Omen. Not for me. In the opening, it was oscillating back and forth between the apple and aromatic notes, and it made me feel like I was spinning. It settled in the dry down once the apple dissipated, but I’m not loving the aromatics+leather+oud combo on me.

Tea today is F&M Royal tea. It’s good, but I bet it would taste even better out of that fun tiger tea set!

Trying to stay fresh and cool here. It’s hot but at least not humid; kinda like a dry oven! Equivalent to 97 degrees here., and it’s supposed to get hotter each day this week. Wore a few freshies today but they burned off quickly; mostly lime centric.

We don’t have a/c, but I’m thinking seriously about getting it! Hope everyone is staying cool!

Robin, like many others, I love today’s teapot. It just makes me happy!

Today I experimented with another layering combo I read about somewhere on Instagram: Le Lion with Shalimar Souffle Intense. I like it, Le Lion definitely gives the Souffle Intense a little growl and balances out the sweetness.
